Fern took a deep breath after hanging up the call. She did not understand why she was being so anxious. It was simply a normal phone call.

Did she want to find out about his secret way too badly?

“Mommy, what’s wrong?” Rue saw her mother clutching her phone without saying anything.

Fern returned to her senses and looked at Rue. She then shook her head, saying, “It’s nothing. Did your father tell you how long he’ll be gone for?”

“Oh, he said that he’ll be away for three to four days. Do you not want him to go on the trip because you don’t want him to leave?” Rue asked as she blinked her large, dark eyes while looking at her.

Fern’s gaze faltered, but she could not avoid her gaze. “No, there’s just something that I need to discuss with him.”

“Is that so? I thought that you couldn’t bear to watch him leave. If that were the case, I would call Daddy and ask him to quickly come back.”

“That’s alright. Let him finish his work.”
