CHAPTER 68

Emma's POV

I pulled up to the school, excited to pick up the triplets. It had been a long day, and I was looking forward to spending some quality time with them. But as they climbed into the car, I noticed something was off.

All three of them had scowls on their faces, their eyes cast downward. I exchanged greetings with each of them, but the responses were monosyllabic.

"Hey, guys! How was your day?" I asked, trying to sound cheerful.

Lucien grunted, Camilla murmured "fine," and Rosaline merely nodded.

I wondered what I had done wrong this time. Had I forgotten something important? Had I not attended a school event? I racked my brain, but couldn't think of anything.

As we drove home, the silence was oppressive. I tried again to engage them in conversation.

"Did anything interesting happen today? Any tests or quizzes?"

Camilla shrugged. "Nope."

Rosaline stared out the window. "I'm fine, Mum."

Lucien remained silent, his eyes fixed on his phone.
