“Did you know… We aren’t really humans. We are the aliens on this planet.”

I heard my little brother groan as he knew that this is another “the earth is flat” like the discussion we’re about to have. I love teasing my brother this way.

“NOOOOO!! We’re not aliens! We do not have big heads! If we really are aliens, then we should have spaceships and we’re able to travel in space!” he huffed, defending the existence of the typical alien with big heads and googly eyes that movies usually describe as.

“That’s the thing. We also can shape-shift.” I said, while trying to fight off my smile. He looked so done with my antics. For sure, he’s already weirded out and embarrassed to have a sister like me. He told me I was weird and I’m not offended. “Normal is boring” is always my defense.

“Don’t you ever wonder why us 'humans' can’t live without houses? Why we can’t live naturally in the forest? That we have to build houses for us to live? You don’t see any monkeys constructing houses, do you? The animals can live in the wild or mountains, why can’t we? It’s because we are the aliens!” I explained passionately, while trying to keep a straight face.

“UUUGGGGHHHH! YOU’RE SO WEIRD!” he looks like he’s so close to banging his head on the wall. I let out a laugh while I enjoy his turmoil.

“You can never find another as awesome as me,” I smirked at him while I left him to wonder what he has done in the past life to have such an AMAZING AND AWESOME sister.

I went downstairs to our living room to continue doing my requirements. I only went upstairs to our room just to bother my little sibling, not because I was procrastinating. What kind of student am I if I were to procrastinate? Wow, I’m really so mature and responsible.

I sat in front of my computer, opened my modules, and checked my phone just to see if someone chatted. I sat there for a good 30 minutes scrolling on my phone before I realized what I have done.

“No no no nooo! Not again! Maisie, focus!” I tapped my cheek as I planned how I’ll start my work. I stared into space as I thought of my plan… Until my thoughts turned into imaginations. Within a second, I escaped reality and drifted into my endless daydream. I know that I have to work, but I love this feeling of drowning myself with these limitless imaginations.

It took me an hour before snapping back to reality. I just created a whole movie inside my head within that hour. Checking the clock, I saw it ticking angrily at 2:00 am. I frowned as I tapped my cheek again. In tapping my cheek, I felt a little bump that’s ripe. I went to the mirror in front of the stairs and stared at the growing pimple.

“Goodbye bitch.” I said as I popped the zit. It was so satisfying, seeing the zit out of my pores. I checked the other areas of my face to see if I can pop another one. I’ve watched videos that say how popping zits can ruin your face, but I can’t help it. Just then, I heard whispers coming from somewhere. I looked around to see if my family was there. From my position, I can clearly see the entire living room since our house is just fairly small, but enough for 5 people under 5“7’.

When I realized that the noise was not coming from behind but in front of me, a scream escaped my mouth as I felt myself being pulled INSIDE the mirror. MY GUTS ARE RIGHT THAT THIS WAS A WEIRD-ASS MIRROR!! I fought my mom to not buy this since it gives me the chills, but of course! You can never waste a good sale.

After what felt like years of falling from nothing, I finally felt the impact of the ground on my back. I was actually expecting some ‘wobbly’ feeling while I was sucked into the mirror.

“What the bloody hell??” I groaned as I rubbed my back. I looked around and noticed that everything was dark and different. Where in the hell am I?? Once my eyesight adjusted to the dark, obviously I’m not in my home anymore. I am surrounded by trees and some VERY dark aura. For now, let’s just say I’m in a forest. Who knows, I might be delusional.

From a distance, I can hear horses and men shouting. Some of them are holding torches. I guess they noticed me when they pointed in my direction. At first, I froze in my spot. Well, what do you do when someone points at you? Ah, that’s right. I SHOULD RUN. Why do you ask? Someone tried to shoot me with an arrow!

I got back to my senses fast and tried to run away as fast as possible. I ignored the pain on my bare feet as my adrenaline is at its peak. They continue to shoot arrows at me, and one grazed my skin. HAH! LOSER YOU MISSED. The sting from the wound caused a whimper to escape my mouth. I almost tripped when I was caught off guard by the protruded branch.

I squealed and fell on my back when a horse suddenly blocked my path. I looked up at the man riding a horse with fear and panic painting my body. I’M GOING TO DIE SHIT SHIT SHIT! I tried my best to crawl back as he went down from the horse and slowly made his way to me. I must’ve looked pathetic. Well, at least this pathetic bitch was lucky enough to find something to defend me with. I felt a big rock under my palm and tried to hide it from his view.

“You shouldn’t have gone here. Well, it makes my job easier though.” He shrugged, and I glared at him. I couldn’t plan anything to say as my mind was panicking; trying to look for the perfect timing to stone this big-ass bulky stranger. He unsheathed his sword and stabbed my left shoulder. I screamed in pain as a tear escaped my eyes.

