Alison

The moment I rolled to the other side of the bed and found out it was empty. I sat up, quickly.

“Damien!” I said, after realizing he wasn’t by my side.

‘Where did he go?’ I asked myself.

He couldn’t be in the shower because I couldn’t hear the water running.

I didn’t want to stay alone, so I threw the covers off my body and went to look for him as I made my way toward the door the voices I heard on the other side of the door stopped me in my tracks.

It was Damien and Hugh.

They happened to be arguing.

I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices.

“You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”

There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.”

Hugh let out a frustrated sigh. “Here you go again letting your emotions get the best of you. You know what, I’m done with trying to make you see how this is important maybe when we all die—“

“We are not going to die.” Damien cut him off.

“With the way things are going, we will,” Hugh said sharply. “I’m just going to prepare myself for death.”

“You don’t speak like this man,” Damien responded.

“I will speak to her okay, but like I have said before she needs time,” Damien countered.

I could hear the hesitation in his tone as if he was torn between agreeing and resisting.

Hugh scoffed. “Time? After everything she’s been through, do you think she’ll hesitate? She’s not stupid, Damien. She knows Aiden isn’t going to stop. She knows what needs to be done.”

I swallowed hard. They were talking about me.

Hugh coughed a rough, raspy sound, followed by the unmistakable flick of a lighter. He was smoking.

“Make sure you talk to her,” he muttered.

Then I heard his footsteps fade down the hall.

I could hear Damien’s footsteps too and I didn’t want to get caught eavesdropping, so I spun back toward the bed, trying to move quickly. But in my rush, my foot caught the edge of the rug, and I stumbled—falling hard onto the floor with a loud thud.

Shit.

A second later, the door swung open.

Damien stood in the doorway, eyes sweeping over me as I scrambled to sit up.

His brow was arched as he spoke. “You’re awake.”

I winced, brushing myself off. “Yeah. The minute I found out you left I woke up.”

His gaze sharpened. “I’m sorry I left you. I just couldn’t sleep, and I needed fresh air.”

“I understand,” I replied quickly.

“Are you sure? Because you were pretty —“

“It’s fine Damien,” I responded. “That should be the least of your worries right now. I will get over my feelings but I guess I can’t get over the fact that you are keeping something from me.”

I didn’t know when those words slipped from my mouth. Anyway, it was too late to take it back.

“What are you talking about?” Damien acted clueless. I didn’t know if he was pretending or the act was actually real.

“You’re aware of what I’m talking about Damien.”

Damien was quiet for a while then his eyes lit up. “You heard us.”

I folded my arms. “Yeah. So… what is it that Hugh wants you to tell me?”

Damien hesitated. I could see it in the way his expression shifted—the way his lips pressed together like he was debating whether or not to even answer.

I stepped closer, my voice firmer this time. “Please, just tell me.”

His dark eyes met mine. “Hugh wants you to help us take down Aiden.”

A wave of silence crashed over us.

My stomach twisted, and my hands clenched into fists at my sides.

Aiden.

His name alone sent a rush of emotions through me—anger, betrayal, grief, and fear.

Damien must’ve noticed the way my breathing changed, the way my body tensed because he moved closer to me.

“I told Hugh to give you time. You don’t have to decide right now.”

His voice trailed off, but I barely heard him. My mind was already spiraling.

Damien’s hand touched my arm, grounding me back to reality. I looked up at him, and he offered me a comforting smile.

“You don’t have to do this,” he said quietly. “I can tell Hugh you’re not interested.”

I shook my head. “Don’t.”

His brows furrowed. “Are you sure?”

I met his gaze. “Yeah. I want to help. I want to take Aiden down.”

Damien studied me, searching my face for any hesitation.

“You said you were scared. You don’t have to force yourself into this.”

“I’m still scared Damien, but if my help is important then I don’t mind helping.” Damien was about to speak but I beat him to it.

“After everything, Aiden did to me…” I swallowed hard. “After everything he did to us… he deserves to pay.”

Damien’s fingers brushed against mine before he slowly curled his hand into a fist. His jaw tensed as he nodded.

“Alright,” he murmured, in a dark tone. “Then we make him pay.”

I took a slow breath. “So What’s the plan?”

Damien exhaled, stepping back slightly. “There isn’t any plan yet but all I know is that we have to be careful. Aiden’s not going to let his guard down, especially not now. He thinks he has the upper hand.”

I frowned. “We are going to demolish his fucking ego.”

Damien shook his head. “Yeah.”

There wasn’t any drop of satisfaction in his tone and I figured something was off.

“You don’t sound too happy,” I said slowly.

“I just don’t want you to be involved in this.” He voiced out. “I want you safe.”

“You are going to be there by my side and you will keep me safe, just like you have always done,” I said calmly.

“Please don’t strip me of the opportunity to gain the revenge I desire,” I added.

Damien sighed. “Since you put it that way. I have no choice but to push away my worries aside and let you do this.”

“That’s the spirit.” I smiled.

Hugh’s words echoed in my head during that moment.

‘She wouldn’t hesitate to help us.’

He was right.

I wasn’t afraid anymore.

I was ready.

