The day of the full moon came and Leah’s nerves were shot. She knew that she needed to return to the compound but was hesitant to go.

Seth came to fetch her and Caleb decided to return with her as well. He wanted to be there with her for moral support.

“I’m scared,” Leah confessed to Seth, “what if I don’t turn? What will happen to me then?”

“Don’t you stress about that now. Everything will turn out as it should be. I do however have a feeling that you will turn. You are stronger than you think.”

“Will it be painful?” Asked Leah almost shaking with nerves.

“Yes, your first turn is always painful, but it isn’t anything that you can’t handle.” Seth had faith in Leah and knew that she was up for the challenge.

“We best get going.” Said Caleb as he looked at his watch. “We don’t want to be late as there are still preparations back at the compound that need to be made.” Caleb knew that if he got Leah there a while before her turn that she would feel less stressed about it.

Leah awoke frightened and disorientated, her nightmares seemed more frequent now and became more detailed. They always left her light-headed, breathless, and confused. Almost nauseous when she stood up. She had no idea what was going on with her. She had never suffered from nightmares before, so what could have changed?Leah Stardust was a senior at Birchwood High, who turned eighteen in the next few days. Her mother, Amber, was the owner of Silver Stardust, the esoteric shop in Birchwood that specialized in crystal, Tarot, and Wiccan workshops.Leah’s routine hadn’t changed since 6th Grade, every morning was the same. Wake up, get dressed, have breakfast, walk with her mother to her store and then and then the short way to school. The forest behind their home had always felt magical to her. That might be because it was her mother’s special place where she cleansed her crystals in either the river between their house and the forest or in the clearing in the forest itself. Her spec

Leah longingly passed the glass cabinet towards her mom’s office which was decorated with all things Wiccan. Leah marveled at the room every time she entered it. She loved its smell and all that it contained. There was always a new item added. One that Amber had either purchased or been gifted by another witch.Leah noticed that her mom had a new tarot deck sitting on a shelf in her office. “Where did you get this from, Mom? I’ve never seen it before.” Asked Leah intrigued to know its origin. Dying to take a look at it. To feel the card against her skin and to take in the intricate symbols and drawings.“I purchased it from an auction house. It was a steal as they had no idea just how precious it really was.” Answered Amber, she smiled fondly as she remembered the feeling of joy she experienced when she held the item for the first time. Its power hummed through her from her head to her toes.“What makes it so special, Mom?” Asked Leah, as she hoped to learn more about the special Taro

Amber decided to stay longer after the store had closed as there was some paperwork and arrangements that she wanted to take care of. Something that she didn’t want to leave until the next morning.Leah got home and went to lie down on her bed. She tossed and turned but couldn’t seem to fall asleep. She also felt bad for leaving her mom alone at the store to handle the load of paperwork, so she decided to go back to help her.Leah unlocked and opened the front door of Silver Stardust, causing the bell to tinkle, and noticed that her mother was not at the front desk. She must have been in the back getting the rooms ready for her workshops on Saturday. Amber always took such pride in her work and Leah had learned to do the same. She couldn’t have asked for a better role model. As she entered through the curtain separating the front and back areas, she realized that her mother was not alone. She could distinctly hear two voices. She tried to make out who was there with her mom, but all

She was running through a forest, it was dark and damp outside. The sky was crystal clear, the stars were big and beautiful. Her lungs were burning as she ran faster than she ever had before, and her legs were screaming for her to stop aching in places she never knew were possible. But she couldn’t stop. She had to find it. Something was calling for her, but she had no clue as to what is was. All she knew was that she couldn't stop running. The urgency of the matter pushed her faster and faster. Further into the forest. Further to what was calling her. Something she desperately had to get to.Wait. She knew this forest. It was the one behind her home. She looked down and noticed that she was wearing full leather fighting gear. Gear that she knew she didn’t own, hadn’t even seen in stores nearby. She’d seen similar outfits in the books in her mother's store but that was it. The books she loved to page through over and over again. Never getting tired of the imagery and stories. W

