“How are you doing?” Beta Luke greeted Evelyn as he got to her cell.

Evelyn slowly lifted her head from her curled-up position as she heard Beta Luke's voice.

“Just here,” She replied wearily.

“I am here to ask you a few questions,” Beta Luke said.

“I am listening,” Evelyn said.

“The night you claimed you fought with Lisa and ran away, did you shift into your wolf?” Beta Luke asked.

“Yes, Lisa was the first person to shift to her wolf form then I did the same so I could get away from her,” Evelyn replied.

“What color is your wolf?” Beta Luke inquired.

“My wolf's fur is cream,” Evelyn replied.

“What about Lisa's?” Beta Luke probed further.

“I think hers is dark,” Evelyn answered.

“Okay. I would love to also ask you a question and I would like you to tell me the truth,” Beta Luke said, his gaze strongly fixed on Lisa.

“Okay,” Evelyn said, rolling her eyes as she wondered what his question might be.

“Do you like Grayson?” Beta Luke asked.

“Huh! Why do you ask?” Evelyn replied, a little b

They had come to the river to have a bath when they saw it,” Tara said, coming forward.“When was this?” Grayson inquired.“About thirty minutes ago. I informed the guards immediately after the children called my attention to it,” Tara said.“Where do you stay?” Grayson asked.“There,” Tara answered, pointing to her house.“Did you touch the body?” Grayson asked.“No, I couldn't go near it. I called the guards over immediately,” Tara said.“Alright, everyone step back,” Grayso

“What do they want this time?” Grayson muttered, a hint of disdain in his voice.“Lisa and Evelyn have been summoned as well,” Declan added.“Is the hearing now?” Grayson asked.“Yes, my Lord, it is,” Declan said.“Alright, you can go. We will join the elders shortly,” Grayson said, dismissing Declan with a wave of hand.“They must have heard about Clara's death, I think that's why they are summoning us,” Beta Luke said.“Clara? Who is that?” Diana inquired, raising her eyebrows.“The servant who claimed to have witnessed what happened between Lisa and Evelyn,” Beta Luke clarified.“Oh my goodness! She’s dead? How?” Diana gasped, covering her mouth in shock.Grayson rose to his feet with a steady, purposeful motion, his movements carrying a quiet intensity. His posture straightened, and his shoulders squared as he turned toward the door.“Are you leaving now?” Beta Luke asked.“Yes, let's get this done once and for all,” Grayson replied with a shrug.“Alright, I will go with you,” Bet

"That is why I said 'suspect,' Alpha Grayson. I haven't called her a criminal yet. Her ability to defend herself will prove whether she's innocent or not," Robert retorted sharply."Her innocence should not even be in question at this hearing. The trial should focus on whether she pushed Lisa or not. How did she become a suspect in a murder case that occurred while she was locked away in a cell?" Grayson said."Why are you speaking on her behalf, Alpha Grayson? Let her defend herself," James said.“I was not talking to you, James. I have the authority to speak on behalf of anyone I choose to. And as your Alpha, I command you to never speak out of turn during this hearing. You will only speak when you are asked to," Grayson declared authoritatively. The elders gasped in shock, their eyes widening and mouths slightly agape, exchanging uneasy glances. The air grew heavy with tension, their disbelief palpable as they processed the harsh reprimand directed at one of their own. “I will do no such thing,” Lisa protested, her eyes flickering around the room, avoiding direct contact with anyone as if searching for an escape. Her breath became shallow, quickening as the weight of the situation pressed down on her.“Why not? Are you hiding anything?” Grayson probed.“I am not hiding anything,” Lisa retorted sharply.“If you are not hiding anything, then change into your wolf form and let's see if these furs that were picked on the road belong to you or not,” Grayson said.“Are you sure of what you saw, young man?” Robert probed.“I swear on my life. I would not dare to lie before the Alpha and the council of elders,” Tom said.“Evelyn kindly shift into your wolf form” Robert commanded.Evelyn closed her eyes as she took a deep breath allowing Viola to take over. Her human form disappeared, replaced by a majestic wolf standing tall and strong. The wolf's coat was a soft, creamy hue, almost glowing with an ethereal beauty.Grayson’s eyes locked onto Evelyn’s wolf,

FLASHBACK TO THE STEPS LISA TOOK TO MAKE HER PLAN WORK.“Where can we get blood from?” Lisa said to Missy as they got home.“Can’t you draw from yourself?” Missy replied."It won't be enough to fake a miscarriage. I need a large quantity so that it will be more convincing," Lisa said."Hmm, where can we get blood?" Missy wondered, her eyes suddenly drifting toward the cat.“What about her?” Missy said, referring to Lisa's cat."Hell no, that's my pet," Lisa snapped.“"Think about the bigger picture, Lisa. She's worth the sacrifice," Missy urged, trying to convince her."No, not her. She's like family," Lisa protested."Then where are we supposed to get that much blood? Should we go hunting?" The elders left the room one by one as the hearing ended, their footsteps echoing down the hall as they dispersed."Are you alright?" Beta Luke asked, noticing Evelyn staring blankly, lost in her thoughts."I'll be fine," Evelyn replied softly.Don't think too much about the punishment, It’s nothing too serious. Our pack members rarely allow outsiders to care for their elderly or sick. The work you'll be doing mostly involves keeping the pack grounds clean, which isn’t even a heavy task—the servants handle most of it. So don’t let it weigh on you," Beta Luke said with a gentle tone, trying to lift her spirits."Thank you, Beta," Evelyn said, offering a small but genuine smile.Beta Luke gave her a nod before quietly departing, leaving Evelyn and Grayson alone in the room.Evelyn stood and walked to the window, her posture slumped, her eyes downcast as she stared outside into the open space, taking in fresh air.Grayson also got up from his seat and stood a few paces away from Evelyn,

The night stretched on as Grayson, Nix, and Luke kept their vigil by the burnt remains of Jerry’s car. The fire had long since dwindled, leaving only smoldering embers and charred metal. None of them spoke much, the weight of the night’s events keeping them silent. As the first rays of dawn broke through the trees, Grayson exhaled deeply, his sharp gaze still fixed on the wreckage. “It’s over,” he said quietly, his voice laced with finality. “Jerry’s gone.”Nix stretched his arms, yawning. “I’ll admit, I didn’t think the bastard would ever meet his end. But seeing this… yeah, he’s not crawling out of that one.”Luke grinned, patting Grayson on the back. “Well done, Alpha. That was one hell of a chase. I’ll never doubt your driving skills again.”Grayson smirked, finally stepping away from the ashes. “Let’s get back. We’ve been out here long enough.”They walked back to the car, the adrenaline of the night fading into exhaustion. Grayson slid into the driver’s seat, Nix and Luke ho

He thought he had escaped until the unmistakable hum of another engine reached his ears, faint but growing louder.“Damn it,” Jerry cursed under his breath, glancing at the mirror again. The faint gleam of headlights in the distance confirmed his fears. “Can this bastard drive?” He muttered to himself. He slammed his foot on the accelerator, the car jerking forward as it sped along the rugged path.In the car behind, Grayson’s hands were steady on the wheel, his sharp eyes cutting through the night like a predator stalking its prey. Don’t let the wolves take us down easily!”“We can’t let them escape!” Luke shouted, his voice cutting through the noise as he and his men charged forward.Hunters fired their weapons wildly, the sound of gunfire mingling with the guttural growls of wolves mid-shift. Nix’s warriors flanked the hunters, their speed and strength overpowering the disorganized defenses. In the chaos, Jerry’s sharp eyes caught sight of his car parked near the edge of the camp, half-hidden in the shadows of the surrounding trees.
