Lyra (Mia)’s POV
The house was bustling with activity by the time I was done getting ready. The Servants moved around , ensuring everything was spotless, while my so-called parents barked orders left and right. There was an obvious tension in the air, and it was all because of him.
Damion Byers.
That name alone sent chills down my spine. The Alpha King of the Bloodhound Pack wasn’t just feared—he was legendary for his ruthlessness. Stories of his conquests and the blood he spilled were whispered in every corner of the werewolf realm. And now, he was coming here.
To marry me.
I stood in front of the mirror, dressed in a soft blue gown that clung to my frame showing the shape of my body and the front which was revealing a bit of my cleavage.
My silver hair was styled up, and a hint of rouge brought color to my pale cheeks. I looked nothing like the Lyra who had once been rejected and cast aside.
But as much as I tried to brace myself, my hands trembled. I wasn't ready to meet him—or anyone, for that matter.
A knock at the door jolted me out of my thoughts.
“Mia” Maria called softly. “He’s here.”
My stomach dropped as her heard those words.
“Alright, I’ll be down soon,” I replied, my voice surprisingly steady.
As soon as I stepped into the hall, I was met with the scent of power and dominance. It was unlike anything I’d ever encountered before. The room seemed to shrink around the man who stood at its center— Damion Byers.
He was tall, with broad shoulders and a commanding presence that demanded attention. His dark hair was slicked backwards, and his piercing amber eyes swept the room with such intensity that no one was left untouched.
My father approached him with a bow, his earlier harshness toward me replaced with obsequiousness. “Alpha Byers, welcome to our home. It’s an honor to have you.”
Damion’s attention moved to my father, and for a moment,he said nothing for a moment. The silence was overwhelming.
“Let’s get started with it.” he replied with a voice as sharp as a blade.
Beta Simmons nodded quickly and gestured toward me. “This is my daughter, Mia.”
Damion's eyes were fixed on me, and the weight of his attention was so suffocating. I forced myself to meet his stare, my heart pounding against my chest.
He took a step closer, his movements deliberate and predatory. When he finally stopped in front of me, I tilted my chin upward, refusing to cower.
“Mia…..,” he said, his voice low and cold.
“Yes,” I replied, my voice firm despite the fear coursing through me.
He studied me for a moment, his amber eyes narrowing slightly. Then, without warning, he leaned in, his breath warm against my ear.
“Nice to meet you.” he murmured, his tone void of emotion.
The room swirled, but I held my ground. This wasn’t about love or affection. It was a business transaction, and I was the currency used in the transaction.
As he straightened, he turned to my father. “May we begin the discussion now.”
Beta Sinclair nodded eagerly. “Of course, Alpha.”
Before he could lead Damion away, the Alpha’s hand shot out, gripping my wrist. “Before that,She has to come with me, we need to talk.”
My father’s face fell for a split second before he recovered. “As you wish.”
Damion didn’t wait for a response. He pulled me along, his grip firm but not painful, until we were in a private sitting room. He closed the door behind us and turned to face me.
“You look terrified,” he said, leaning casually against the wall.
I crossed my arms, masking my fear with defiance. “Who Wouldn’t be?”
His lips twitched, but it wasn’t quite a smile. “Fair point.”
“What do you want from me?” I demanded, my voice sharper than intended.
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by my boldness. “I thought that was obvious. This is a contract marriage, nothing more.”
“And why me?”
He stepped closer, his towering frame casting a shadow over me. “Your father has something I need and he wants something from me in return.
“So I’m just a pawn,” I said bitterly.
His gaze softened slightly, though his tone remained cold. “We’re all pawns in someone else’s game and you just have to be my pawn just for two years Mia.”You’d do well to remember that.”
I swallowed hard, trying to process his words. “And after two years?”
“You’re free to go,” he said simply.
I hesitated, the weight of his proposition settling over me. This could be my chance—a way to rebuild, to plot my revenge against Nyla and Xander.
“Fine,” I said, lifting my chin. “I’ll do it.”
