"The light thinks it travel's faster than anything, but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travel's, it finds darkness has always gotten there first and is waiting for it." Terry Pratchett
His eyes where cold and lifeless as they stared at me.
"You have no idea who i am? Do you?" He asked me.
"You'd think the confused look and the blank stare would have answered that for you..." I say, putting all the contempt i can muster into my voice.
Something very like fire flickered in his eyes, but only for a moment and it is gone, to be replaced with a look of pure hatred.
"All that blood looks good on you" He spits the words at me, and then adds in a whisper so quite i am sure he didnt mean for me to hear "It brings out your eyes"
The acrid smell of smoke fills my lungs as the wind shifts from blowing into my back to blowing from my right. The fires i set to burn the bodies will soon start to draw unwanted attention. The need to leave nearly overwhelms me, but i master it, i must know who this man thinks he is to me.
I turn my attention back to him, staring him straight in the eyes. And i am lost in them, they are a strange greyish-blue, like the sea during a storm. I am drawn to him the moment we lock eyes, and almost without being aware of it I find myself stepping towards him. The corner of his mouth twitches as if he wants to smile, but instead he clears his throat and breaks eye contact with me.
My head is fuzzy, none of this makes sense to me, i need to talk to Ri'elle, he will know what this means.
I keep my eyes on the man as i retreave my throwing knives from the last three bodies that i haven't burned yet, i then turn on my heals and sprint from the building.
Gravel crunches beneath my leather boots as i run down the alleyway. The rain begins to pour, and by the time i reach the main street the blood has washed from my skin.
I am sure that my black jeans, tee-shirt, and leather riding jacket are still drenched in blood, but it won't matter, no one will see. The street's are empty, and considering it is nearly 4 in the morning i am not surprised.
What does surprise me is that when i arrive at Ri'elle's house he is sitting on the porch with two other men. I slow down and move to the shadows as soon as i notice them, i want to speak to Ri'elle alone, not with his customers there. As i move closer, I see who it is, and I relax. Micheal and Peter, they are the other half of our foursome. The four of us grew up togeather, i trust these three with my life, though i trust nearly noone else.
Ri'elle is 5'8'' with dreadlocks that come down to his shoulders, he is clean shaven, with a strong angular jaw, He is fit, strong but not bulky, his eyes are amber and seem to shine in the moonlight.
Micheal is 6'7'' with short blonde hair, and large ears. I know that he is strong, but he really doesnt look it. He is large, but fat by any means, but he definitly has an extra layer.
Then there is Peter, he is 6 foot even, light brown hair, he has a mousy look to him, which suits him well, he is the quite one.
These three are the only people in the whole world whom i am absolutly SURE i can trust.
As i approach them Micheal stands to greet me, but a shift in the wind tells them i have been in battle recently, they can smell the blood on me and are instantly on high alert.
"What happened? Were you followed? Are you hurt?" Micheal asks in a rush.
"I am fine, calm yourself. I wasn't followed. But.." I pause nd turn to Ri'elle and add "I have so much to tell you... or ask you..."
Peter shoots a look at Micheal, but neither say anything. Only Ri'elle speaks. "Come, sit with us. Tell us what has happened on this night to bring you such distress."
