Lyra(Mia’s)pov
By the time I rushed back into the room, I couldn't find him. After about two careful scans of the room I finally found home disappearing down a hallway. I raced after him trying not to bump into anyone on the way. . I could still recall the last time I had stumbled on Xander. He didn't have any business affiliations. All I knew him to be was the alpha, not a businessman. Or maybe that was one of the things that he had kept from me while we were together as well as his relationship with my sister. I slipped through the crowd and into the hallway. The guard at the mouth of the door had to stop me and confirm my identity. “I'm am the Luna!” I said with pride. “Sorry for stopping you, your highness. But you have to understand that only royalty is allowed to go through here.” I spotted a room at the end of the door. “What's down there?” “It's Alpha Damion's chambers. Only those summoned by the Alpha are allowed to pass.” I had to think of a lie, fast. “Well, I have been summoned by the Alpha.” “Hold on a minute. I have to call him to confirm you have an appointment.” “Call him? I wouldn't do that if I were you. You see, this is a very important meeting and it has already begun. It would be better if you didn't interrupt the Alpha.” He looked between me and his Walkie talkie but my convincing tone won him over. He smiled, letting me slip through. I got to the end of the ball on my tiptoes making sure to be as quiet as possible. Luckily for me the room's door was slightly parted. I leaned as close as I could and listened. The first voice I heard was that of Xander. “Thank you so much for hosting me. It's an honour…” “Save the pleasantries. I had to scrap out something important on my schedule for this so it better be worth it.” Damion still has that thick tone clinging to his voice. I could imagine what the atmosphere inside that room felt like. “I like that. So I'll cut to the chase. It's about your business clashing with mine.” “What is that supposed to mean?” Damion blurted out in an arrogant tone. “We are both huge owners of fashion companies and obviously competitors. However, I believe that it's best that wee stick to our territories.” So Xander was into the fashion business. He sounded like he owned a grand company and so did Damion. That reminds me of the time when I was younger and had dreams of going into fashion. But I had been discouraged by Xander. He had said it was too competitive and took all my ideas from me. He always enjoyed taking from me, that monster. I can't believe he stole my ideas and went to create a company with it. “You're giving me a speech, Alpha Xander. What is the matter?” “Your company is opening a branch in my pack. I would have used force to kick them out but I decided to handle the matter with peace. So tell your men to pack up and find somewhere else to hitch their tent.” I could hear slurping. It must have come from Damion. As soon as the cup kissed the table, he cleared his throat. “I can't do that, Xander.” “What? Why?” “It's not my fault that people from your pack like my brand more than yours. It's just a matter of demand and supply. As a businessman you should understand that.” He spoke so calmly that it was easy to dismiss the case as a matter of no significance. “Are you trying to take down my company?” “Why do you say that?” Something about the way he asked betraying and taking down the company was his intention. “You know that my company is suffering great backslash from the media and everyone.” “How is that my fault? You were the one who couldn't keep his bulge in his pants. It was your sexual scandal that ruined your company's name.” “Don't sound so righteous. The only reason why you have a smile on your face is because you haven't been caught yet.” A sexual scandal? Well that is not out of the ordinary for a man like Xander. “You know that I'm barely trying to keep up sales. Don't storm in and try to out stage me.” “You are down in sales, I thought you just called me your competition,” he blurted out, his tone laced with sarcasm. “Make fun of me all you want as long as you do what you know is right.” He sighed. “You know it's an unspoken rule in business. You stick to your territory and I do the same to mine. Now that there has been no escalation of the issue, I'm asking you to stop.” “The answer remains the same.” “Why are you doing this? Is it some sort of power play? Just play the rules so we both can be happy.” “I don't know if you noticed but I'm not a man who plays by the rules. Now if that is all, you can take your leave. What you should be more concerned about is making your products good enough. Word in the street is that they are whack?” “You are shaming my company?” “I'm giving you the truth that no one else in your company is going to be daring enough to give to you. Your designs are out of date. You need fresh ideas. In the beginning you made amazing dresses and then you fell off.” After he had stolen my ideas. It brought a smile to my face learning that he wasn't able to keep up with my vision. If only he had not tried to screw me over, I would have helped his business back to its glory. “A lot has happened since then,” he said, sighing. I'm sure at that moment he was being plagued with regret. “Just do as I asked.” I heard his chair scrape the floor. He was getting up to leave. I heard footsteps. They were headed for the door. I looked around. There was no way to run. If I tiptoes. I wouldn't make it in time without being caught. I just accepted my fate and leaned on the wall as Xander stepped out of the door.Xander's POV That