Damien

I roamed around the house, trying to keep my mind busy, but no matter what I did, my mind kept drifting back to Alison. Was she okay? Had everything gone according to plan? The thought of her being near Aiden made my skin crawl.

I let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through my hair.

I knew Hugh had really worked hard on this plan, calculating every move, but something didn’t sit right with me. I had this nagging feeling that something terrible was going to happen.

Without thinking, I stepped out of the house and headed toward the garage. My eyes landed on an old car I hadn’t driven in years.

It was covered in a thin layer of dust, but I knew it would still run. I walked over, brushing my fingers along the hood before pulling the door open.

“I hope this works,” I muttered under my breath.

Sliding into the driver’s seat, I turned the key in the ignition. The engine roared to life, and despite everything, I couldn’t help but smile.

Without wasting another second, I backed out of the garage and sped off.

Hugh had texted me their whereabouts earlier. Silver Estate. That was where Aiden was hiding out.

I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my foot pressing harder against the gas pedal. But as I neared my destination, I saw flashing lights up ahead.

“What was going on?” I said out loud.

I noticed that cars were stopping followed by it were horns blaring.

I was so curious to find out what was going on so I got out of the car.

“Move out of the way manic!” A man who was trying to turn yelled at my face.

I gave room, walking down the road until my eyes caught hold of what had caused the sudden stop.

There was an accident and from the looks of it. It was a pretty big one.

“Shit,” I muttered.

There was no way my car was getting through.

I made my way to the car and the minute I sat down I slammed my hands against the wheel.

The pain I felt after that act was nothing compared to how I was feeling, right now I needed to think of a way out.

Should I turn back or just wait, I knew I couldn’t wait there was no time for that. Every second counted and turning back didn’t seem like a good idea either.

Without hesitation, I jumped out of the car and started walking.

I weaved through the stalled vehicles and irritated drivers, my pulse pounding in my ears. It didn’t take long to realize that walking wasn’t going to be fast enough. I needed another ride.

I spotted a cab a few feet away and rushed toward it. The driver was about to pull off, but I banged on the window.

“Silver Estate,” I said urgently as I climbed into the backseat.

The driver eyed me suspiciously. “That’s a high-security area. You got clearance?”

I nodded, not even bothering to explain. “Just drive.”

The cab weaved through the city streets, getting me closer to my destination. I stared out the window, the sick feeling in my stomach growing with every passing second.

I hope Alison is fine.

I hope Hugh’s plan was going well too.

As soon as the cab reached Silver Estate, I spotted Hugh’s car parked at a corner of the road.

“I will be alright here!” I told the driver.

“I wasn’t going to go any farther anyway.” He informed me and I handed him a bill.

“You’re a dollar short.” He declared and I rolled my eyes.

“That is all I have on me.”

“Then you’re not leaving until you pay up.” He cut his engine looking directly at me.

I didn’t have time for this.

“I know men like you. You like to act like you run the city, while you use every chance you get to extort people. You’re nothing but a thwarting fool.“

“You have no right to speak to me that way.”

“I have every right. Now give me my money you fucking fraud.”

I dug my hands into my hood feeling the metal surface of my gun. This was one of the reasons I never left home without my gun because I knew I would come across men like this who needed to be taught a lesson.

I turned to look around and I noticed nobody seemed to be nearby and everywhere was pretty quiet.

“Stop looking around and pay my money!”

I huffed. “You’re going to regret saying that sir.”

The man scoffed. “I’m not afraid of you.”

During that moment I pulled out my gun, and the man’s eyes widened.

“You were sayin’?” I asked shoving the gun through his window.

“Don’t hurt me I have a wife and a child to feed.” He said in a cracked tone.

“You should have thought of that before you started dropping insults.”

“I’m really sorry, just please don’t hurt me. My child just clocked five.”

“The only reason I’m going to let you go is because of my good heart. Now start your engine and get the fuck out of here.”

He started the engine immediately and he drove off.

I smiled pocketing my gun, then I started walking down the street.

My instincts screamed at me to stay hidden. So I pulled my hood over my head and melted into the shadows.

Then, suddenly I heard a gunshot.

I froze. My heart slammed against my ribcage as the distant sound of barking dogs echoed through the quiet night.

I moved quickly, following the noise. My breath came in short bursts as I turned a corner and saw them.

Alison was on the ground, clutching her leg.

Hugh loomed over her, his gun still in hand.

I gritted my teeth, fists clenching. I knew this was all part of the act, but seeing him like this, and seeing her like this made my stomach twist.

Then, Hugh raised his gun again. I watched as he brought the handle down hard against Alison’s head. She let out a strangled cry, her body jerking from the impact.

I turned away for a moment, unable to watch. But then, something unexpected happened.

Alison moved.

Despite the pain, despite the blood trickling from her leg, she forced herself to her feet.

She ran.

She didn’t look back.

My breath caught in my throat as I watched her stumble toward a gated house. She rattled the gate frantically.

“Please! Someone is trying to kill me!” she cried out.