I sit with them on the porch, and take the cup of coffee that Micheal offers me, as i start to tell them everything that happened. "Father came to me two days ago, he had learned of a plot... to kill Alpha maxwell. As the captain of the guard it is my fathers job to protect the Alpha, but to do so would require the use of his guard. Most of whom can only fight effectively in wolf form. Which would leave them vulnerable to the more deadly weapons of the hunters..." I trail off and take a drink of my coffee. Micheal is the first to speak. "Your father asked you to... what? Assassinate these hunters? Thats fucked up... I mean.. Annie., i know you are good with hand to hand combate and all... But considering your condition, that does seem risky to me..." he says. I know that the "condition" he is refering to is that i was the first of our kind to be born without a wolf, i still have hightened senses compared to the average human. My sight and hearing is nea
"Ri'elle... Who was that man? And why did he think i should know him..?" I ask. Ri'elle is quite for a moment, thoughtful. Then he stands and enters the house, I know from years of friendship that i am expected to wait here, so i do. When he returns he is holding a small golden bowl, a bundle of sage, and a lighter. He lights the sage, and starts to chant quietly under his breath. He taps the sage against the bowl, and swirls the smoke around and around my head. He silently stares at the smoke for so long that i start to worry that the spirits are giving him grave news indeed. When he speaks, i am not at all prepared for what he says. Ri'elle speaks slowly, making sure i don't miss a word. "Annie... The spirits... they say, well, they say that he is your Inamorato... Your other half... your Mate." "But... Ri'elle, your mother told mine when i was born without a wolf i would never have an Inamorato, I am destined to a life alone..." I let my voice
My mind feels raw, like it was put through a meat grinder. My eyes feel like someone used a melon baller to rip them out and then shoved them back in my head. These thoughts are the first to register in my mind as I return to consiousness. I am laying on something soft, i haven't opened my eyes yet, but i can tell the lights are very bright based on the redness shining through my closed eyelids. Then the voices register, loud, and angry, and all male. I know one to be my father, he is demanding to see me, but the doctors keep telling him he has to wait until I wake up. Micheal and Peter are fighting with someone, I can't tell who he is. A pack member maybe? or the man? Whoever he is I do not recognize the voice, but it is the most beautiful voice i have ever heard, even angry it sounds like music. I try to clear the fog from my mind while I am still alone. What happened? How long have i been out? Slowly I take stock of my body, my ribs are taped and sore,
Ansel locked eyes with me for a moment, I can see the fire rage in his eyes for just a second, and then he says "Yes Inamorata... I will behave... For now." Ri'elle compleate's his scan and says "Okay, i think it will be safe for you to try and talk to your wolf, once the wolvesbane wears off. But if she answers you need to be clear, tell her she cannot try and shift until we lift the curse. But...Getting to know her might help with that. I sense that her consiousness is here, in you, but her part of your soul is trapped, cut off from the rest of you, blind." I nod in agrement as i yawn, causeing Doctor Paul to speak up "Okay everyone, Annie need's her rest now. I will send nurse Betty in with you dinner in a minute Annie." My friend's all file out, but my father pauses. My father has light brown hair and green eyes, like Micheal and Peter, in fact 80% of my pack has green eyes. He is strong, but i must admit he is starting to look as though he is past his prim
"Ansel, what pack are oyu from?" I ask, suddenly curious because it can't be one of the pack's near by, or surely i would have met him before now... But if he was from a pack further away, i may not have met him. We are friendly amongst ourselves, most werewolf packs send groups of 17 year olds and older unmated wolves, to visit other packs in search of the amore. Traditionally the men do the traveling and the woman remain at their home packs. This started after an Alpha missed his amore because she was out looking for him, he found her 2 years later than he would have if she stayed put. It is not a law or anything, but most packs follow this as an unspoken rule, because no one wantds to miss their amore. The young men spend the summer months traveling from pack to pack until they find their amore, or the summer ends. Amore is the word we use to mean fated mates, paired by the moon goddess. Inamorato is the name you call your make partner, and Inamorata is the female partner. I know
"The goddess makes sure you can find each other, no matter what." When he says this something stirs in the back of my mind. "I think... When I was asleep. I think i dreamed of the goddess. She said that she was happy to see me again, that she had been so sad she could not reach me . I woke up soon after that." I tell him. He considered this for a moment and then said "I wonder if that was just s dream, or if the goddess was really reaching out to you, glad to have you back in the fold now that the curse has started to crack." "Started to crack? Because I was able to sense you as my amore and all that? Do you think that means the curse is weakening?" I ask, hoping the whole thing will just go away on its own. "Well, it might be, but i still think that we should research it, and try to break it 100% plus, i want to know who dares to put a curse on you, and why, because i am... Livid about it." He answers me, and for the first time I can tell that he
