Isla’s POV
I sighed as the last of Papa’s subordinates left the room after a hectic meeting. Usually, he would never let me sit through meetings like this.
But, as his only child, and since I already had my transformation, I was now allowed to decide on meetings.
“Padre, I don’t think we can hold out anymore,” I started, finally voicing out my true thoughts that I had kept during the meeting.
“Mio caro, you must remember that the most important part of a battle is in the heart.”
“I have sent word to the teams in the cities. They can leave the human matters for now and come back to protect our base. But, if I let the ones here believe they can’t handle it, then they would have lost even before the reinforcements come.”
I nodded my head in understanding as his words made sense, but I still couldn’t stop the uneasy feeling in my heart.
In the last two weeks, our defences have been broken through twice, and even though we have caught all the invaders, I couldn’t help but feel like more were coming.
No, I was certain that there were more coming.
The Vicious Canines was a pack of ruthless wolves that would not stop until they were either dead or their enemy was dead.
“Padre, I think that we should ask Dario for help also,” I said, finally saying what I felt was the true solution.
Although he was in a different city, Dario, my father’s best friend and my godfather, was the one person who could stand against the Vicious Canine without suffering any losses.
Papa heaved a deep sigh and leaned back against his seat.
“You don’t trust your Papa anymore?” he asked with a teasing and doting smile on his face.
However, beneath all that, I could see the clear signs of fatigue on my papa’s face.
“I do,” I answered honestly because I knew that my father would put his life on the line for mine.
I was his little princess.
But I didn’t want a world without my Padre in it. He was my only family, and he was all I had left in this world.
“I can’t call Dario,” Father started, and I sat up, my eyes twinkling with interest. A special interest that I for only my godfather.
“Is anything the matter? Did you both fight?” I asked with a slight frown.
I had found it strange that he missed my eighteenth birthday and my first transformation.
After all, he had never missed any important events or celebrations that involved me.
“The last time he was here, he vowed to me that the next time he set foot in my home, he would break our friendship vows; since then, he has been outside the country, and we haven’t had time for a real conversation.”
Papa sighed, the situation clearly having more effect on him. Seeing how he was affected made my heart lurch with guilt. After all, more than anyone, I knew exactly what had happened the last time Dario had been here.
However, I didn’t expect that he would hate me so much that because of that one simple action, he would decide to put the friendship of more than three decades that he had with my Padre aside.
I also felt a little guilty because I was the one who had broken their friendship, yet Papa had no idea.
I made a mental note to send him a message when I had the chance to sneak his number from Papa’s phone.
“Mio Cara, don’t worry that mind too much. From tomorrow, reinforcements will arrive, and all of them will come with more weapons,” Father said, and I nodded.
We stood up at the same time, and Papa pulled me into a warm hug that had most of my worries disappearing.
However, the moment we separated, and I turned to leave, the door to Papa’s study was pushed open with a loud bang.
“Alpha! Things are bad!” the man announced as he fell to his knees and took loud and fast breaths.
“What’s the matter? Speak quickly!” Papa urged, and he grabbed his pistol that was on the table and another one from behind him.
“The Vicious Canine has launched another attack…” before he could finish his words, a loud explosion rang out from outside, and my heart sank.
This was nothing like the two breaks that we have had recently.
Pete, my father’s beta, rushed inside and glanced at the guard, who was still sprawled on the floor.
“Alpha,” he said with a low bow before closing the door.
“How many are they?” Papa asked with another sigh.
“About thirty thousand. They must be here for a total wipeout.”
If I didn’t know Pete before now, I would have suspected that he either had a hand in this or didn’t care about the pack.
But I knew this was how he was, always unfazed and still as water.
“Alfred, the reinforcement cannot arrive in time. They have taken down the entire west side of the pack’s security. Since I came down here, they might have taken the other sides.”
I could see Papa’s face ageing with every report, and my heart ached with fear.
Even though I had known that we didn’t stand a chance, I hadn’t expected that we wouldn’t even have the chance to get any form of reinforcements at all.
That they would come this quickly.
“I would call my personal army…” Papa started and then glanced at me.
“Take Isla and leave this place, Pete.”
“What are you saying, Papa?” I interrupted before Pete could reply.
There’s no possible way that I would run when the pack was in danger.
