Where and when it all began...
Gustav's POV"Welcome, brothers, sisters, and warriors from around the world," the commentator announced from the blaring speakers in the large concentric stadium. "Today marks the fifth anniversary of the Crescent pack Indomitable Challenge. The king bids me welcome our brothers from the Grey Moon pack, who are joining us for the first time."A loud wave of cheer and applause followed the commentator's welcome address."As you all know, there are three challenges to the competition. The first to keep us in the mood is the flag-finding challenge. Seven teams consisting of four werewolves each will be competing to find four flags hidden in brown wooden boxes in the maze before them. The first four teams to find a flag and bring it to the tower at the end of the maze will qualify for the next round.Another round of hooting and cheering thronged the electrified spectators at the large stadium, rushing the blood in my veins. The Indomitable Challenge brought men from all walks of life to the stadium. It was that time of the year when the rich staked heavy amount of money on their favorite teams, fixing an eye on the scoreboard, and their hopes in their choice teams.Being the youngest member of Team Seven, it was normal of me to have a thumping pulse; going by what father had said. As the heir to the throne, it was only necessary of me to prove to the pack that I was worthy of the claim."But I must warn you warriors, there'll be booby traps scattered around the maze to claim your life, or dismember a limb. The crazy part is that finding the flag first doesn't give you automatic qualification to the next stage, until you bring it to the tower at the end of the maze. Expect attacks from other teams, if you have the flag.""I can do this. I can do this," I said to myself, breathing warm air into my palms, and rubbing them together. The deathly expression on the faces of fellow contenders from other teams constricted my lungs. This was going to be a hard one, but I was more determined to prove myself to father and my pack."Will the reigning champions, hold on to their championship this year? Or will their belt be taken away from them? I guess Team Two will want to hold on to the former than the latter, am I right?"A brisk confident burly man from Team Two with a brown eye patch covering his left eye raised his large muscular arms in the air. The spectators went agog, showering their admiration for him. Suddenly, his fierce gaze settled on mine, petrifying me to the spot. It was as though he suddenly found me interesting to engage in a staring contest. He looked like a man who could kill a dragon with his bare hands."Are you ready for an awesome experience?" A loud yes followed from the giddy spectators choked the air. "At the boom of the gun, find your flag, and save your team. May the Moon be in your favor."I stood poised, awaiting the sound of the gun, my heart skittering. I sighted father above me, sitting beside King Fredrick on a gold rimmed padded chair under a shaded platform prepared specially for dignitaries. He nodded once, placing a fist on his chest. I got the message immediately. "You can do it. I believe in you."I returned my attention to the tall maze with renewed energy, courtesy of father. Almost immediately, a loud boom from the referee's pistol rent the air, and every team charged into the maze. Sprinting into the maze with my team, we branched into various parts of the maze. The goal was to find the flag and bring it to the tower, and finding it separately was the best tactic we could think of. I followed my instincts, searching through every corner possible, but there was no sign of he flag.A piercing scream came from an angle in the maze. Something must have got someone, I thought, quickening my search. I sighted a box with a lid, and my hope soared. I ran to it, tearing it open. But on the contrary, a large cobra hissed out of the box, spreading its black shinny hood over me.I darted into a corner, running for my dear life. The snake trailed after me, aiming for my heels. As luck would run out on me, I veered into a dead end with no where to turn. The walls of the maze were sixteen feet tall- too tall for an adult, let alone an eighteen year-old. When the snake saw I was cornered, it lifted its body in full flare, slithering over me.Lunch to a famished cobra. What could possibly go wrong?Just when it was about to swallow me for good, a shiny sword was hurled through the air at me by God knows who. I leaped at it, avoiding the cobra's strike, and rolling on the floor with the sword in hand. Before the cobra could recoil to confront me, I decapitated it, splattering its blood around the wallI turned back to find who threw me the sword, but found none. Whoever he was, I owed him my life."Team Two has done it again. They've brought back the first flag." The commentator announced. The excited crowd cheered on, drumming and chanting their praise. With the sword in hand, I fereted the maze for a sliver of hope, sweating profusely. I