Two years earlier...
The first year of college was under her belt and she had successfully navigated her way through the freshman year at Hudson University. Finals were over, grades were out and she had made it, she was officially on her way to her sophormore year of her English lit major. It wasn't a subject she was unhumorously serious about, in all reality when the time came for her to go to college she discovered she couldn't commit to any one subject for the rest of her life and be bound by a last minute descision. She simply went with something she knew, she knew she loved books, loved to read, she was sure she would figure the rest out along the way. The important thing was to get going, and that's what she did.
It was Friday and school was out, she was normally not a regular on the party scene, but this was a celebration that called for a huge blowout. There was quite a few parties already planned out that night, and tonight she was hitting up at least half of the main ones. Summer was on the horizon and that meant she could finally act her age, or at least the age everyone around her acted.
"Whoa!! Summer baby!" She slammed her locker shut making her way energetically towards Violet, Suzie was the party animal of their small group of friends. She was loud and could be a bit obnoxious if you didn't know her, her ostentatious ways had never much bothered Violet though, in fact, they're personalities complemented each other well. If she'd ever had a sister, she was sure she'd want her to be just like Suzie. She threw her arm around Violet, her energy could no doubt be felt a mile away. She enjoyed partying but the fact Suzie was a law major and she did work hard while school was in session, out of session was another story.
"Ok so we have a busy night planned! We're starting with the Delta Pi party, word is they've got an actual band playing and oodles of liqour! Plus so far everyone I've talked to has already committed to being there tonight, so we start there and we'll see where the night takes us!"
"I'm ready tonight Suze, Violet the party pooper is out for the summer, Vi is officially in the house!" The girls giggled all the way to the shared dorm that brought them together in the first place.
They made their way across the courtyard to the eastside of the campus to the E dorms, the place both girls would be calling home for the forseeable future. It was a beautiful summer day, the sun slowly making its descent behind the green mountains that changed their color with every season. Faris was a quaint town nestled in the green moutains of Vermont, the natural beauty of the town was what drew Violet to the college. Of course, the university itself had a reputation for being one of the top schools in this part of the country, but there was something about the adorable little town that just made her want to call it home for a while.
There was only a few things to do before a big night out like tonight, pick out outfits, quick nap if possible, eat, only an idiot would plan a big night out of partying and not eat anything, big mistake. And, lastly get ready for the night once all the other things had been done, and obviously, hydrate through it all, most smart people knew that water was essential if you planned on functioning at all the next day. Violet's first course of action was scarfing down a cheese sandwich from the cafeteria she'd picked up along the way to the dorms. Food and then sleep until tonight.
The party definitely lived up to the hype they'd heard all day, Delta Pi never needed a reason to throw a party, so when they actually had a reason, it was going to be the party to be at. It was your typical frat house, two stroy, at least three thousand square feet of space, though the exact measurement was unkown to everyone because who cared about square footage! Most of the frat houses were on the same stretch of road only a few blocks from the dorms, walking distance was always a plus, the last thing a bunch of college students needed were duis or worse.
Violet had gone with fitted, flare jeans, a black crop top, she was a firm believer in showing off if you had it because one day you would no longer, and paired it with a new pair of black wedge heels she'd been waiting to take out for a night on the town. Normally she would have just paired the ensemble with her favorite pair of converse but tonight was a special occasion after all, it called for her special date shoes that had never seen a date since they walked out of the shoe store almost a year ago.
The music from Pi house was heard two blocks away. Suzie was talking aimlessly about a really trivial event that somehow had upgraded to a class A event in her book, some girl giving her 'attitude' in first period. The sidewalk was lined nearly three blocks down with people. The was a certain feel to the air, like electricity igniting the air after lightening struck. Tonight was gonna be a good a night.