<I have so many questions> I tell her <Do you think we will be able to shift now?>*Honestly, i don't know... I feel like I am completely free from wherever I was trapped. But I also feel like there is a piece of us missing. Like our connection is not yet fused? I don't think we should try and shift again until we know alot more about this cures.*<Your right Mal. As soon as they let us leave the hospital we will start researching.>"Ansel, I just met my wolf!" I tell him excitedly "Her name is Mal, well, it's Mal for short... But still, I met her!""That's wonderful"He says. We are both grinning like idiots when doctor Paul enters the room. He has my next round of medications to help boast my healing, since i heal at the rate of a normal human, the doctors try to help me heal as fast as possible, they have made some incredible discovery's because of their desire to help me.I sit up without wincing, and
We enter the library on the first floor, after stopping off in the main kitchen for snacks. The children's room is full of toddlers, it is the young one's story time soon. As we enter a group of 8 little one's all about 3 or 4 years old, come running up to me, screaming with joy. I smile and drop to my knees, arms outstreched, the kids giggle as they collide with me in a big group hug. I love the children, I stop by the daycare a couple of times a week and play with them. They love that I will play pretty much any game they want me to. I spend a few minutes talking to them,. asking about their day. They all talk over each other, telling me about the games they have played over the last few days without me, and the book's Miss Molly has been reading to them in the library today. "Okay now my babies, I love you all, but i have some homework to do today. So i will see you later my darlings." I say to the room at large. Then i get to my feet and join my fathe
I turn to Ansel, not sure what to do about this vampire who has tried to kill me multiple times suddenly claiming to give me his alegence. *Give him an order, say a few orders out loud, but only put your authority into one, maybe that will help us know if he is lying..?* Ansel tells me through the mind link. I nod, then I turn to this vampire king to give my orders "Stand on your feet, spin around, tell me your name, touch your nose" Only a werewolf, vampire, witch, or other person magicly bound to me would be able to tell which one of these orders was the one with power behind it. But, as I speak the vampire does rise to his feet, he is slow to follow my second command, I can see he is thinking it through. The moment I give the order for him to tell me his name he follows the order without hesitation. "I am Samuel Keith Singer, King of the Vampires." He tells us. Before I can say anything else Ri'elle rushes out into the hall, he takes in the scene around him, his fingers are twi
Many in the pack are against the idea of a pack member adopting a child who is not a werewolf. They do not say so directly to me, but I can feel the stare's as I walk around with Nicky trailing behind me. I think that if I was anyone else besides the queen they would be much more vocal about their disapproval, or maybe it is because they can sense that Nicky is not human, so they figure he will not pose as much of a threat to the pack that a normal human would. Either way, I have decided to address the pack at dinner tonight. I want everyone to know that Nicky saved my life, but I also need them to know that he is MY child, and if anyone tries to hurt him they will have to go through me. Once everyone has taken their seats I call them to attention and introduce Nicky to the pack as my child. Ansel stands to his feet and addresses the pack. "He is OUR child. I know that a lot of you are going to find this odd... adopting a child from outside the pack is... uncommon to say the lea
I quickly untie the ropes from my legs, but I stay where I am on the ground, knowing my legs will be to shaky to hold me up. My Ansel suddenly apears, jumping over the limo, taking the vampire king down to the ground in one move. Then he takes the kings head off in one bite. The rest of my warriors are here now, fighting vampires on all sides. I watch in horror as one of my warriors move in, to attack Nixie, I jump to my feet and place myself inbetween Nixie and the warriors. The warriors stop dead in their tracks, tilting their wolfish heads at me, tying to understand why I am stopping them from saving me. "No, he is with me... He saved me... He is just a baby..." I pant out. The warriors nod and turn back to the vampires to finish killing the last of them. Nixie trasforms again, this time he is a pure white horse. He walks over to me and nudges his head under my arm, helping me stay on my feet. With Nixie's help I climb onto his back, and I ride on his