“I can’t fight with you around me, Isla.”
I didn’t want to run away to safety when all of them were putting their lives on the line.
“Papa, is there no way we can negotiate? Perhaps ask them what they want?”
“Mio Cara,” Papa calls out in a low and warning tone that had me keeping quiet.
“Pete, keep my Princess safe,” Papa said, stood up and left the study.
Every step we take out of the study has my heart breaking, and in a split second, I yanked my hands from Pete’s hands and rushed after my papa.
“Papa, let’s call on Dario. I’m sure he has the resources to get here in time!” I shouted as I ran after my papa’s figure.
On hearing my voice, Papa stopped and then turned back. From where I am, I can’t see his expression clearly.
“Isla…” I didn’t hear what he said as another loud explosion shook the walls and filled the air.
“If you can’t call him in such a desperate time, then he doesn’t deserve to be called your friend.”
I hated that I was the one who caused their rift, and I also hated that Papa didn’t want to call him.
He was the Lycan King, for fucks sake!
How could he not call him at such a time?
“This life that I have was given to me by him. There’s no reason to blame a person for the things that fate has arranged.”
“La mia principessa, be good, okay?”
Tears rolled down my eyes, and I nodded my head repeatedly.
Papa pulled away from me and cocked the two guns that were in his arms.
“Let’s go, Isla,” Pete said, grabbing my hands to go in the other direction.
Without saying anything, Pete grabbed me, carrying me princess-style, and then made a high jump into the building.
Pete’s speed was impressive, and soon, we were climbing into the underground cellar underneath my room.
“There’s only two ways to open the safe in this cellar. You either open it from inside, or someone with the key opens it from outside. Other than that, it is completely indestructible.”
“Isla, regardless of what happens, you are not allowed to leave here.”
“Even after all of these settles?”
“There’s more than enough for you to eat and drink, and the underground pipes would make sure that you have more than enough oxygen…”
“You have no reason to come out,” Pete added, and I nodded, eager to have him go so that I could decide the best way to help my pack get through this.
“As for the key, only one person has it, so you don’t have to be scared.”
“Who?” I asked curiously, and Pete shot me an accusing glare.
“You would know when it’s time.”
He stood up, his height too small for the space of the cellar, so he had to bend his head.
“One last thing before I go,” Pete said, pulling out a small box from his pocket.
“I know you would be mad at me for a month when we see again, but this is the only way to ensure you don’t run off from here, Isla.”
My heart raced as I tried to make sense of his words.
However, Pete was faster than me as he pulled out a small piece of clothing from the box and then placed them over my nostrils.
My arms flail beside me as I struggle with the overwhelming pull and darkness that was trying to wrap over me.
Unfortunately, it was a losing battle.
Isla’s POVWhen I wake up, I first notice how silent it is everywhere.I have no idea about how much time has passed or what has happened. As though it was timed, the cellar door was pushed open, and I squinted my eyes, adjusting to the light slowly.I sat up the moment I saw him.He is here.He came!“Dario!” I called out, lunging at my godfather's broad and familiar figure.“Tesoro,” Dario groaned as he lifted me up and cradled my body against his. Aside from the relief, I couldn’t help the electricity that I felt from being this close to him.“Are you okay?” he finally asked after a minute.“Hmm, Pete locked me here and told me only one person had the key.”Dario said nothing and silently brought me out of the cellar and into my room.Even though the curtains weren’t drawn, there was still more than enough light, and I smiled as I stared at Dario’s perfect features. While he was my godfather, I could not deny how drawn I had always been to him. Even worse was when my wolf had picke
Dario’s POVThis was it.The worst fuvking mistake of my life.Nothing could have prepared me for this; now that it already happened, it was done.Alfred was gone.“Take me to him,” I ordered as I stormed to where some of my men were, moving things around.“Your Majesty,” they made their customary bow before leading the way inside one of the few buildings that was still standing.I could tell that the battle here had been hard. It was hard enough that Alfred knew he wasn’t going to make it.And he had used the last method of survival that could have housed about ten of them till I got here for his only daughter. His princess. She was one hell of a mouthy princess and definitely the bane of my existence.I had gone from buying her toys to buying her dresses. But, from the day she turned sixteen, I had noticed the difference that my Principessa was growing into one of the most beautiful and alluring females ever. Two months before her 18th birthday, she decided to let me know she wasn’t
