“How are we doing?” Easton asked Kai.
Kai pulled down his tie slightly as he looked up at his boss.
“Overwhelming. We have hundreds of applicants. We made sure word reached every corner of the country as you wanted, Sir.”
Easton nodded, “Good. Have Amanda hand over all the designs to you, I need to take a look.” He instructed.
“Yes sir,” Kai responded.
And overwhelming it was indeed. Every person in the country applied. It was the talk of the city and the first thing the media talked about each morning.
From talented to aspiring designers, they all wanted to work for the Black Enterprises knowing that would change their lives forever.
Even cleaners and cooks earned more than an average person in Bayern so you can only imagine how much a designer would make.
Seeing that everything was falling into place, Easton turned to walk towards his office. His heart couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. He was getting closer to finding her.
But had she seen the advert?
What if she didn’t want to participate?
The questions kept running in his head but he laughed to himself as he sat behind his huge office desk.
“She will definitely apply, her love for money will bring her to me and that will be her ruin.” He thought out loud.
His heart still ached at the last words she said to him five years ago. Time had passed but it did nothing to soothe his broken heart. She was the reason he had turned ice cold. The reason he never believed in love ever again.
“I don’t love you. I just wanted to stay with you for your money.” Scarlet’s voice said in a sharp and cold tone.
“You’re lying!” Easton stepped closer and searched her eyes, afraid of what their happy relationship was about to turn to.
Scarlet laughed dryly, “Oh come on Easton, I grew up in an orphanage! I can never go back to poverty and motivation seems to be something you lack, so let’s break up! You may have money now, but it’s your daddy’s money. I want a real man!”
A knock on the door made Easton snap out of his painful memory. One of the few that hunted him every night.
“I have the designs, sir,” Kai announced.
“Thanks. Let me take a look.” He waved him over.
As he browsed through all the designs that had been presented, none of them looked appealing and none of them had what he wanted.
The closer he came to the end the harder his heartbeat and his stomach twisted into knots as the realization hit him,
She didn't apply.
Seeing the disappointed look on his face, Kai asked, “That's thousands of designs But it seems none of them has appealed to you.”
Easton sighed, leaning back in his chair as his shoulders sagged in disappointment, “I'm looking for a -”
Before he could finish speaking, there was another knock making them both turn as Kai walked over to it to check who it was.
Easton hated being disturbed so only Kai Wang, his secretary of five years, was allowed to be around him or step Into the office. Everything went through him.
“Come in.” He announced making Easton wonder who it was as he hoped It wasn't Jade because was in no mood to tolerate her annoying presence.
When Amanda came into view, he sighed in relief but his stone-cold face remained unmoving as he waited for her to explain why she was in his office.
“Mr. Black, we missed some designs. We thought you'd be interested in taking a look at them. These seem different and much better than anything we've seen so far. It's so unique and has a creative touch to it.” Amanda explained excitedly as she placed the tablet on the table.
Easton grabbed it and started scrolling Through, “You sound like you're already nominating a winner.” He commented dryly, sounding unimpressed before adding “Why are they not printed?”
“They were submitted online, sir. I rushed here the moment I saw them and assumed you'd want to see them immediately. “ Amanda explained as the atmosphere started getting suffocating.
“I see” Came his response as he swiped over the new designs.
He was about to give back the tablet when a particular design caught his eye.
Pausing, his ocean-blue eyes scanned the design intently. It was a beautiful gown, painted deep blue with beautiful flowers embroidered into it. It was holding the model's upper chest and flowing loosely from the waist going below. But that wasn't the only thing that caught his attention, It was the butterfly at the corner of it.
He stood, holding the tablet like his life depended on it. He recognized that logo in a heartbeat.
Only she did that.
It was her signature move that only he and Scarlet knew about.
He looked up, “Do we have information for all those who submitted their designs?” His deep voice sliced through the room.
“Yes,” Kai responded.
“Good, I need you to find out who designed this!” He instructed.
“Yes, Mr. Black,” Kai responded as he walked out with Amanda.
Easton sat back and drummed his long fingers on the desk with a pounding heart.
He was closer to finding her!
Finally, he would get his revenge and maybe all the pain he felt would go away and he would find peace again.
Every Second that passed seemed like an eternity. His eyes stayed glued to the door as he waited with a pounding heart.
An hour passed.
Second hour.
He felt like it was becoming harder to breathe as he waited.
Until finally,
The door opened and Kai entered,
“The designer's name is Scarlet Frost”
Easton’s heart pounded harder for a second as he leaned forward from his seat. He felt his rage and anger bubble inside his chest, but he also felt relief.
