HANDSOME STRANGER

Mr. James was so very happy that his wife Sarah gave him great kids, even though she died early.

He had been the only one taking care of them, and was pleased to take care of his girls.

Some of his friend's thinks it would be hard for him to take care of his kids and go fishing at the same time.

He told them that his kids were smart, and they could take good care of themselves before he comes back.

At first, he was still not sure if they could really stay on their own before he returned, specially when their mother had died with no one to be with them, but to his greatest surprise, they stayed together, and waited patiently for him to come home.

Mr. James really wished he could send his girls to the city to further their education, but he was just a poor fisherman who had nothing but money for daily expenses, he knows his girls also wished to go to the city, so they could live a better life, different from the one they are living now.

The next, Mr. James woke his two girls up.

“What is the matter, papa?” Karen asked, rubbing the little sleep away from her eyes with her right hand.

“Wake up girls, we will be going out today”

Karen shook, the yet sleeping Kayla, who only stretched her long legs, and curled herself into a better sleeping position on the little mat, the both of them scared.

“Let me sleep a little, please?” Kayla said making herself more comfortable on the mat.

James watched how uninterested his daughters were about going out with him. Good, he knew just how to take the sleep out of their eyes.

“Well if you are all going to sleep then I might as well just let you sleep and visit the city all alone by myself”.

Suddenly, Kayla, who had positioned herself for a better sleep, scurried off the floor together with Karen. They both stared at their father in surprise.

“We are really going to the city? “Should have told us earlier!”

Kayla and Karen said all at once, startling their father. He knew they would be awake, but he never knew they will become this agile.

Kayla rummaged through her things, looking for her best dress to put on. Karen chooses a white gown that dropped just a little above her knees.

“Kayla, we will be late!”

“I'm coming just a minute”

Kayla came shortly after with a red flowery dress with, she looked charming in the red dress that also a little above her knee and she held her hair in a ponytail, while Emma just left her curly brown to fall freely down her shoulders.

“We aren't going for a party, it's just a visit”. Karen said but her sister looking at her weirdly.

“Sure, I know it's just a visit, but it's not a bad idea to look like city people you know”

James could not help but chuckle at his two girls.

“We are not city people, I'm sure they will find out, even though we wear our finest of dresses." Karen replied.

Kayla didn't care what her sister said at all she knew was that she was very well-dressed for this trip.

They waited for the wooden boat that carries people to the other side of the shore to come pick them up.

While they were in the boat, they, held on to each other, for they were a little scared since it was their first time going to the city.

Their friends came bidding them a safe trip while the rest who didn't like them only gazed at them with jealous filled eyes.

“I'm sure Karen will make a fool of herself when she gets to the city”. The bullies said, bursting out in fits of laughter.

This made Karen feel so sad, this was the reason she feared gong to the city in the first place, maybe she should have stayed at home.

“You just wait, I will pull all your tongues out for saying that to my sister!” Kayla yelled angrily.

“Don't pay attention to what they said, Karen, they are just jealous that they are not the ones going out”.

“Your sister's right, Karen, don't pay them any mind.” Her father added.

Karen instantly felt relieved to hear her sister and father encourage her.

After about 40 minutes, the boat finally ducked at the shore leading to the city.

“Here we are now, girls” Their father 

said in excitement.

They all came down from the boat and headed down town, with their father, leading the way.

Karen could not help observing her environment. She watched as people riding bicycles passed by them.

They all saw cars driving past them, Karen opened her eyes wide in awe.

She had never seen a car or a bike before, they only heard about them from Mr. Damien and his wife Pamela, who taught them back at the highland.

Every so often Karen wondered why they couple decided to live in the highland when there's a big city they could have lived in comfortably.

“Wow, so this makes people walk faster, that's so cool” Kayla replied with excitement.

Their father took them to the market in the city, which left them I astonishment.

The market was filled with so much crowd of people who but and sell.

They bought some fruits and vegetables for themselves. 

Karen felt somewhat scared because she had never been in the midst of so many crowd before.

When they finally left the market, their father took them out to see the movies.

Karen and Kayla shot a quick glance at their father in surprise.

“Dad, tell us the truth will you, have you ever lived in the city before?” Kayla asked curiously, and so was Karen.

Their father chuckled at their curiously.

It was true that they had no idea how their father came about knowing so much in the city.

“You know I'm a fisherman, and we often come to the city to sell our goods, so there."

They both nodded their head at the satisfactory answer their father gave them.

While watching the movie, Kayla had been screaming loudly in the hall, this was because the movie shown was a scary movie called Elizabeth.

Karen shook her head at her sister, she had never thought that Kayla wasn't just afraid of little insects, but she was also afraid of horror movies.

Karen was yet again better than her in this field, she was hardly scared of the things that made others sacred which was very weird.

Before the movie was finally over, Kayla had cried her eyes out, which made everyone in the cinema hall laugh at her.

“Will you stop crying now, look how you are being laughed at?” Her father said, still chuckling at her.

When Kayla saw that her father was right about everyone staring at her, she immediately hid behind her sister, shyly.

“Beautiful daughters you have, they are so cute!” said a lady who saw the movie with her three kids too.

Mr. James smiled brightly at the lady for her compliment over his daughters.

The lady's kids seemed to be staring at Karen and her sister weirdly, which made them uncomfortable.

“Mom, don't you think it's such a shame that a big kid cried at the movie when little kids didn't cry.”

The youngest among the woman's children said, which made Kayla and Karen gasp in shock.

“Oh my God, I'm so sorry, Jay, will you stop saying that”? The Lady left with her children in a hurry.

Mr. James took a gazed at his kids, who still seemed to be taken aback.

“Did that little imp just call me a big kid!?” Kayla asked with her eyes wide open in shock.

Karen and their father just shrugged their shoulders at Kayla.

Karen could tell that Kayla was fuming with anger, seeing how her chest rises and falls with a death glare forwarded to the woman and her kids who were almost at the exit door.

“C'mon, Kayla, you can't possibly be getting mad at a little kid?”

“Of course I'm angry, he just called me a big kid!”. Karen rolled her eyes at her sister, who's trying to be dramatic.

Mr. James chuckled heartily at his kids, it wasn't a bad idea taking his daughters out, he thought.

While they were on their way back, Karen saw a beautiful car driving towards a tall building close to the cinema hall, just then the car window rolled down and Karen immediately froze. She saw a man inside who looked so strikingly handsome.

He was on dark shades his facial skin was so white and beautiful, suddenly he pulled off the glasses to expose a beautiful pair of sea blue eyes.

Karen gasped at how handsome the man looked.

She had never in her life seen someone who was this handsome.

“Karen, hurry!” Kayla called out to her. Just then she realized she stood on a particular watching the handsome man.

Immediately she ran quickly to catch up with her father and sister