Over the next two days the whole pack pulls together to help the towns around us. We work our way down the street from the pack castle into the town, once we reach the edge of town each house that we pass we check for people in need of help. There was a lot of flooding in this area so we make is a point to check every house for the injured or trapped people. Most people evacuated the area before the storm hit, so many of the houses are empty, but we search them all anyways. This storm was predected to be more on the mild side, so people expected to be gone from their homes for only a few days, because the roads are not passable people can not return. We find some pets in houses alone, when we find a pet in an empty house we leave a note with a phone number and we take the pet back to the castle to be fed and taken care of until their families return. I want to lead the pack as we clear the roads, but the warriors of the pack insist on keeping me surrounde
It takes the whole pack working together for three days to get the whole castle and grounds cleaned up. Thanks to the warriors and other pack members who boarded them up, most of the windows are fine. But a lot of trees came down, and a few of them landed on some of the buildings on the grounds. The larger brick buildings are largely okay, a couple of them need new roofs put in. It is the smaller wooden buildings that took the most damage, a couple of them will need to be completely demolished, and a few others will need some major renovations to be usable again. I spend my days cutting the fallen trees into logs, so they can be moved out of the way of the rest of the clean up efforts. Once that is done I split the logs into fire wood. My back and shoulders are killing me after a two whole days of splitting and stacking logs. Ansel spends his days loading our dump trucks with pieces of the broken buildings, the warriors dump the debry from the trucks in one big
I know that I already agreed to help Ri'elle with his spell, and I will, but the thing is... After the regular spell work part of it...Ri'elle says in order to seal the magic I need to kiss Ansel. I have never done a spell that requires love kiss in order to seal the magic, but he says that this spell needs it. I know he would not lie to me, and I will do the magic he needs me to, the thing is that I think this spell maybe too advanced for me. I wish that Ri'elle was well enough to work the spell himself. Ansel walks with me in silence to our room, I am thankful that he lets me walk without talking because I need the time to sort out my feelings about this spell, and also to work up the courage to try this spell since I am not a full witch and my not have enough experience to work this spell.Once we make it to our room I ask Ansel to sit on the bed quietly so I can make myself ready for the spell. I change into a pure white dress, then I cleanse the space by burning sage. I finish s
"Micheal, thank you for meeting me here. I didn't want to leave her alone while she is still asleep...Something strange happened last night, and it wasn't the first time... There is something wrong with her..." I tell him in a low voice. "Okay, slow down and start from the beginning." Micheal tells me. "Okay, well... You know when we marked each other, tight?' I ask him, he nods and I go on. "Well, then on the first night we stayed in this room she made a big deal out of having sex, like it was the first time. And then she marked me again, and she had the same reactions to the marking as the first time." I tell him, then I pause and take a deep breath, I hate that I have to talk to Micheal about our sex life. "Okay, but that was 2 nights ago, so what happened last night that made you call me here so early in the morning..?" Micheal asks me. "She did the same thing, she initiated sex and then acted like it was the first time again. At
I follow Micheal as he takes me on a tour of the worst of the wounded. There are only a few people who got hurt badly enough to need to see a doctor, a few warriors where on the stairs when they passed out and as a result they fell down the stairs. One older man fell onto his tool box giving himself a concusion, and a few other fell in similar way. There is a total of 8 broken bone's and 3 concusions. Plus the 5 mothers who went into labor as a result of the stress from passing out the way they did. There was a total of 544 pack memebers effected by the spell, and only 18 people where hurt or effected badly enough to need to seek medical attention right away. The other 526 people have been givin the order to report to the hospital wing within the next 2 days, refusal to do so will result in punishment. I hate the idea of threatening the pack members, but this is how things are done, and everyone knows that I hate doing it, so they know to really listen when I do make t
I rush to the west tower, I have a bad feeling that something went wrong on Ri'elle's end. I race up the stairs and burst into the room, I find Ri'elle in the center of the room, spiritual energy fills the room, he is covered in his own blood, it looks as though the spirits are trying to rip him apart limb from limb. I know that if I siply rush to him the connection will be broken and his spell will backfire onto him completely. Right now I am thinking that maybe the spirits simply do not like the offering that he used. I skirt around the edges of the room, being carefull not to touch any of the silks. I make my way over to the rabbits in their cages, I reach in and take out one, I slit its throa and coat myself in its blood, saying a quick cleansing ritual as I do. Then I take a few cautious steps towards Ri'elle, then the door bursts open again and I see Ansel with some warriors right behind him. "STOP!" I order. "Leave, go check on the pack, if you touch any
