Alison

Damien and I sat in the living room, the next day. While Hugh stood near a whiteboard, cigarette in hand, with a firm expression on his face.

The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor.

Damien leaned back, eyeing the board. “I really want to know how you got that board.”

Hugh exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Can we just focus on the plan?”

Damien shrugged. “I’m just saying, it’s a little much.”

Hugh rolled his eyes. “Noted but I’m not going to do anything about it.”

Damien furrowed his eyebrows but Hugh seemed not to notice.

He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray.

“Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.”

I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.”

Hugh nodded. “Good. Anyway, I intend to keep this plan simple. We are just going to give Aiden a taste of his own medicine.”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

Hugh smirked, glancing at Damien. “Aiden used you to spy on Damien and We’re going to do the same.”

“So you want me to spy on Aiden?”

Hugh nodded. “I’m glad you’re catching up.”

Damien’s face darkened instantly. “That doesn’t sound like a good idea.”

Hugh scoffed. “You’re letting your emotions take over again.”

Damien’s jaw tightened. “I’m being logical.”

“She’ll be safe,” Hugh assured him.

“This isn’t about being safe,” Damien shot back. “Gemma already told Aiden about Alison and me. He knows there’s something between us. If she shows up at his doorstep, he won’t trust her. He might even try to kill her.”

Hugh hesitated, tapping the cigarette against the ashtray again. “You have a point.”

I folded my arms. “There’s also something else that needs to be considered .”

Both men looked at me.

I took a breath. “Damien saving me has already made Aiden aware that I know he probably orchestrated the whole attack .” I glanced at Damien. “He’s not dumb, he will surely know I came to spy on him or I am working for Damien if I show up.”

Hugh cursed under his breath, running a hand through his hair. “Well, that messes things up but—“

Damien cut Hugh off. “The plan won’t work, Hugh. There are too many holes.”

Hugh didn’t look convinced. He went quiet for a while then he spoke up.

“You’re not thinking about this from Aiden’s perspective.” He turned back to the board, grabbed a marker, and scribbling quickly.

He drew a stick figure labeled Aiden and another labeled Damien.

Damien sighed. “Can you just explain without the damn board?”

Hugh chuckled. “I’m trying to make this fun and interactive.”

Damien shot him a glare.

“Fine.” Hugh tossed the marker to the floor and sank into the chair beside us.

Then he leaned forward, placing his elbows on his knees. “The key is making Aiden believe he’s still in control.”

I frowned. “How?”

Hugh smirked. “By making him believe you’re on his side again.”

I tensed. “That won’t be easy especially because of everything he knows.”

“Listen,” Hugh continued. “You’ll act like you have no idea that Aiden is the real enemy. You’ll let him that yes Damien had told you, he had kidnapped you, and that he is trying to hurt you—but that you don’t believe Damien. You feel Damien is trying to get you to turn on him.”

I bit my lip, considering it.

“More importantly,” Hugh added, “you’ll make him believe that you’ve got Damien wrapped around your little finger. That he saved you because he’s in love with you, and that you can make him do whatever you want.”

Damien stiffened beside me. “And what exactly would Aiden do with that information?”

Hugh smirked. “Use it to his advantage. He’ll think he can use her to get to you. He wouldn’t want to kill her because he would see her as an asset.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. “And while doing that, I gather intel.”

Hugh nodded. “According to some information I gathered when I came to the city Aiden is working on something big, and it has to do with politics. If we can find out what, we’ll have leverage.”

Damien let out a low whistle. “Damn. That’s actually brilliant.”

I exhaled slowly. “One problem—how do I get back into Aiden’s life ? I can’t just show up that would look suspicious.”

Hugh grinned. “That’s where I come in.”

Damien’s shoulders tensed again.

“We’re going to use my past grudge against you to our advantage,” Hugh said. “We’ll make it look like I still hate you like I was trying to make Damien see you were up to no good. And when he didn’t listen…” He paused dramatically. “I kidnapped you.”

I raised a brow. “And?”

“You escape,” Hugh smirked. “I chase you through the city until you end up at Aiden’s mansion.”

Damien’s brows furrowed. “And then?”

Hugh took a long drag of his cigarette. “I shoot you.”

Damien shot up from his seat. “Absolutely not.”

I clenched my jaw. “No, wait—this could work.”

Damien turned to me, eyes burning. “Are you insane? You want him to shoot you?”

