Wade crouched behind a wall, a gun strapped to his side. He looked opposite to where his friend and assistant, Mark was and motioned for him to follow him.
"Are you sure this is the correct place? I hope we don't get our brains blasted off," Mark grumbled while loading bullets into his gun.
"What are you talking about? We have the advantage of sneak attack here," Wade said rather arrogantly.
"Your fighting skills are better than mine. No wonder you can boast," Mark replied matter of factly.
Wade ushered Mark and two more men dressed in police uniforms to follow him into the building.
Within seconds, gunshots were fired, bullets whizzed through the air in a deadly fight.
The air smelt of gunpowder and the metallic scent of blood was noticeable. In the dark night, the place was eerily quiet except for a nightclub that was blaring lights and music in the distance.
Wade would have much preferred to put his feet up by the fireplace and munch on a bag of Lays but unfortunately, something terrible happened.
"If it wasn't for proving myself to that old man, I wouldn't be here," Wade mumbled under his breath, thinking back to when he gave up the position of CEO to become a mere police officer.
Suddenly a bullet whizzed narrowly missed his head and hit the metal bar behind him.
"Chief, we have been detected!" One police officer called out.
"Well, shit. We have a rat," Wade smiled calmly. He counted one to three before he came out of his hiding spot and spun around, putting bullets into the legs of the people who were approaching them silently.
Cries and groans were heard as Wade calmly took them all down in a flash. Mark was struggling to keep up with him.
"Whenever it comes to busting criminals, the boss sure has extra energy," Mark mumbled under his breath.
"Did you see our man?!" Wade yelled.
"There's too much bullet! I can't find him!" Mark yelled back.
"Wade!" Mark cried out and pointed to one of their men who got shot in the leg.
"Cover me!" Wade dodged an oncoming bullet, grabbed the injured officer by the collar and quickly pulled him to safety.
Many minutes later, the sound of a siren could be heard from outside the building. The gang members were stunned and shocked! The building had been surrounded by the police in a matter of seconds.
"Put your weapon down. You have been surrounded. Any attempt to fight back would be seen as a threat and shall be taken care of immediately!" A man thundered on a loudspeaker. The gang members had no choice but to drop their weapons and put their hands up.
Wade walked towards the man with the loudspeaker as many cops rushed out from their vehicles and quickly apprehended the criminals.
"Wade!"
"Sargent Baxter! Good to see you!" Wade smiled gleefully.
"These are small criminals. But nevertheless, good job! Where is the suspect that was caught on camera?" Baxter asked, giving him a questioning look.
"Oh, yes.... Now I remember," With that, Wade quickly ran off in the opposite direction. He was too caught up with catching the criminals that he had forgotten about the main reason he was here.
Wade ran to the backdoor as quickly as he could, the wind pounced on his face as he kicked the metal door open.
He lifted the gun to his eye and fired a bullet, shooting accurately at a sports car's tyre. The sportscar made a sudden turn and crashed into the bush.
In the next second, a gun was pointed at the driver. Wade casually wiped his sweat with his sleeve and grinned.
"Sir, come with me. I have some questions for you," He placed a hand onto the man's shoulders.
"S...sir, please I don't know anything! I'm not involved!"
"We have evidence. You are charged for the missing case of Edward Mattson, CEO of Mattson group. You have the rights to remain silent and the rights to a lawyer,"
In the police station.
"These guys are from the Domino Gang. They may be a small gang but I heard that they had a powerful figure backing them up," Mark spoke to Baxter as they stood in front of the interrogation room where the suspect sat without saying a word.
"Where's the suspect?" Wade walked into the police station and asked. A few female cops drooled at the sight of his handsome appearance and muscular arms.
Mark pointed to the interrogation room. "He's not saying anything,"
"Boss, you have a visitor," one female officer said and smiled sweetly at Wade.
"I'm jealous. Why do you have to be so popular with girls?" Mark said enviously with a sulking expression.
"What can I say, I'm charming," Wade laughed and went to his office where a middle aged man was waiting for him.
The man, upon seeing him striding towards him. The man was dressed in an exquisite suit and carried an aura of a nobility.
"Father," Wade greeted him as politely as he could.
"Well, what have you found after running around with a bunch of insolent people you called your trusted partners?" His father, Henry spoke with disdain.
Wade smiled as if he didn't hear him insult his comrades. "We have found the suspect who was with your business partner before he went missing. I believe this case will come to end soon,"
"Heh! Come to an end? Do you think it's that easy, Wade? You have three days! Three days! If Edward Mattson doesn't come to the meeting, the deal between the two companies will be forfeited and the loss will be huge! Can you take responsibility for that?! " Henry sneered, eyes burning with rage.
