I'm not worth it

“Greetings Mother,” Killian said, ignoring the question she had asked.

I looked between the both of them, unsure of what to do, or say. When Killian touched my hand slightly, a signal, I knew I had to show my respect too

“Greetings ma'am,” I said, sounding as polite as I could. She ignored my greeting, picking up her tea cup and taking a sip from it.

I waited in silence for her to drink to her heart's content.

“Is this the girl you're getting married to?” She asked, setting the cup down. “I thought you were getting married to that girl, the daughter of Mr. Athanas”

I could hear her displeasure for me in her voice, her bright red lips still turned into an ugly frown.

Mrs. Lexington was a middle-aged woman, she had light wrinkles on her face and her dark hair was tied into a tight bun at the top of her hair.

I could smell her expensive perfume from where we stood, and I couldn't help but wrinkle my nose. It was too strong.

“You must be talking about my younger sister,” I started, her piercing eyes turned to me, cutting me off immediately.

“Did I ask you to speak?” She asked, her nose upturned as she stared glaring at me. Her looks tell me that she thought of me as nothing else than dirt underneath her shoes.

“Ruelle is my fiancee, I request you talk to her with respect,” Killian said, pushing his wheelchair closer.

Mrs. Lexington looked at Killian who was sitting close to the table and looked at me, slowly she picked up her teacup, her eyes shining with evil.

She clicked her wrist and the hot liquid splashed on Killian's leg.

“Killian!” I cried, killing him away. Taking a cloth from the table, I immediately clean his legs with it.

“Why are you bothered? He's crippled, he can't feel anything,” The old hag said, staring at me with a blank look

My fingers dug into my palm as I glared at her in anger. How can someone be so evil?

I had never felt so angry in my life. When Eileen accused me of doing things I didn't, I took it. When she stole from me, I still took it. But what I can't take, is she treating Killian however she wanted.

“Don't look at me like that. You might be Killian's fiance, but you are still dirt.” She said coldly. When I kept glaring at her, she grabbed the walking stick that was lying beside her.

“Ruelle it's okay,” Killian said but I still didn't lower my gaze. He stretched his hands out, searching for where I was.

“Keep your eyes down!” She ordered, raising the stick and striking my back. I ignored the pain I felt, still glaring at her.

Her grip on her stick tightened and she raised it one more time.

“Ruelle!” Killian growled in anger. He reached for me immediately, pulling me to him.

I turned to look at Killian, and for some reason I had tears glistening in my eyes.

“It's not worth it,” He said lowly.

What he really meant to say was that he wasn't worth it. Wasn't worth getting hurt for.

“The next time you look me in the eye, you’ll be going blind just like your husband,” she hissed, pushing to her feet.

For some reason, Killian kept his grip on me, holding me tightly as if he was afraid I'd do something.

I stared at his face while he stared straight on, unable to see anything.

“Keep your dog on a leash,” Mrs. Lexington said, her words directed at Killian.

I turned around just to watch her walk away, noticing a limp in her steps.

“Shouldn't you be going to school today?” Killian asked coldly, pushing his wheelchair around.

“Yes, but I can go later,” I said, walking to him and helping him push the chair.

We both remained silent as I pushed him forward.

When I got to the door of our room, his driver was there already, standing at the entrance.

“Oh, you're still here?” He asked in surprise when he saw me, looking between Killian and me.

I was already getting late for school, and I needed to leave fast.

“We'd drop her off on our way,” Killian said.

After we both prepared to leave, I helped Killian into the car with the aid of his driver.

The drive to school was quiet and for some reason, I found it uncomfortable.

“Would you be able to pick me up from school?” I asked when we got to the school gate. Killian didn't reply and I nodded my head slowly.

I looked out the window to see Eileen standing by the gate side.

She kept staring at the car to see who was in it, not even bothering to be conspicuous at all.

I couldn't blame her, this kind of car was expensive and you could only be among the top-grade families to own it.

I'm even surprised that they let Killian drive it.

“I'd be going now,” I said, even though I didn't expect an answer from him.

Killian was acting colder and I wondered if it was because of what had happened today.

Sighing, I pushed the door open, slamming it shut immediately to prevent Eileen from seeing who was inside.

She looked surprised to see me coming out of the car, she looked between the car and me, and I could see her turn green with envy.

Yes bitch, that's right. Burn!

“Sister, whose car was that?” Eileen asked immediately, coming to me.

She moved to hold me but I pushed her away from me.

“Don't even think of touching me,” I growled to her and she frowned deeply.

“Sister, don't be like that. You're getting married soon. You shouldn't just get into people's cars. What if someone sees and thinks you're having an affair?” She asked.

It sounded as if she was worried for me and only looking out for me, but I knew better than that.

“Then let them think,” I didn't bother stopping, walking into the school.

Eileen walked after me, walking faster than usual to keep my pace.

“But whose car was that? I know it's not Killain's because he is broke. Are you cheating already?” Her voice was loud when she asked that, making everyone within the vicinity turn and stare at me.

I stopped in my tracks, whipping around to face her

I was tired of her already.

“Look, Eileen. It's better you mind your business..” I trailed off when I saw her lips quiver and her eyes red.

She stared at me like I had said something to hurt her, making me confused.

Someone grabbed my arm from behind, turning me around.

“Ruelle, when would you stop bothering Eileen?” Gabriel asked and my eyes darkened with anger.

I pulled my arm out of his grip, stepping away from him.

“Either get your eyes checked or your brain,” I hissed.

I stepped away from them, going to my class. I was just outside the door when someone called me, making me turn around.

“You're requested to come to the Director's office,’’ The student said to me.

Without giving me a chance to ask why, she turned around and walked off.

Left with no choice, I followed after her, walking quietly to the director's office.

The moment I pushed the door open, I looked around to see the director sitting behind his table.

There was another man in his room, and Anslem, the classmate I had hit yesterday was sitting with a smug look on his face.

“Is this the girl that hit my son?!” The unknown man barked. The moment the director's head bobbed, my face turned to the side, my cheek stinging.