heard another wail from the right wing of the maze, then another from the other side of the wall. I couldn't unhear the squelching sound of flesh that greeted my teenage ears. On entering a corner, I stepped on a tile which opened a slot on the wall beside me. A number of arrows darted out of the slot, but I was quick to slide under them unscathed."Congratulations to Team Five, they have found the second flag." The spectators cheered aloud, creating a Mexican wave.I don't need a witch to tell me father would be shifting on his seat by now. I got up, and found another box sitting beside a wall. My heart skipped a yard. The fear of finding what doesn't count for a flag tightened my chest. I took measured steps to the box, opening it with the end of the sword. A flag lay gracefully in the box.Overjoyed, I reached for it, holding it as though my life depended on it. To be frank, my life depended on it. Running through the maze with the corrugated roof of the tall tower ahead me, I could only imagine what if would feel like, submitting the flag to the collector, and getting a 'good job' nod from father. From my blind spot, an incoming kick swung at my head, hitting it roughly against the wall. A girl around my age bent over me, and yanked the flag out of my hand. "No hard feelings, love. It's a competition." Before I could regain my composure, she spirited away, leaving me with a throbbing ache to nurse. In a couple of minutes, the commentator announced the arrival of Team One at the tower.Fuck! Only a flag to go.Struggling to my feet, Blood, my wolf, patched me up, healing me of the ache. I searched through the maze, panting and afraid of failure."Team Seven has brought the last flag to the tower!" The commentator announced. I sank to the ground, my heart leaping for joy. For a while, I had forgotten I had team mates.I trudged out of the maze with the dried splotches of cobra blood on my face and clothe, and a sword in hand. I joined my team at the collection point. One of us was missing, reducing our number to three. The missing piece must have added to the list of casualties.Behind my team, I saw the girl who robbed me of my flag, laughing with her team members. Black hair, and a bold look on her heart-shaped face; she was daring for a girl in her teens. "You almost killed me there," I went to her, fuming with rage."Who did you think gave you the sword?" A cocky smirk tugged at the end of her lip. I was speechless, but still angry at her. "You should be grateful I didn't leave you for dead." She patted me on the shoulder, join her team members in their shitty chat."And now, the second round of the tournament is the Surrender Combat. Each team will chose a representative to fight in the murky muddy arena. The warrior who surrenders to his opponent will concede his victory to him.""The first match will be between Team Two and Team Five." The crowd cheered, while I closed my eyes in appreciation to the Moon. I knew the one-eyed man from Team Two would be representing his team, which was a sure win for the team. I was more than happy that my team wasn't paired with him. It'd have been a sure loss for us.The fight between both teams was quick. His opponent was no match for him, which gave him a hasty victory. He roared to the spectators, beating his chest like a conquering silverback. The happy spectators responded with a ringing cheer, chanting his name joyfully.I volunteered to fight for my team, when I saw the strange girl do the same for her team. I must settle the score with her once and for all.We got into the arena, rounding each other up with glowing eyes, and lengthened canines. "I'll be gentle on you, love. I don't want to break your hairy balls down there," she teased.I scoffed "It's never too late to surrender. I'm asking you as a gentleman with manners. Take the chance and return to your pack with a complete set of bones."I swung a punch at her, but she ducked, turning swiftly behind me. "You should be the one to surrender, because you strike like a girl. I expected more from you, Gustav Leo.I don't even know her name. How did she know mine? Her confidence irated me, and I was hell bent on teaching her a lesson she would never forget. I charged at her with multiple kicks targeted at her jaws and abdomen, but she skillfully blocked my strikes, guiding her face with an arm shield, and tapping down on my shin to protect her trunk"Why don't you fight me?" I snarled, exhaling deeply."You asked for it." She extended her claws, a sly smug lighting her face. She charged her claws at my face, but I shielded the strike with my arm. It was a diversion, because I didn't see the rising knee aimed at my upper abdomen. Her knee disjointed my midriff, which was followed by a sharp uppercut under my lower jaw. My body lost momentum, as I fell backward, crashing into the murky puddle. The crowd cheered on for her, and I felt humiliated. I struggled to my feet, spitting out blood. "That was impressive. I give it to you.""Thank you." She bowed. Before she straightened up, I seized the