It was time to collect what was due.
He stood and grabbed his coat,
“Find her!”
Easton’s car cruised through the streets, he tapped his long fingers on his thigh absentmindedly as he imagined the first thing he would say once he was face to face with Scarlet.Five years had passed since they last saw each other, but even after so long, no one had such an effect on him as she did. A painful memory he’d kept buried resurfaced. The image of her walking out on him, her cold words lingering in his mind like a wound that refused to heal. Her beautiful brown eyes which always sparkled when she looked at him looked dead. Was money her only goal from the beginning?“Easton! There’s been an accident!” Jade’s frantic voice echoed in his mind, pulling him deeper into his storm of emotions and opening the Pandora's box that held all his memories. One he held onto as a reminder of why he was going to make the two people who ruined his life pay! He clenched his jaw, resentment coursing through him. The woman he once loved had shown him how easily love could be twisted into be
"Mom, please let me come with you!” Jasmine’s small hands clung to her arm, eyes teary as she pleaded. “Sweetheart, we talked about this. It’s better if Aunt Aria stays with you today. I’ll be back soon,” Scarlet replied gently, brushing a stray curl from her daughter's forehead. Jasmine pouted making Scarlet’s heart shred into pieces. She also wanted her daughter to tag along but she couldn’t.What if she didn’t win and they were thrown out of the building? She had stayed up the previous night thinking of all possible scenarios and none of them ended with her walking out with a smile on her face.‘Then why are you going?’ An annoying voice taunted her.‘Because I’m desperate and I can’t mooch off Aria forever!’ She snapped.“Mama?” Jasmine’s melodic voice voice pulled her back. “Yes, honey.”“Are you going to wear that makeup, Mama? You look beautiful, but it has changed your face!” Jasmine pointed out, making Aria laugh so loudly that she choked on her coffee.“Mama just wanted t
Scarlet’s heart pounded hard as she fought to steady her breathing. His gaze was fixed on her, those ocean-blue eyes showing a mix of curiosity and something unreadable. Her mind raced, wondering how he’d recognized her. ' Maybe it was a guess,’ she thought as she decided to ignore him and pretend she didn’t hear him. But he only stepped closer, his tall frame towering over her,“Did you lose your hearing?” He taunted. For a brief second, she considered not responding, pretending to be someone else. But she knew Easton too well. He was the kind of man who noticed every detail, and it seemed makeup couldn’t save her either.Slowly, she dragged her eyes to meet his, biting her lip as her heart pounded hard against her chest..."Easton," she finally breathed, lifting her chin slightly, hoping her voice didn’t betray her nerves. "I didn’t expect…to see you here." “Where else would I be?” He placed his hands in his pockets.Scarlet was tempted to say, ‘Anywhere but here.’ But she remained
“Scarlet! Congratulations on winning! This calls for a celebration!” Aria said, throwing her arms around Scarlet the moment she walked through the door but Scarlet felt like her heart had been ripped out and burst into tears in her friend’s arms.Aria frowned worriedly but waited until she was composed again before taking her to the couch. The competition was being streamed live so everyone saw the winner and the new top designer of the Black Enterprise.“Are these tears of joy?” Aria asked once they had sat down.“I wish!” Scarlet sniffed as she leaned back on the couch before her eyes found Aria’s again, “Where is Jasmine?”“She was so excited when she saw you win and tried the best she could to stay awake but she just couldn’t, she’s asleep now. But don’t change the topic. Did something happen?”.Scarlet forced a smile,"Scarlet, talk to me, babe. You’re making me anxious!” Aria pushed on until Scarlet finally gave in with a heavy sigh. She took a shaky breath, struggling to find th
Scarlet’s eyes widened into saucers as she leaned closer like she didn’t hear him correctly, “You want me to pay Five million dollars? How is that even legal? This is ridiculous! No one said anything about me having to join your company Automatically.”Mr. Callahan held up his hand and spoke calmly which was even more annoying for Scarlet. “I understand this may be unexpected.”“You have no idea,” Scarlet held back the urge to roll her eyes. “However,” Mr. Callahan continued, “The company’s policies are clear, Miss Frost. If you refuse the position, you are liable for the liquidated damages. That’s why we highly recommend that you read through a document before signing it.”Scarlet's heart pounded as rushed upstairs to grab the confirmation letter and rushed back down with it. She stared at the confirmation letter in her hands and couldn't believe it; in her panic after seeing Easton, she had missed the hidden clause binding her to the company. “That bastard!” She muttered under