The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor. Damien leaned back, eyeing the board. “I really want to know how you got that board.” Hugh exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Can we just focus on the plan?” Damien shrugged. “I’m just saying, it’s a little much.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Noted but I’m not going to do anything about it.” Damien furrowed his eyebrows but Hugh seemed not to notice. He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray. “Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.” I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.” Hugh nodded. “Good. Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

Author’s note: This book is dedicated to all the girls who love mafia men. “I wouldn’t have gotten married to you if I knew you were nothing but a cheat!” Aiden screamed. He grabbed my arm, yanking me backward with a force that sent me crashing into the cold wall. “Aiden, please,” I sobbed, my voice trembling as I slid down the wall onto my knees. “I don’t know what happened! I swear, I—” “Don’t you dare lie to me!” Aiden cut me off, his finger pointed at me like a dagger. “I caught you, in bed with another man. What could you possibly say to defend that? Huh?” “Aiden, I… I don’t remember…” “Stop!” he roared, stepping back as if my presence disgusted him. “I don’t want to hear it!” I crawled toward him, grabbing at his pant leg desperately. “Please, Aiden. Don’t do this. Let me explain—” Aiden shook me off, turning to flash me a cold look. “Save your breath. You’ve destroyed everything. No form of explanation would make things better.” With that, he stormed out of the hote

If there’s something else I could do…”“Alison!” He called my name and I wondered why until he spoke up again. “Do you want the bouncer to throw you out? Because I wouldn’t hesitate to tell them that you tried to do something shady.”I sighed. I couldn’t get thrown out. I needed to see Adam. He was the only one who could save me from sleeping on the streets.“Are you going to do what I ask or should I call the bouncer?” I was trapped. I just had to do it.“Okay what do you want me to steal?” I said and a smirk popped up on his lips. It could be mistaken for a smile because of the way his eyes radiated.“You see that man over there with the hat. I was beginning to feel uneasy. The stranger’s dark eyes flicked to me in the rearview mirror. “The Highlands,” he said simply. “The Highlands?” I asked.“My home,” he added, offering no further explanation. Finally we pulled into a long, winding driveway. Guards were stationed outside, and they bowed their hands when he stepped out.“Damien!” A man called out walking in our direction, and I saw the stranger look his way.‘So that was his name?’ I thought to myself. “I thought you were dead,” The man continued. “You didn’t pick up my calls or reply to my messages.” “I had things to handle.” Damien said, in a firm tone. The man’s brows furrowed. “By things, you mean a bimbo?” He jerked his head in my direction, his scornful gaze raking over me. “The girl isn’t the reason I disappeared for days Hugh,” Damien replied evenly. “Our path

Alison I stared at Damien in disbelief. “You heard what I said.” His voice was cold, and his eyes distance. “Take off those clothes.” “I can’t.” I replied. “I don’t want to…” The cold calculating looking on his face faded, and a smirk popped up. “Do you think I want to fuck you?” I didn’t say anything I just stared at him. He chucked. “You’re not my type, Alison.” I noticed as he pulled out a red dress, handing it over to me. “Wear it or I will have to strip you down myself, and drape it over your head.” He said. I collected the dress, and Damien gave me a warm look. “Good girl.” “If I do this would I leave this place?” I asked ignoring his words. “Do you want to die?” He asked in a casual tone. I shook my head. “Then stop asking questions. You have one minute to get dressed. I will be waiting in the car.” He walked away leaving me alone, as I held the dress. I hated the fact that he was doing this. I got dressed quickly and when I got inside the car I asked Damien t

I was exhausted. When we finally pulled up to the house, I glanced at Alison. Her head was leaning against the window, her breathing soft and steady. She was barely keeping her eyes open. I reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Come on,” I murmured. “Let’s get you inside.”She stirred slightly but didn’t argue when I helped her out of the car. Her body clung to me like a second skin as I guided her up the stairs. The moment we stepped into the house, she mumbled something incoherent, already half-asleep. I smiled. “Alright, let’s get you to bed.”I led her to the bedroom, pulled back the covers, and eased her onto the mattress. She barely moved as I tucked her in. As I turned to leave, her hand shot out, gripping my wrist weakly. “Please can you stay with me?”“I’m not goin

AlisonThe car jerked to a sudden halt, jolting me from the haze of exhaustion that had settled over me. My body felt heavy, and sore from hours of being bound and blindfolded. The minute the car opened, I felt the cold air hit my face first, carrying with it the distant sound of passing vehicles. Were we on a main road? A city? Was this where I die, before I could process my thoughts, a firm hand gripped my arm. A second later, I felt the ropes around my wrists being yanked loose. Then the blindfold came off. I blinked rapidly as light flooded my vision. When I finally saw who was standing in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God…”I could barely get the words out. It was Damien. He had saved me.My body moved before I could think—I threw myself at him, my arms wrapping around his torso, holding onto him as if I needed proof that he was real.“Damien!” I finally woke.He let out a small chuckle, as he wrapped his arms around me. “Surprised?” he murmured

Where were they taking me? And where was I?Suddenly I was dropped. Pain shot through my body as I hit the hard, cold floor. A groan slipped past my lips, but I barely had time to process the discomfort before the sound of heavy boots retreating filled the air. I swallowed, my throat dry. “Hello?” My voice wavered. “Who’s there?” There was no answer. The silence that followed made me realize I was all alone.I lay still, with my chest rising and falling with panicked breaths. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out the quiet. I had no idea where I was. And worse—I had no idea who had me. Regret churned in my stomach. I shouldn’t

Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I