pompous asshole! How dare he make such an ambitious move on my pack? I ought to have thrown his men out of my pack as soon as I got the chance. I blame myself for this humiliation. I was a fool for trying to play the peace card but that wasn't going to get me anywhere. It was time to put on my big boy pants and play the game he was calling me to play. I was going to stop begging and take matters in my own hand. I walked out of the meeting room sulking and plotting. If he wasn't going to leave peacefully, maybe it was time I played dirty like him. I didn't expect the figure I met as I walked out of the room. It was Luna Mia, the woman that had taken up space in my head beside the matter with Damion.I stopped in my tracks. “Luna Mia, here to see Damion?” Her eyes traveled between me and the room that I had just stepped out from before finally settling on me. “I was waiting for you,” she said calmly. “There is something I need to speak with you about.” My firs
Lyra(Mia's)POV I knew Xander was going to cave into my offer. The flirty gaze I shot him just ensures that I achieved my goal. Convincing Alpha Damion was the main battle. This arrangement wasn't going to work if I was locked up in the palace all through the day. This wouldn't be easy. Their interaction earlier where I had refused to respond after I had been summoned had made sure of that. But I couldn't let him boss me around whenever he wished after he had just made a fool of me in the presence of everyone in the town hall. Like a prodigal daughter, I returned to the chambers. The guard must have been signalled for my return. He just nodded as I walked through. I could hear the voices coming from the room and I was still a couple of feet away from the door. One I could make out to be feminine and the other I had made out to be Damion. No one else I had seen had that harsh tone in his arsenal. His voice was able to make anyone tremble like it did to me. I refused to knock. Th
Damion's POV You don't care about her! She is a traitor! Whatever she does is none of your business! I had to keep reminding myself that this woman had no layer of importance in my life. She was nothing more than an object to be used by me. Just like the other women in my life, she was nothing special. The others were just s*x toys meant to quench my list whenever I wanted to, she was just a figure to show to everyone as my Luna. The only women that I showed compassion towards were my mother and sister. I could kill for them anyday, anytime. They easiest way to mess with me was to try any attempt at harm to those two. Other than that, affection bore no residence in my personality. All I knew was duty to my pack and making sure everyone else feared me. I drowned my glass of root beer. I had taken a break to rewind from everything. Seated across from me was my Beta; Logan McGill. He was my best friend for as long as I knew how to walk. His father and mine were close so we basicall
Lyra(Mia's)POV I was seated beside Xander while Nyla sat in front. If looks could kill, I'm sure that Nyla would have buried a dagger in my gut like she had ordered her hoodlums to do in my other life. I was uncomfortable with her being in the same car with me. But I kept my cool. I didn't want to mess up this part of the plan. I ignored both of them and looked out the window. I recall the pack a little differently. There was a new building at every corner and new businesses here and there. Everyone wanted to dabble in commerce it would seem. Even the air seemed to smell different, unclear. Me being back here plagued me with so many memories. These were the streets I grew up in. I could remember touring every corner of the pack whether I was allowed to or not. I could still remember walking around with my sister and causing trouble wherever we went. Now that woman that meant everything to me was a traitor. I wouldn't have believed that we would ever grow apart and hate
Lyra(Mia’s)POV I didn't know how to react. A couple of seconds ago I was hoping that they would recognise me as their long lost daughter. But now the prayer was coming true, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me. “What did you just call me?” I managed to say. Xander approached my mother. “It's okay mother-in-law. It is not Lyra. They just have a striking resemblance.” That was enough to put my mother at rest. “Welcome to our home young lady. Come on. We have dinner spread out just for you.” I clasped my hand in silent apology. “I would love to but I have somewhere Xander and I are heading out to. It's a lively home you have here. I promise I'm going to pay you a visit again.” I couldn't stick around any longer. They were all smiling but I knew what they were behind that joyful mask. You should have seen how they all gasped when my mother had called out my name. It sounded like even the mention of my name was a taboo.Imagine the reaction I would get if they found out w
Damion's POVI had instructed my men at the gate to stop whichever car she was in and bring the driver to me. They had confirmed that, unlike what I had hoped, it wasn't Xander at the wheel, so I had asked them to let him go.Xander was a coward. After sneaking my wife off, he didn't have the guts to bring her back himself. I would have made sure he was severely punished for what he had just done. Here comes the culprit. I had not finished fixing her wings, and she had already leaped into the air and headed for another nest.I was boiling in anger, I wanted to punish her for leaving the pack without my permission. But that could wait. I was more interested in learning what had happened.“Where the hell are you coming from?” I yelled as soon as she was within earshot. I watched her feet almost give way at the sound of my voice. She could barely meet my gaze. I was sure the lava in my eyes would burst her pupils out of their sockets.“I was in Moonshine Pack. I just wanted to check out
