Verendus stood and looked out the glass of his office window, the skyscraper providing the perfect view of the entire city laid before him. His building was the tallest in the city and he coveted his view, especially the vantage point it provided him. He knew every inch of this city, after all, he owned it, ran it from the shadows. The place he had dominion over. Nothing in this city happened that he didn’t know about. He was after all owner and creator of Blackthorne Security Solutions, the world's largest paramilitary organization.

The BSS provided all the security services, technology and equipment for the city. He provided the police department with equipment, weapons, body armour and everything else they needed through legitimate government contracts. Military contracts as well. The BSS was the most prosperous company of its kind. As the owner Verendus knew everything that happened within its w

Kinsley left work with her bag in tow and headed to the parking lot behind the building. It was later in the morning, almost noon and the day was bright and sunny, warm with a cool breeze. It was a beautiful day yet she felt as if something was brewing, something big. Perhaps it was just her insecurities with her brother, her worry and fear that he wouldn’t wake up. She got into her car and made the drive home, parking in front of her building before entering the building. Rather than use the front entrance and the main elevator she used the freight elevator and stepped into her unit on the top floor. “Honey I’m home.” she said in a sarcastic sing-song voice as she entered her empty apartment, snorting at what has become an odd habit of hers over the years. She dropped her bag on the table and walked across the large open space to the large sliding door that hid her bathroom from the open floor plan. She

After the meeting, Kinsley raced back to the office to see if Sawyer was awake so she could share the good news with him. She was excited about this chance and it would mean big things for the agency. Kinsley was always proud of the work The Anderson Agency of Preternatural Investigations did, but in a lot of cases, it was after a crime had already been committed by a preternatural entity. Things like kidnapping, murder, sometimes just assault or break-ins, but the damage was already done when the Agency got involved. So in partnering with Blackthorne Security Solutions the hope was that people would be a little safe, abductions, break-ins, and murders by a preternatural entity might not be so common. The agency had its fair share of ‘easy’ jobs as well. Mediating disputes between the preternatural and the mundane, tracking down rogue shifters, especially those who have committed crimes against the

“So what did you discover in her apartment?” Verendus asked Stygian as they sat having a drink in his office, looking out over the city and all the lights in the dark sky. Stygian swirled his glass in his hand before drinking the amber liquid in one gulp as he regarded his long time friend. “Everything is set up perfectly, full surveillance like you asked for. Her magic is strong and it was in every inch of that place. I, unfortunately, couldn’t help but leave some of my magic behind. I left it in the form of a scent memory, it doesn't give anything away. It’ll just make her think of the Unseelie Court, make her curious more than anything.” He replied, watching Verendus closely as he frowned before rubbing his hand over his face and sighing. “I’d rather she not have discovered anything but if her magic is as strong as you say it is then perhaps it’s for the b

“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.” Kinsley muttered to herself as she drove down the access road that would take her to the client's home, the forest already heavy and thick around her. She sighed and quickly glanced at the GPS, making sure she was going in the right direction. The last thing she wanted to do was get lost in this place. Her grip on the steering wheel tightened as the road in front of her widened and curved into a large driveway, leading her to stop in front of a surprisingly large farmhouse. It was 2 stories with a large wrap-around porch and white siding. The screen door was open and a small petite woman was standing in the doorway watching as Kinsley’s car rolled to a stop. There were a few chickens strutting about, a dog laying on the porch curled up with what looked to be a baby goat and a baby sh

Kinsley walked beside Deidra as the two ventured closer to the trees bordering Deidra’s land. The forest was heavy and dense, with hardly any sunlight peeking through the trees. The clearing Diedra had her property in was startlingly bright in comparison to the constant twilight that the surrounding trees lived in. Kinsley knew without a doubt that stepping into those trees was a one-way trip. She’d never be able to find her way out if she so much as stepped inside their shadowed cover. She stopped short as she felt a heavy presence lingering in the air ahead of them, it was low to the ground, almost coiled around something. It had the unmistakable feeling of death and violence like it was lying in wait for something. Deidra moved to keep going but Kinsley shot her hand out to halt her and crouched, putting her fingers to the soil while Deidra watched Kinsley curiously, her cat still in her arms, who was also watching closely. “Whatever attacked is still lingering, waiting to latch o

Kinsley paced in the lab, chewing her thumbnail and watching Weaver in concern. They sat looking over the pictures and all the notes Kinsley had taken during her meeting with Deidra in Danu Forest. Their face was dark and stormy, the energy coming off of them was full of turmoil, apprehension, and the one that made Kinsley sick with dread, and fear. If Weaver was scared then whatever was in Danu forest was very very bad indeed. “So what are we looking at Weaver?” Sawyer asked from his spot on the stairs. When Kinsley got the pictures and the notes from him for Weaver to look at he could tell something was wrong. So despite his sister's protests he hauled himself to Weaver’s lab and sat on the stairs, his legs having given up before he got further into the room. “Nothing good that's for sure. This magic is ancient, and so very angry to be trapped. It would have tried to consume you Kins, feed off everything you are and leave you a husk once it was done. Right now it's too unpredictabl