Isla’s POVMy body swayed before falling to the ground beside my Papa.My entire world. They had taken my world from me.For a brief moment, I looked around, searching for a sharp object that could send me on my way to join Papa in the fastest time. But I knew it would kill him even more to see me there than if I stayed here.Maybe I could find those bastards. Find every single soul that has done this to my Papa. His entire body was covered in dried blood and cuts from fighting so hard for this pack.He had died fighting.Eventually, I lay there beside him, crying my eyes out.I don’t know how I slept off, but I woke up in Dario’s familiar embrace.I’m no longer in the room where Papa was but now outside our pack. As I looked around, I saw the chopper that Dario must have brought here and a fleet of cars.“Where’s Papa?” I asked, wiggling and kicking at his chest so that he could get that I didn’t want to be with him.“He’s in one of those cars. We have to leave now.”“Put me down.”H
Isla’s POVHe ignored me.The car ride was completely silent, and I peered at the scenery outside.Papa promised to take me to visit the whole world after I was 18, and our first destination was supposed to be Dario’s home. Now I am really on the way there, only my father wouldn’t be with me anymore. As we walked to the entourage of parked cars waiting for us, I couldn’t help but let my mind wander.Dario had refused to answer my question. Even after six months, nothing had changed. After nursing a crush on him for the last five years, I had spent every birthday and full moon asking the moon goddess for one thing— a mate bond with Dario.Reality had given me a slap in the face. A slap that cost me the most important person to me. Another wave of pain slammed through my mind, and I bit my lips to stop myself from crying out. I know that Papa wouldn’t want to see me crying. The car rolled to a stop, and I peered through the tinted windows at the huge mansion before me.Dario was at my s
Dario’s POV I could feel the tension rising as my gaze moved from Isla to Brenda. Then I heard Isla speak up. “Can I know where I’ll be staying?” She looked annoyed like she couldn’t wait to leave. Probably, she was weary from the car ride, I guessed.“Rio! Take her to the room upstairs.” I instructed one of my guards. He nodded his head and then led Isla upstairs. I watched as she walked behind him. The tension which was slowly building up amongst us had simmered.“Dario,” Brenda called softly, reminding me she was still here.I turned towards her immediately, pulling my hands away. My expression was stern as I looked her in the eye. “Why didn’t you inform me of your visit?” I asked. “Can’t I pop in to check up on you?” Brenda questioned, shooting flirtatious looks. “Brenda, answer my question ?” I growled. I was growing impatient and didn’t have time for this little game Brenda was playing. I guessed she must have sensed it because she stopped batting her eyelashes and looked
DarioMy eyes were still fixed on the picture when I heard a knock. I hoped it wasn’t Brenda! I couldn’t deal with her right now. I wasn’t even in the mood to answer, so I ignored the knock.“Who is there?” I questioned after hearing the second knock.“Your majesty, there’s an issue!” The voice of one of the housekeepers caught my ear.“Issue?”“It’s about the young girl, your majesty.”I groaned, ordering her to step in afterwards. “What happened?” I asked the minute she entered.“She wouldn’t have her dinner!” “Reasons so?”“She didn’t say. She just sent us away.” I sighed. I could only imagine the pain my little princess was going through. Her father was a huge part of her life, and losing him must have hurt her greatly. “I will handle it. Just bring her meal to me.” The housekeeper nodded, obeying my instructions. Immediately after she left, I walked out of the study. It was my duty to take care of the princess. It was my duty to Alfred, and he wouldn’t forgive me if anything
Isla’s pov I woke up feeling slightly better. Maybe it was because of Dario and me having a conversation yesterday. After a quick stretch, I pulled off the duvet and headed to where I had stuffed my notepad in my bag.I wrote down everything I remembered from the attack. I guessed it would be useful to Dario. Besides, I didn’t want to forget.I was still writing when I heard a knock on my door.“Who’s there?” I asked.“Isla, breakfast is ready!” It was Dario. His voice was like music to my ears.“I’m coming!” I responded, scribbling down some more words. Once I was done, I went to the bathroom. I didn’t waste time pampering myself in the bathroom. However, the thought of soaking myself in the bathroom using one of the lavender wash I had seen on the bathroom shelf crossed my mind.I made a mental note to do that later, probably in the evening. Immediately, I was done bathing. I dressed up quickly.I wore a simple dress and tied my hair in a messy ponytail. My mind drifted off as I
