Chapter 3

    Lia's POV

I broke into a run as I stepped out of the pack house. I ran deep into the woods, my vision blurry with tears.

My whole life had turned upside down in just a few minutes. I got divorced and betrayed by someone I loved so much.

Now, I was going to be a single mother with no one to care for me and my child. Kira's words stung each time I remembered it. I wanted to scream to her at the moment that I wasn't barren.

I wanted to tell her that I was carrying Levi's heir at the moment and watch the colors drain from her eyes.

But I couldn't. I couldn't even bring myself to talk. No one would believe me anyway. I couldn't get pregnant earlier in my marriage because of the accident I had.

The entire pack expected an heir and were slowly losing faith in me. I had prayed to the moon goddess for a child.

I finally got pregnant, only for my husband to divorce me and shove his mistress in my face.

Levi and Kira's make-out scene flashed across my mind, and I almost threw up while running.

I slowed my pace until I stopped running eventually.

My legs ached from how fast I ran. Sweat trickled down my forehead. I darted my gaze around and realized I was surrounded by trees.

I slowly started to trace my steps and finally came out to the main road. The whole place was so unfamiliar.

I sank on a bench I saw by the side of the road, panting heavily. I had no idea what to do from here or where to go.

My parents were dead, and I have no relatives that I know of.

I sighed. My head hurt the more I thought about it. I decided to keep walking. I might get help somewhere to spend the night.

I forced myself to stand up from the bench and dragged my feet forward. My head felt heavy but I endured the pain. I only made it a few steps before I slumped to the floor and blacked out.

   ***

I slowly open my eyes, feeling weak and disoriented; I look around, squinting my eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness.

I dragged my gaze around trying to make sense of my environment, and I realized I was in a hospital ward.

I tried to sit but fell back into the bed. My whole body ached painfully.

"You are awake." My eyes landed on the doctor strolling towards me.

I tried to sit up again but winced slightly as I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. The doctor rushed to help me up.

“Thank you,” I muttered. I held my head as it throbbed painfully. I tried to remember how I got here but got nothing.

“How are you feeling now?” He asked.

“A little sore, but I'm fine.”

“How did I end up here?” I asked.

“You were brought in last night. You were under a lot of stress and passed out. Luckily, you hadn't sustained any major injuries.” The doctor explained.

I sighed. Then I remembered something and I stared at the doctor.

“My baby? Is my baby okay, doctor?” I asked, holding my breath as I waited for his response.

“Your baby is in perfect condition, ma'am. There were no complications during your treatment.”

“Thank you. Who brought me here?”

“The Alpha brought you in. I'll inform him that you've regained consciousness, then you can meet him.” He said. He walked out shortly after.

I was left wondering who the mystery ‘Alpha’ was. I wanted to thank him for rescuing me. My mind wandered to my present predicament. -

How do I survive with a growing child inside me? I didn't have a job or any savings. I left all of my belongings at the pack house.

I made a silent prayer to the moon goddess to help me and my unborn child.

The door creaked open and a man walked in. He was very good-looking in his fine tuxedo and perfectly styled hair.

"How are you feeling now?" He asked, walking closer to my bed.

"I'm feeling better now. You don't seem like a doctor. Who are you?" I asked.

"Well, I'm not. I brought you in last night." He said, his hand traveling to the back of his neck.

"Thank you so much for saving me. I appreciate it."

"It's a pleasure. I'm glad you're okay now." His lips tilted into a smile.

"If you don't mind, can I ask you some questions?"

"I don't mind at all. Feel free to ask."

"How did you find me?"

The road I was on earlier was unfamiliar to me and it doesn't seem like people tread it often. It was full of potholes.

"I was just passing by when I saw you conscious by the side of the road.  I couldn't just leave you. Long story short, you're in my pack house. I hope you don't mind?"

"I'm in another pack?" I jolted in surprise. He gave me a simple nod.

"How far is it from Blood Moon Pack?" I asked as I swallowed hard.

"Well, we're on UK soil now, so I'd say pretty far."

"UK soil? Did you bring me from the Blood Moon Pack in Virginia to the UK? That's kidnapping," I half yelled.

"It's called saving your life, ma'am. I told you I was just passing by. I didn't know any hospital near the place I found you.  Since I was coming back to my pack, I did the most reasonable thing, bringing you along. But you're not being very appreciative right now,” He said, his brows creased in irritation.

I understood him. I was been ungrateful right now.

But was I supposed to do it? I had never left my pack ever since I joined one, and now I just realized I was transported to a new country entirely.

It was overwhelming. "I'm sorry. I was just a bit shocked."

His face melted into a smile.

"It's no problem. I understand that. I'm sorry for bringing you here without your consent. I can get you back to your pack when you're fully recovered." He said.

"Thank you." I smiled.

"Uhm... I know this is too much to ask of you, but when I found you in the woods, you had nothing on you. I just wanted to let you know that if you need a place to crash before returning home, you're welcome in my pack."

He was being kind to me. He was so kind that it made me feel so uneasy.

He didn't even know me, yet he was willing to help me.

It was how I fell for Levi in the first place Levi.

I groaned as I remembered him. "Is something wrong?" He asked, his voice laced with concern.

I sucked in a deep breath. I hope I don't regret this.

"Can I ask one more insensitive question?"

"Go ahead."

"Is there something you want from me? I know you're been kind but I just can't help myself."

The question was very rude and I knew it, but I couldn't risk getting hurt the second time. The situation felt too familiar.

He cocked an eyebrow.

"What makes you think I want something from you?" He asked with a hint of amusement in his voice.

"I don't know. I mean, you don't know me, and you decided to save me and also bring me to a strange country. I just feel a bit unsettled about it."

He gave me a creepy smirk as if excited at the prospect of me being unsettled. The smirk was gone as fast as it came and it made me wonder if I had imagined it.

He stood up from the chair and strolled to the door.

"You didn't give me an answer." I stopped him just before he stepped out.

He turned around and gave me a dark stare and the creepy smirk from earlier.

"You'll know what I want after you're better and out of here."  He stepped out immediately, leaving me confused with several questions in my mind.
