She stared at her sister's teary eyes and could see how slim her 8 year old sister was.
"Sweethearts just hang in there. Mommy will get you something to eat, okay?" Her mom, Catherine Sunville assured them even though she was sure her mom didn't have any means of sorting things out. Although she was just 12, she could see how things had not been too good for her family. Ever since her father died when her younger sister was just born, things had been very tough for Catherine to cater for them. She had gotten a small job which was the highest she could get as she was an illiterate. She had lost her job 2 years ago and things had worsen for them since then. Catherine had relied on one of her billionaire's wife friend who would send her little change once in a while. "Mom," she called out, sitting beside her mom on the brown leather chair that begged to be changed, her younger sister was sitting on Catherine's lap. They were sitting in the almost empty one room flat as Catherine had sold almost all their stuff to get money for feeding. The parlor only had a sofa and 2 old chairs while the room only had a ten-year-old bed with a closet. Catherine turned to her and she still saw the hope here mom possessed even in the toughest times. Catherine had never given up even though they had nothing, it didn't stop her from having the hope that things will get better. "Trust me love. I'll find a way to get food for you two to eat." Catherine pondered on something for a while before smiling. "Maybe we could go ask Mrs Nice Woman for help." That was the name they called the rich woman who would always send money to her mom whenever they needed it, although she wasn't sure if she would do that at that point because the last time they went to her house, her husband got really irate at their presence that it led to him shouting at 'Mrs Nice Woman' which only made her mad at them. "I'll follow you." She said. She couldn't let her mom go to the house alone. Even though she couldn't say or do anything if the husband was shouting at them, maybe the sight of a child will soften their heart. Catherine shook her head. "There's no need love, I'll be fine." "No mom, I want to follow." She made it clear she was not taking no for an answer. She was going to follow no matter what and Catherine knew she was going to lose in the debate so there was no need for arguments. "Okay." *** They were on their way to 'Mrs Nice Woman' house and she found herself a little nervous. She had not been to the house before so going there made tension build in her for no sensible reason. She clutched her mother's hand tightly, hoping it would suppress her twitchy feeling but it didn't work although it seemed to have bought Catherine's awareness to it as she stared down at her. "Are you okay love?" "Yes I am." Lies, she wasn't close to being okay. Being this nervous made her stomach hurt and her body shaky. "Are you nervous?" "No mom." More lies. "Are you sure?" Before she could make out another lie, her younger sister pulled into her mom's dress. "I want to have a wee mom." She said innocently. "Now? But where will we find a toilet? Can't you hold it in?" Her sister shook her head. "No mom, I can't." Catherine sighed. "I guess it'll be a bush wee then." "Mom, I'll wait for you guys in front okay?" "Okay, but stay in sight okay?" "Okay, I just want to check out the flower shop I saw up front." She released her mom from her grip, walking a little further from them. She was hopping to the flower shop, hoping that would stop her from being so nervous. As she was hopping, she realized she was getting into a more crowded zone. She turned back to see if she could still see her mom but she was out of sight. She couldn't go back so she decided to just keep going to the flower shop and wait for them there. She kept on hopping but immediately came to a halt when she felt a figure hit her hard it caused her to stagger backwards almost landing on her butt, but grabbed onto a rail she didn't realize was there. "What on earth-who are you?" She heard a voice say. When she finally got her composure, she turned to see the figure that had hit her. It was a boy who was about the same age as she was. She noticed his white shirt was stained by what she guessed was juice. It took her a few seconds to process what had happened, it seemed like the boy had bumped into her and was holding a cup of juice that he had splashed on his shirt. "Look at what you caused you moron!" His voice was loud which only infuriated her. "What I caused?!" She shouted back, if there was something she hated, it was being blamed for something that was not her fault. "Is it my fault that you were blind enough to not see me hopping towards you!" "You crazy