Dante’s eyes flickered with approval. “Good, you have no choice or say in this anyways”
But as he turned to leave, his parting words left me frozen.
“Just remember, Jane. Betray me, and I’ll make you wish you hadn’t survived that suicide attempt.”
The door clicked shut behind him, and I released a shaky breath.
The game had begun.
And I intended to win at all costs.
***********
The grand hall of the Bloodhound Pack’s estate was packed with members of the pack, their eyes fixed on Damion and me as we stood side by side at the altar.
The moment the vows were exchanged, and the cheers echoed through the hall, my new reality hit me like a ton of bricks. I wasn’t Lyla anymore. I wasn’t even Mia.
I am the new Luna Queen of Bloodhound pack.
The wedding was a blur of rituals, vows and forced smiles.
After the ceremony, Damion led me to the far end of the room, where several high-ranking pack members gathered in a semi-circle. Their attention snapped to us the moment we approached, their expressions carefully neutral, though I could feel the tension rolling off them.
“Mia, meet my inner circle,” Damion said, his voice devoid of emotion.
“This is my lovely mother,” Damion said curtly. “Luna Byers.”
“Former Luna,” she corrected, her tone sharp.
The woman who stepped forward was regal and commanding, her presence instantly overshadowing everyone else.
Her neutral brunette hair, styled in an elegant chignon, gleamed under the chandelier’s light. She wore a dark gown that accentuated her sharp features, and her amber eyes—so much like Dante’s—glanced through me with an intensity that made my breath hitch.
“Congratulations on your marriage,Mia Sinclair. “ Your father must be so proud of you.” she said, her voice calm but icy. Her lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
I stiffened at the obvious sarcasm. “It’s an honor to meet you,” I said, keeping my voice steady, holding out my hand instinctively.
She looked at my hand as if it were a foreign object before clasping her own behind her back. “You’re… younger than I expected,” she said, Her words carried a tiny touch of disgust.
“Thank you, Luna Byers,” I said, quickly dropping my hand to my side.
Her smile faltered slightly. “Former Luna,” she corrected again. “The honor is all yours, I suppose.”
A slight chill prickled my skin as her gaze swept over me, taking in every detail—from the modestly embroidered gown to the awkward way I moved my body.
“My son has always been practical about his choices,so I can only assume this arrangement should serve a good purpose,” she said, her tone edged with condescension. “Though I admit I’m struggling to see what you bring to the table.”
“Mother,” Damion interjected, his tone sharp but calm. “This is neither the time nor place for this.”
She ignored him, her eyes never leaving mine. “Do you know what it means to be Luna, Mia? Do you truly understand what will be expected of you?” Just know this—you may wear the title, but you’ll never be worthy of it.”
I straightened my back, summoning every ounce of resolve I had. “I understand that I’ll need to earn your respect,” I said, my voice steady despite the anxiety building in my chest. “And I intend to do so.”
Her expression didn’t waver, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes—amusement, perhaps, or maybe disbelief.
“We’ll see,” she said, stepping back slightly. Then, turning to Damion, she added, “You’ve made your decision. I only hope it doesn’t cost you more than you’re willing to pay.”
“She will do just fine mom, she can learn from you.” Damion said quietly, though his tone suggested he didn’t entirely believe it himself.
With that, she walked away from us, her presence leaving a void in the room.
I glanced up at him, the weight of his words sinking in. If his mother didn’t accept me, my place in this pack—and by Damion’s side, would be even more precarious than it already was.
For now, I had to play my part perfectly. There was no room for mistakes. Not with eyes like hers watching my every move.
********
Later that night, as the festivities died down, I wandered through the dimly lit halls of the Bloodhound estate, hoping to clear my mind. The day had been overwhelming, and the weight of my new reality pressed heavily on my shoulders.
As I approached the study, muffled voices stopped me in my tracks. Recognizing Damion’s low, commanding tone and his mother’s sharp, biting words, I hesitated.
