Chapter 2

It was probably the unluckiest day of my life. I didn’t know if I should feel offended or sorry because I almost lose my job before I could even start. Sir Jonathan was a total savior, for he arrived before I could even offend the two significant men in that company.

Little did I know, the room where I casually fetched water was none other than the CEO's pantry. Talk about an unconventional start to a new job, right?

Well, anyway, it was already in the past, and I explained to Mr. De Luca that he only mistook me for someone and I was actually the new assistant of Mr. Knight. Fortunately, he apologized and was actually pretty sorry for what he did.

That’s all I needed.

Today is the actual day of my job. I decided to keep it simple and comfortable for the day, opting for a modest look. I wore a plain white round-neck shirt that offered a clean and casual vibe. The tight jeans hugged my figure, making it more advantage for me to cover most of my skin. To complete the look, I paired the outfit with flat shoes, ensuring both comfort and practicality.

I just didn’t want the incident yesterday to happen again.

“Good morning, Sir Jonathan,” I said when I spotted him at his desk.

He glanced up at me and offered a smile. “Good morning, Ms. Claire. You ready for your job today?”

I nodded my head. “Yeah.”

“Good. Please sit down for a moment while I prepare some list for you.” I sat down across him as he typed something on his computer and printed something afterwards. When he finished printing, he handed it out to me. “There is no really a lot of thing you should do. Since Mr. Knight’s office and I have intercom, he can dial me if he wants something. If he asks you to buy food, you can just order them online and have them deliver. When he asks you to get him a coffee, the pantry is just next to his office. Remember that room yesterday? Next to that was his office.”

“Yes, I remember,” I said with a smile. Really, I don’t see the reason why they should get him a personal assistant. It is just a waste of money if you ask me. Why? Because there is no really a hard job to start with! But then, it’s a pretty convenient thing for me.

“Hmm, anyway, this list is the list of foods that he usually orders as well as the list of food that he has allergies. I also added there the mixture of coffee that he wanted. Please make sure to review them well.”

Wow. Sir Jonathan must really know Mr. Knight so well because he literally knew everything about him.

I couldn’t help but giggle.

Sir Jonathan eventually ordered me to enter the CEO’s office. It was Wednesday today and I went to work quite early because, duh? Who would want to go to their first day of work late? I don’t have the guts to be late, especially because the salary is too good to be true.

As I got inside the CEO’s office, I noticed how spacious and clean it is. There were only a few furniture’s, but the elegance and cleanliness spoke volumes to how wealthy and powerful the owner is.

I roamed my eyes again and noticed his neat desk. It only has a closed laptop, some papers, and some pens that were lace atop of it. When I continued to observe, there was a set of sofa across his desk and a center table. There was also a TV and a mini fridge—probably stored with some alcoholic drinks.

I also noticed some indoor plants, a floor to ceiling window, and then there were two doors in which I suppose where the restroom is and the other was for other stuff.

Other than that, were no other things inside the office. It was simple yet elegant.

“If you’re done checking, step out of the way now, Ms. Romanov.”

I jumped out of shock when I suddenly heard a voice right through the back of my ears. Looking over my shoulder, I almost had a heart attack when I saw Mr. Knight standing behind me.

God!

“I-I’m so sorry!” I stuttered, panicking, as I rushed to step aside, almost tripping.

He just gave me a side glance before stepping inside.

My face flushed from the embarrassment.

I watched as he went over his desk and removed his coat before putting it around his swivel chair. Now he was only wearing a black long sleeve polo. His body was well-built underneath that polo, I can say. His broad shoulders almost made me put down on my knees.

Mr. Knight’s dark hair was slicked back, face void of emotions, and body tensed with probably tight muscles. I could literally feel myself shaking from within as my eyes lingered on the tall, imposing man before me. The air feels somewhat thick and hot. I was having a hard time breathing.

He was just so… hot.

My eyes widened. What the hell am I thinking?! There is no way in hell I should think of those stuff! I just got hired for God’s sake! I should refrain myself from thinking of such inappropriate things.

Shaking my head, I walked towards his desk and bowed my head. “Good morning, Mr. Knight.” He ignored me, of course. I bit my lips as I flustered, then I continued, “W-Would you like some coffee?”

“Yes.”

I almost flinched when he spoke. His voice was calm yet cold, making it hard for me to understand him. But my work isn’t about understanding people, right? My only job here is to follow orders.

Right. I should not feel demotivated just because of this. After all, Sir Jonathan already explained it to me how everything works. Plus, I needed the money for my family.

