43. Missing Again

Dario’s POV

I managed to keep my eyes away from Isla during the whole ride, but my mind kept wandering in her direction. I couldn’t shake the feeling off my chest, but I had no choice. Isla was my goddaughter.

I was meant to protect her and keep her safe. It was best I kept my distance and stopped whatever was brewing between us.

The worst part about everything was despite my trying to keep that distance, I realised it wasn’t going to be easy.

Isla was like a drug, and my soul desperately wanted to feed on her—or Kai, in this case. At the mention of his name, I heard him speak.

“You just had to do it again!” Kai said. I wasn’t surprised by his words. Of course, he would attack me. He was never on my side when it came to Isla.

I didn’t bother replying to his words. I had gotten out of the car, and my mind was focused on checking on Katherine.