girl have ruined my shirt!" His voice had increased but that wasn't going to intimidate her. "You ruined your shirt!" Her voice came out louder drawing the attention of some passersby. "If you had used your sense a little bit, you would have known you should have looked at where you were going." Judging from his expression, it was evident he wasn't used to being shouted at. "Hey, you kids shouldn't be fighting. Where are your parents?" A man's voice echoed from the crowd. He came to hold her hand. A man immediately appeared behind the raging boy. "I'm sorry for leaving you alone Mr Kelvin, let's go." He led the boy from the crowd but before the boy left he turned to her with blood-shot eyes. "You'll regret this." He said before disappearing out of sight. "Where are you headed to?" She turned to the man who was staring at her with concern. "You know you shouldn't be involving yourself in fights, where are your parents?" "Uh well my mom is-" At that moment, Catherine appeared with her younger sister. She looked confused as she stared from the man to her daughter. "What happened?" The man released her hand, explaining it all to Catherine who shot her disapproving eyes as she listened to the man *** They had finally reached the breath-taking mansion. It looked nothing like a house but instead it resembled a palace. The outside was beautiful, it was painted in beautiful whites and there were little and well taken care of elephant grasses on the floor. "Who are you looking for?" A man dressed in a white shirt and black suit with trouser asked. "I'm asking for the lady of this house." Catherine replied politely. "And who may I say you are?" "Catherine." The man left and came back in a few minutes. "Follow me." He led them in. As they got into the mansion, she found herself awed by the beauty of the interiors. The walls were filled with beautiful paintings. There were lots of beautiful flowers. The white tiles were so neat she could see her reflection. The chairs were obviously of very high price, these were the types of chairs they needed at home. There was a woman sitting on one of the sofas. She had the stature of a model. Her straight black hair was left swaying on her shoulders. "Have a seat Catherine." Her voice was sweet and nice. She guessed the woman was going to be 'Mrs Nice Woman'. As soon as the three of them sat on the very comfortable sofa, a man appeared from a place she didn't even know was there. A frown was formed on his face as soon as he sighted them and she immediately guessed he was her husband. "What is she doing here?" He turned to his wife. "I thought you promised she'd never show her face here again." His voice was stern and bought fear to her spines as she held on to her mom's shirt. "Honey, don't be mean." 'Mrs Nice Woman' said, standing up. Immediately, the door opened and her jaw dropped to the ground when she sighted the boy she had had a fight with. She immediately regretted everything and felt tears threatening to fall from her eyes. He sighted her immediately and she saw his expression change from whatever it was before to complete hatred and choler. She found her heart racing ten times more. "You," he walked towards her, causing her to involuntarily stand up, "why is she here?!" He demanded in an unnecessarily loud tone that caused her to flinch. "What on earth is she doing here! I don't want to see her face!" "Listen-" She wanted to apologize but he didn't seem to want to listen. "Kelvin dear, what's the problem?" 'Mrs Nice Woman' who was obviously his mom asked. "I don't want to see her!" His scream was getting louder. "She dared to talk back at me! I don't want to see her or any of her family!" "But-" "Leave now!" His mum was interrupted by his dad. Catherine looked confuzzled as she tried to make out what was going on. "But-" "I said leave." His voice was demanding and stern. Catherine turned to Kelvin's mom, her eyes pleaded for her to help. "Just leave." "Wh-" "Leave." Her voice also became stern and they knew it was their queue to leave. "And don't come again." That had hurt her as she turned to Kelvin who seemed very pleased with what was happening. She didn't know what to do. Their only hope was gone but she was sure her mom was going to find a way to settle things for them, she always did. Once outside, she turned to her mom. "What are we going to do now?" She asked in a low voice and when her mom turned to her, for the first time in a long time she saw tears in her mom's eyes. "I don't know, I really don't." That was it, all hope was gone. They had nothing anymore, they had no where to go or no one to run to. The only family member was Catherine's brother who was also suffering and couldn't help. *** The last week had