Apparently the father and son were estranged and often at loggerheads with each other. Henry wanted Wade to take over the company and become the next CEO, but Wade refused and chose to become a cop. Thus choosing to start his own career by doing a low paying job. Because of that, Henry was taunted and mocked by his friends and business rivals for having a useless son.
And by doing so, Wade had failed his father's expectations and caused the old man to swallow his pride.
"Your grandfather is looking for you!" Henry said angrily before he left.
Why was his grandfather looking for him?
Suddenly, Mark burst through his office door, panic written in his eyes before Wade had time to think about his grandfather.
"Boss, the suspect....."
"Boss, the suspect is dead!" "Dead!?" Wade quickly rushed to the interrogation room where a doctor tried to perform an emergency rescue. "An ambulance is on the way!" A female officer shouted from behind. Everyone was panicking, doing their best to save the suspect. However, after two minutes, the doctor sighed and shook his head at them. The doctor wiped his sweat and said, "Looks like he died of a heart attack. I'm sorry, Wade,""A heart attack? How did this happen?! Aren't you all on watch!?" Wade turned to the cops who were on duty, furious. The young cops swallowed and glanced at the floor wordlessly. "Chief, our rescue response was very fast. Doctor Howard was here within seconds yet he couldn't save the suspect," Mark tried to intercede for the young cops. He motioned for them to retreat. Whenever the chief was angry, the whole room would be swept into a glacier, cold and scary. "I'm not angry over that. Our lead have been cut off again!" Wade was close to gnashing his te
Somehow, Wade felt like his actions were being watched. He looked around, scanning the nightclub but couldn't find anything. No one dares to walk into Castello like it was a supermarket. Castello was where crime and murder were a common thing. You could never know what tomorrow brings.Even the FBI didn't dare to do anything against the Mafia. Ever since Wade took office, he had dedicated all his time to wiping out criminals.Maybe he was overthinking. As soon as he stepped into the nightclub, there was a strange uneasy feeling in his chest. Mark struck up a conversation with a girl and they began talking happily. The real reason Wade wanted to come here was because he was looking for someone. The previous chief had gave him information that they had a spy in Castello whom he could contact to help find Edward Mattson. The spy had sent an anonymous text message to meet him in this nightclub. Wade figured that it would be better to meet with this spy than go straight to the pharmacy.
"Uh…." Wade was speechless. Was this guy flirting with him?Mark came to his side and nudged Wade from behind, reminding him of their mission. "Thank you for saving my friend. We need to go. It's very late," Mark made up an excuse and tried to signal to Wade with his eyes. Something was wrong. Wade took heed of it and thanked the man again before heading to the door. "You're welcome. Come back again next time. What's your name?" The man asked, his eyes scanning Wade up and down lazily. "Wade," "Wade…." The way his name sounded off this mysterious man's lips sent a tingle up Wade's body. "Nice name. I could say it all day," the man chuckled, his dark eyes gazing at him intensely.Wade laughed awkwardly. No one had ever said such a thing to him. This man was probably just fooling around with him. Once they were out, Wade asked Mark about his findings. "The whole bar is creeping with crazy criminals. We were lucky we didn't get killed! That cute girl said she saw Edward Mattson f
"Ahhh! Who the hell are yo-" Wade jumped in fright. But when he saw the person who said it, he calmed down. When he saw the man looking at him with a smug expression, Wade quickly made an excuse. "I'm lost. S…so I'm looking for the exit,""Didn't you leave here hours ago? Why are you back again… ?" The man closed in on Wade, pausing in his sentence to scan Wade's clothing. "In a waiter's uniform?"Wade knew that his excuse has failed. What was he going to say? Was his identity blown? "Missed me that much?" The mysterious man smirked. "I..I..," Wade stuttered. With the way the man was looking at him, it looked as if he wanted to eat Wade up. "Why don't you guess what's my purpose here?" Wade decided to play it smart. From the looks of it, the mysterious man wasn't a simple person either. He could enter the highest floor of the nightclub and mingle with people like John Brandon, Wade began to suspect his identity. "Oh, let me guess then. Is there a prize if I guess it correctly?"
