chapter one hundred and twenty-eight

Emily POV

"Next time, help Tyler think straight. Kidnapping other people's children solves nothing," Luke says, making me laugh a little. Truth be told, Tyler wasn't thinking at all.

"You can count on it," I say, crossing my arms, thoughtful.

"So, how is Caroline's son?" he asks.

"Deep down, he knows very well what's going on, just doesn't quite understand. I think he'll be fine. He's the strongest child I've ever seen in my life."

"Are you going to stay here at the hospital?" he asks, looking around.

"Yes, Luke, I have patients. Thanks for coming to pick up the body. And please, do something decent," I say, turning my back, ready to return to work.

"You're still very beautiful," he whispers, biting his lower lip.

"And still married."

We laugh, and then I leave the waiting room for good, leaving him alone. I decided to go back to David; as it's not safe for him to remain in the hospital, Tyler suggested he stay at home. I could take care of him from there, and he'd also be safe from E