been filled with suffering. Her mom had had nothing to eat and they were surviving by the little Catherine would bring for them from wherever she went to. They had spent most of the nights hungry and just crying themselves to sleep. She could sense Catherine was considering selling the house but that was not a right option as they would be left homeless and even if they rented a house they would still have to pay rent and would probably lose all the money soon. The house was also the only memory left of her dad, she didn't want to lose it. It was afternoon, she had told her mom to rest while she tried to distract her sister from hunger. She walked to the room and stared at her mom sleeping unusually stiff. Her heart began racing. Her mom had not eaten for a whole week. "No No No." She felt her eyes tear up as she walked closer to her mom. She slowly bent to touch her and the reality dawn on her as soon as she felt her mom's cold skin. She was too shocked to say anything. Her life had broken to shatters. She felt the tears pour down her cheeks but she couldn't move. She barely heard the sound of her mom's phone vibrate. She wasn't sure how she mustered the courage to turn, she saw an alert from Kelvin's mom '$2657'. "No." This time it came with tears evident in her tone. Why did her mom not wait longer? Immediately the phone rang, she saw it was Kelvin's mom but she didn't answer. She stared at mom. It wasn't possible, she didn't want to believe it. "Mom." She called out hoping her mom would open her eyes, laugh and say it was all a prank. She didn't realize when her sister walked into the room running to Catherine with tears dipping down her cheeks and her shouting words she couldn't ear. It felt like her ears were covered with tears. All of this happened because of Kelvin and she made a promise to herself that day that if she were to find Kelvin ever, she would make him suffer. -Eri Sunville- I heaved a huge sigh. Why was this happening to me? Why did bad things only happen to those who can't handle it? If this were to be happening to a billionaire or something, he wouldn't care but why me. Was my family cursed? I dropped my phone, covering my face with both palms, resting the back of my palm on my knee as I just sat there on the bed. I recalled the conversation I just had with the doctor and if I heard him right, which I obviously did, my younger sister had pancreatic cancer. I mean why? Why is the world so cruel? She's the only one I have, the only one I can be with and now the world wants to take her away. Doctor Mike had said the treatment would cost $55000. I mean $55000. Do I look like Bill Gates? Where in the world was I supposed to get such a huge amount? I have never even seen a quarter of the amount before not to talk of raising it and I needed to do it fast as the disease must not stay in her body for much longer else it could become worse. Apparently, Doctor Mike had said she still had stage 2 cancer and it was still easy to treat and we must do that quickly before it advances to stage 3.-Eri Sunville-I heaved a huge sigh. Monday had arrived like the speed of light. The email had told me that I'd be starting my work on a Monday. I had decided to dress as beautiful as I could on my first day of work in a very famous company. I was going to be working as the personal assistant and secretary of a billionaire. A BILLIONAIRE. I had never even seen a millionaire but I'd be standing side by side with not just any billionaire, but Don Jones, a multi billionaire.I walked inside the company, heading straight to Dina who smiled at me. "Wow Eri, you go the job?""Yes, I'm so happy." I took the pen, wrote my name and the time. "Please where's my office?""It's on the last floor.""Thanks." I dropped the pen, about to leave before Dina's words stopped me"You know, you should be coming more early. You're late and Mr Jones hate people coming late.""I'm not late." That was surprising to hear, I even thought I had come too early so I would not cause any problem on my first day of work."It's 8:14" She said like I had
"Get me a cup of coffee." He demanded. He was way too demanding. Maybe if he said 'please' once in a while, it may make working with him less stressful.I immediately complied to his request, making a cup of coffee for him which I placed on a small tray, handing it over to him when I had reached him. If I had expected a 'thank you' from him, I was probably losing it. He just took the cup and started sipping from it and guess what, he still had his head buried to that laptop."Miss Eri, I'd need you to find a time where I'd be free, I need to have a meeting with the CEO of Centeial international, I can't postpone it because they are one of the most prominent companies and they want to strike a deal with Jonzx Haiè. Do you understand?"I had no idea why he was being so detailed but I nodded either way. "Yes sir." I checked the tab for any available space."The meeting would hold between 2-2:45 p:m tomorrow." I continued scrolling on the tab. "And you have a meeting with the fellow share