A security guard stepped forward, eyeing her with suspicion. “Who are you?”

“I own this place! Open the damn gate!”

During that moment, Aiden appeared.

He walked toward the gate, with a firm gaze. The moment I saw him, I knew this was my cue to leave.

I forced my feet to move, retracing my steps down the road. Every instinct in me screamed to go back, to rip Alison away from him, to make sure she was truly safe. But I knew I couldn’t.

This was the plan.

This was what we had prepared for.

I glanced over my shoulder one last time. Alison was still standing at the gate, facing Aiden.

I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but I could feel the tension even from a distance.

My jaw clenched.

I hated this.

I hated him.

But I had no choice.

I took a deep breath and walked away, disappearing into the night.

If there’s something else I could do…”“Alison!” He called my name and I wondered why until he spoke up again. “Do you want the bouncer to throw you out? Because I wouldn’t hesitate to tell them that you tried to do something shady.”I sighed. I couldn’t get thrown out. I needed to see Adam. He was the only one who could save me from sleeping on the streets.“Are you going to do what I ask or should I call the bouncer?” I was trapped. I just had to do it.“Okay what do you want me to steal?” I said and a smirk popped up on his lips. It could be mistaken for a smile because of the way his eyes radiated.“You see that man over there with the hat. Alison“Where are we going?” I finally asked, breaking the silence. We had been driving for hours, heading down the path that led out of the city. I was beginning to feel uneasy. The stranger’s dark eyes flicked to me in the rearview mirror. “The Highlands,” he said simply. “The Highlands?” I asked.“My home,” he added, offering no further explanation. Finally we pulled into a long, winding driveway. Guards were stationed outside, and they bowed their hands when he stepped out.“Damien!” A man called out walking in our direction, and I saw the stranger look his way.‘So that was his name?’ I thought to myself. “I thought you were dead,” The man continued. “You didn’t pick up my calls or reply to my messages.” “I had things to handle.” Damien said, in a firm tone. The man’s brows furrowed. “By things, you mean a bimbo?” He jerked his head in my direction, his scornful gaze raking over me. “The girl isn’t the reason I disappeared for days Hugh,” Damien replied evenly. “Our path

Alison I stared at Damien in disbelief. “You heard what I said.” His voice was cold, and his eyes distance. “Take off those clothes.” “I can’t.” I replied. “I don’t want to…” The cold calculating looking on his face faded, and a smirk popped up. “Do you think I want to fuck you?” I didn’t say anything I just stared at him. He chucked. “You’re not my type, Alison.” I noticed as he pulled out a red dress, handing it over to me. “Wear it or I will have to strip you down myself, and drape it over your head.” He said. I collected the dress, and Damien gave me a warm look. “Good girl.” “If I do this would I leave this place?” I asked ignoring his words. “Do you want to die?” He asked in a casual tone. I shook my head. “Then stop asking questions. You have one minute to get dressed. I will be waiting in the car.” He walked away leaving me alone, as I held the dress. I hated the fact that he was doing this. I got dressed quickly and when I got inside the car I asked Damien t

Damien ‘When did I become so weak?’ I muttered to myself as I watched as one of my men directed Alison out of the room. It was unlike me not to inflict punishment when need be. ‘What was wrong with me?’ “Damien!” The sound of my name being called caused me to pull myself out of my thoughts. I turned to see Gemma standing right in front of me. “Hugh has sent me to call you. He said he has something important to discuss.” “Tell him I would be there shortly.” I said to Gemma not giving her a second glance. My eyes were on Alison and the moment she was about to be directed down the corridor I shouted, gaining the attention of my men. “Bring her back.” I said. I saw Alison’s face change as I spoke. “Damien! Hugh has something really important to discuss.” Gemma spoke up again. I rolled my eyes, placing my gaze on Gemma. “Didn’t you hear what I said?” She nodded, and I placed my eyes back on Alison as I spoke. “Go deliver my message.” “You know she’s distracting you.” Gemma spo

