WILL YOU BE MY FAKE FIANCÉE

Back at Frost's house, Vinca was pacing up and down in the living room, fuming with anger, while Leo looked at her anxiously.

"Please sit down, and I will explain everything", Frost tried coaxing her. He then called out to Maria to bring them some refreshments.

"I want you to be my fake fiancée," he said like it was the most natural statement to come out of his mouth.

Vinca and Leo looked at Frost, not believing the words coming out of his mouth. Vinca, who was already mad at him, felt her blood boiling.

"You want me to what?" she shouted.

Frost, not noticing the anger in her eyes repeated himself. "Be my fake fiancée until Bernice stops bothering me"

WHOOSH!!

A cup missed his face by an inch and his shirt got drenched with tea. Leo held Vinca's hand before she could throw another missile.

"Just because you are my benefactor doesn't mean you can treat me like a slave. How dare you ask that of me?" she was fuming.

Holding up his hands as a sign of surrender, he said " Please, just hear me out"

"Bernice and I used to be childhood sweethearts. Then, I was in a very vulnerable stage so her affection meant the world to me. I was committed and dedicated to her and even purposed to spend the rest of my life with her"

"The day I asked her to marry me was the happiest day of my life or so I thought. Even though she kept cheating on me, I honestly thought she wanted the same thing and that she would eventually change her ways"

"One day out of the blues, she called me to break up with me. She said that she had met the love of her life and was getting married to him. I never heard from her again until today".

As he said this, he was neither bitter nor sad. He wasn't even angry anymore. Time and work had erased all the pain he once had.

As Vinca listened to him, she felt her heart ache for him. Just like her, he had once loved and been betrayed. Getting your heart trampled on by the one you love is a feeling she understood very well.

"I am only going to help you because I owe you my life," she said as she sat down and held her face with her palms. "So how do we go about this fake fiancée thing?"

"Just pretend to be my fiancée for as long as Bernice is in the country. Knowing her nature, she will soon get bored and travel to who knows where. But there are conditions that you have to agree to during this period"

She crossed her legs and waited for what seemed to be a lecture coming her way.

"During this time, you are not allowed to hook up with any man. At no given time can you go for dates except if it is with me."

"You will accompany me to any social functions that I will attend. Bernice will probably use such functions to get close to me".

Tomorrow, I will introduce you as my fiancée at the company. Knowing Bernice she already has somebody spying on me to report back to her."

"As long as we still have this agreement, I will not be involved with any woman. We both need to act and look at the part.

"Also, apart from the salary from the company. I will also give you an allowance for your upkeep." Seeing her raise her eyes, "It's not that am paying you to do this. I just want you to have an allowance"' he said, shaking his head

Leo got up from his seat. " You two lunatics can continue with your crazy discussion, I am going to take a shower," he said, headed for his quarters.

Since she had gotten herself into this, there was no turning back, she sighed and leaned further into the couch.

Bernice was locked up in her room. She was spent crying and had broken every breakable thing that was in the bedroom. All her clothes were thrown down from the closet, her shoes strewn all over and her dressing mirror broken into pieces.

She was curled up in the corner, cursing Frost. She swore she was going to get him back even if it meant killing that stupid woman who came between them.

She was already divorced so there was no way she was going to let Frost go. How was she supposed to remain single when all her friends and foes were married? She refused to be the laughingstock of the town.

The maid knocked on her door. "Miss, it's time for dinner; your parents are expecting you downstairs."

She got up from the floor and went to take a shower. Her father was always strict about the family having dinner together and not even her tantrums would get her out of it.

Frost took hold of her hand as soon as they alighted from the car. Vinca was nervous and walked in short steps trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible.

As soon as they stepped into the conference room, everyone stood up. Leo had already given them a heads-up on the meeting's agenda so they were eager to see who the lucky lady was.

At this moment, Shanice was the most jealous in the conference room. On account that she was always the one who was asked to accompany the boss during social functions, she had gotten it into her head that she would naturally be the best candidate for the Mrs. position.

Frost entered the conference room, dragging Vinca with him. She was reluctant about this meeting.

"I want to officially introduce my fiancée. I hope that you all accord her the same

l respect what you do to me." he said pushing Vinca forward and holding her by the waist.

To say everyone in the conference room was shocked is an understatement.

"Wasn't she introduced as the secretary, when did she become the fiancee?"

"She must have climbed the boss's bed, mmhh, what a social climber"

"But she looks so ordinary"

"What did the boss see in her?

"I knew something was fishy about her"

Most of the murmurs came from female employees. Shanice was green with envy.

Having finished his announcement, he left with Vinca and Leo in tow. She breathed a sigh of relief when they were finally in Frost's office.

"Boss, news of this will go public. How do you plan to deal with this? After all, you are termed the most eligible bachelor and many women have been waiting to be by your side."

"Also people believe that you are a cold, unemotional man who has no feelings and only thinks about work." Leo was busy rambling not noticing the look his boss was giving him.

The room temperature suddenly dropped drastically. Leo sensed something was amiss and shut his mouth, turning to look at Frost.

"Hold a press conference for this evening and invite all major news channels. Also, because of your foolish words, I am deducting your bonus for this month" Having said that, he waved him away, and Vinca took the opportunity to slide out unnoticed, only for her to be called back.

Bernice smashed her phone on the floor breaking it. She was on the verge of losing it. The person she had paid to spy for her just called to inform her that the boss was having a press conference that evening to officially announce his engagement with Vinca.

"How dare he throw this to my face? I will never allow her to take what belongs to me, NEVER" she shouted at the walls.

She went out to look for her bodyguard. One way or the other, she had to attend that press conference.