-Don Jones-I dropped my laptop in my back, checking the time on the clock on my desk, it was 9 p.m already. I was sure Miss Dina would be so frustrated working as the receptionist knowing she can't close till I leave the office.I stood up, holding my bag. I felt continues vibrations coming from the pocket of my trouser. When I removed my phone to check who was calling, I was not surprised to see my mom calling. She called very often. I answered the call, walking towards the door."Yes mom.""Are you done with working?" The sweet and nice tone she always possessed spoke in my ears."Hmm, why?" I got out of my office, locking it, before heading to the elevator. I pressed the button and watched the door separate before entering it, pushing the first floor button, I stared as the door closed."Could help me pick Violin on your way? She went on a date to some bar called Holm's or something and was ditched by the guy so she needs someone to pick her up.""Why can't you send a driver or so
I thought I'd feel odd standing in front of Don's family but instead, it was the opposite. I felt more comfortable when I saw the other PA's from other family member."Everything's going well, I just can't wait for this wedding. I'm so happy." A woman who I assumed to be Don's mom said in such a sweet and familiar tone. "Yes, everything seems to be ready." Don spoke in an uninterested tone. I wondered how stressful it'd be being June at that moment. His mother turned to my direction. "Oh my, is this your new personal assistant?" Don didn't reply, I wasn't sure he heard her or if he heard, maybe he just chose to ignore. "Wow, you remind me so much of June. If it weren't for the different hair, I would guess you were June from behind."I wasn't sure if that was a compliment, but I smiled. "Thank you Mrs Jones.""I'm no longer going to be Mrs Jones when June gets married so I think I'd prefer you call me Miss Leila."I had no idea what to say. All eyes were on me which was so discomfort
Don Jones-I wasn't sure if knowing I was getting married today was supposed to make me happy or not.It was definitely going to increase my stocks as joining hands with the Silvers international was a big deal. This was certainly a good idea. The wedding was not until 2 p.m, this was just 8 a.m although I was already in the hall, dressed.I stared at myself once more in the mirror, I looked stunning in the black custom-made tailored tuxedo I had on. My hair had been greased to the back which I would admit suit me a lot.A knock came from the door. "Come in."The door opened and Miss Eri appeared. She looked stunning, I don't think I've ever seen her this beautiful before. She was dressed in a red knee length gown that showed off her curves. Her hair was left to fall beautifully, she hadn't done a lot of makeup, but her natural self was enough to make a man drool.I didn't let any of this admiration evident in my face as I just maintained a straight face. She smiled. "It's your weddin
Never in a million years would I have guessed I'd be getting married like this. When Don had told his family, they had been so against it, especially a girl who was about my age, I think her name was Violin or something. His dad had made his 'no' as evident as anything. The way all of them refused me was enough to make me change my mind, but Don holding my hand made me feel assured, I felt like I had authority. After lots and lots of persuasion, they finally agreed.Luckily, June's wedding dress fit me perfectly but was equally discomforting, it showed an indecent amount of my cleavage. The hairstylist had done my hair in ways I didn't know was possible. My makeup was stunning, when I stared at myself in the mirror I couldn't believe who was there.I was literally getting married to a multi billionaire. I was going to be swimming in riches. Was this really a good idea? This was only a marriage of two years, it's not like I'm forced to spend the rest of my life with him.But didn't it
