CHAPTER 3
I was dead silent as the woman helped me to wear this dress.
I can’t believe I’m wearing this.
I’m currently wearing a long-sleeve lace dress with pearl accents. I traced the intricate design of the gown with my fingers, and I could tell this must have cost much.
“It looks so good on you! You’ll have my best wishes to your wedding, Madame.” The woman said cheerfully to me.
“Thank you.” Mahinang sagot ko sa kanya. Only if this woman knew, I’m marrying a jerk. But I can’t. I can’t tell everybody that this was just an arranged marriage for convenience. It would cause another scandal if the mass would know that we’re marrying for the sake of our company.
They were so shocked too. The two even suggested that I should run away but I turned it down.
I couldn’t just turn my back from my parents with that fiasco going on. I’ve made up my mind. I am willing to do anything that they would ask me, even though it’s against my will. And if that would be marrying Mikael, I’ll do it.
Mom explained it to me.
Mom preferred for us to have a traditional wedding so, here we are.
They even bothered to have the blessings and the presence of the Lord when all of this is just fake. That made me want to cuss.
“Mauveine. Are you sure about this?” tanong ng kaibigan mong si Shaia.
“I could really drive this car, far, far away from here, you know?” si Deanne naman iyon.
Hinampas siya sa braso ni Shaia. And I knew why.
“Then, you’re gonna get us killed first?! You’re a certified bad driver, Deane.” Si Shaia.
“Hindi naman ako ganoon kasamang magmaneho! I’m still learning!”
This is it.
“Mauveine, snap your fingers twice kung gusto mong ipa-run-away scene kita kay Ream.” Suhestyon ni Shaia.
This girl is unbelievable. Dinamay pa talaga niya si Ream. And speaking of Ream, Dad invited him to come at my wedding. And on the top of that, Ream and I are some sort of friends too.
When I finally stepped out form the car. Napakaraming bulaklak. Of which symbolizes everything, that there will be a wedding to happen. Everything was on mint-green and white. It is my favorite color after all. It’s a good thing that dad’s security was ready for this.
“It is not too late to run away, Mauveine.”
I’m sorry, Deanne. I’ve made up my mind already.
“Goodluck, Mauveine!”
Everyone’s eyes were on me. I could tell that many of them were delighted with my presence. They all wore formal dresses with anything mint green on it.
I let out a heavy sigh then I force myself to move forward. Slow music invaded my ears.
Mom and Dad approached me.
They escorted me to the altar.
“Anak, I’m so sorry.” Wika ni Dad. As you should be.
“Don’t be, Dad.” Sagot ko na lamang.
“Mauveine, please understand us.”
“I’m trying my best, Mom.” Mahina kong tugon sa kanya.
Sa totoo lang, I’ve never imagined myself that I’m walking down the aisle with my parents beside me, escorting me to the altar where the groom of whom I don’t love, waits for my arrival.
I’m wide awake and this wedding is really happening.
He looked at me intently, of which made me tremble even more. He looked very handsome and neat in his black tuxedo. He got himself a clean haircut, kaya medyo naninibago ako sa kanya. He used to have a mullet hairstyle, days ago.
He smiled at me, genuinely.
Mikael offered his hand to me, and I accepted it. Napa-upo kami sa harapan ng pari.
The mass went on. Cheers were everywhere. The choir sang. While I did nothing but to stare at the floor.
Why am I even here?
Nilamon na naman ako ng pagsisi. Should I just take Deanne’s suggestion earlier? Would that make this situation much more manageable? Or it would just make everything out of hand?
“Mikael Jarren Valiente, do you take Mauveine Zelliana Arellano as your lawful wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, ‘till death do you apart?” the priest asked Mikael.
“I do.” He answered right after. I really don’t know how to react.
That just added to the guilt I’m feeling right now.
His freedom is on line yet he still manage to cross it.
I shivered as I heard my name called by the priest.
“Mauveine Zelliana Arellano, do you take Mikael Jarren Valiente as your lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, ‘till death do you apart?”
“I-I do…” I said almost hesitantly. It was almost a whisper, but it was enough for the priest and Mikael to hear it.
After the vows have been said, we exchanged rings.
It took a while for me to put the ring on his finger because my hands were literally shaking.
Then, the priest once again spoke.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
The crowd cheered as Mikael flipped my veil, revealing my bare face, he smiled. Just like few moments ago, his smile was genuine.
He closed the gap between us but before he could even do that, he whispered something to me.
“You’re so beautiful, Mauveine.”
With that my heart pounded even more.
Then, he claimed my lips, with that I closed my eyes.
It’s official. The wedding is over, and I couldn’t run away anymore.
I just knew that the tears that I’ve been holding back, started to escape.
Everyone seems happy and that excludes me.