Isla’s POV My eyes landed on Dario. His brows were furrowed, and his eyes were a bit red with rage. He looked angry, very angry. But the more I stared, the more I noticed his expression change drastically. He had a stern look playing across his face now. “Brenda!” He called, turning to face her. “Please excuse us!” Brenda glared at me. She picked up her clothes from the floor, throwing them over her body before she left. She shot me another glare, then walked out of the room, and I was glad that my aim was achieved. I was able to ruin their fun. I tried my best to hide my happy feelings. The second Brenda had left, Dario’s eyes were on me, and I didn’t hesitate to step forward, wearing the same stern expression he had on. “How dare you do this, Dario?” I began. “You’re betraying our mate bond!” “Isla-“ he said, but I didn’t allow him to continue. I kept on speaking. “You know this is all so wrong, Dario. You are not meant to be with her! She isn’t your mate.” “I can decide o
Five years later. I woke up to the sound of my children's excited voices, their laughter cascading through the air like a warm, familiar embrace. Pulling my eyes open, I gradually focused on my daughter. She was standing really close to me, with her hands crossed behind her back "Mommy, come downstairs! Quick!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Her hands, which were crossed behind her back, moved forward to touch mine. "Mommy, come on! Quick!" she exclaimed, with a higher pitched tone. I tried to understand my daughter’s sudden need for me to go downstairs. I glanced at the clock on my bedside, and I realized it was just eight in the morning. It was quite early. Very early. I sighed, turning to look at Selene who seemed to have given up. When she saw I wasn’t budging she let go of my hands and headed out of the room. Then she returned few seconds later, with a pretty determined face. “Mom, this is really important.” Not long after she said those words ,
Isla’s POVThe night was quiet. The only sound breaking the stillness of the air was the soft rustle of leaves outside our window. I lay in bed after I had managed to put my daughter to bed, dozing off. Suddenly, a cry pierced the silence, a sound that jolted me awake. My eyes flew open, my heart pounding, and without hesitation, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my bare feet meeting the cool wooden floor as I rushed towards the nursery. Dario, who had heard the sound of our daughter’s cry, rolled out of bed. He walked behind me, his steps slower than mine.I pushed open the nursery door when I got there. Dario and I had put the nursery in order some days ago. Actually, Dario had done all the work; I just stood there watching him since he wouldn’t let me help.Gliding past the entrance, I felt a surge of warmth fills me at each step. I moved to the crib, which was adorned with soft blankets and stuffed animals. Then I reached for my baby, cradling her gently in my arms."Hush
Isla’s POVI stood wrapped in Dario’s arms, with my heart racing with excitement.. Dario, had just proposed to me.It all felt surreal like none of it was true and I was leaving in the walls of my imagination, but as I glanced at the sparking gem in my hands. I knew that, this was far from being surreal. It was real and I was going to get married to the man of my dreams. If someone had told me some months back that I would end up with Dario. I would never have believed that person, but here I was today, leaving my dreams.Dario pulled his hands away from me, he placed a soft kiss on my ringed finger, then he moved his hands to my face.“My Luna!” He said softly. I blushed not hiding the fact that I was filled with joy. During that moment, the thought of spilling everything that happened to my parents crossed my mind. I wanted my padre to know that everything turned out fine."Dario,” I called out to him. “I want to tell my parents about us," I said.Dario smiled warmly, his eye
Dario’s POVI walked into the mansion with Isla by my side. Finally, the battle was over.I stared at her as those thoughts settled in my mind. The victorious look in her eyes was not so different from mine. She must have noticed that I was staring at her because she looked my way, and I noticed as tears began to full from her eyes.“We did it!” She said with her lips curved up. “We finally did it!”“You did it!” I said moving close to her. I wrapped my hands around her body, planting a kiss on her forehead. The joy in my heart couldn’t be contained, and right now the only thought on my mind was finally seeing my child—my daughter. My hands which were on Isla uncurled and my eyes swerved in the opposite direction staring at Jonas.“Inform the men to take care of the bodies and clean everywhere up.” Jonas nodded at my reply, after that was said I turned to look at Isla.“Let’s go see our child.” Together, we made our way up the stairs, crossing the bodies that were at the staircase.