A scream left my throat as I saw my sister, only family member, lay lifeless on the floor.I ran to her, with shaky hands, remembering how I'd felt my mom's cold body, I touched her skin.A pinch of relief flowed through my blood when I realized she was still warm.Oh thank God. I knelt down beside her, tapping her, tears blurring my sight. "Suzy, Suzy wake up."I tried to raise her up, but knew it'd be to no advantage so I stood up, running out of the room and out of the house to where the driver was still packed."Help! I need your help!" I couldn't get my head straight. The man looked confused, his eyes were bulged out and he looked scared, like he was experiencing a crime scene."I-Is everything okay ma'am." His voice was shaky, but that wasn't what I cared about."I need you to take her to the hospital, now!" My whole body was shaking, my breath seemed to be coming out slower. He got down from the car immediately, running into the house like the speed of light.I followed behind
Three years Later"Oh my Eri, you look stunning." Suzy said, staring at Eri with much brightness in her eyes.Eri stared at herself once more in the mirror of the place they were in.Suzy was right, she did look great. She had on a dark blue spaghetti handle ankle length gown that popped out her curves, showing a moderate amount of her cleavage. Her hair, which had been cut to shoulder and dyed brown, was left to sway on her shoulders and made her look even prettier. The makeup artist had done wonders to her face. She was the definition of beauty."And you don't look too bad either." She threw a glance at Suzy who was dressed in a gray knee length gown that was flared from the waist downwards."Although you'd have looked prettier if you were coming with a man behind you, like seriously you're twenty-four, when would you get a boyfriend."Just like she'd been doing everytime Eri asked her the question, she rolled her eyes. "As I say this, when the right man come-""-he comes." Rose com
-Don Jones-As I was typing on the laptop, I suddenly felt bad for the way I'd treated Eri.I was too busy to give her enough time. She was a human after all and needed some attention.I was sure she thought I'd forgotten about our anniversary, but I hadn't (which would've been the dumbest thing if I had).I didn't want to pay too much attention to it as I'd planned a surprise for our anniversary and I knew myself, if I was to pay too much attention to it, I might ruin the surprise one way or another (as I was terrible at keeping things). The vibrations from my phone on the desk beside my laptop, interrupted my thoughts.I decided to ignore it. I needed to finish work and didn't want any interruptions.Realizing it wasn't nice to ignore messages, I reached for my phone. It could be a client or something.I unlocked the phone, puckering my forehead when I noticed I'd gotten a text from Eri.She barely ever texted me. Why would she do so all of a sudden?I clicked on the message.'Dom,
-Rose Dern-Stretching on the very soft and comfortable bed, I sat straight on the bed.It had been two weeks in Canada and I hadn't found a reason to regret my decision.Darien hadn't made any move on me yet, which I was comfortable and glad about. We mostly ate, talked and worked. We'd also not met his family yet, but we were supposed to go today and truth be told, I was really nervous.I went to the bathroom in my room, took a shower and brushed my teeth, then came out with a towel wrapped around me.I reached for my suitcase that lay beside my bed. Opening it, I began selecting clothes.I needed to look beautiful to meet Darien's parents. I couldn't just go looking whack, they might just throw me out as they were obviously rich and probably wanted their son's girlfriend to be the same. Finally, after about ten minutes I decided to put on the flare red off-shoulder knee length gown.I sat on the chair in front of the mirror, picking up the brush on the small table in front of me. I
-Rose Dern-I stared nervously at the black suitcase in my hand. Was I really doing the right thing? I mean, traveling all the way to Canada with a man I hadn't dated up to a month, was that a smart idea? Not to talk of the fact I would be meeting his family. The Mr and Mrs Stan. That thought made me shiver."Enjoy your trip, and don't forget to call, okay?" Suzy pulled me to a warm hug which I returned."Bye now." I pulled apart, allowing the bodyguard to take my suitcase from me, placing it in the boot of the car I entered.I was to head to Darien's place and we'd both head to the airport and get to Canada. The drive to his place didn't stop me from feeling nervous.I tried to convince myself it was just a business trip and we'd just be going to visit his parents. It was nothing serious. The car came to a halt in front of a beautiful and huge mansion. It was way bigger than the one I lived in with Suzy, but it was slightly smaller than Don's.I came out of the car as soon as a man o