“Any last words?” How cliché.

“Last words, my ass!” I said as I gathered all my strength and threw the rock at his head. I am bad at aiming, so it went to his face instead. Works for me. He staggered back as he held his face. It bought me time and ran again. I could take the horse, but that would be too cool. Of course, it won’t work. I know no shit about riding horses. For all I know, the horse might be like Maximus from Tangled. Why am I thinking like this? Oh yeah, I’m in pain… JESUS GOOD LORD MY SHOULDER HURTS!!

I tried to look back, only to see that they are not following me anymore. I still continued to run. However, I can’t run anymore as the ground beneath me disappeared. I looked down to see that that was the fucking end and I’m falling down the cliff. My body hit the side of the cliff several times before finally reaching the waters. I’m slowly losing my consciousness from all the pain that I just gained. My vision got all blurry and the last thing I saw was the group of men from the top of the cliff aiming an arrow at me. I guess I’ll die then…

Oh shit, I’m not dead! Or am I? I tried moving but everything feels heavy, and every move causes pain to travel all over my body. Fuck. Just fucking great. After a while, everything felt numb. I tried to open my eyes, but my eyelids also feel heavy. I wanted to scream, but no voice is coming out and my throat feels dry. I panicked when I can’t feel my body moving. I tried thrashing around, but I can’t feel anything!!“Calm down, woman!” Huh?? Where did that voice come from? I can’t stop panicking and continued to try and feel anything because I really hate the feeling of sleep paralysis. I don’t like the feeling of being restricted and not being able to do anything.“Oh, for Pete’s sake!” After that, I felt something wet splashed on my face. I jolted awake and abruptly sat up, only to fall back again, causing my head to spin. I groaned as I can feel all the pain coming back again, only for it to worsen. Slowly

I woke up with the sound of chickens. I can even sense one near me. What? My stuffed toys came to life? Toy Story??? I blindly reached out to the clucking chicken. However, the chicken’s a bitch and bit me. I jolted awake when I felt pain and got back to my senses. I’m still here… It was not a dream… I’m still… alive? I’M STILL ALIVE, FUCK. I looked down just to check if they left me untouched last night. Thankfully, I am. I forced myself to stand up even if the ground is unstable and moving. Gosh, why is everything swirling?I massaged my temple and tried to walk as quietly as possible outside. I peeked from the curtains with only my head outside as I scanned the surroundings. All I can see is a backyard of some sort with chickens and an… alpaca’s close-up face? There are trees nearby and probably a river too, as I can hear the flow of water.“Good morning, darling. Have you slept well?” I screamed

We walked to the horse, and he helped me to sit on top before sitting behind me. I only rode a horse twice in my life with someone navigating the horse for me while I just sat there. This is my third time, but now the “navigator” is behind me while he wrapped his arms around me to control the reigns. *cue romantic music*I hummed a tune that is used to this kind of scene after the horse started moving at a calm pace.“What are you singing about?” I felt his breath on my nape when he asked his question. I just shrugged and continued to take in the surroundings. I noticed that there’s no path or any signs of road to where we are currently ‘strolling’ on. Trees and greeny things surrounded us. I don’t know, I suck at describing things. Anyway, Jayce just speaks his mind and does not stop telling tales about his adventures with Aziel.“Really? Are you sure it’s a bear you managed to tame, and not a rabbit?&

It’s been three days since the market incident. I’ve been ignoring Jayce and I try to avoid him at all costs. Other than that, I try to help Aziel out with whatever I can help with. May it be tending the chickens or their mini farm, with which I have zero knowledge and experience with. Today, I volunteered to harvest the eggs from the chickens because how bad can it be?First, this coop smells like shit. Second, it turns out that in order to get ONE egg, those damn chickens must peck you aggressively first. Aziel took note to never let me near the chicken coop again, because I was ready to burn their coop and make a feast out of them. I swear, I felt like they laughed at me after only harvesting 2 eggs before giving up. Fine. It’s not like it’s pleasant to be there. Before leaving their coop, I flipped them my middle finger, and the chicken had the audacity to fake attack me. Not that I flinched and jumped a few feet away, causing me to

I stood there in wonder for a good minute. The snow reached my ankles, and it was cold. Freezing. I looked down at my feet and realized I forgot to wear my shoes. I can feel my feet turning purple from the cold.“I apologize for this,” he said before pulling me off the ground and carried me back to the room where I was staying at. It's only now that I noticed how dark the room was. Only a sliver of light from the small gaps and cracks of the made-up wall could illuminate the room. I watched him while he tried to warm up a cloth. Once he felt it was ok, he turned to me but froze when he realized I was watching him. He cleared his throat before walking towards me. He placed the warm cloth on my once cold feet. I sighed in relief, with the extra warmth enveloping my feet. We sat there in awkward silence while avoiding gazes.I already forgave him because I just want to mend things immediately, especially that he’s been nothing but a nice friend. It&rsquo