“She’s weak,” Luna Byers hissed, her voice carrying through the partially open door. “You’ve brought a traitor’s daughter into this house, Damion. Her bloodline is poison, Don’t you see it?”
Damion ’s reply was calm, almost dismissive. “You think I don’t know who her father is? And What he has done to this family? This isn’t about the past, Mother—it’s about strategy.”
“Strategy?” she snapped, her voice rising. “Her father’s betrayal cost us your father’s life! Do you think I’ll stand by and watch his daughter waltz in here as if that blood isn’t on her hands too?”
A tense silence followed her words, the weight of them hanging thick in the air.
“I know what happened to Father,” Damion said, his tone icy. “But blaming her for her father’s actions is crazy. Mia is nothing more than a pawn in this game, a means to an end. Her presence ensures her father’s cooperation, and that’s all that matters.”
Luna Byers let out a harsh laugh. “You think you can control her? That she won’t bring ruin to everything your father built? You’re blind, Damion. She carries the same blood as the man who betrayed your father. She’ll destroy you if you let her.”
“She won’t have the chance,” Damion replied coldly. “She dare not try to because if she does, I’ll make sure I destroy her and her entire family.”
My breath caught in my throat as the words struck me like a blow. I took a step back, my heart racing.
“You’re playing a dangerous game,” his mother warned. “One your father would never have approved of.”
Damion’s voice hardened. “Father is dead because he let his guard down. I won’t make the same mistake.”
Unable to listen any longer, I slipped away, the sound of their voices fading behind me.
My blood ran cold, and the reality of my situation crashed over me like a tidal wave. The game had begun, and I wasn’t just a player—I was the sacrifice.
Now I have more problems to face than getting my revenge as Lyra, I have to face Mia’s family’s problems I knew nothing about too.
One misstep, and it wouldn’t just be my life on the line—it would be my soul.
Lyra(Mia's) POV“What are you doing here?” Damion's cold voice sounded behind me.Thinking about what you and your mother were discussing was the answer. Reality was checking in with me and I desperately craved an explanation for the mess I was in.“I was just going for a bathroom break. I lost my way and was waiting until someone came by.”I was standing at the edge of the hallway , not quite long away from the room in which I overheard him discussing a matter that troubled my mind.“Come with me. I'll show you where you'll be spending your days.”He marched forward silently beckoning me to follow. I obliged but at a safe pace. His words still brought me terror.I smiled. Surely he was taking me to a grand room.Beneath the strings that were beginning to get attached, the title of Luna was a prestigious one. I felt honoured and couldn't wait to experience the good perks that came with it.Living with Damion's scared me. The man hadn't muttered a word to me and I knew better than to s
Lyra (Mia) POV“You can’t treat me like this. I am the Luna of this pack,” I tried to defend the little dignity I had left.“Are you still talking? Do you want to find out what happens to people who test my patience?”This was the same man who had been sweet to me initially. Which abyss had that caring individual been pushed into?I looked at him, and for a brief moment, something other than rage flashed in his eyes. Just kidding. That was my mind giving me a fantasy to console my cheeks, which throbbed with pain. The last time I had seen so much rage on someone’s face was when Xander had walked in on me with another man. That traitor!Damion’s eyes were even more reddened. It felt like another slap was lined up, so I moved back for my safety. Another one of those would surely cripple me.Don’t get me wrong—I had heard the tales about the great Alpha Damion! How he was fearless in the face of danger and how he slayed anyone who so much as breathed wrong in his path. But I hadn’t met t
Lyra(Mia) POVSleep eluded me at night. How could I catch any slumber with my stomach growling in protest? Damion had kept his word and hadn't invited me for dinner. I had barely been allowed to leave my room… it's a prison… all evening. This morning I still hadn't heard from him or anyone for that matter. The door was locked from outside and a guard had been stationed to make sure I didn't try anything. Did I try talking to the guard? Yes. I had tried every trick in the book to convince him to open the door. But he was as hard as a rock. He barely answered me. I'm sure even if he had the intention to help me, the fear of Alpha Damion's punishment would not let him. I could barely raise myself from the bed. I was too tired to move myself. What was the use of getting up? There was no life waiting for me. It's not like I was going to get up and head out to fulfill my Luna duties. I was just an item to be used at will. A knock on the door startled me. “Come in.” The guard peeked
