A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND

Kayla and Karen are identical twins born to a fisherman. They all lived in a small fishing village in the southern region of Norian.

They lost their mother to a blood cancer when they were just 3 years old.

Ever since their mother died, their dad had been the only one taking care of them.

Living close to the seashore had its benefit. For one, the villagers are all a united family.

When the men row their boat to the sea for fishing, the women help sew the nets and make the traps to which they go fishing with.

The wives also take care of their home as they await their husbands.

The twin played the role of a wife to their father, by fixing his nets and also joining the rest of the women in making fishing traps.

When the men come home from the sea, they share the fish they caught among those who went fishing together.

At the end of the day, they all go home with their share.

But If they decide to sell the fishes, they pick trusted members among them, who will then travel to the upland and supply the fishes to those who needed them for food, or retailing.

After the fishes are sold, the money is then shared among those who went fishing together.

Sometimes, buyers come from the city to get the fishes from fishermen personally.

This was how the villagers in Norian island survived.

Kayla and Karen liked their simple life on the island. Some of the educated villagers make lessons for the kids, so they could read and write, even though they can't afford to further their education in the big cities.

The twins happen to be part of those kids who could not further their education since they were destitute.

Kayla, the eldest, happens to be the outspoken among the two girls.

They are known as the beauties of the island, since they had fair skin, long dark curly hair and blue eyes.

They were both identical, but they also have distinct characters that distinguished them, which was that one was more feisty than the other.

The feisty one was Kayla, and she is also the eldest among them, why the quiet one was Karen.

Furthermore, Kayla's skin was without blemish, why Karen has a birthmark at her back.

Not everyone knew about this apart from their father James Cameron. The two sisters loved each other very much because right from when they were little, their mom and dad always taught them to look out for each other, and always be on the go to help each other when the need arises.

Since Karen was the quiet one, she was the one susceptible to bully, and in this case, Karen was the one who always defended her.

Kayla is somewhat stubborn and always involved in fights, so whenever she come home injured, it was Karen who always tended to her wounds.

Their bond grew stronger just as they were approaching adulthood.

Their father was always praised for having such beautiful twins that her well-mannered as well.

Even though Kayla was feisty, and a little stubborn, it turns out that she never bully anyone, rather she helps the weak and fought against the bullies.

She those not start at the face of injustice, and for that reason, her stubbornness was justified.

“Hey Karen, what would you like to so when you are eighteen?”

Kayla asked, sitting close to her sister as they watched the waves of the sea roaring with every passing seconds.

They were waiting for their father, who had gone fishing with the neighbors.

Karen seemed to be thinking about what Kayla said.

“I just want to be with Papa, so even if I'm eighteen, I would still want to be with papa”.

Kyla rolled her eyes at the lame answer her sister gave.

“We are already seventeen Karen, you can't possibly be with Papa forever”. 

Karen shot a glance at her sister, speechless, she had never thought of living her life without her father, so what Kayla was saying seemed pretty strange to her.

“Why can't we be with papa?, we are on the island and this is our home”.

“I know it's our home, but don't you want to leave the island one day, and see what's beyond it?, don't you wish to visit the city, and what it's all about?”. 

Kayla said smiling, as though she was already seeing herself beyond the shores of their village.

Karen was also curious about what the world outside the village was like, but she does not have the courage of wanting to leave the village.

She wasn't that confident as her sister, no matter how curious to know about the outside world, the truth was that she feared facing the outside world due to her timidity.

Her bullies always made it obvious that someone like her could never live in the big city for her timid nature.

Some kids had relatives who lived in the cities, so they always had the opportunity to visit the big cities.

This fact also made Karen feel discouraged of ever going to the city.

She wasn't like her sister Kayla who was not afraid of taking risks, sometimes she wished she has half of her sister's wits, that way she could also defend herself from her bullies and also help her sister in fighting them.

She was pleased that God gave her a sister like Kayla. They were the only twins the island, had ever had, and so they were treated special.

Just then, Peter approached them.

“Hey Karen?”. He said, sitting down beside her.

Kayla glared at him, for sitting close to her sister.

“Why are you sitting close to her, get away from my sister!” Kayla yelled.

Peter immediately stood up out of freight, but he wasn't a coward like the rest, though.

“Stop acting like a thug, Kayla, try behaving like the lady you are for once, will you?”.

Peter's statement seemed to have pissed Kayla off to a great length.

“Did you just call me a thug!”. She yelled, and Peter immediately took for his heels, with Kayla behind him.

Karen just watched them as she shook her head.

Sometimes, she wondered why Peter and Kayla didn't become best friends because they had so many things in common.

Karen chuckled watching them run after each other like little kids.

Peter had always been a friend of Karen, but he never came to an agreement with Kayla, just for the fact that he looked at her like the village greatest bully.

Whenever he saw her beating up guys, he was frightened.

Occasionally, he would advise Karen to never act like her sister because he thinks she was going to scare all her suitors away with her aggressive nature, and this was the same reason why Kayla didn't want to see him come close to her.

She thought Peter was a bad influence to her sister because she thought he was always speaking bad of her to her sister.

Actually for Karen, nobody can make her think less about her sister, she knew Kayla's strength and weaknesses that people didn't know about.

Kayla acted all tough, but she was always scared of little creeping insects, like spiders.

Karen was stronger in this aspect, when she wanted to scare Karen, all she had to do was put a spider in front if her and Karen will scream like crazy out of freight.

Karen made sure no one knew anything about her sister's fear of those insects because if outsiders knew, specially the bullies, for they would automatically make her the weakest.

Karen cannot let her sister loose face in the village, even though she can't fight for her sister, at least. She could keep the secret about her sister's fear of insects well hidden.

Karen gazed at the sea, and to her great excitement, she saw her father and the others coming back home from fishing.

“Kayla, papa is back!”. She called out to her sister in excitement.

Kayla immediately stopped chasing after Peter and ran towards the beach to welcome her father.

They could see how happy their father was too in seeing them, he smiled and waved at them with so much excitement.

When they got closer to the shore, Kayla and Karen, together with the other kids, all ran to the waterside to help pull the boat to shore.

“Be careful, Kayla, Karen” Their father said with so much care.

“Welcome Papa." they both greeted in unison  waiting for him to get down from the boat.

Mr. Ja was a handsome tall man with tanned skin and a little white hair at the corner of his original short black hair. 

Though he had aged a little, but his muscles were still very much visible.