Scarlet froze, totally caught off guard by the sight of Easton standing in front of her, barely covered by the towel slung low on his hips. Her eyes moved over Easton without meaning to.He stood there, the towel hanging low around his waist, barely covering him. The towel rested just above his hips, and water droplets were slowly rolling down his well-defined chest and abs. Some of the droplets slid lower, disappearing into the towel, leaving very little to the imagination. As he moved, his muscles tightened, and the water drops shimmered on his skin, disappearing into the lines of his body. Scarlet felt her heart race, trying to focus, but the sight of him was hard to ignore. He must have been a Greek God in his past life. Because how could he look so… Scarlet shook her head and tried to refocus her mind. She hadn’t prepared to meet him looking so... exposed. Her face flushed, a mix of embarrassment and frustration creeping up her cheeks as her eyes betrayed her, flickering to t
Scarlet had been completely caught off guard by the sudden kiss. It was nothing like she remembered. His kiss was hard, full of anger, yet there was a hint of something else—something familiar. He cupped her face, his thumb brushing her cheek making her moan which gave him access to her tongue. The kiss was demanding, fierce, and all-consuming. Like a spell, she couldn't break away from. His touch ignited something deep inside her. It was like her entire body was on fire making her lose all control as her hands found their way to his chest, the smoothness of his skin sending a rush of heat through her fingertips as his firm muscles flexed beneath her touch. A thrill of desire shot through her, and she felt her body responding, her nipples hardened and her heart raced, She had planned to resist, to push him away, but the moment he kissed her, it was like her body betrayed her. She couldn’t stop herself from responding, even as her mind screamed at her to break free.Easton, too
Jade's nails dug into her palms as she watched the repeat of the competition broadcast on her TV. She stood from her couch and almost jumped into the TV the moment she saw Easton walk up to Scarlet and present the prize to her.She could see how he easily recognized her even though she wore so much makeup. Jealousy burned in her chest as she felt like she had already lost him to Scarlet. He was supposed to humiliate and ruin her, not award her with $300,000!‘She must have manipulated him!’ A voice came and Jade immediately agreed because there was no way this would happen!“How shameless is this bitch?” She screamed as she grabbed a glass from the coffee table and hurled it across the room, watching it shatter against the wall. Servants came rushing into the living room to make sure she wouldn’t hurt herself. “Young Madam, please calm down.” Berth, her assistant and head of security tried to step in when Jade crossed the room in a few strides and landed a hard slap across her face.

Ten years later…The Black estate was alive with laughter and warmth, a stark contrast to the cold, intimidating mansion it had once been. “It wasn’t me!” Michael Black, once known for his gruff and no-nonsense demeanor, had long since abandoned any illusion of control in his household. He stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, sipping his morning coffee, and watching the chaos unfold in the garden below. His ten-year-old daughter, Sophia, a whirlwind of energy with her mother’s stubbornness and his sharp mind, was currently chasing her younger brother, Eli, around the backyard. Eli, at six years old, was just as mischievous as his sister, but with a charm that let him get away with just about anything—especially with his mother. Vivian had always been a force to be reckoned with, but as a mother, she was even more terrifyingly devoted. Michael smirked as he watched her from the window. She was standing with Scarlet, laughing as she scolded Sophia for attempting
“What is going on?” Vivian asked, her voice laced with curiosity as Michael carefully led her outside, his large hands covering her eyes. “Just trust me,” he murmured near her ear, his deep voice sending a familiar shiver down her spine. Vivian huffed but didn’t argue. She could feel the cool evening breeze against her skin and the soft sound of music in the background. The scent of roses filled the air, mingling with something delicious—her stomach grumbled in anticipation. Finally, Michael stopped his hands slowly slipping away from her face. Vivian blinked as her vision adjusted, and when she finally took in what was before her, her breath hitched. The backyard had been transformed into something straight out of a dream. A large mattress covered in rose petals was nestled under twinkling fairy lights, and a beautifully set dinner table stood nearby, illuminated by the soft glow of candles. A huge screen was set up, ready to play what she assumed was one of their favorite
The grand estate was transformed into a dream-like setting, decorated in soft hues of pink and blue. Fairy lights twinkled in the trees, and elegant floral arrangements adorned every corner of the sprawling garden. A large "Baby Black" banner hung over the beautifully arranged dessert table, where an assortment of sweets and a magnificent tiered cake waited to be cut. Michael had spared no expense, ensuring the event was perfect. Vivian, of course, had demanded something extravagant, and he had gladly complied. Vivian stood in the center of it all, glowing, her six-month baby bump accentuated by a flowing satin dress that curved just below her bust. She had chosen a shimmering gold gown, refusing to blend into the pink and blue theme. Her hair had been turned into soft curls, and her eyes sparkled with excitement. Michael, ever the grumpy billionaire, stood beside her in a white shirt and black pants, looking both inpatient and ridiculously handsome. Vivian had complained a