Hugh shrugged. “Aiden won’t believe you ran back to him unless you’re in real danger. It has to be convincing.”

Damien crossed his arms. “And what if your plan goes south and she dies?”

Hugh rolled his eyes. “I’ll be nearby. If no one comes for her, I’ll take her away before it’s too late.”

Damien wasn’t convinced. “This is reckless.”

Hugh exhaled. “We don’t have any better options.”

Damien hissed.

“You need to get rid of your doubts Damien.” Hugh said. “things would fall in place and she will be fine.”

Damien grunted and Hugh ignored him.

He stood on his feet. “So before we can proceed with our plan I need to check in with my intel. I need to know where Aiden is and his movement this would help us a lot.”

During that moment Hugh’s phone rang.

“speak of the devil. “ he said, mouthing an excuse me before he left to answer the call.

Damien grunted once again as he turned to look at me.

“I don’t like it.” He scoffed.

“What?”

“The plan. It’s too risky.”

I reached out, touching his arm. “We don’t have a choice.”

He turned to me, his eyes searching mine. “I don’t want to lose you.”

“You won’t.” I squeezed his hand.

Damien sighed, then slowly leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my head.

At that exact second, Hugh walked back in.

“Well, well,” Hugh drawled, smirking. “If you two are done with your little romance scene, I’ve got the news.”

We both pulled away quickly.

Hugh tossed his cigarette into the ashtray and crossed his arms. “I got all the intel we need.”

Damien’s jaw clenched. “And?”

Hugh’s smirk deepened. “We execute the plan tomorrow evening.”

Damien was about to speak but I shot him an assuring gaze and that seemed to keep him quiet but I could still see the worrisome look in his eyes.

Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

Author’s note: This book is dedicated to all the girls who love mafia men. “I wouldn’t have gotten married to you if I knew you were nothing but a cheat!” Aiden screamed. He grabbed my arm, yanking me backward with a force that sent me crashing into the cold wall. “Aiden, please,” I sobbed, my voice trembling as I slid down the wall onto my knees. “I don’t know what happened! I swear, I—” “Don’t you dare lie to me!” Aiden cut me off, his finger pointed at me like a dagger. “I caught you, in bed with another man. What could you possibly say to defend that? Huh?” “Aiden, I… I don’t remember…” “Stop!” he roared, stepping back as if my presence disgusted him. “I don’t want to hear it!” I crawled toward him, grabbing at his pant leg desperately. “Please, Aiden. Don’t do this. Let me explain—” Aiden shook me off, turning to flash me a cold look. “Save your breath. You’ve destroyed everything. No form of explanation would make things better.” With that, he stormed out of the hote

If there’s something else I could do…”“Alison!” He called my name and I wondered why until he spoke up again. “Do you want the bouncer to throw you out? Because I wouldn’t hesitate to tell them that you tried to do something shady.”I sighed. I couldn’t get thrown out. I needed to see Adam. He was the only one who could save me from sleeping on the streets.“Are you going to do what I ask or should I call the bouncer?” I was trapped. I just had to do it.“Okay what do you want me to steal?” I said and a smirk popped up on his lips. It could be mistaken for a smile because of the way his eyes radiated.“You see that man over there with the hat. Alison“Where are we going?” I finally asked, breaking the silence. We had been driving for hours, heading down the path that led out of the city. I was beginning to feel uneasy. The stranger’s dark eyes flicked to me in the rearview mirror. “The Highlands,” he said simply. “The Highlands?” I asked.“My home,” he added, offering no further explanation. Finally we pulled into a long, winding driveway. Guards were stationed outside, and they bowed their hands when he stepped out.“Damien!” A man called out walking in our direction, and I saw the stranger look his way.‘So that was his name?’ I thought to myself. “I thought you were dead,” The man continued. “You didn’t pick up my calls or reply to my messages.” “I had things to handle.” Damien said, in a firm tone. The man’s brows furrowed. “By things, you mean a bimbo?” He jerked his head in my direction, his scornful gaze raking over me. “The girl isn’t the reason I disappeared for days Hugh,” Damien replied evenly. “Our path