Leah woke up gasping for air, her lungs on fire. She was drenched in sweat from head to toe. She was so exhausted that she could barely lift her head. Where was she? What had just happened? She tried to calm down but she felt disoriented and extremely weak. "Leah! Love, are you okay?" Leah’s mom was by her side and so was Kamali. "We were so worried about you and we had no way of stopping your nightmare. You shook as I’ve never seen anyone shake before. It looked as if you were having a seizure." "Mom, where am I? What happened?" Leah spoke, almost in a croaky whisper. Her throat burned like fire and she was still out of breath. Whatever she’d just gone through had taken it all out of her. She felt empty and exhausted. "You passed out at the store. We were busy bandaging up your hand when you blacked out on the bed. We tried, but there was nothing that we could do to stop it." Her mom was shaking as she spoke. Leah had never seen her so concerned before, and it scared Leah t

Amber went all out and set up a special ritual for Leah’s birthday. It would be a celebration of her life and a spiritual rite of passage to her future. She had saged one of the rooms in the back of her store and laid out an altar in it. The altar sat upon a low black wooden table. The red silk cloth hung over the edges and upon it lay crystals, sage, moon water, and a scrying bowl. Amber was busy bringing in her grimoire when Leah arrived at the store. Excitement buzzed in the air. Amber had waited for this day for so many years and played out exactly what she wanted to happen a million times in her head. She had only one chance at this ritual and she wanted it to go on without a hitch. The store bell tinkled as Leah entered. The store was dimly lit by candles. Leah knew that no one else would be joining them so she turned and locked the door behind her, smiling when she took in the smell of Jasmine. Amber was busy laying the last items on the altar as Leah entered the room and ca

Emerald was angered by the actions of the Goddess. How dare she act in that way. Emerald had done all that she could to keep the twins apart and now the Goddess had foiled her plans by letting a vision of Leah come through to Abigail. How on earth was she supposed to keep a lid on the secret if the Goddess kept intervening? Emerald knew that Abigail was still shaken by what she saw. Abigail seemed withdrawn and perplexed. She’d spent most of the following day locked up in her bedroom which concerned Emerald as she had never seen her do that before. Abigail sat at her desk, still visibly upset about what she had seen in the scrying bowl. “Who could that have been?” Wondered Abigail aloud to herself. “She most definitely wasn’t me. I’m one hundred percent sure of that. She might have looked like me but there were subtle differences that showed me that she was a different person altogether.” Abigail had a sneaky suspicion that her mother wasn’t being completely honest with her. Was she

Abigail eventually came out of her bedroom, searching for her mother. She looked around the house but couldn’t find her. She knew that the only other place she could possibly be was in their greenhouse where they grew all of their herbs and spices. Abigail made her way out of the backdoor of their house and walked the few paces to their greenhouse. As she came closer she heard her mother whispering to someone. Abigail peeped into the greenhouse and saw that Emerald was on a phone call. Emerald was speaking to someone with a heated tone. “I need you to keep a close eye on her. There is no way that they could ever meet. It would be detrimental to both of them should that ever happen. They can never know of one another for there would be great ramifications should they ever join forces.” Emerald sensed that she was being watched and immediately hung up the phone call. Abigail hid around the corner of the greenhouse but she knew that it was futile for Emerald had amazing powers and w

It was not only a chance to better her skills but also a chance for them to spend extra time together. “Are you ready for the next training session?” Asked Caleb as he entered the store, excited to see Leah. “You bet your bottom dollar I am,” smiled Leah as she saw him walking towards her, “you know that I always look forward to our training sessions. Maybe this time I’ll get to kick your ass for a change.” They both laughed and Leah marveled at just how handsome Caleb really was. Amber had cleanly forgotten about the protection spell that she wanted to do on Leah and Caleb. She asked them to meet her at Silver Stardust after their next shift in order to perform it together. Both agreed and joined Amber in one of her workshop rooms. Once there they noticed that Amber had her altar all set up and her grimoire open to a certain page, the one holding the spell. Caleb was rather freaked out for he had never had a spell performed on him before. He trusted Amber but still had his reservations. “There is no need to be afraid,” mentioned Amber when she saw the look of dread on Caleb’s face, “this spell is perfectly safe. It is only for your protection.” Leah happily joined her mother, knowing that both she and Caleb could only benefit from the spell, especially with the stranger still on the loose. Amber asked them both to come closer and take their seats near the altar. Caleb slowly crept closer while Leah happily took her place next to her mother, and as soon as

