CHAPTER 52

April's POV

I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as I lay in bed, listening to the silence of the house. It was as if the walls were watching me, waiting for me to uncover their secrets.

I thought about Emma and Gabe, wondering if they'd finally talked things through. They'd been distant for so long, and it was affecting all of us.

As I tossed and turned, my mind wandered to Augustine. He'd been acting strange lately, always disappearing at odd hours. I had a feeling he was hiding something, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Just as I was starting to drift off to sleep, I heard a faint noise coming from outside my room. It sounded like whispers, but I couldn't make out what was being said.

I threw off my covers and crept out of bed, my heart racing with anticipation. Who was whispering, and what were they saying?
