Eve’s POV:

The next morning, Amy and I embarked on the journey to the pack house. The car ride was shrouded in an unusual silence, only broken by the rhythmic hum of the engine and the occasional crunch of candy.

"Are you nervous?" Amy's question punctuated the quiet, her hand dipping into a bag of M&M's.

When Amy got nervous, chocolate was her go-to remedy. I stole a glance and noted that this was her second packet of M&M's; the third one, I suspected, was discreetly stowed away in the glove compartment.

"A little, how about you?" I replied, my grip on the steering wheel tight, my knuckles turning white. Despite my efforts, I couldn't seem to relax.

"I have a feeling I could gobble up at least three more of those packets," she confessed, her candor providing a small measure of comfort.

My anxiety lingered, refusing to dissipate. I shook my head, attempting to shake off the tension that gripped me. It felt absurd; I was going home, so why was I so nervous?