Abigail sat at her desk, staring at the doodle of the two hands she’d drawn. Why did these hands have such an impact on her? She almost felt as if they belonged together. As if they were one. “Abigail, what are you up to,” yelled her mother from downstairs, “you’re supposed to be practicing your magic in the back garden.” Abigail gave an eye roll and knew immediately that her mother would sense it, not really caring if it pissed her off or not. “I know that you might not feel like practicing today but you need to keep your lessons up in order to become stronger and more comfortable with your elements. Listen to me and get down here immediately!” Abigail got up from her chair and placed her grimoire back on her altar. The image of the hands haunted her. Why did they seem so familiar and why did she feel that they belonged together? Making her way downstairs to the back garden, Abigail stopped by her mother’s office, still seeing that her phone book was open to Silver Stardust. Had

Leah sat eagerly awaiting Caleb’s return. He’d sent word that he was on his way back from the compound and would meet her at the store. Amber noticed Leah fidgeting at the main counter as she stared at the front door, nervous about Caleb’s return. “Caleb should be here any minute now,” said Amber who had gotten word from Seth that they’d left the compound almost an hour ago. “I’ve missed him so much. It’s crazy how you can get so used to someone always being by your side and when they’re away it feels as if you’ve lost a part of yourself.” Leah blushed as she realized what she’d just said. She hoped that her actions hadn’t given away her and Caleb’s secret too soon. “I’ve missed him too, to be honest. I’ve gotten used to seeing his mischievous face around at the store.” Amber smiled at Leah, seeing straight through her secret with Caleb for she had seen how close they’d become. How they looked at each other. Caleb burst into the store a few minutes later, making a straight line t

Darius stood leaning against the windowsill of Julian’s cabin. His lean physique was the envy of many pack members. “I hear that we have a new recruit,” said Darius as Julian leaned back in his creaking leather chair. “Yes, we do. Caleb seems to be fitting in nicely. He is keen to learn and that’s always a promising attribute of a new Omega.” Julian had been keeping a keen eye on Caleb and he noticed that Seth had taken him under his wing. “I see that Seth has taken a keen interest in the boy. May I ask why?” Darius had no clue of Caleb’s backstory and liked being in the know of all of the new recruits. “His father used to be an important part of our pack. I’m sure you remember Alex. His death still pains me to this day.” A look of sadness crossed Julian’s face as he spoke about Alex, one of his best friends and confidants. “The boy seems to have some good skills when it comes to fighting. I’m sure we’ll make a hunter out of him soon enough.” Darius had been keeping an eye on Cal

Silden silently watched Leah as she practiced her magic in the back garden from her perch in the tree of her own garden. Being neighbors had helped Silden keep an eye on Leah, something Leah was not always aware of for she was deep in thought while practicing her magic. Her attention focused and tuned into her elements alone, forgetting about the world around her. Protected in her own surroundings. Silden watched her intently, impressed by all that Leah had learned in such a short amount of time. Leah truly was a powerful witch and had come into her magic naturally, with no struggles at all. It was almost as if she had been doing magic most of her life. Leah took a break from her magic and sat down on the grass, soaking up the afternoon rays of sunlight, when she got the feeling of being watched again. Looking around, Leah found the Raven with orange-tipped wings. “Who are you and what do you want?” Asked Leah brazenly, fed up with being watched and afraid. No longer fearful of th

Caleb walked the short way to the store to meet Leah. He was meant to work a shift that day but needed to speak with Amber about him going back to the compound. The doorbell tinkled as he entered and Leah’s face lit up. She was always happier when Caleb was around her. He seemed to have a calming effect that she couldn’t quite place. “Hey, Cal,” greeted Leah as he made his way toward the counter at the back of the store. “Hi, Leah,” replied Caleb, a goofy grin on his face. He thought that things might be awkward between the two of them since their kiss, but nothing had changed. They’d in fact grown only closer, something which made his heart soar. “You’re late for your shift,” commented Leah, trying to act all stern but failing miserably as soon as she burst out into giggles. “That’s actually why I’m here. Is your Mom around? I need to speak with her.” Caleb fiddled with the tassels of his hoodie as he waited. “Mom! Caleb’s here to see you,” called Leah towards her mom’s office.