Alison I stared at Damien in disbelief. “You heard what I said.” His voice was cold, and his eyes distance. “Take off those clothes.” “I can’t.” I replied. “I don’t want to…” The cold calculating looking on his face faded, and a smirk popped up. “Do you think I want to fuck you?” I didn’t say anything I just stared at him. He chucked. “You’re not my type, Alison.” I noticed as he pulled out a red dress, handing it over to me. “Wear it or I will have to strip you down myself, and drape it over your head.” He said. I collected the dress, and Damien gave me a warm look. “Good girl.” “If I do this would I leave this place?” I asked ignoring his words. “Do you want to die?” He asked in a casual tone. I shook my head. “Then stop asking questions. You have one minute to get dressed. I will be waiting in the car.” He walked away leaving me alone, as I held the dress. I hated the fact that he was doing this. I got dressed quickly and when I got inside the car I asked Damien t

Damien ‘When did I become so weak?’ I muttered to myself as I watched as one of my men directed Alison out of the room. It was unlike me not to inflict punishment when need be. ‘What was wrong with me?’ “Damien!” The sound of my name being called caused me to pull myself out of my thoughts. I turned to see Gemma standing right in front of me. “Hugh has sent me to call you. He said he has something important to discuss.” “Tell him I would be there shortly.” I said to Gemma not giving her a second glance. My eyes were on Alison and the moment she was about to be directed down the corridor I shouted, gaining the attention of my men. “Bring her back.” I said. I saw Alison’s face change as I spoke. “Damien! Hugh has something really important to discuss.” Gemma spoke up again. I rolled my eyes, placing my gaze on Gemma. “Didn’t you hear what I said?” She nodded, and I placed my eyes back on Alison as I spoke. “Go deliver my message.” “You know she’s distracting you.” Gemma spo

Alison The moment I rolled to the other side of the bed and found out it was empty. I sat up, quickly.“Damien!” I said, after realizing he wasn’t by my side.‘Where did he go?’ I asked myself. He couldn’t be in the shower because I couldn’t hear the water running.I didn’t want to stay alone, so I threw the covers off my body and went to look for him as I made my way toward the door the voices I heard on the other side of the door stopped me in my tracks. It was Damien and Hugh. They happened to be arguing. I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices. “You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.” Hugh let ou

DamienThe minute I passed the sign that welcomed us to the city. I felt a bit relieved.I drove through the streets, with so much speed I couldn’t wait to get to my destination and relax. I was exhausted. When we finally pulled up to the house, I glanced at Alison. Her head was leaning against the window, her breathing soft and steady. She was barely keeping her eyes open. I reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Come on,” I murmured. “Let’s get you inside.”She stirred slightly but didn’t argue when I helped her out of the car. Her body clung to me like a second skin as I guided her up the stairs. The moment we stepped into the house, she mumbled something incoherent, already half-asleep. I smiled. “Alright, let’s get you to bed.”I led her to the bedroom, pulled back the covers, and eased her onto the mattress. She barely moved as I tucked her in. As I turned to leave, her hand shot out, gripping my wrist weakly. “Please can you stay with me?”“I’m not goin

AlisonThe car jerked to a sudden halt, jolting me from the haze of exhaustion that had settled over me. My body felt heavy, and sore from hours of being bound and blindfolded. The minute the car opened, I felt the cold air hit my face first, carrying with it the distant sound of passing vehicles. Were we on a main road? A city? Was this where I die, before I could process my thoughts, a firm hand gripped my arm. A second later, I felt the ropes around my wrists being yanked loose. Then the blindfold came off. I blinked rapidly as light flooded my vision. When I finally saw who was standing in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God…”I could barely get the words out. It was Damien. He had saved me.My body moved before I could think—I threw myself at him, my arms wrapping around his torso, holding onto him as if I needed proof that he was real.“Damien!” I finally woke.He let out a small chuckle, as he wrapped his arms around me. “Surprised?” he murmured

Alison I pulled my eyes open and I realized I was blindfolded. The black piece of clothing on my face made it difficult for me to see where I was and my wrists bound so tightly behind my back made it hard for me to take off the stupid blindfold. The only sounds I could make out were the low grunts of the men who were moving me around. Where were they taking me? And where was I?Suddenly I was dropped. Pain shot through my body as I hit the hard, cold floor. A groan slipped past my lips, but I barely had time to process the discomfort before the sound of heavy boots retreating filled the air. I swallowed, my throat dry. “Hello?” My voice wavered. “Who’s there?” There was no answer. The silence that followed made me realize I was all alone.I lay still, with my chest rising and falling with panicked breaths. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out the quiet. I had no idea where I was. And worse—I had no idea who had me. Regret churned in my stomach. I shouldn’t

Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I
