Chapter 5: Jason's Mistress

Amanda

, "They're still alive," The Doctor reported to us after hours spent in emergency surgery on both of them. "Thankfully, the knife didn't pierce any delicate organ. They're in a coma, as they have severe brain injury, alongside the multiple stabbing wounds found on their bodies."

"When will they wake up?" That was the first word I managed to say ever since I had entered and found their almost lifeless bodies back in their house.

"I can't say, but there's hope. It'll take a while, but they might be able to survive this. We'd keep a close eye on them, rest assured."

We thanked the doctor, stood up, and headed to the room that held the grandparents. They were oblivious to their surroundings and were very much unconscious, but it appeared they were sleeping peacefully.

I felt a hand on my shoulder from behind and looked up to see who it was, "Anderson," I sighed in relief. Thank you. You've been of great help to me," I went in for another hug and cried heavily.

"How did this happen to them?" I asked in between sobs.

"That lady we saw," Anderson stated, "what was she doing there? And, how's it that we found your grandparents that way just as soon as she left?"

Before I could answer or say another word, the police came in.

"We'd need both of you at the station. We have some questions for you, if you don't mind," one of them said, looking at us as though he were trying to read something.

"She might not be able to come with us," Anderson said, as he rubbed my shoulders gently, " but, I'd come along. She needs to rest."

"Are you her husband?" The same officer, who seemed to be the head of them all asked.

"I'm not... he's not," Anderson and I said simultaneously.

The officer gave a knowing smile and then proceeded. Where's your husband, then? We'd need him at the station, too.

No! For some reason, I didn't want Jason to know. If he found out that my grandparents were unconscious and in the hospital, he'd find a way to end their lives completely and put the blame on me.

As if reading my exact thoughts, Anderson said, "Officer, I don't think we should involve him. He's a very busy man. Besides, he wasn't even at the scene."

"Yes, yes," the Officer affirmed, but, he's related to your friend right here, right? Right now, the both of you are suspects until proven otherwise"

The Officer paced around uncomfortably, then added, "We've extracted evidence from the crime sites. We have the crime object in our possession and other tangible evidence. We'd investigate thoroughly, and if we found out that you both are innocent, then, we'd let you go."

"But, Officer, can we please not involve my husband in all of this? He..."

Jason walked in immediately before I could finish talking. My eyes widened and I clutched the hem of Anderson's T-shirt tightly, "Don't worry, you're safe with me. Besides, the police are here. No harm would come to you" he whispered against my ears and I relaxed a little.

I wondered how Jason got to know about my grandparents. Nothing was adding up.

"Who are you?" The Officer asked.

"Jason... Jason Grey. Amanda's husband," he said as he looked at me expressionlessly. I wondered what was going through his mind.

"Are you aware of the accident?" The Officer asked, "How did you find us?"

Jason moved over to my grandparents' bed, "what happened, here?" Ignoring the Officer's question, he sat on the bed carefully and looked sad. One would actually think that he genuinely cared.

"We need to go to the station," the Officer said with finality in his voice.

Everyone stood up and left for the station.

********

The Officer questioned each of us but found no evidence connecting either of us as the suspect.

We told the Officer about Lena, but he dismissed it, saying that the fingerprints found on the knife didn't match that of Lena.

With a heavy heart, we all went home.

Immediately Anderson dropped us off, and Jason and I went into our house, I made for the kitchen as I was famished, but Jason grabbed me and landed a slap on my face which threw me off guard and I missed a step and fell heavily on the floor.

"What have you done?" He grabbed me by the neck, spat on my face, and hit me violently.

"Do you want to kill me, Jason? Do you enjoy beating and hitting me?" I cried out holding him by the collar.

I had CCTV in all the hidden corners of the house. If I wanted to save my baby and myself, I had to gather evidence that would send Jason to jail.

"What did you do to your grandparents? Don't think that just because you did this and they're unconscious right now, you might be able to call off the wedding! If you do anything funny, I'd kill you and kill your grandparents, too."

"Yes, Jason,' I gathered myself together and stood up. I felt a sharp pain in my neck and on my chest, where Jason had hit me, but I dared not show him that all he had been doing affected me in any way. Jason enjoyed feeding off my weakness and pain.

It still didn't make sense to me. If Jason didn't love me, why did he marry me?

He had taken over my dearest father's company, and I didn't stand in his way. So, where's the deep hatred coming from? Sometimes, he behaves as though he's trying to exact some revenge of somewhat on me. As if, he was intentionally putting me through hell, and no one knew about... except Anderson, who recently found out.

"I'm going to file for a divorce!" I blurted, trying to put up a brave front, "I have had enough of your madness! I'm tired! Enough is enough!"

Jason laughed as though he found what I said very funny, " You've been saying that forever already, but we both know you can't do anything. You're nothing without me, Amanda. Stop being delusional."

He was right. My life revolved around Jason, and although he treated me like trash, strangely, I still loved him and desperately prayed that things would get better. I couldn't do anything, because Jason was an evil force to reckon with. I was scared of my grandparents' lives, and my unborn child's life.

I wouldn't let any harm come to them; I resolved within me.

"You had better focus your energy, strength, and time towards taking care of your grandparents and ensure that they recover, you vile woman!" He cursed out, "And, just do well to stay out of my sight."

Jason went upstairs, freshened up and came back downstairs. It seemed he was expecting a visitor. I confined myself in my room, licking my wounds in silence, when I heard someone walk into the building.

"Hello, Lena," Jason sang joyfully, "welcome."