Michael unlocked the door to their home. A cake in one hand and flowers in another. His mind still running through his conversation with Easton. Foot rubs, space, asking what she needed—it all felt a little… too simple. But he’d try. He needed to try. The moment he stepped inside, he was hit with the scent of freshly baked cookies. He paused, taking a slow breath. His heart rate quickened. Was she really baking? Vivian didn’t exactly strike him as the domestic type. His curiosity led him further into the house, and that’s when he saw her. Vivian stood by the kitchen counter, a wide grin on her face, clearly waiting for his reaction. Her apron was askew, flour streaked on her cheek, but she looked happier than he’d seen her in days. “Michael!” she exclaimed, her voice laced with excitement. “I made cookies! I thought you’d like them.” “Really? I got you your cake and some flowers.” Micheal responded, hesitation filling his voice as he searched for a reaction.Vivian’s smil
Michael sat across from Easton at a secluded café, nursing a cup of coffee. His eyes were bloodshot, and his hands kept fidgeting as if he had no idea what to do with them. His mind was racing, but he was at a complete loss. Easton sat back in his chair, eyes scanning the menu as if Michael wasn’t about to have a mental breakdown in front of him. Finally, he looked up, raising an eyebrow as he studied his older brother. “You look like shit,” Easton said with a smirk, clearly not concerned with Michael’s state of mind. Michael glared at him. “You always have a way with words, don’t you?” Easton chuckled and leaned forward, folding his arms across his chest. “So, what’s going on? The great Michael Black losing his cool over a pregnancy?” Michael huffed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “I can’t do anything right, Easton. She cries all the time, and I don’t know how to handle it. Everything I do seems to upset her. I just want her to be happy.”Easton raised
Michael’s grip tightened on his pen as his phone vibrated again. He ignored it. For the past thirty minutes, Vivian had been bombarding him with messages—most of them utterly useless. Vivian: [Where’s the cup?]Michael: [Kitchen.] Vivian:[Where are the plates?]Michael: [Same place as the cups.] Vivian:[Should I bring you lunch?]Michael: [No.]Vivian:[Why not?]Michael inhaled sharply, fighting the urge to rub his temples. He was in a high-stakes meeting with top executives, discussing a billion-dollar deal, and his wife was acting like a toddler. They had moved into a new home because she hated penthouses and apartments. So he had built her a house she could turn into a home but now he was regretting having had everything done. He should have let her decorate to keep her busy. Another buzz. Vivian:[What are you doing?] Michael clenched his jaw. [Working.]Vivian: [Boring. Want me to send you a funny picture?]He didn’t reply. Two seconds later— Buzz.He g
6 months later….“Vivian, please! You have to talk to your husband!"Vivian held the phone away from her ear, staring at it like it had personally offended her. She sighed, reclining further into the oversized armchair, her silk nightgown draping over her six-month belly. Her father’s frantic voice continued. “He’s taken everything! The company, the house—do you hear me? I have nothing left! Your sister's savings for her tuition!" Vivian swirled the fresh orange juice in her glass, utterly unimpressed. “Mmm. That does sound like a problem.” "Vivian Chen!”“It's Mrs Black. Don't make me lose my temper this morning.”“Right. Right. You see you're his wife make him reverse it!” Vivian had no idea what Micheal had done but she was bored and would enjoy every moment of it. She sighed dramatically. "Oh, I’m sorry. I should be more understanding. After all, when I needed help, everyone rushed to my aid, didn’t they? Oh wait—no one did.” "This isn’t funny! Tell Michael to stop this
The room felt impossibly small despite how grand the ceremony was. Vivian’s pulse thundered in her ears as the priest began speaking, his voice a distant sound compared to the storm of emotions within her.So this was happening. Instead of being sold to an old hag, she was now marrying a stranger who she had a one night with. It's not the best option, but it's definitely the lesser evil. Michael’s hand remained wrapped around hers—firm, warm, unshaking. He looked like he was sure about this. Calm and collected while her mind was going wild, and she was about to go insane from the number of thoughts that were spinning in her head. Doubts. Fear. Uncertainty. He had always been a mystery, with a strong aura she folded to. Yet, standing here, the certainty in his eyes sent a shiver down her spine. This was real. The priest cleared his throat. "The couple has chosen to exchange personal vows. Michael, you may begin."“We have?” Vivian blurted out, making everyone chuckle. It was li