With that in mind, I flashed a smile and raised my chin up. Mr. Knight was already busy with his laptop while ignoring my existence as if I am nothing. But that’s fine.

“O-Okay,” I replied after a while. “Anything else?”

No answer.

“If there is none, then I shall get your coffee now.”

Just as I remembered, I went to the same room I entered yesterday where I ‘accidentally’ got spanked by Mr. Knight’s friend while he was watching himself. I don’t know why, but there is something the way the humiliating situation I was in makes my body tingly. The fact that there were two hot guys watching me that time, it makes me… oddly hot.

My face suddenly heated from embarrassment. Just thinking about it makes me want to swallowed alive by the ground.

I just couldn’t deny that… they two were drop-dead handsome men.

When I finished making the coffee, I went back to the office and put down the cup on his desk. I stood there for about a minute before he finally decided to take a sip of it. I held my breath, waiting for a comment he may possibly have. Wat if I messed it up? What if I mixed it differently the way he wanted it? Will I get fired or something?

However, the comment I was waiting did not happen at all.

Suddenly, there was a deep chuckle. I turned my gaze towards the door and saw a man standing at the doorway with an amused smirk plastered on his lips. His green eyes were fixated on mine once again.

“M-Mr… De Luca,” I uttered, eyes widened, as I unconsciously taken a step back.

“My, my. I pity your new assistant, Zillian,” he teased.

“Shut up,” Mr. Knight replied without taking his eyes off his computer.

Mr. De Luca welcomed himself in as he looked at his friend. “Can’t you see? She waited with bated breath for your reaction, but you only sat there like a statue. She must be pretty terrified of you. Aren’t you afraid, sweetheart?”

A gasp left my lips when the two men suddenly looked at me as soon as the question was thrown over at my face. I couldn’t help but to swallow really hard as two pairs of intense gaze were fixed on mine as if anticipating for my answer.

Mr. De Luca’s smile widened while Mr. Knight’s gaze darkened.

My lips trembled. Just what the fuck?

“See?” Mr. De Luca continued, proving a point.

But he was wrong. I was scared of no one. I was just... nervous. For some reason I couldn’t explain.

I shook my head. “N-Not at all, sir,” I retorted, my voice was a little lower, so I cleared my throat. The two of them looked at me. “I mean, I am not afraid of Mr. Knight. I am just doing my job.”

“Oh?” Mr. De Luca said almost disappointedly as he sat down on the chair right across Mr. Knight’s chair. “What a shame.”

Finally, Mr. Knight raised his gaze and stared at the man before him with a bored look on his face. “Don’t you have a company to run, Atlas? Why are you here as early as this?”

Mr. De Luca, or what Mr. Knight called, Atlas, laughed carefreely. “Chill, dude! You’ll definitely gonna grow old faster at that if you keep being grumpy. Have some fun!”

“I just had. Last night,” he said, deadpanned.

“Right. I almost forgot.” Atlas once again burst out laughing. “Though, it was so boring I almost fell asleep.”

“Shut it, Atlas, and go back to your company. You’re ruining my day.”

“Man, you’re heartless, you know?” he faked a hurt expression on his face. “For once, let me just stay here. You see, you got quite a good view here.”

I couldn’t help but took a deep breath and looked away, my face flustering. What the hell is wrong with him? Why does he keep teasing like that? And hell! Why am I reacting kinda weird by it?

Atlas then glanced at me from head to toe and grinned.

“You can sit now, Miss Romanov,” Mr. Knight suddenly said, making me look at him in surprise. I was just about to ask him when Atlas began muttering something to him.

I nodded my head. I don’t actually know where to go now or where should I sit without being too far from the CEO to call. When I spotted the sofa, I walked over there and sat down quietly.

I could still hear them bickering towards each other. For some reason, I feel like I was intruding their personal space.

“Dude, you never told me you got a hot assistant here,” I could hear Atlas’ hushed voice. “Please, let me have her in my company.”

“Fuck off.”

“Why?” Atlas whined like a child to his friend, and I could already feel the glare of Mr. Knight without me looking at them.

Me? Working for Mr. De Luca? Sounds pretty interesting for me. But then, why would I think of such a thing?

Suddenly, my phone buzzed from jeans. I picked it up and saw my mother calling. All of a sudden, my heart race. I don’t know why but I feel like there was something wrong. She wouldn’t normally call me when I’m working.

Gulping, I stood up from the couch and quietly left the office. Just as I picked up the call, mom’s panicked voice infiltrate my ears.

“Y-Your brother is in the hospital right now…”