Lyra (Mia’s)POVI hadn't expected to get accepted so easily, but I never imagined it would happen this quickly.“At least let me show you my designs. Let me prove that I'm not messing around.”“I'm not going to look at anything from you. I'm sure they’ll be trash. You have a lot of guts asking to work at my company. I only hire the best of the best, and you’re not one of them.”Why was everyone writing me off?If he gave me a chance, I would blow his mind just like I did with Xander.“Come on, Luna Mia. Let's get you back to your room.”I couldn't let this opportunity slip through my hands. It was the only chance I had to convince him, and I wasn't going to give up.“You don’t have to pay me. I just want to work for you.”“Why?”The question stunned me. But there was a follow-up.“Why would you choose me over Xander? I’m sure he has promised to pay you any amount you need.”“I don't feel comfortable around Xander. He is always trying to hit on me,” I began, putting on a pity-evoking ac
Lyra(Mia's) POVWhat a nice slumber! The bed was really cozy, sucking me in even when there was this nagging desire to wake up.I hadn't had such a nice sleep in a long while. I couldn't recall how I fell asleep, but I knew that what woke me up was not an alarm but the sound of birds chirping right outside my window. It was like they were singing to herald me. I was assured that this was going to be a great day. When I finally managed to pull away from the sheets, I let out a yawn, and my body had a good stretch.I could feel a light migraine, but that was only my body's protest against me not wanting to get in a couple more minutes of rest. It would clear after a cup of coffee or water.I had just gotten up to head to the bathroom when I stepped on something. I looked down to see a ball of rolled-up paper. My mind stung. The paper brought back the memories of the past night. Gasping, I jumped onto the bed. It wasn’t to sleep; I was headed for the digital clock on the bedstead.7:30.
Damion's POV You’d think I would be the last man on earth to take responsibility for what happened. You’d think that even after finding out all that had happened from Logan, I would let my pride win—that I would tell her off as usual. But I couldn't. Logan had told me everything. There was no confusion about what happened. It was hard to explain, just like the moment when I had felt her call out to me. But I had heard her. It was loud and clear. It was like a calming touch. Her voice was the string that was pulling me to the surface. It was the shield that came to my aid, keeping the beast away. I waited for her to say something, but shock had taken hold of her. She was gone. "Everyone, clear the room!" I commanded. No one dared to linger a second longer before storming out. "I know what happened. I owe my life to you, and I’m not going to act like that doesn’t count for something." "You’re sorry for what exactly?" "For pushing you away, for annoying you in anger
Lyra(Mia’s)POVI sat in the dark car that had brought me here. The only difference was that Logan was driving, and I was with the man responsible for everything that was going on—Xander. Logan couldn’t stop taking shots at him. “Oh, you are so dead, Mr. Smart.” “Let me get this straight. So after you had declared that you had nothing to do with Xander, you are spotted with him. Do you lie for a living, or are you just trying to piss off Damion?” “You can’t ask me any questions.” After all, he had been there when everything was falling apart. He could have stepped up to rescue me. “Just take us to the damn palace.” He did me a favor and kept mute until we got to the palace. Damion was still in his silk bed, but he looked a lot more worn than when I had last left him. I stood in front of Damion, counting my toes. Xander stood beside me. It was a strange mystery how he still handled it all with confidence. Either Damion was feeling merciful, or he was feeding off the fact that he
Lyra(Mia’s)POV I can't believe it. I had put so much effort into making sure that he was in good health. I never would have expected that he would play down all of my sacrifices. I was pissed, to say the least. The anger was boiling up, but that didn't take away the fact that I was still thinking about how he was feeling. So much for caring about him. The hospital had gotten toxic for me. I could understand his mother being ungrateful, but I expected more from him. Selling me out like that should have never been an option. I didn't care about the injury on me anymore. Instead of returning to my hotel room, I slipped on a hoodie and headed out of the hospital. I had just made it out of the hospital when I saw a car standing close to the hospital gate. I immediately recognized it as Xander's. It couldn’t have been him… The windows were down, and my biggest fears were confirmed. He stepped out of the car and began walking toward me. “How the hell did you get in here?” I asked, b