I woke up with an arm resting above my stomach and a head snuggled at the crook of my neck.Just kidding.I woke up to the two bickering in the kitchen.“I told you to peel half of the potatoes!” Aziel said, exasperated, looking like he’s done with Jayce.“I just did! I see nothing wrong with that!” He said while gesturing at the pot, offended by the way Aziel’s treating him.“I meant half of the number of potatoes that we have. Not literally half of each potato!” Aziel exclaimed while he pulled out a half-skinned potato. I let out a small chuckle at the scene I woke up to. They both turned their heads to me. I lowered my head immediately to hide my face. Sometimes I look good after waking up, and most of the time not. I’m not sure how I look today, but I ain’t risking it. This face is not really something you’d want to see first thing in the morning.“Now you woke Maisi

“Have you seen a girl—” I didn’t need to hear the rest. Out of panic, I looked for a place where I could hide. The bathroom would be too obvious. The treasure chest is too shallow. I looked at the big ass jar in the room's corner. I opened the lid and saw that it was half filled with hay. This would do! I tried my best to reach the opening as the height of the jar is the same as mine. I closed the lid and dug through the hay until I buried myself at the bottom. Just then, I heard the door open. I tried to hold and even out my breath.“I told you officer; it would be impossible for a girl to live with us. That would be indecent,” I heard Aziel’s voice, along with multiple footsteps, entering the house. I heard the officer that tried to kill me scoff.“As if. It’s not like you low-life pigs would care for some decency. For all I know, you might hide her for yourselves to enjoy later. You do know that if we found out t

“Train me.”“No.”“Why not.”“Because you’re a girl.” I glared at him because of that. He seemed frightened for a second before composing himself and continued to feed the chickens they managed to keep.“Why,” I narrowed my eyes at him while he tried to busy himself with tending the animals.“You’re supposed to be protected.”“Why.”“You’re a lady. A lady must not lift a finger.”“Why.”“Because it’s the right thing!” Jayce exclaimed, growing exasperated.“Why,” He huffed and tried to escape. For my personality of the day, I was a needy b*tch that won’t stop until she gets what she wants. Usually, I would’ve stopped when he said his reason (probably because I’ll be too frustrated with the misogynistic thinking to continue pestering him). But f

Vaughn’s news last night didn’t let me sleep. The word ‘scouting’ and ‘rival’ doesn’t sound good together in one sentence. For all I know, we would be scouting the kingdom where the soldiers there are out to kill me. Couldn’t they just pick another kingdom to scout?! I also can’t ignore the underlying morals I have to brush off. That ethical dilemma where you’re also contributing to possible deaths of innocent people by participating in the scouting. But doing nothing whilst knowing the possible outcomes of their plans to scout is the same as just watching a crime unfold in front of you. AM I A HORRIBLE PERSON?! These thoughts squeezed tightly around my head. The nerves on my head pounded the longer I thought of my likely future. I pushed my head hard to the pole in hopes of relieving the ache. I let my head hang and tried to clear my brain. There’s only one solution to my current dilemma. I took a deep breath before shouting at the top of my lungs. Just like in cartoons, there

Vaughn showed up the night I surpassed the longest record of being tied down on that damn pole. I know it’s Vaughn, despite my poor vision, because he’s the only person who walks that path in the woods. He looks like he was carrying logs in one of his arms and something in the other. It was a satchel. He stopped his tracks halfway towards me, then motioned his head to leave the field after seeing my free state. I felt like a newborn deer when walking towards him. I stopped a few times to stretch my wobbly legs. He stared at my face for a while the moment I’m in front of him before walking away. I rushed to his side and matched his pace. He kept on glancing at my face the whole time we walked towards some place. Tonight, the dimly lit moon made it harder for us to navigate through the thick piled-up snow. The soldiers had to rake the snow off once every 1 to 2 hours to even out onto the field. However, they leave the snow to pile up 2 hours before their training ends. Some soldiers

Everything became bland again when morning came. It’s as if no one tried to kill me last night. I haven’t seen Vaughn yet after he left with my attacker. Riain still stopped by a while ago to rant about how his servants ruined his morning. Apparently, he wanted a vanilla bath, but they gave him a rose and milk bath. Having to endure hearing him rant about baths, I became hyperaware of how I badly needed one. Minutes after he left, the mean prince and his troops came. We held eye contact for a while before I broke it and glared some place else. I really hope he can feel my hatred from miles away. Seriously? Can’t he be brave and kill me head on? He really had to order someone to do dirty jobs for him. There must have been an event today at the palace since everyone left earlier than usual. That means I can loosen the ropes and stretch for a bit. I guess I’m really back to this routine again. Well, until I complained about everything going back to normal. Today, I had an unusual

