"There seems to be a misunderstanding here," she said, trying to sit up.
"You would do well to stay still and get out of my leader's body," he responded.
"I don't think you understand. I don't even know how I got in here, okay? But I'm not a demon, and I don't want to be here either." She responded to him.
Zayne was beginning to lose his patience. She was playing games with him, but he was in no mood to do the same. He had heard tales of how dubious demons in the past would inhabit freshly dead bodies or those in coma, preventing the owner from returning.
Even if Nikamura were dead, he would rather have her body pure and not contaminated.
"You're a lying demon, I see. What fiery pits are you from?" He demanded from her.
"Don't you get it too? I'm no fucking demon!" She yelled at him and instantly regretted that move as a sharp pain swept through her body like a wave. She flinched and saw him take the safety off the gun.
Wait, he really was going to kill her then. She realized that she needed to do something to salvage herself. She had just woken up and needed to figure things out before she got killed again.
"Please, just hear me out," she added.
"Speak, she demon. I'm listening," he said, but the gun did not move from her face.
She glared at it, and he raised his eyebrow like he was demanding to know what she was doing.
"Get the gun off my face. You could shoot me with it!" She yelled at him.
He looked at the gun in his hand.
"Actually, that's the point of the gun, right? To kill," he said to her.
"Technically, if this Nika.. person is still alive and..." she started.
"It's Nikamura," he said to her.
"Whatever, but if Nikamura is alive and you shoot me now, don't you think you'll kill her too?" She asked him.
For a moment, Zayne stared at the gun in his hand and let off a loud sigh. She did have a point after all, and slowly but reluctantly, he put away the gun.
"Good," she was saying when he rushed over to her and punched her arm painfully. "Owwww! What was that for?"
"I might not want Nikamura dead and would not shoot, but just so you know, you're the one feeling pain now. So if you do anything funny, I would be left with no option but to inflict pain. Trust me, my leader would not mind so long as I am doing it to a demon inhabiting her body. Point gotten?" He asked her.
"Totally,"' she said, rubbing the spot where he pinched her.
"Start talking. How did you get into her body?" he demanded angrily.
"I have no idea. One minute, I was dead, and the other, I was sailing through darkness, and boom, I woke up in this body," she said to him.
"Wait, did you say you died or something?" He asked her.
"I did, or at least I think I did," she responded.
"You have to be clearer," he said sternly.
"Someone lured me to my death, and I was struggling to breathe. It was supposed to be my engagement night, but someone wanted me dead, and now I have no idea whom." She responded.
"You sound so sincere," he noted.
She frowned. Was he kidding her right now?
"Of course I'm telling the truth. What were you expecting? Now, you see, I don't know what happened to me either. Or how I ended up in this body," she said to him.
Zayne breathed heavily as he gave this a long thought.
"At what time did you die?" He asked her.
"Tonight? It was at least the night when I died," she said, looking lost in thought.
"It might be night, but do you have any ideas on what date it was?" He asked her.
"I wouldn't forget. It was November 25th. My engagement night," she said to him.
"That's tonight," Zayne whispered. "Strange."
"See?" She said to him, and she tried to rise again, but the pain in her abdomen seemed to be more suppressing than she expected.
Zayne was thinking really hard right now. Clearly, this was not far off the time when Nikamura died, and he was beginning to experience a twist. If this lady were here and alive, it could only mean one thing.
"I'll need to know everything about you—where you come from and your family," he said to her.
She squinted her eyes. First, this man was really dangerous, and she could tell by merely looking at him. Giving him her family details would be more or less endangering to them.
"No," she responded.
"What?" he demanded.
"I'm not giving you my family details just so you kill them too. For all I know, you could have been the one that had this lady killed, and I'm trapped here now," she said with a frown on her face.
"What blasphemous words you speak. Nikamura is my leader, and I have known her since she was a child. My loyalty lies with her family," he said to her.
"A villain would do anything to wriggle out of trial. You can't fool me," she said to him.
