Eighty one

EVE'S POV

I gave Daniel a worried look.

"I wanted to get to Hillside."

"You can't make it, not tonight. You should be indoors, Eve. Where do you live? I can take you back quickly before I go home."

I swallowed and bit my lip. I didn’t have a place to go anymore.

The wind blew stronger, and a wave of rain reached us in the back of the shelter. Daniel shook his head and reached for my suitcase.

"Get in the car."

I watched as he took my luggage to the back of the car and then opened the passenger door for me. The rain beat down on him as he waited for me to hurry over.

I ducked into the car, and he shut the door after me, then went around to the driver’s side.

The sudden change in temperature was a relief. The inside of the car was warm, a lot better than being out in the cold.

As soon as Daniel sat down in the driver's seat, he shrugged off his coat and reached over to place it around my shoulders. I tried to reject the offer, but he insisted.