opportunity to land her a surprise attack. I leaped at her, rolling into the mud with her. "Gotcha!" I grinned, pinning her down with my hand on her windpipe, drenched in mud. "Surrender, and I'll show you mercy.""Why is your hand on my breast? You like what you feel? It's soft, right?" She waggled her eye brow, winking at me."What?! No!" I withdrew my hand from her throat in a haste, afraid of molesting her."Gotcha!" She punched me in the jaw, went under my arm, and smacked my face into the mud. I winced in pain, angry at myself for falling for her cheap trick. She rolled over my back, and curled my legs backward, straining my waist. I tapped and cursed, but the pain on my waist was unbearable."Say you surrender." She urged."Never!"She bent my legs backward, farther than they could go, till I heard something snap. The pain was too excruciating to bear, that I did what I feared to do. "I surrender! I surrender!" I screamed, slapping the murky water rapidly."Give it up for Team One." The commentator announced, and the crowd cheered along.I couldn't feel my waist again. I felt numb from my waist downward. "You cheating piece of shitty! What other lie and deceit are you capable of?!" I tore my gaze away from her, seething in anger. "I don't have the eye to look father in the face. My pack won't respect me anymore.""Stand up and get a hold on yourself." She helped me up, wounding my arm over her shoulder for support."This doesn't count for cheating your way through to victory. I'll never forget this." I swore to her, hobbling out of the arena."I'll do it again if I have the chance. Like I said, it's a competition. Everyone here will do anything to win."Suddenly, a loud shriek coming from the shaded space for dignitaries tore through the crowd. The queen of the Crescent pack dropped dead to the floor, with her son, Ludovic, crying over her.***Author's note: Hello beautiful reader, this story contains lots of cringy graphical contents ranging from bloodshed to torture and fiery sex. This is my first book, and I'll love to read your comments and reviews on it. Don't forget to gift a gem as a token of encouragement. XOXO : )Somewhere in the Dark Moon packIris' POV"Daddyyy!" I jolted awake, panting and sweating profusely in the cool of the well air-conditioned bedroom I slept. "Not again. Not again." I glanced at the small digital clock under the lampshade on the nightstand. "Exactly one a.m." I darted around my cozy room frightfully, as memories of the nightmare flashed into my mind, causing my chest to lump with apprehension. This was the the sixteenth time, in the sixteen years of my life that the same horrifying nightmare haunted every eve of my birthday.Everything seemed normal and quiet, except the occasional rhythm of chirping crickets in the yard, until a loud crashing sound came from the kitchen downstairs, which was immediately followed by a piercing scream from mother, and hurrying feet, tromping down the hallway."Mommy!" I hurled out of bed, pushing the duvet aside. Goosebumps appeared on my skin, as I gasped for air. It's happening just the way I'd dreamed it to be. Suddenly, the house
Present day...Iris'POVSeven years passed in quick succession. It was my twenty-third birthday with no one to celebrate it with me. I stood before the broken mirror in my room in the Alpha Payne's palace, surprisingly elated. I slept in what may pass for a wreckage. Beside the miniature bed at the edge of the wall, and an old slanted warbrobe propped against the wall, the room screamed empty. One would have thought living with the Alpha and his family would make me an adopted princess, but I love to burst that bubble. Somehow, it was rumored that I killed my parents and burned down the duplex to destroy the evidence. For years, I'd cry my eyes out, till there was no more to shed. However, today was a different day; and I was determined to be happy against all odds- parent killer or not. It was an alias I wore like a second robe in the pack. Even the newborn pups knew my story.I did a quick twirl before the mirror, and realised I had become more beautiful and appealing as a lady."My
Gustav's POV"Fuck me!" I cupped my damaged crotch to get a hold of myself. Who would have thought a wolfless girl could cause much damage?"How did I let my guard down in the first place?" I asked no one in particular."When you couldn't have enough of her over-the-top beauty." Blood, my wolf mocked. Over time, my wolf and I had argued to become knit as one. Yeah, we argued through everything to agree on almost nothing. At first, I hated him when I was an Omega. He was way out of control for me to tame. He was a beast, thronging for the metallic taste of warm rippling blood to quench his bloody thirst. With time, we learned to understand each other, striking a truce that worked. That, to a considerable extent too. We agreed the domineering of one by the other would not be allowed, and I can say it was one hell of a deal. "Shut up, Blood" I snarled, rising to my feet with one hand wrapped firmly around the door knob to support my weight, like a toddler learning the rubrics of walking