"My name is Vincenzo Luciano,"Luciano??!! T..that Luciano??!! He was actually the world's….Wade felt goosebumps crawling up his skin. Vincenzo Luciano, the world's most powerful and wanted criminal, the enigmatic Mafia King, the one who has many gangs working under him, the one whom the FBI and Interpol don't dare to touch, that Vincenzo Luciano?Double shit! Wade only knew one thing at this moment. He was screwed! In his head, Wade was cursing himself for being stupid and clumsy. How could he not know that was Vincenzo Luciano?! This Luciano guy was the one the previous police chief and FBI had been trying to catch. So this was the big criminal that everyone failed to catch? If he could catch him and put him behind bars, then at least half the world would be rid of crime. The man laughed, amusement in his dark eyes. "Officer, you have fallen into my trap. Whatcha gonna do?" Vincenzo continue to let his fingers trailed down Wade's back.Wade shivered, his stomach squeezing on it
The whole place was plunged into darkness. Wade could still hear the panicky cries of the bar goers, chaotic footsteps and what seemed like people knocking over furniture. What was more important was that he couldn't hear him. He couldn't hear Vincenzo Luciano. His eyes slowly adjusted to the dark, squinting as he tried to detect Vincenzo. However in the next second just as he detected him, Wade's mouth was covered by a large hand and he was pulled into the darkness, until his back hit the wall. Wade gasped. He pulled the hand away from his mouth and scolded, "Hey! Luciano, no games here! If you want to fight, let's do it fair and square. Attacking me in the dark, what kind of gentleman are you?"By now, Wade's eyes have fully adjusted to the dark. He saw Vincenzo Luciano standing in front of him. Wade was cautious, on high alert. What was Vincenzo up to and who was the one shooting in the bar? "Fair and square? You lot aren't what you preach. Hypocrite," Vincenzo said in a low vo
"So you liked to be cuffed," Vincenzo smirked. Why did that sound so weird and something like those seen in BDSM practices? Wade wanted to punch that smirk off his face. "You have weird ideas. Behind you!" Wade snatched up a bottle and flung it at an assassin who was creeping up behind Vincenzo. "You saved me. I didn't expect that," Vincenzo gave the knocked out assassin a casual glance as if it wasn't a threat at all. "No, you did it on purpose. You probably want me to save your ass so that you'll claim I'm your accomplice and send me to jail, won't it?" "You think too lowly of me," Wade didn't enjoy how their conversation always ended up going in circles. What a smarty pants, Wade snorted inwardly. "Then why don't you kill me, put an end to me? I've seen you and I'm not going to let criminals go scot-free in front of my eyes," Wade said."Killing you is too easy. I rather....," Vincenzo walked towards Wade. This time Wade didn't retreat. He stood his ground and glared straig
"Sure," Wade smiled, brushing aside his hair. The wind blew around them, parting Vincenzo's hair to one side that it fell over his face in a messy style. The look he had, however, made Wade felt like he couldn't take his eyes off the man standing before him. Wade had a sudden urge to reach out and brush the hair off Vincenzo's forehead. But Wade resisted that stupid impulsive urge and turned to leave, forcing his eyes to look away from that bastard."In jail," Wade added and strode off, disappearing into the dark. He watched as the police officer disappeared from sight, admiring his figure. He wasn't mistaken. It was him. After Wade left, Vincenzo wiped the corner of his lips and looked down at his fingers. There was some blood but he didn't mind. He chuckled to himself. That police chief was the most interesting one he had ever met. The next morning, Wade woke up from his short sleep and checked his phone. Mark had sent him some text messages about the case. He had gotten all the
Wade came home, carrying a few bags of groceries. He dumped everything into the fridge and went to search for Vincenzo."Hey, I’m going to cook dinner. Don’t blame me if you get diarrhea!" he called.Vincenzo emerged from upstairs, all dressed up in a suit. He fixed his tie and cuffs.Dressed like a businessman, Wade couldn’t keep his eyes off him. Even in proper clothing, Vincenzo was hot as fuck."Let’s skip the cooking. Go on a date,""Well, I’ve never been out on a proper date," Wade said, suddenly feeling nervous."Then it’s a first. Get dressed up. I’m not in the mood for diarrhea tonight,"Wade realized that he didn’t have many clothes. All he had were normal T-shirts and sweaters—nothing attractive or matching with Vincenzo. They were indeed worlds apart.H
After stitching Vincenzo up, Marianna gave some instructions on how to care for his wound. She made sure Wade jotted them down.Wade had a notepad and pen in his hands. He followed her back and forth while she spoke, as if she were giving a lecture in class."He has a tendency to split open his wounds before they heal. Keep an eye on your boyfriend. Oh, and," she pulled Wade to the side and whispered, "He likes—"She patted his shoulders and headed toward the door. "Don’t need to see me out. I know the door very well.""You seem close," Wade said. He watched her leave and decided he might like this doctor."She’s the gang doctor, coming over every now and then when one of us cracks a bone," Vincenzo explained."I’m going to order some takeout," Wade said.Perhaps one day he should learn how to cook. The food arrive
