Chapter 1

I was walking down the road aimlessly without a destination hoping that my feet will take me to a place where it won’t hurt anymore. I don’t know how long I have been walking or where I ended up coming, and nor do I see where I am going cause all my mind could see right now was that scene replaying over and over again like an endless nightmare.

It was another successful client that I was able to sign up today which marks the 100^th high net worth client who we will be helping to build a luxurious mansion for. I am the owner of G & M Construction which has been built alongside my husband of 7 years. Abigail Monroe was a nobody a decade ago, but if you say this name in the construction world today, it’s a name that has been making ripples along with Nathan Greyson. I had this dream of building my own empire one day, and my passion has always been in Interior designing. It was a passion that I developed whilst I was in high school after I started dating Nathan, my best friend since I was 11.

We have been neighbors since Nathan’s family moved into our town New Ulm from Florida when we were 11. Since we both were the same age, we hit it off really well and ended up becoming best friends. It was not until 15 when we both realized that we had been developing feelings for each other throughout our friendship and decided to take our relationship to the next stage. He was always passionate about building and constructing, and I always wanted to be the biggest supporter he has. As our relationship kept getting deeper, I started dreaming big for our future. That’s when I developed my passion for interior designing and realized that I have a great talent at it.

It felt like it was fate that we both were passionate about something that went hand in hand. Although Nathan was not much of a businessman, I was good at marketing and negotiating. Hence, I worked hard day and night to make our dream a reality. We got married right after high school although people called us crazy. But we were crazy, because we were crazily in love with each other. And from the time we graduated high school, I have worked towards achieving our dreams by doing internships, working multiple part-time jobs to finance ourselves, our studies and our dream. I was not the only one as Nathan also put in all his effort. So I can only say that this success which we face right now was a joint effort from both our ends.

He is my soulmate, but his only flaw is that he doesn’t like to be involved in the management side of the business. G&M Construction is our baby and with our 100^th client who signed up today, we have finally been able to bring our revenue up to USD 100 million. It only seems fitting that today will be a great day to break the news to him about how our baby is expanding not only in terms of the company, but also in terms of fruits of our love. I took the sonogram that I got from my appointment a week ago but was waiting for the perfect opportunity to break the news to Nathan. I know that he will be over the moon when he hears this news.

Whilst I was walking out of the office, my secretary Sandra who is a 35-year-old strawberry blonde with a slender figure calls my name “Hey Abi! Don’t forget that you have a meeting with the Warner Brother studios tomorrow to discuss their newest addition the studio” I walk towards her with a smile and say “How could I ever forget with my trusted secretary reminding me about it like every day since it was schedule a week ago?” I teased her lightly. Although she is my employee, I treat her like a good friend because we did end up getting closer after working together for over 6 years already. She knows me like the back of her hand, and she has also been my biggest confidante after of course Nathan and my sister Andrea who is only two years younger than me.

Sandra smiled cheekily at me and said, “well, it’s not everyday that my boss gets good news which left her all giddy and scatterbrained for the past week” and added a wink to me. I laughed lightly and said, “I hope that you didn’t slip it out accidentally or that I am taking the rest of the day off to anybody cause I want to give a surprise to Nathan before he gets home after his meeting”. She laughed and added “Nathan is a lucky man to have gotten you” my heart filled with warmth at her words before she asked me “are you going straight home?”

“No I have to drop by my sisters place before I get home cause I left the decorations there so that Nathan won’t suspect anything if he finds them at our place. I am so glad that Andrea never sold her apartment or gave it out on rent after getting married cause it really is a safe haven whenever we need to do something inconspicuous or need some space to ourselves” I said with a slight smile.

Sandra chuckled at that before leaning in and softly whispering to me with a teasing look like she’s about to tell me the biggest secret in the world “she’s the richest missus in New York city. I am sure she can afford it” before laughing at her own joke. I rolled my eyes at her and added “Yeah well, we never grew up to splurge and now it seems like it’s just second nature to her. Anyway, got to go before I get late since I have a lot of decorations to do for my little surprise” and walked off with a wave at Sandra.

I was so blissfully happy on my way thinking about how my life turned out. I have the best husband in the world and the best sister and family who have supported me in everything that I do. We have finally made it in life as we now own a luxury apartment in New York city and I am driving my dream car which is a Jaguar XJ and now I am nurturing a life inside of me. With these happy thoughts I drove towards my sister’s house and parked the car on the other side of the apartment building cause it was more convenient for me and went into the elevator. I am not expecting my sister to be at her apartment as she hardly ever visits this apartment and will only be there when she wants to spend some sisterly time with me with just the two of us without any of our spouses. And even if she does want to spend time with our spouses, I don’t think that I will ever feel comfortable doing so with her husband in presence. He has the most intimidating aura and only she can handle interacting with him.

With all these thoughts running in my head, I didn’t realize that I have already arrived at the 16^th floor which is where the apartment is located at. I walked and typed in the passcode which is her birthday, I got inside the house and the first thing I noticed was two tangled bodies on the carpeted floor in front of the fireplace. They were so absorbed in each other that they never realized the arrival of a third party and my first instinct was to run back out thinking that I walked in on my sister and her husband having sex until I froze on my spot when I realized that the man who was pumping into her whilst moaning and groaning was none other than my own husband. I could not move from my spot, nor could I utter a single word and I watched helplessly as my world crashed down right in front of my eyes whilst watching the love of my life screaming out his climax inside my sister and hearing her soft whimpers as she screamed his name out whilst climaxing.

It was then that I realized that the world that I built, the world that I thought was mine has been scattered into pieces.