Isla’s POV The battle unfolded before my eyes, as I ran upstairs. I watched as more of the attackers stepped into the mansion walls with their weapons in their hands. It seemed that Dario had called upon on his men from the human base because I noticed that among those attackers were men far more armed and ready to take down whoever dared to stand in their way.As I ascended up the stairs the sounds of body dropping to the ground filled my ears. A sign the men were already taking action.“Do you think it’s going to work?” Nima’s voice spilled into my mind as I continued to walk.“What is?” I questioned, trying to grasp what she was trying to say.“The plan you have to weaken the cursed blood.”“I know it will. The fact that this idea crawled into my mind means it will work and if it doesn’t we would find another way.”Nima didn’t say any words after and I focused on the hallway ahead of me. I arrived in front of the room where my grandmother was staying with Diane and my baby. I tr
Isla’s POV “I think I need to have my rest now.” I said standing on my feet.” Diane rushed on her feet, she headed in my direction but a loud sound which filled the atmosphere had stopped her midway.“What’s that?” She asked, moving her eyes from me to our grandmother.“Maybe something fell.” Our Grandmother said. “Those guards can be quite clumsy one almost—“The sound repeated itself this time louder than before. “I don’t think that’s a mistake.” I said with my eyes landing on Diane. During that moment I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. The feeling was so strong and I knew what it meant.“I think the baby is coming.” I said.“Isla, are you sure?” Diane asked.“Yes.” I screamed. “It is time.”My eyes which was once on Diane landed on my grandma who looked shocked. With a raised tone she spoke up, running towards the hallway to get a hold of the guards.“We need to get to the hospital now!” I could hear my grandmother say. “We can’t waste anytime.”Diane moved close to me she help
Dario’s POV (2 months later)Time flew by very quickly, and the arrival of my daughter was closer than I expected it to be. The joy of becoming fatherhood filled my heart , but underneath that joy was fear. I couldn’t shake off the thoughts that I might mess things up or something would go wrong somewhere. No matter how many times I tried to convince myself internally that handling things after the child was born would be an easy task those treacherous thoughts would return.Kai on the other hand felt otherwise and I wasn’t surprised. The joy in his heart was one he wasted no time to spread for instance this morning.I had gotten up much earlier than usual. The sky was still dark, and from the looks of it. It would take a while before the sun would arrive.I made up my mind to jog, well that wasn’t my first choice. After, I couldn’t fall asleep and the fear about being a terrible father had taken over my mind. Kai ever so considerate had suggested that I head out for a run.“Running
Silvan’s POV Months had passed since I had set my eyes on Isla. My mind wasn’t at rest. I wanted to see how things were going with her and how she was doing even if it was just getting a glimpse of her.I made up my mind the following week to do so. With my men going to the pack for an attack, Dario would be out of the house making things so much easier. At the arrival of the following week, I set out to the pack . I had taken a narrow route, instead of the main path so I wouldn’t be seen. I bursted out at a trail which stretched out into the forest that was pretty close to Dario’s mansion.I parked my car there, and continued on foot. It was pretty difficult navigating through the path on foot but I managed to find my way. The top of the mansion looked at me as I reached the end of the forest. I inched closer until I arrived at the main road. I made my way down the road that pointed to the mansion entrance and when I got there, I realised only two guards were stationed outside.A
Isla’s POVI watched as Dario got into the car. My mind was a bit unstable but I didn’t dwell on it. If Dario could handle the first attack then I was sure he could handle whatever was thrown his way this time.I walked into the house, Grandma was waiting in the sitting room with Diane. The minute I stepped into the sitting room they turned my way.“Are you fine Isla?” Diane was the first to speak up and I smiled her way. “I’m okay, a bit scared but fine.” I took my seat close to her and she shot me a calm look. “I know he’ll be able to handle whatever comes his way.” I added.“Of course.” My grandmother joined in the conversation. “The only thing I’m concerned about is why this people keep coming back.”“I wonder the same thing too.” Diane said. “It’s strange.”“I feel like they’re here for something and they are yet to get it.” I said casually. Diane and my grandmother agreed to my words, they also had a feeling that the attackers were here for something. We spent the rest of th
