Chapter 6 Now Or Never!

Amanda

Would you believe that Amanda told the Police that she thinks I'm the one that harmed her grandparents?" Lena adjusted in her seat, crossing one leg against the other, and leaning towards Jason.

"What?" Jason feigned surprise, "I don't understand. Why'd she do that?"

"Apparently, she saw me driving out of her grandparents' compound on the day of the accident." Lena sipped on the drink that Jason had offered her, then sighed deeply.

"What were you doing there, though?"

"I actually did pay them a visit, but I walked in and found them like that, unconscious and almost dead," she said sulkily, "so I left.

"Why didn't you take them to the hospital? Why didn't you call the police?"

"If I had done that, wouldn't that have implicated me?"

Jason stared at Lena, trying to read her expression, but she remained expressionless.

"You really didn't do it, right? As much as I despise Amanda, I don't want you harming her grandparents. That's my concern, not yours."

"You're forgetting that they're my grandparents, too. I couldn't possibly harm them..."

Jason looked away, "you're very much capable of doing that," he muttered.

"What are you trying to say?"

Jason smiled and waved it off, "Nothing. The most important thing is that you are innocent."

"Even though Amanda's my step-sister, and we share the same paternal grandparents, I would never harm them. That's not who I am."

"If you didn't do it, " Jason's brows furrowed In deep thought, "then who did?"

Lana shrugged, "That's for the Police to find out. Meanwhile, if you think about it, you'd benefit massively from this."

"How?"

"You want to take revenge on Amanda, right? Don't you know that this would destroy her? If you harm our grandparents, you're indirectly hurting her, too," Lena clapped hysterically, as though she just solved a difficult puzzle.”

"You claim to be their granddaughter, too," Jason began, "wouldn't this affect you, too?"

"I don't really care about them," Lena sighed, "they are only my grandparents in name, to be honest. They never treated me like their own, to be honest."

"You're still yapping about being Amanda's stepsister, aren't you?" Jason walked towards the AC stand, took the remote, and increased it. The room was very cold.

"Because I really am her step-sister," Lena raised her head down, as though embarrassed by the thought of it, then raised it up again, "My father never really liked me or cared about me, though."

"Still," Jason began, " I would have known, don't you think? We have been together for so many years now. So, how don't I know about this?

"It isn't something that I'm proud of, Jason. I'm his illegitimate child

Amanda tried as much as possible to remain quiet and eavesdrop on Jason and Lena; but, suddenly her phone rang noisily, bringing everything and everyone to a pause.

She dashed into her room and leaned against the closed door, her heart beating quickly.

Jason and Lena exchanged glances, then Lena said, "Your wife... That was her, right?" She scrunched her nose, as though the thought of it nauseated her.

"Yes," Jason offered an uneasy smile, "she should be in her room."

"That reminds me, you told me that you were going to divorce her, remember? What's happening? We can't continue keeping our relationship secret," Lena jammed the cup on the table, stood up, and started pacing.

Jason approached her and held her waist from behind, "Don't get all worked up Sweetheart," he turned her around, making her face him, "I'm sorry, but I can't divorce Amanda right now. It'd spoil all my plans."

Amanda gasped from her hiding place upstairs, not sure she heard correctly. She covered her mouth with her palms, and steadied herself, in order not to make any noise that would give her away.

"Are these plans of yours different from what I know?" Lena caressed Jason's beard with one hand and placed the other hand on his chest, "I don't really understand you, Jason. Don't you want me anymore?"

Jason cupped her cheeks with both hands and kissed her deeply, "You know I want you, Lena. My marriage to Amanda is a camouflage."

Hearing this, Amanda decided she was done with hiding. She approached Jason and Lena, who were so engrossed in their forbidden activity, that they didn't hear her footsteps.

"What's going on here?" Amanda asked as she stood facing them, with both hands on her waist.

She rolled her eyes at Lena because she had on ripped bum shorts, which revealed her butt cheeks, and a transparent tank top.

"As you can see, I'm with Lena, can't you give me some privacy? Did you have to come here and make your presence known?" He momentarily disengaged from Lena and looked Amanda squarely in the eye.

"How can you be making out with Lena in our house? How can you be so bold and disrespectful, that you make out with this thing in our house, Jason?" Amanda was furious, and Jason could see it, but he didn't care.

"I suggest you go back upstairs and continue with whatever it is that you were doing. Leave us... alone." Lena sang joyously as she saw defeat written all over Amanda's face.

"I've tolerated enough of your shameful behavior," Amanda said, pointing to both of them, "and I refused to be disrespected this way..."

"What can you do, Amanda?" Jason gave her a dead stare, "I think you've talked enough. You've made your point. Now, please, go back upstairs, before I do something you wouldn't like."

Amanda stood her ground, which annoyed Jason gravely. He approached Amanda and gave her the beating of her life, amidst joyful cheers from Lena.

Amanda lay on the floor, she could hardly breathe, and before she could see or do anything, she passed out.

Lena screamed, extreme fear written all over her face. " You've killed her," she said to Jason, "you've killed her. What do we do, now?"

"Nothing," Jason said, "it serves her right. She's better off d

ead, anyways!"

He grabbed Lena by the hand and together they left the house, leaving Amanda on the floor.