"Wow, you really are something, aren't you? That's why I hate you Americans. You're so full of yourselves and feel you have it all figured out," he said to her.
"Not that I can say much for you either. A woman doesn't play with weapons, and you're the one with a gun between us two," she said to him.
He stared at the pistol in his hand and then sighed.
"You know nothing about me, American. I'll show you what loyalty looks like," he said and started turning away.
"Wait, where are you going?" she demanded.
He did not spare her a moment to answer.
"You're not just going to leave me here. You have to figure out what happened to me!" She yelled at him.
He stopped now and looked at her.
"We cannot figure it out without knowing about everything that might have happened. You would not tell me what I need to know because you think that I am a killer and would harm your family. So, I go to bring you proof of who I am to Nikamura. For your own good, stay calm so you don't upset the stitches," he said to her, and with that, he turned away and left through the door.
Aurelia was left alone now to brood, as she could not help but wonder what was actually happening to her at the moment. Where was she? Had her family found her body? How on earth would she get out of this body?
There she lay on the bed, like all hopes had been lost, as she awaited his return. A couple of moments later, the door opened, and he came back carrying what seemed to be a big book.
Now he set it aside as he came to set her in an upright position, using a pillow to support her back. He then went to grab the big book he had come in with and dropped it off on her lap.
She looked confused.
"What is this?" she demanded.
"Proof of my loyalty," he said to her, and then she turned to look at the book.
It was a photo album, and it seemed like it was really old. Aurelia knew she should not be snooping around, but she needed to know what it was encompassing. She turned the book open and then was greeted with a number of strange faces from the old Japan. She seemed confused as she looked at him now."I don't know these people. Do you expect that I would know them because I'm in her body? This proves nothing!" She said, closing the album."No, American. Keep going. You'll see," he said to her, urging her with his hand. She let off a loud sigh and then opened it again. She opened briskly until she happened upon the picture of a baby. She very well could have gone past it but then the eyes of the baby caught her spellbound. There was something about this baby and she recalled the brown eyes. It was the same as the one she had started in the mirror along with the birthmark beside the right eye.She touched the picture with her hand. The baby was remarkably cute, just like the lady."She's
Today would mark the resolution of her engagement, and Aurelia's only wish was for the smoothest possible entry into married happiness.Ever since her mother passed away years ago, she has not felt truly cared for by anyone."You should stop worrying, Miss. I'm certain that he would like you," her maid Nella said."It's not just about worrying. I mean, I sure have been looking forward to this, but I cannot help but wonder, What is he like? Apart from what we saw at the family dinner, would he be really cool? I mean, you saw him that day, didn't you? He was rather stiff," Aurelia said, and the two of them began to giggle."Ahem." Nella croaked what seemed to be a warning sign, and Aurelia straightened up as she turned to stare at her father's wife. She was not her stepmother, as far as she was concerned. Her father might be married to the distasteful Lady Florence, but she would never come to accept her."You're not ready?" the woman demanded sternly."Like you care?" Aurelia demanded.
Nikamura fixed her gloves one last time as she checked to see if her gear was set for the night. For too long, she had awaited this moment where she would get the kingpins of the underworld together and eliminate them all at once. She was the current most dreadful female in the entire underworld of Japan, and everyone believed she had control over the deadliest assassins. Well, Nikamura was her very own assassin. There was only one person who knew about her and the assassin being one, and that was an old man, Zayne.Zayne had been working for her late father before he extended his services to the daughter of the man, who had been nothing short of nice to him. She tried opening her eyes the first time, but everything seemed a lot blurry, but she could not help but struggle. The scent of blood was all over the place, as strong and arid as it seemed. She could hear someone sobbing beside her, and from the tone, it was a male. Perhaps her father. At least someone had found her. Momentarily, she closed her eyes as she braced herself to try again. This time, it took a moment, but she finally adjusted to the light in the room. Everything seemed strange. She could not recognize this place. Perhaps her father had taken her to a place to cure her. She looked to her side and noticed the person was holding her hand and crying.Wait, that's not her gathering.