I stared at all the puzzled gazes directed to me.Don was staring intensely at me, like he was trying to read my mind or something. But the worst gaze was from Rhys and Lucy. They were literally searing holes into my forehead.Jenny just sat on the sofa beside me, her expression unwavering. Her gaze was directed to mostly Lucy."So... why are we here?" Rhys asked after the two minute silence since everyone had settled down.Normally, I wouldn't care to call them even though it had to do with their daughter (you may call me mean, but still, why would I care about them), but I realized since Don is a man of power and so is Rhys.If I can combine both powers, June might be found easily.I turned to Jenny who didn't return the gaze. "Could you please repeat everything you told me earlier today."All stares were directed to her, but she still didn't seem affected. Her gaze was still directed to Lucy."I apologize for not saying this earlier, but Miss Silver is pregnant."I noticed the thre
-Lucy Silvers- I just stared at Rhys pacing back and forth round the room, looking as stressed as ever. He ran his hand through his hair like the billionth time. At this rate, he was going to hurt himself from stress. "Fuck. Shit." That was like the hundredth time he was cussing. "How could she do this? How could she attempt murder three times? Three fucking times?!" "Ah shit." He stopped by the wall, punching it hard, I was certain he was going to be bleeding. Either way, I sat on the bed unmoving. He seemed to notice my behavior because he stopped to stare at me like I was loosing it, when in fact he was the one who looked insane. "Why aren't you taking this seriously?" He creased his brows. "Were you in this with her?" I scoffed barely audibly. "What should I do? Should I roll around the floor, crying and pleading for anyone to find June." From his gaze, it was obvious he thought I was traumatized by losing my only child, but that was so far from the truth. "You know, I k
-Rose Dern-I stared intensely at Eri who had suddenly turned pale, clutching harder to the bedsheet. One might think I was being mean, but I loved Eri more than anything in the world and for as long as June was out there, Eri wasn't safe.Three times! Three times she'd almost died. It was a miracle she was still alive. If she died, it would be too much to handle. I wouldn't be able to move on. Eri's a sister not just a friend and I just can't lose her."Eri—""No." She cut me off sharply."No?" I sighed. I knew this wasn't going to be easy. She stared at me, her gaze softening which warmed my heart. "I understand why you're saying this, it's because you care.""Yes and—""But you should know that as much as I love you two, I'm also in love with Don and can't spend the rest of my life away from him."I bit my lower lip, trying to calm my hurt.Obviously I knew she loved Don, but June loved him more and would do anything to get him."But what if you don't get to live ti—"I only rememb
-Eri Jones-The scent of cigarettes filled my nostrils. I felt my head fallen which was probably the cause of the extreme neck pain I felt.I felt a strong pain at the back of my head and wanted to rub it when I realized my hands wouldn't bulge. It was tied together behind me.Realization dawned on me that I was actually tied to a chair. Arms tied to the back and feet tied together. What was happening? I remembered being hit on the head with something and Hane running towards me.Hane. Oh no, where was she? How was she? Kate would be so worried. Did she end up getting married or came to search for Hane.I opened my eyes, straightening my extremely hurting head.Where was I? The whole place was foggy. Filled with puffs of cigarettes. The air in my lungs choked at the scent. I couldn't breathe normally. The place was obviously too small for cigarettes. But that wasn't my concern at the moment. Where was Hane and was she alright?I noticed a figure strutting through the air of smoke.I s
-Eri Jones-Since June had been in Dubai, life had been so peaceful. No fear as to where she might be or her stalking me or sending threatening texts. I'd been happy and so was Don.Today, as a way to celebrate our happiness, we'd organized a family dinner. Everyone was invited."How do I look?" I twirled around in the gray flare knee length gown I had on."Beautiful as always." Don's admiring look made me blush."Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself." Hot was the definition of how he looked. He hadn't overdressed unlike I had, still he looked so handsome. Especially since the shirt he wore popped up his biceps and broad chest.Gosh, how did I get this handsome dude to myself alone."I'm so happy June and her insane nature is somewhere else." I stared at myself in the mirror, picking a brush from the desk beside it, brushing my hair."Has she been found?" I continued brushing my hair."Not yet, but I'm sure she'd soon be found." He sounded so certain, I had to be assured."Well