We’re in the middle of a meadow filled with flowers. White carpet was laid all over the venue. Silver Chiavari chairs with mint green sashes were placed with round tables covered with white cloth. There were also bouquets of flowers place in the middle of the tables. This is an open venue. I think that it’s already 2pm in the afternoon. The sun was not quite harsh, it was bright enough to make this field alive yet not enough to burn our skin. The breeze was calm as if it anticipates our celebration for this afternoon. The weather was perfect because it doesn’t show any chances of raining. It was evident when fancy cars started to occupy the lot, nearby. Sinalubong sila nila
CHAPTER 5I woke up when I felt streaks of sunlight caressed my face. I also heard the birds chirping from the window. I walked towards the bathroom area while I let out a yawn. That made me jump. Who the hell I am with?! And how dare him call me by my second name?Tumingin ako ng diretso sa kanya. I was about to panic but it was just…Him. It was Mikael. He was wearing a white tank top and long black pants. I must admit that his physique is way manly than his age. He’s two years older than me. He is twenty, while I’m eighteen. Not to mention that he has such a handsome face, I really can’t argue with that.Vivid memories flashed f
CHAPTER 6What the hell? The woman kissed Mikael on his cheek.Do they have a relationship or something? The woman only showed her silly face of which made Mikael's eyebrows to meet."Zaida! Stop it."Kilala pala siya ni Mikael. Now the only thing I’m wondering is their relationship. I was just rooted at my place. Then the woman faced me, wearing her silly smile. Nanatili siyang nakatitig sa akin. It was just a matter of seconds when something hits her realization."Oh, my goodness! You must be Mauveine Arellano, right?" iniayos niya ang kanyang postura at agad na napabitaw kay Mikael. Tuluyan niya na rin akong nilapitan. Muntik pa nga siyang matapilok.Napatango na lamang ako sa tanong niya. Her expression immediately turned bright."I'm Zaida Valiente, and I'm Mikael's cousin." My jaw dropped open by what she has said.I thought she was his lover or what. Muntik na nga akong masuka sa pinag-iisip ko.I was about to
CHAPTER 7 After I took a bath and got dressed, Zaida’s words still managed to cross my mind. “Mikael’s mother had an affair with another man years back, and that caused his indecent history with girls. Mikael couldn’t even stand his mother, that he moved out of their house right after he knew about it. His relationship with his mother was not the same as it was before, until now. I know, it’s not a reason for him to be a jerk because it was clearly his choice… but please do take a little amount of consideration for my cousin, Mauveine. I don’t want to see him that wrecked again…” I pulled my hair out of frustration. That explains pretty much everything. The day when I formally met Mikael’s parents, he was literally distant to his mother. He must have been so hurt of what happened. But Zaida was right. Mikael’s actions are no longer anyone’s fault because it was his choice. I don’t know if he feels satisfied with girl
CHAPTER 8Napabitaw kami sa pagkakayakap sa isat-isa nang tumunog ang phone ko.Wait---- What the hell just happened?!It was a relief that the phone call made an escape to ease the awkwardness between us.I couldn’t see Mikael’s face because he looked on the other side, while massaging his nape.I could feel my cheeks heating up, so I turned my back on him. I glanced back to my phone, and it revealed the caller. It was Mikael’s mom.Could timings get any worse?I excused myself to Mikael and he let me be. Naglakad na agad ako patungo sa balcony. I let go a heavy and deep sigh before answering the call.“Hello Tita Valeen, yes this is Mauveine.”There was no answer on the other line. Don’t tell me…“Mauveine? Could you please welcome us? I’m sorry for the sudden visit, honey.”I pl
I suddenly remembered my parents. I was used to have my parents’ attention since I’m their only child, and what I’m feeling now seems surreal. They never reached out to since the wedding happened. I feel like they just abandoned me out of nowhere. Those thoughts of mine were quite disturbing and exaggerated, but I managed to set it aside. He was facing the ceiling. He looks so tranquil while sleeping.
CHAPTER 11It was the time when I realized that we’ve been staring at each other for quite some time, when someone knocked at our door. I must’ve looked pathetic wearing such smile at Mikael. I took that opportunity to change my clothes. Is he thinking that I’m going through his stuff? If that is what he’s thinking, then he’s wrong. I would never be that low. I let a heavy sigh out.Hindi ko na siya pinans
CHAPTER 11There was no regret in what we are doing. We stopped the kiss to catch our breaths in. I could feel my heart beating fast, yet I didn’t really put more attention to that. His hands were also getting a hold of my bare waist. I let our gaze meet once more. His eyes were smoking hot and so as he.Napangiti na lamang ako ng wala sa oras at ganoon rin siya. Nasa malalim na parte na pala kami, at hindi ko iyon namalayan kanina.I had decided to dive into the water to take a glimpse of the seafloor. From there I was able confirm that I really stepped on to a bunch of seaweeds. After a minute or so I can’t hold my breath any longer, so I emerged.I was taken aback when Mikael spoke.“It’s your turn now. Would you let me know you more?