Iris' POVI ran as fast as my naked feet could carry me and my clutch bag. The cool wind brushed past my face, whistling distinct chords into my ears. Most, if not all of the glitters attached to my hair must have fallen out in my attempt to escape Gustav's mansion, but it didn't matter at the time.I was wrong. I thought I would be happy when I found my mate; someone I could rely on to be my buckler and shield. I thought we would love each other unhindered. I thought we would make cute pups together and live happily ever after like it happens in the movies. The wind seeped into my eyes, forcing the dams locked behind each socket to break lose. I let the stream cascade unashamedly. What's the point of wiping the tears away, when the hurt buried deep within my shredded heart still gapped open?My pace began to reduce when I was sure I was miles away from hell. The tall razor edged shrubs had marked the exposed part of my arms and either side of my neck, but I was less bothered about it,
Iris' POVLudovic stepped into the palour and strolled to the bar, claiming one of the padded bar stools beside me. His long brown wavy hair was wet from the heavy downpour, plastered around his neck. His light brown skinned seemed to add an extra glow from the sparse yellow lights hanging down from the old light bulbs in the relaxation palour."Amber." He grinned at Amber, pulling off his dark brown thicken coat to hang it on a coat tree at the edge of the counter to dry off."My baby boy." Amber cooed. She reached for his hair and shook off stubborn drops of water from it, sending splodges of water falling away. I wished I could give his hair the same gesture, but no, he's a total stranger, and I had no right to comb my hands through his hair lustfully. I tightened my hands around the glass of tequila on the counter in frustration. I thought I had seen the best of beauty when I met Gustav, but this stranger sitting beside me is the icing on the cake.He had a chiselled frame that co
Ludovic's POVAmber and a handful of men circled around us to salvage what was left of the sudden change of merriment. A mild quizzical look drooled over their faces as they mumbled indistinctly amongst themselves. The rest of them remained seated, poking and turning their necks to catch a glimpse of the situation. Her body was arched backward like a ball room dancer, with her hair falling straight behind her head. This was the perfect moment were the gentleman plants a gentle kiss on the lip of his lady, but she was in no state to return the kiss- a stolen kiss.God! She smells like breakfast, ready to be devoured without napkins.I bent on one knee to gather her petite body in my arms properly. I lifted her into my arms and stared into her face, examining her thin arched brows. Her hair covered a fraction of her face rested against my chest. The centrifugal urge to tuck her red hair behind her ears to behold the beauty they wield was too powerful to tame, but I had to tame them anywa
Ludovic's POV"Iris, you're dead drunk," I held her hands, and pushed her to the bed. If I knew what was best for her, letting her sleep is the best thing that would ever happen to her.She sat up on the bed and parted her legs sideways for my eyes to bleed from. With one hand, she pushed her breast upward to meet her tongue, licking the summit of her breasts like a fucking slut; while the second hand went beneath her thongs, stuffing herself full with two fingers. My arm muscles tensed in response, as I clenched my hands into fists. Seeing her working on herself like a fucking slut was all it took for my sleeping dragon to roar. It'd be impossible for me to hold back if I touched her, because I swear to God, I'd burn every ounce of passion in her to crisp."Am I?" She fell back on the bed and raised her legs, pulling the thongs from her waist up to her toes slowly. Odins and I salivated with primal ecstacy, not wanting her to stop teasing us. It looked so frigging good. She collected
Iris' POVI woke up with a start the following morning. The blazing sun eavesdropped into a room I had no faintest idea how I crashed into. I had had the most unusual dream. At first, I had thought I experienced the fantasy I saw. But it felt too vivid to discard them off my memories. Too true to be true. Too real to be real. For a moment, I had wished it was real.I had sex with Ludovic in the dream. His touch over me was everything I wanted in a man. The mundane pleasure I derived from his silky lips smothering mine to stupor was a scene I can trade anything in the world for. I raised a finger to touch my slightly parted lips that carved a smug smile at the remote corner of my lips. It was too soft and plump to belong to a man.Such an object of male seduction! The way he dominated me, the way he suckled on my breasts, the way he nestled his head between my wet thighs... Damn it! I wished I experienced all the pleasure first hand. The mere thought of it alone made my thighs cringe.