You’re showing the enemies that we are weak.”“You need to calm down Damien!” Hugh said, and I furrowed my brows.“I can’t calm down.” My voice increased, and saw fear take over the eyes of my men.“You have failed me. All of you.”I said with my eyes landing on each, and everyone of them. “And you know what happens when you fail me.”I watched as they dropped to them knees. Their face covered in more fear as they looked at me.“We are sorry boss.” They said. “We didn’t mean to—““Silence!” I growled, raising up a hand. “Your pleads won’t save you. My arms ached from being tied behind my back. They shoved me into a dim room, the door slamming shut behind me. When I tuned, I saw Alberto standing at the far end, his back to me as he examined a small object in his hand. He turned slowly when he noticed me, a wicked smile spreading across his face. “Nice to meet you again,” he said flashing me a sly smile. I didn’t reply, keeping my eyes fixed on him. “What’s the matter?” Alberto sneered, taking a step closer. “Why so quiet? You were all chatty the night you and that mutt Damien stole my watch.” Still, I said nothing. He hated my silence, and I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of a reaction. His grin dropped , and his expression darkened. He closed the gap between us in two swift steps, grabbing a fistful of my hair and yanking my head back. I just stared at Aiden.Aiden moved closer to me. “I know no apology is going to make up for what I did, but I will keep apologizing if that’s what it takes to get you to come home with me. I let my emotions take over, which was wrong.” Aiden paused, then his voice picked up again. “Listen to me. There’s nothing going on with Mabel. I swear it. Everything I said that day... it was out of anger. I didn’t mean any of it.”“You’re lying!” I snapped, my voice breaking. “You told me you were going to marry her. Alison Later the next day, Hugh brought out a bottle of whiskey and poured drinks for all of us. He lifted his glass with a smirk. “To us,” he said. Damien raised an eyebrow but didn’t pick up his glass. “Let’s not celebrate too soon.” Hugh rolled his eyes. “Come on, Damien. Have a little faith. Things are going to turn out just fine.” Damien scoffed, taking a slow sip from his glass. “That’s what you said last time we went up against Aiden. It didn’t exactly end well.” Hugh chuckled. “Touché.” He leaned back against the couch, stretching his legs out as he swirled the amber liquid in his glass. “You know, Alison, Damien wasn’t always the brooding, overprotective type. Back in the day, he was the one causing all the trouble.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really?” Damien let out a groan. “Hugh, don’t.” Hugh grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Oh, I absolutely will.” He turned to me, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “There was this one time when we were kids—maybe fifteen

The faint scent of smoke curled around him as he flicked the ash onto the floor. He tapped the cigarette against a nearby ashtray. “Now, let’s get started. First off, thank you for joining in, Alison.” His eyes locked on mine. “I know you’ve been through hell because of Aiden, and I don’t expect you to join but I’m glad you did.” I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palm. “You don’t need to thank me I’m just doing what’s right.” Hugh nodded. “Good. Alison The moment I rolled to the other side of the bed and found out it was empty. I sat up, quickly.“Damien!” I said, after realizing he wasn’t by my side.‘Where did he go?’ I asked myself. He couldn’t be in the shower because I couldn’t hear the water running.I didn’t want to stay alone, so I threw the covers off my body and went to look for him as I made my way toward the door the voices I heard on the other side of the door stopped me in my tracks. It was Damien and Hugh. They happened to be arguing. I pressed my ear against the door, listening, and the more I listened the more I realized they weren’t arguing they were just talking with loud voices. “You have to choose Damien it’s either her or your grandfather’s contact. To me, both are necessary.” I heard Hugh say. “This isn’t the time to focus on emotions Damien. We need her!”There was a beat of silence before Damien spoke, in a tone that was lower and more controlled. “I’m trying to be considerate.” Hugh let ou

I reached over, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Come on,” I murmured. “Let’s get you inside.”She stirred slightly but didn’t argue when I helped her out of the car. Her body clung to me like a second skin as I guided her up the stairs. The moment we stepped into the house, she mumbled something incoherent, already half-asleep. I smiled. “Alright, let’s get you to bed.”I led her to the bedroom, pulled back the covers, and eased her onto the mattress. She barely moved as I tucked her in. As I turned to leave, her hand shot out, gripping my wrist weakly. “Please can you stay with me?”“I’m not goin

The minute the car opened, I felt the cold air hit my face first, carrying with it the distant sound of passing vehicles. Were we on a main road? A city? Was this where I die, before I could process my thoughts, a firm hand gripped my arm. A second later, I felt the ropes around my wrists being yanked loose. Then the blindfold came off. I blinked rapidly as light flooded my vision. When I finally saw who was standing in front of me, my breath caught in my throat. “Oh my God…”I could barely get the words out. It was Damien. He had saved me.My body moved before I could think—I threw myself at him, my arms wrapping around his torso, holding onto him as if I needed proof that he was real.“Damien!” I finally woke.He let out a small chuckle, as he wrapped his arms around me. “Surprised?” he murmured

I swallowed, my throat dry. “Hello?” My voice wavered. “Who’s there?” There was no answer. The silence that followed made me realize I was all alone.I lay still, with my chest rising and falling with panicked breaths. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out the quiet. Damien The moment I stepped into the mansion, I was shocked when I noticed that everywhere was quiet. I had expected to hear gunfire, shouting, and some sign of life. But instead, the only thing that greeted me was death. Bodies of my men were lined the front of the mansion. My hands tightened around my gun as I stepped past them, my pulse roaring in my ears. Where the hell was Hugh? I moved cautiously through the hallway, my gun raised, and my eyes scanning every shadow."Hugh?" I called out, my voice bouncing off the empty walls. There was no answer. I increased my pace, moving deeper into the mansion. My mind was already thinking about the worst, that something terrible might have happened to Hugh. It was during that moment I heard a sound. It was faint at first but then it became loud, it sounded almost like a groan."Hugh!" I called again, following the noise. This time, I heard him clearly. “Here…” His voice was hoarse, coming from one of the rooms upstairs. I