Lyra(Mia) POVMy words seized in my throat as I came face to face with the person I had bumped into. I had expected for it to be a guest that was probably been distracted. “Nyla?” I muttered under my breath in confusion. I wasn't expecting to see her there or anywhere soon for that matter. My nemesis couldn't be standing in front of me right now. Someone tell me that I wasn't staring into the same face that I had been haunting my dreams. My eyes must be playing tricks on me. “Can you watch where you are going?” I asked when I saw her raise her eyebrows. I'm sure she didn't expect me to know her. “I'm sorry I was in a rush. Are you okay?” I gave a simple nod, studying her. Those were those dark eyes all over again. But this time it didn't look back at me with disgust. Its gaze was that of admiration, of respect. Her lips wore a bright smile proudly. She was draped in a pretty dress, her pose filled with poise. Standing before me was my twin sister Nyla. I had thought when she s
Mia’s POV “Where the hell have you been? I have been looking all over for you?” Damion barked, not acknowledging that I had guests. He didn't have to. The two of them were already either overwhelmed or afraid to speak. That was not unexpected considering the kind of man he was. “I have been here, My Alpha. I tried talking to you earlier but you've been pushing me away,” I answered keeping my tone low. “You think you're powerful enough to hang around the kind of people I walk with?” “If you let me into your circle, you can find out that I'm smarter than you think I am.” “Yeah? And what else am I going to find out? That you're a traitor who was waiting all this while to stab me in the back?” “Please lower your voice,” I begged. Everyone had turned their attention to me. “Is this how you're supposed to treat your wife?” He scoffed. “You expect me to show you love?” He grabbed my arm and pulled me close. His grip on my hand was right. “You're hurting me. Please stop.” “Get this
Lyra(Mia’s)povBy the time I rushed back into the room, I couldn't find him. After about two careful scans of the room I finally found home disappearing down a hallway. I raced after him trying not to bump into anyone on the way. .I could still recall the last time I had stumbled on Xander. He didn't have any business affiliations. All I knew him to be was the alpha, not a businessman. Or maybe that was one of the things that he had kept from me while we were together as well as his relationship with my sister. I slipped through the crowd and into the hallway. The guard at the mouth of the door had to stop me and confirm my identity. “I'm am the Luna!” I said with pride. “Sorry for stopping you, your highness. But you have to understand that only royalty is allowed to go through here.” I spotted a room at the end of the door. “What's down there?” “It's Alpha Damion's chambers. Only those summoned by the Alpha are allowed to pass.”I had to think of a lie, fast. “Well, I have b
Xander's POV That pompous asshole! How dare he make such an ambitious move on my pack? I ought to have thrown his men out of my pack as soon as I got the chance. I blame myself for this humiliation. I was a fool for trying to play the peace card but that wasn't going to get me anywhere. It was time to put on my big boy pants and play the game he was calling me to play. I was going to stop begging and take matters in my own hand. I walked out of the meeting room sulking and plotting. If he wasn't going to leave peacefully, maybe it was time I played dirty like him. I didn't expect the figure I met as I walked out of the room. It was Luna Mia, the woman that had taken up space in my head beside the matter with Damion.I stopped in my tracks. “Luna Mia, here to see Damion?” Her eyes traveled between me and the room that I had just stepped out from before finally settling on me. “I was waiting for you,” she said calmly. “There is something I need to speak with you about.” My firs