Monica's POVI never knew I could be this tense. My heart raced a marathon, standing beside Gustav, hands locked. We met the rest of the people outside as well. They'd been waiting for us to come out. Drogo had thrown us pieces of clothings the moment he saw us running out of the bunker. We'd brought with us few changes of garment as a contingency; only that we never foresaw the night wearing long and tragic as this. By now, the moon had reclined behind the clouds, bowing out of the podium for the sun to take its cue. The air was surprisingly chilly around me, and I welcomed the first day of the sun perching on my face in a canvass of yellow and orange. Gustav had ordered everyone to move three miles away from the area. Owing to the final battle between Iris and Laura, it was only expected of us that the bunker would collapse. It had taken on many hits already to keep it standing.Klein rushed forward to ask us about Ludovic and Iris. I was too sorry to tell him they couldn't make
Iris' POVIt felt like a very bad dream. My world shattered to tiny bits under me, caving beneath my feet. I couldn't breath, I couldn't talk; I just felt lost. Everything was happening so quickly that I forgot to breath in the bad air surrounding me. Ludovic turned to his side, resting his elbow on his hands. He cast his face the other way, spitting black blood on the dusty tile. His lengthy black hair fell over his head, covering his face from me. Placing one hand on the ground, he pushed himself to a kneeling position, backing me and groaning gravely. I saw the dagger hanging below his shoulder blade. He backed me. He didn't want me seeing him weak in the face of death. Monica and Gustav stood few inches away from us. Silently taking in the latest tragedy straddled between life and the afterlife. I heard Monica sniffle. Gustav held her close muttering few words of courage to her."I warned you all not to play hero, but you wouldn't listen. If you'd taken my offer, all this blood
Gustav's POV"Nooo!" Crude anger shot up my bones, setting me aflame. My wolf and I merged in an instance, lunging at Laura. She was too wrapped up in her warped cruel laughter that she didn't see me coming. I sank my teeth into her shoulder joint, pushing her away from Zelta. I left her in the care of Monica and Ludovic, while I took my pound of flesh from the psycho. I've always wanted to do this. Taking the back seat, I surrendered fully to my beast. Her time of retribution is now. Perhaps, she hadn't extended her tentacles to Monica, but the rest of us have suffered because of her. She'd taken too much from us. She poisoned Ludovic's mother's wine and killed Iris parents in cold blood. As if that was not enough, she made my mother's death the icing on the cake. For the sake of us, I'll gladly rip her limb from limb, and sever her head from her body."Zelta, Zelta!" Iris scooped her up, removing the dagger from her back. "You can't die now. Please, stay with us. We can't do this
Gustav's POV"We have to destroy that staff." Iris announced, rising into the air to meet Laura. "Are you sure about that?" Ludovic asked. "One hundred percent. It's her life force." She pointed at the top of the staff in Laura's hand. "I'll try my best to destroy the staff. She dies, and we get to live. The bonus part is that she takes her undying army with her to wherever they came from.""What if you're wrong about that?" Ludovic had his doubts. Destroying the staff won't come that easy. Scenarios like this always ended up in tears. There was a catch to it. I could sniff it. "It's too dangerous. Please, don't try anything stupid.""You're right. I may be wrong. But I'm certain about one thing. A witch's staff is her life force. Her life is connected to that staff. That's why she never parts with it.""Iris isn't wrong." I didn't know when Zelta regained consciousness. The hit she survived really did a number on her consciousness. She supported herself with her staff, wiping off a
Monica's POVLaura was having a field's day wearing us out. The dead never died, our strength was failing, our number depleting, and the walls are crumbling. Our greatest disadvantage was that Zelta had been knocked out. By the look of things, it would take longer for the old lady to shift out of the supernatural coma. The ball of black fire Laura hauled at her swept her off her feet, snuffing the last air of luck out of us.From a corner of the bloodbath, nursing my bloodied left hind limb, I morphed back to my human form, sprawled to a pillar, stained with blood. We're all going to die, that's for sure. Claws snapped at each other, and the squeals of men carried through the chipping walls, as more men lost their lives to Laura's madness.Ludovic and Gustav were no use to us than they are to themselves. The litres of silver swimming in Ludovic's bloodstream had left him hanging on the precipice of life. In he middle of the chaos and a bruised eye, Drogo was doing one hell of a job p