"Shit! What a perfect way to wipe out all the evidence," He was sure that by the next morning, there would be news claiming a gas spill or someone smoking at the factory had caused it to blow up. His gaze fell on Vincenzo's injured arm. Fuck, Vincenzo needed medical attention right away.Wade didn’t dare take him to the hospital for fear of being recognized. So he brought him back home and looked for the first aid kit."Where’s the damn kit?""I don’t know.""What?! You’re bleeding out here, and you don’t even know where it is?!""How would I know? I’ve never been shot many times before. I was always careful," Vincenzo shrugged weakly. Wade looked away from him, guilt creeping into his chest. Careful. Until he met me."I’m calling the doc," Wade said, frustration spilling out. His boyfriend was bleeding out, and yet he was so damn calm. Honestly, things like death freaked Wade out. They made him feel powerless and useless—a feeling he hated and despised."No.""Yes. We are calling the
Wade never expected that the man who had taught him this and that since the day he joined the police turned out to be the one behind all of this. Then what was the relationship between them? Did Bennett count it as nothing but a façade?Memories of him and Bennett laughing, celebrating, and drinking together resurfaced. Wade didn’t know what to make of it. Bennett was clean! Spotless! Wasn’t his record clear as day?! How could this have happened? As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he knew that he had been lied to and cheated by Bennett. He was used and made a fool of. Anger swelled in his chest, but he could only swallow it down. Now, his lover’s life was on the line. Benefits. What benefits did Dominic offer him?If Bennett was here, then their lives were in huge trouble. It was possible that Dominic was on the way. What did Bennett have to do with Gordon? Vincenzo wondered."What are you to Gordon?" Vincenzo asked.Bennett had a cocky look as he looked him over."Want to know? I
Wasn’t that Bennett’s voice? But what was he doing here? Undercover like him?Vincenzo froze. His hand tightened its hold on Wade’s, reluctant to let go. However, Wade pulled his hand out of Vincenzo’s."Who are you?" Wade asked, caution laced in his tone. Vincenzo gripped the knife hidden underneath his jacket."Wade?" Bennett was surprised. Wade turned around and came face-to-face with the old chief."Bennett, why are you here?!" From surprise to shock to happiness flashed across his eyes.Bennett’s eyes floated over to Vincenzo, and they widened in fear. He raised his gun at Vincenzo, scowling."Wait, no! He's with me. Bennett, please put your gun down," Wade stood between them, a hand reached out to calm Bennett down."Isn’t he in prison? What the fuck is he doing here?!" Bennett glared at Vincenzo.
"Isn't that true?" Wade cocked an eyebrow."Untrue," Vincenzo grabbed him and pressed him against the wall."Shit, what are you doing? Not here! Why can't you keep your hands to yourself?""Says the one who has been seducing me right from the start," Vincenzo breathed against Wade's cheeks and ears, causing his heart to jump wildly in his chest."Honeydew, I can order you around as much as I want, and you're gonna listen, is that clear?"Wade took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. Vincenzo always had some kind of magical effect on him. Every time he was near, it made him feel like he could drop everything he was doing and rush to him, hold him, hug him, and stay with him."In private, yes. But I'll bite, and you don't want to know how hard I can bite," Wade said, warning him. However, Vincenzo looked pleased. "Then bite me. Bite me
They crept together into the factory."Are we working together, or...""Don’t disturb me, or ruin my plans," Wade said."I think you’d better return," Vincenzo latched onto his wrist."Why?""It’s dangerous, I don’t want you to get hurt."Wade jerked his hand out of Vincenzo’s grip and glared at him."I’m doing this,""You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone anymore. I know you’re capable, baby. Your father doesn’t appreciate you, but I do,"Hearing that, tears stung his eyes. Wade took a deep breath."It’s not about proving myself to anyone. It’s about justice,""Are you sure?""We can work together," Wade nodded."Huh, pretty coming out of your
"Are you okay? I haven't been able to get in touch with you," Jessica said, looking worried. She watched Wade paced the room back and forth, reading heaps of files."I'm doing fine. Just busy.""You're always busy. Your cousin Nicholas came over and said hi.""Oh, what else did he say? Badmouth me behind my back?""No. He talked about the meetings and the board of directors. He doesn’t want the CEO seat," Jessica said. "That’s a lot of money sitting there. Plus, your father’s getting old. He’s desperate for a successor. It’s a family business after all."Wade stopped in his tracks and sighed. "Are you asking me to go back?""Why would I? That’s up to you. I was just thinking if the two of you could sit down peacefully and not claw at each other’s throats. But it looks impossible. I’m not going to bother ab
"Oh really? How did you know that?" Vincenzo was surprised."I was wondering why the drugs in the city have gotten lower than before. I called Francesca and asked her. Thanks, Vincenzo," Wade said, looking touched."No need to thank me, amado. Everything I do is for you.""Why did you become a cop? Is it solely because of your mother?""Because I fucking hate crimes," Wade replied."But I do crime," Vincenzo said, casting a complicated look at him.."Crime, not you," Wade said. How could he hate the man who took away his pain, picked him up when he was at his lowest moment, and gave him the warmth he craved?"Then why did you become a Mafia member?""It runs in the family. I don’t get to choose where or when I was born,""If you had a chance, would you still choose to become a Mafia me