Lyra(Mia's)POV I knew Xander was going to cave into my offer. The flirty gaze I shot him just ensures that I achieved my goal. Convincing Alpha Damion was the main battle. This arrangement wasn't going to work if I was locked up in the palace all through the day. This wouldn't be easy. Their interaction earlier where I had refused to respond after I had been summoned had made sure of that. But I couldn't let him boss me around whenever he wished after he had just made a fool of me in the presence of everyone in the town hall. Like a prodigal daughter, I returned to the chambers. The guard must have been signalled for my return. He just nodded as I walked through. I could hear the voices coming from the room and I was still a couple of feet away from the door. One I could make out to be feminine and the other I had made out to be Damion. No one else I had seen had that harsh tone in his arsenal. His voice was able to make anyone tremble like it did to me. I refused to knock. Th
Damion's POV You’d think I would be the last man on earth to take responsibility for what happened. You’d think that even after finding out all that had happened from Logan, I would let my pride win—that I would tell her off as usual. But I couldn't. Logan had told me everything. There was no confusion about what happened. It was hard to explain, just like the moment when I had felt her call out to me. But I had heard her. It was loud and clear. It was like a calming touch. Her voice was the string that was pulling me to the surface. It was the shield that came to my aid, keeping the beast away. I waited for her to say something, but shock had taken hold of her. She was gone. "Everyone, clear the room!" I commanded. No one dared to linger a second longer before storming out. "I know what happened. I owe my life to you, and I’m not going to act like that doesn’t count for something." "You’re sorry for what exactly?" "For pushing you away, for annoying you in anger
Lyra(Mia’s)POVI sat in the dark car that had brought me here. The only difference was that Logan was driving, and I was with the man responsible for everything that was going on—Xander. Logan couldn’t stop taking shots at him. “Oh, you are so dead, Mr. Smart.” “Let me get this straight. So after you had declared that you had nothing to do with Xander, you are spotted with him. Do you lie for a living, or are you just trying to piss off Damion?” “You can’t ask me any questions.” After all, he had been there when everything was falling apart. He could have stepped up to rescue me. “Just take us to the damn palace.” He did me a favor and kept mute until we got to the palace. Damion was still in his silk bed, but he looked a lot more worn than when I had last left him. I stood in front of Damion, counting my toes. Xander stood beside me. It was a strange mystery how he still handled it all with confidence. Either Damion was feeling merciful, or he was feeding off the fact that he
Lyra(Mia’s)POV I can't believe it. I had put so much effort into making sure that he was in good health. I never would have expected that he would play down all of my sacrifices. I was pissed, to say the least. The anger was boiling up, but that didn't take away the fact that I was still thinking about how he was feeling. So much for caring about him. The hospital had gotten toxic for me. I could understand his mother being ungrateful, but I expected more from him. Selling me out like that should have never been an option. I didn't care about the injury on me anymore. Instead of returning to my hotel room, I slipped on a hoodie and headed out of the hospital. I had just made it out of the hospital when I saw a car standing close to the hospital gate. I immediately recognized it as Xander's. It couldn’t have been him… The windows were down, and my biggest fears were confirmed. He stepped out of the car and began walking toward me. “How the hell did you get in here?” I asked, b
Damion’s POV “Good riddance to bad rubbish!” my mother fumed under her breath as Mia closed the door. She was spiteful. But something about the whole thing made me feel like what just happened was the wrong decision. “But Mother, what you did was too harsh.” “Come off it, Damion . I don't know if that evil woman attempted to use some kind of spell on you while you were asleep. Don't forget she is not looking out for your good.” That didn’t sound right, even to a heartless man like me. If she didn’t care one bit, she wouldn’t have come to watch over me despite her injuries. It was absurd to see that she would put herself in such a position. Logan walked closer after I turned to him. I noticed that beneath the usual excitement he appeared to have, he hesitated, visibly troubled. “Leave!” he instructed the nurse before turning to me after she had left. “What is it?” “Tell me all about what happened.” “You transformed,” Logan began. But my mother wouldn’t let him finish. “Don’