Once again, I was left alone with my thoughts and cramped body. I wiggle occasionally to prevent further muscle and joint damage from my body being inactive for days. Being tied up for a long period has taken a toll on my body. The ropes are now looser and gave me more space to bend my joints a little. To add more pain and discomfort, I also have a clogged nose. The restraints, cold weather, stress, and starvation weakened my immune system. Every minute movement I do made it a little hard for my brain to catch up. The world spinned as soon as I move my head. Don’t even get me started with how I pee. The urge to be swallowed by the ground every night whenever Vaughn rescues me from marinating myself in pee. I closed my eyes and diverted my thoughts from my struggles. Listing them down won’t do me any good. But… I have to endure 3 more days to be free? IF they were to let me go. On a more pressing thought, I still don’t know that guy’s name.

1ST PERSON’S POV: I lost track of time. I don’t know how long I’ve been in this world. Though I’m sure that I’ve been tied to this rope for a day already. It was hard to sleep consistently in my current situation. I could only take a few naps before waking up because of the cold or something itches that I can’t scratch. Amid the miserable things that continue to happen in my life, watching the winter sunrise erases all the negative feelings I have for a moment. I would like to hold on to that moment of peace, even if it’s just for a bit. Gazing at the sky eventually led me to be blinded by its brightness. I looked down and blinked multiple times, hoping to remove the dizzying effect of staring at the sun. After getting my sight back to normal, I saw Vaughn walking through the forest while carrying a wheelbarrow. He looks so tiny from afar. With my poor eyesight, I wouldn’t have recognized him if not for

1ST PERSON’S POV: I knew the guards dragged me to who knows where, but I slept halfway through it. My eyes closed as soon as I tried to open it. The mental and physical exhaustion I experienced yesterday still drained the life out of me. Though I peeked at where I was and saw the field. My senses slowly crawled their way towards me until it finally registered in my brain that they rigidly tied me to a pole slightly thinner than me. This pulled my shoulders back awkwardly. I can only dread the upcoming soreness later- if they were to free me. My teeth were already chattering while the harsh coldness of winter gnawed at my face. I forced my eyes to open to have a better view of my current situation. The angry face of the mean prince first entered my sight. His whole body was stiff, with some veins bulging on his neck. ‘Heh… Bulging…’ I do not know how he scowls every second of the day without gett

1ST PERSON’S POV: “I… I can’t… I know you’re mad—” “VERY FRUSTRATED.” He cut me off before looking away and exhaled deeply through his nose. He’s sulking… Like a child… I tried to control my facial expressions to avoid pissing him off. Though my heart felt warm with this new side I’m witnessing. I wanted to explain myself, but words refused to come out and my mouth ended up awkwardly ajar. Silence became louder as we stayed still in our spot. He sat there with his arms crossed while I stood in front of him with a dripping cloth in my hand. My eyes locked on a certain spot before zoning out. Everything felt surreal. I survived a riot without killing someone (hopefully), and two attacks! “A-a… o…” I stopped zoning out when I heard sounds coming out of his mouth that I cannot understand. He’s barfing the words that want to be puked out. I watched him squirm on his sit as he struggled to form a coherent sent

Meanwhile, Maisie’s panic grew as she went deeper inside the woods. She might’ve survived from those guards, but she knows she can’t survive alone in the woods. That’s a problem she left for her future self to worry about because she needs to survive first right now. She never looked back and continued to run. That was a vital mistake she made. While not looking back won’t slow her down or cause her to panic, she failed to notice that the two guards have split up. She was too focused on her unknown destination that she didn’t notice another body rushing towards her. It was too late for her to avoid as the body collided with her and crushed her to the ground. She wheezed at the sudden impact on her lungs. She swatted the person above her repeatedly while pulling his hair out of fear. The poor person had to shout to gain her attention, but Maisie didn’t stop. Vaughn ran out of patience and held both of her wrists and pinned her down on the ground. Maisi

After we crossed the bridge, another obstacle tested my courage. The bridge only connected to the side of the other cliff, only giving a small space to stand after crossing the bridge. Then the only way up to a stable ground was through the narrow pathway stuck on the wall. It was so narrow that you have to walk sideways and pray. The best part? It doesn’t have safety railings or nets to catch you if you fall to your death! Ok! I give up! Just leave me here! Vaughn took the hint of my surrender, so he pushed me to the narrow pathway and blocked me from going back to the small safe space. 3RD PERSON’S POV: Vaughn and Maisie weren’t even halfway through their journey up the cliff, but Maisie continued shouting while passing the narrow path. She held to the wall with her dear life while she walked like an awkward crab with trembling limbs and her bottom stuck out, as if she were stuck midway