As the girls inched closer to the house, Violet found herself preoccupied with the possibility of Brandon being there. Brandon was in her last class of the day and had been all year and she was certain he had no idea of her existence. He was cute, like really cute, and she had never really found the courage to approach him and even is she had he was always between girlfriends, he seemed to date like he changed underwear. She was absolutely ashamed of the fact that she'd let this crush go so long without saying a word to him about it, she was an adult after all, well she was ninteen which was basically the same thing. She'd spent the two semesters gazing at his platinum blonde locks that were alway gelled back in a very millennial way, a look she'd never really been fond of, but he pulled it off fantastically. He was a little more muscled than she usually found attractive but once again it was a good look for him, he was a football star after all, a fact she nearly barfed at when she realized she was attracted to him, he needed a bit of muscle to massacre on the field the way he did.
The party was in full swing when they arrived, sounded like they had gotten a DJ in lou of a band, the scratch of records could be heard along with the voices of many people all meshed into one, it sounded like a party. The porch that extended the length of the house was crowded with people, vibrant and dull at the same time in they way that only alcohol could make a person, bring them all together and it was quite a scene. The heavy smell of cigarette smoke permeated all the way up to the street. The girlish giggles and loud whoops of laughter ascended into the air around them. This was the type of environment that could feed those that were looking to be fed.
It didn't take long for Violet to feel that lightness, the carelessness that was brought on by alcohol, the warm feeling that started in the pit of your stomach and radiated throughout your body when the liquor hit your core. After all a weight had just been lifted off her shoulders for the next couple of months and was guaranteed to return later in the year so why not let loose while she could. To say that school was stressful may have been an exaggerated understatement. She supposed it was because she knew these next couple of years were the years that would decide the rest of her life and any descisions made at this time were basically life descisions. Maybe it was the weight of the rest of her life that seemed to drop on her shoulders the day she started college. She decided to quickly down two drinks, a little liquid courage was exactly what she needed, tonight she would tell Brandon that she
"It's Violet right?" He's close to her as he speaks, his hand on her all the while as though they were old friends. Ezra watches from afar, the energy in the room suddenly having shifted as he touches her. He felt his jaw tighten for reasons that evaded him as he watches the new man's hand planted firmly on her with no intention of moving. "Umm yea, Brandon." "Be my pong partner? We got next game." "Sure, Suze?" Suzie's eyes were occupied, Darren finally made an appearance. His auburn locks were hard to miss, he was tan with dark, fiery hair and bright blue eyes. He was quite attractive, Violet might have taken an interest in him if Suzie hadn't seen him first. Then again, they were perfect for each other so maybe not, they were both loud and friendly and at times obnoxious. No two people were more
Ezra stood beside her, his face still cocked in a half smile that sent butterflies soaring through her stomach, hitting her like a punch to the gut. Her smile met his stepping away from Brandon who was way too close to begin with, and moving closer to the stranger. Brandon merely stared at the guy who suddenly pulled his conquest, literally from his grasp, without saying a word. "Can I help you?" Brandon made his presence known stepping between the two who seemed to have fallen into a trance with one another. They're glances stuck on each other, unwavering. "Want to step outside for some fresh air?" The stranger spoke to her and her heart leapt at his voice. "Yea, sure." She moved to stand beside him, Brandon being a thing of the past until he spoke again, reminding her of his forgotten existence.
Ezra was the one to break the kiss. All the passion in the world couldn't distract him from the fury of Castor he felt radiating off of him on the other side of the wall behind them. Castor was shouting at him in his head. He knew this was no the way of things and Castor would make usre he didn't forget himself. They were well fed for the night, they had sucked years off of many humans lives tonight before Violet had even made an appearance. There was no reason to stay, except the human in his arms. The human in his arms. The significance of that thought and his actions hit him fully now. To dabble with a human for any other reason than to feed was dangerous. He knew it was dangerous, but yet she felt so right in his arms. She felt right in a way that Driselda never could or did. Driselda was cold and hard in his arms, where as this human he'd only just met was