Iris' POV"Stay with me, Ms Iris," Klein wheezed, breezing past the blood and claws, out of the bunker. "Don't die on me, please. Hold on a little bit longer." I attempted speaking to assure him of my existence, but the words were too heavy for my dead cords to form. The poison had completed its cycle. Every blood vessel under my skin had turned purple. I was losing control of my limbs. To the humans, paralysis was the proper term to describe my present condition.I'd lost contact with my wolf. Her howls had reduced to a tiny purr. She shrunk herself to a corner, afraid for her and myself. The pinna of her ears had dropped to the ground, her tongue a deep shade of tundra purple. She dragged her weight about, fighting to stay alive for the both of us. Her healing virtue had gone below the threshold, hitting rock bottom. Throughout the period the devil's trumpet was introduced into my system, she'd pumped all of her juice into my body to keep me alive, hoping cavalry would come. Cava
Ludovic's POV"The bunker is going to implode on us!" I grumbled loudly, facing Iris with fear etched across my face. She met my gaze with an equal amount of fear, if not greater. "What are we going to do?!" I sheathed the tremor in my voice for the sake of my mate. As the male, I had to be stronger for her. I had to be tough for the both of us."We're all going to die, but it'll hurt me to die without telling you this." She looks at me with a calm smile. Tendrils of fear hung behind the false mask, but I paid it no heed. Her bold stance in the face of death was applaudable. She cleared her throat and continued, as Laura's chants faded in the background. "My life was hopeless before you stepped into it. Pain and suffering were my constant companion until you came by and kissed them all away. I know that when I open my eyes on the other side of the divide, you'll be right there by my side, never to part again. Thank you for making the last three weeks of my life the most memorable." Sh
Iris' POVThe slurp of the blade tearing into the organs beneath Gustav's rib cage mingled with his muffled grit of his clamped teeth. Laura was on a higher pedestal of evil. Needless to say, she was evil personified. "Stop hurting him!" Monica barked through tears, jerking violently under the straps. Her sweaty naked body faultered as Laura turned the metal blade, causing gruesome damage. Blood tricked out of the corner of Gustav's mouth. All through the torture, not a whimper fell out of his mouth. He tamped agony with resilience. I'll give that to him.Hot tears washed down Monica's face. Watching your mate being tortured before you was another level of torture. I could only imagine the tremor her wolf would be going through. Raw emotions whirled out of her, hitting me like a gust of hot wind on the hottest noon of Texas summer."Please." Monica sobbed, choosing to gravel instead. Perhaps, if Laura had a sliver of humanity in her, she'd stop her ministrations on her mate."Have yo
Monica's POVIris led a series of dry laboured cough. I didn't need a witch to tell me what the smug on her face meant. Ludovic on the other hand lay limp on the bed. The tiny drops of liquid silver flowing into his veins had his mouth set into a thin line. His face was pale. The green venation of his veins stood out conspicuously under his white skin. Iris was just as bad. Maybe worse. Her lips were chapped, the flesh peeling off. Her cheekshd become hollow, revealing the peak of her cheekbones. Her tangled her was splayed under her head in tired waves. Where the hell did she get the strength to snigger at us? Rage burned my face, as I scowled at her."Is this funny to you?" I blurted. "Keep laughing at your own death for all I care."She coughed before responding. "It's my death, I'm not complaining. I welcome it with open hands. Beside, I would die knowing my own people didn't turn against me." Her voice was almost inaudible, but there was no denying the melee retort in it.Her w