Damion’s POV Every part of my body was hurting. My legs felt like they were about to split in half anytime soon. Even the slightest movement was sending signals that shot through my nerves, making even breathing a struggle. I could hear a steady beeping sound in the background and the chatter of people. They didn't sound near, but their jumbled discussions were not clear enough. The light hit hard as I slowly lifted my eyelids. It took a couple of seconds and blinks to finally acclimate to the intrusion of light. "Where am I?" I managed to mutter. The answer was before me. All I could see was white—sheets and emptiness. There was no one in sight as far as my eyes could stretch. Sitting up would have given me a better chance to see the room, but my arms felt like a thousand grams were pressing down on them. I decided to lift a finger, but a sharp pain immediately repelled me. The thick smell of antiseptic whipped my nostrils, leading me to let out a sharp sniff. My eyes took i
Lyra(Mia’s)POVThat was loud enough to wake up anyone who was asleep—that is, if there was a slim chance that anyone would fall into slumber despite the chaos going on. I shut my ears and jumped back as the noise left his lips. My first thought—that he was about to attack—had been debunked, so I moved closer, lifting his hairy face to meet mine. Damion blinked. And for the briefest moment, his red eyes flickered back to gray. My heart leaped in hope that he was coming back. But then a loud horn sounded. I looked back sharply to see Logan at the back end of the loud horn. It was his signal to let me know he was on standby. “No, wait. Don’t fire. He is back to normal,” I yelled out in plea. But my voice fell on deaf ears. “Fire!” he commanded. Immediately, the little darts poked out of the guns and were headed right at us. I heard the grunts but quickly focused on the darts as they blew through the air. They came in from all directions mercilessly. “No,” I screamed as I watched t
Lyra(Mia’s)POVI should have fled. At that moment, I regretted everything that led me up to this moment. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have made sure to run away as fast as I could. Just looking at those eyes was enough to chase away any atom of conviction I had managed to muster. But there was no turning back—his eyes were locked onto mine. If I made any attempt to move, I would be the best target. “Please, Damion. You need to stop with this madness. You are hurting people. You need to stop.” I made sure to yell at the top of my lungs. But I was even more sure that my message didn't get to him. If anything, it bounced off as soon as it hit his ears. He kept charging forward. The ground chimed as he kept taking heavy steps closer. All he did was inhale as he walked closer. I wasn’t just calling out to him—I had a plan. And it was a great one if he would stick to me. I was hoping to ensure I stuck this blade into his chest. “Damion!” I screamed. “You don’t want
Lyra(Mia's)POVPeople were getting lesser and lesser by the minute. They had a choice. It was either they are wound up in a pile on the ground at Damion’s feet, or they were fleeing for their loved ones. You wouldn’t wanted to end up on the latter list, but it was hard to get that line of luck when an obvious beast like Damion was on the loose. Fewer people meant that soon enough, I would have his attention on me. “Oh great, you are here,” I heard someone say behind me. I turned to see Damion's mother. She was accompanied by Logan, who looked devastated, to say the least. But that didn’t catch my eye as sharply as the fact that they were both empty-handed. “Did you not get the wolfsbane?” I asked. “Are you blind? Do you see any on me?” His mother barked as she kept her voice low. She didn’t want to be heard by her son. Logan jumped in for the rescue. “There is too much crowd. Everyone is more concerned about getting to safety rather than looking for wolfsbane.” “Maybe if she di
Lyra(Mia’s)POV The hallway was a mess. Shrieks welcomed me as people were taking to their heels in all directions. I had to take a step back to avoid getting hit by a girl who couldn't bother to watch where she was heading. I couldn't blame her. I had never seen such a pandemonium in my life. “This is crazy,” I muttered aloud. There were marks on the floor and on the walls, and shattered glass lined the floor just where I was about to plant my foot for the next step. The scent of blood hit my body hard, making me shudder. Bodies lay sprawled and scattered across the ground. Some of them were still quivering, fighting to revive the flickering flame of life, while others lay so alarmingly still. The torches lining the hall flickered erratically, casting eerie shadows over the destruction. This had the vast, written all over it. All around the crime scene were Damion’s footprints and claw imprints. Chaos heralded his presence, and devastation stuck around just after he had left. “