Damion’s POV “Good riddance to bad rubbish!” my mother fumed under her breath as Mia closed the door. She was spiteful. But something about the whole thing made me feel like what just happened was the wrong decision. “But Mother, what you did was too harsh.” “Come off it, Damion . I don't know if that evil woman attempted to use some kind of spell on you while you were asleep. Don't forget she is not looking out for your good.” That didn’t sound right, even to a heartless man like me. If she didn’t care one bit, she wouldn’t have come to watch over me despite her injuries. It was absurd to see that she would put herself in such a position. Logan walked closer after I turned to him. I noticed that beneath the usual excitement he appeared to have, he hesitated, visibly troubled. “Leave!” he instructed the nurse before turning to me after she had left. “What is it?” “Tell me all about what happened.” “You transformed,” Logan began. But my mother wouldn’t let him finish. “Don’
Damion’s POV Every part of my body was hurting. My legs felt like they were about to split in half anytime soon. Even the slightest movement was sending signals that shot through my nerves, making even breathing a struggle. I could hear a steady beeping sound in the background and the chatter of people. They didn't sound near, but their jumbled discussions were not clear enough. The light hit hard as I slowly lifted my eyelids. It took a couple of seconds and blinks to finally acclimate to the intrusion of light. "Where am I?" I managed to mutter. The answer was before me. All I could see was white—sheets and emptiness. There was no one in sight as far as my eyes could stretch. Sitting up would have given me a better chance to see the room, but my arms felt like a thousand grams were pressing down on them. I decided to lift a finger, but a sharp pain immediately repelled me. The thick smell of antiseptic whipped my nostrils, leading me to let out a sharp sniff. My eyes took i
Lyra(Mia’s)POVThat was loud enough to wake up anyone who was asleep—that is, if there was a slim chance that anyone would fall into slumber despite the chaos going on. I shut my ears and jumped back as the noise left his lips. My first thought—that he was about to attack—had been debunked, so I moved closer, lifting his hairy face to meet mine. Damion blinked. And for the briefest moment, his red eyes flickered back to gray. My heart leaped in hope that he was coming back. But then a loud horn sounded. I looked back sharply to see Logan at the back end of the loud horn. It was his signal to let me know he was on standby. “No, wait. Don’t fire. He is back to normal,” I yelled out in plea. But my voice fell on deaf ears. “Fire!” he commanded. Immediately, the little darts poked out of the guns and were headed right at us. I heard the grunts but quickly focused on the darts as they blew through the air. They came in from all directions mercilessly. “No,” I screamed as I watched t
Lyra(Mia’s)POVI should have fled. At that moment, I regretted everything that led me up to this moment. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have made sure to run away as fast as I could. Just looking at those eyes was enough to chase away any atom of conviction I had managed to muster. But there was no turning back—his eyes were locked onto mine. If I made any attempt to move, I would be the best target. “Please, Damion. You need to stop with this madness. You are hurting people. You need to stop.” I made sure to yell at the top of my lungs. But I was even more sure that my message didn't get to him. If anything, it bounced off as soon as it hit his ears. He kept charging forward. The ground chimed as he kept taking heavy steps closer. All he did was inhale as he walked closer. I wasn’t just calling out to him—I had a plan. And it was a great one if he would stick to me. I was hoping to ensure I stuck this blade into his chest. “Damion!” I screamed. “You don’t want
Lyra(Mia's)POVPeople were getting lesser and lesser by the minute. They had a choice. It was either they are wound up in a pile on the ground at Damion’s feet, or they were fleeing for their loved ones. You wouldn’t wanted to end up on the latter list, but it was hard to get that line of luck when an obvious beast like Damion was on the loose. Fewer people meant that soon enough, I would have his attention on me. “Oh great, you are here,” I heard someone say behind me. I turned to see Damion's mother. She was accompanied by Logan, who looked devastated, to say the least. But that didn’t catch my eye as sharply as the fact that they were both empty-handed. “Did you not get the wolfsbane?” I asked. “Are you blind? Do you see any on me?” His mother barked as she kept her voice low. She didn’t want to be heard by her son. Logan jumped in for the rescue. “There is too much crowd. Everyone is more concerned about getting to safety rather than looking for wolfsbane.” “Maybe if she di
Lyra(Mia’s)POV The hallway was a mess. Shrieks welcomed me as people were taking to their heels in all directions. I had to take a step back to avoid getting hit by a girl who couldn't bother to watch where she was heading. I couldn't blame her. I had never seen such a pandemonium in my life. “This is crazy,” I muttered aloud. There were marks on the floor and on the walls, and shattered glass lined the floor just where I was about to plant my foot for the next step. The scent of blood hit my body hard, making me shudder. Bodies lay sprawled and scattered across the ground. Some of them were still quivering, fighting to revive the flickering flame of life, while others lay so alarmingly still. The torches lining the hall flickered erratically, casting eerie shadows over the destruction. This had the vast, written all over it. All around the crime scene were Damion’s footprints and claw imprints. Chaos heralded his presence, and devastation stuck around just after he had left. “
