The podium was tense, as it should be. The past five days had been the most exciting and exhilarating thing that had ever happened to me, to us in general as a class. We had failed and hurt and cheered together, a few had even shed tears. We have had victories and defeats and we have had several of our mates beaten so bad we all thought they were all going to die. But we had made it, we were still thirty just like we were in the beginning, no one had died even though some had been severely injured.I felt as if the fighting realm more than anything had brought us closer together, had gotten to know names of everybody and I had opened my heart in a way I never did.The evil that is in my soul, that had been slowly eating away at my humanity, the evil that was King Hades had finally left me, because of my class and was back to being Cassie Hades, the one that had dreams. I was happy. We had finally chosen the person that would be representing the whole class, and I was glad. Emily was
"It's so funny how I am not in the least bit worried. Are you?" I said to Emily. We had been walking for quite sometime, going in the direction we thought we could find a gem. We had said nothing the entire time until I spoke."How about you keep quiet and let me concentrate" she replied stiffly. My gaze went to her and I watched her body language, she was...trying too hard. I didn't want to worry but her actions were worrying me. I said nothing after that.It wasn't long before the smell of Alphas hit me and quickly stopped. I placed a hand on her shoulder and sighed, letting her know someone new was not too far from where we were. She nodded in acknowledgement. We became stealthier as we moved admist the trees and the wet ground. The smell of petichor helped camouflage us from them, but it couldn't hide them from me.We moved closer and hid under some bushes and watched them. I looked around and only saw four wolves guarding their gem, nobody else was there.I quickly tried assessi
We went back as silently as we had arrived, stealthily and quietly moving through the forest. We arrived just when a fight was ending. I could see incapacitated wolves on the ground groaning in pain, most of them not our own.I looked around and saw Emmanuel limping, there was a huge tear on his shin which was slowly closing up. Mitchel was seated grinning from ear to ear on one of the wolves on the floor."Damn it" shouted Emmanuel and he walked towards where we stood watching everything."How did it go?" He asked."We are good" I replied, still looking around at the Carnage that had happened.I nodded at the other three students, they looked fine. They nodded back, one of them even smiled."I think another group should go. That way we won't exhaust our strength by going after them one after the other" said Emily. She walked past me and sat with her back on a tree, she looked drained"Okay then. Give us a minute to recover. I and Mitchel will go" he replied as he walked back.I nodd
"Noooooooooo......" Mitchel's mouth was saying the words but I was not hearing. The sound of their gem hitting the ground added to the ringing in my ears and my eyes were becoming hazy. My wolf was awake and she wanted to play.Fuck.Emily was out of Teresa's hands and into mine in an instant, I cradled her head between my arms as I bent low and laid her on the ground. I didn't know if she was going to make it at this point or not, it looked very bad."And the winner of this year's class team fight is Alpha One A!" Shouted Commander Matt on the microphone. Shouts and screams of the viewers reached us but for me it was nothing, it was all background noise. My eyes were riveted on Emily, trying to find out if there was a lot of damage and if I should get help.I scooped her up in my arms and ran towards where I thought the entrance had been. I found the elevator open and got in as fast as I could. It automatically closed and took us up back to the centre of the arena. I was out and ru
I hardly had any sleep the night before, staying beside Emily most of the time or going back out to the reception to stay with Joshua and Bryan. They looked so good together and I was glad they were my friends.I couldn't help fidgeting with the thought of what would happen the morning to come. I would have to leave them and go and fight for the team. I didn't want to let Emily down but I didn't want to let the class down more.Emmanuel finally came for me at dawn and we were off before I could even say anything to Bryan or his boyfriend. I never got permission from Emily to take her place, and was doing it anyways. The drive back to school was way longer than the drive on our way here. I finally noticed things I hadn't when we were in the car earlier. We had left the suburbs and went into the city to get to the clinic where Emily was, and now we were going back to the school.I felt like I had been given a death sentence the entire time."Are you ready?" Asked Emmanuel, his eyes sti
The alarm sounded and I ran as far as I could to the farthest edge of the arena, I leaned on the glass and watched as some of the fights ensued. Gunshots rang as one of the players pulled out her glock guns. And everybody spread far away from the bullets.I looked up just in time to see the sharp edge of a sword aimed at my head and I swiftly got out of the way. A very young looking boy stood in front of me with the uniform, I would have thought an audience got lost and ventured into the arena if I hadn't seen him being introduced as one of the representatives or if he wasn't wearing our uniform. He had a cold dead look in his eyes, he was ready to kill if possibleI had nothing to defend myself with from his attacks so all I could do was dodge as fast as I could. I felt a tear in my arm and looked down in shock, that split second of distraction was good enough for him to tear through my skin and I fell to the ground with a grunt. My tissues were not healing as fast as they should,
"So you are saying I lost?" I asked for about the tenth time.It was evening and we were still outside talking about everything and nothing. Most of the students had gone back inside to their dormitories and a few were still loitering around."Yes Cassie. One minute thought you were going to be attacking and killing everyone within distance and the next you were on the floor. It was shocking really" said Bryan.Emily immediately burst into laughter, something she had been doing everytime the topic came up. I bet she was having a good time I glared at her and she burst into another bout of laughter, she just wouldn't quit it."Maybe next season, you would actually win. It I'll be in another six months and who knows, I might actually join you guys" said Bryan, shrugging. We spent the rest of the evening making fun of one another and watching the stars. I didn't care that I might be disappointing Hades by being a good friend and having a nice time. There would come a time when I wouldn't
We formed a long line. I stood at the forefront with Emily right behind me, and then the rest of the class followed. We managed to keep several inches between ourselves right until the last person.I looked at Jonathan, indicating that we were ready. He said nothing, just stared at us point blank.Okay then. One of the other commanders did us the honour of timing us, and off we went.I started immediately and Emily followed, one after the other until the whole class had formed a long line. I heard snickers and laughter from the other students that were watching us. We looked very ridiculous and we knew it."What do you mean to protect the foreman?" Asked Emmanuel when I had told them my plan earlier."I have never heard that before," said Mitchel thoughtfully."Yes. It's a baseless theory figured out one time, but I think it's a solid idea and what time to test it if not now?" I shrugged.."Okay. Say it one more time. Maybe it won't sound as ridiculous the second time" said Bryan."W
