Luna for a year

Chapter 4

    Lia's POV

It's been three days since I was discharged from the hospital. The man who helped me three days ago brought me to his mansion after he learned I had nowhere to go. I found out his name was Johnny.

I was hesitant about coming here at first but slowly caved in when he offered because I didn't know where to go. I couldn't go back to Levi's pack. It was obvious that I wasn't welcomed there.

But also, I didn't know Johnny well. I made up my mind to only stay here for a few days until I figure things out.

I hadn't seen Johnny since he brought me here and asked his workers to help me settle in. The maids told me he was on a business trip. I decided to wait patiently till he was back before I left.

But aside from his absence, everything else was nice. The food was nice, the people were very welcoming, and I was treated very well. A bit more than when I was a Luna.

Despite all these, I couldn't stop wondering about the last words Johnny said to me at the hospital. I had asked him what he meant by that during our ride here, but he simply dodged the question. I made sure to be persistent in getting the answer, but he simply told me the time wasn't right.

I dragged my gaze across the room. Everything in here screamed luxury. I wasn't exactly moved by it. It was almost like Levi's manor except this one is full of solid colors. It was the same as Levi's manor before we got married. I had improvised and moved some things around after we got married. I even added some flowers. Levi didn't like it but he never complained. It was one of the reasons I fell for him.

I shut my eyes tight. I wasn't going to think about that cheating, lying bastard. I made up my mind to forget about him and move on with my life. He had done the same. I wouldn't hold myself down still wallowing in the past.

I wanted to distract myself from any thought of Levi. I strolled to the window and stared outside. I was mesmerized by the beautiful garden scenery so I decided to go downstairs and see the flowers up close.

I stepped out of my room and descended the stairs. The maids would stop once I came across them and give me a slight bow. I didn't complain but it was slightly uncomfortable. Back when I was the Luna, I made sure no maids ever bowed for me. But here, I was just a guest so there is not much I can do about it.

I finally got to the garden and it was more beautiful than when I was staring at it from the window. I relished the soft breeze that blew on my face and the strong smell of flowers.

I strolled further into the garden, admiring the flowers with a big smile on my face.

“You love flowers?” A deep voice said behind me.

I turned to see Johnny strolling towards me with both his hands behind his back.

“I'm a big lover of nature.” I smiled.

“I was just coming in and I saw you heading to the garden. Hi.” He stretched his hand out for a handshake. He was holding a file in the other hand.

“Hey!” I accepted his outstretched hand and I withdrew it after a few seconds.

“I'm sorry I couldn't see you since you got here. I've just been so busy with work. I'm the worst host.” He said and chuckled.

“It's okay. You've been a wonderful host. I had a great time.”

“I'm glad.” He smiled.

“Do you want to sit?” he gestured to a bench a few meters away from us.

“Sure, let's sit.”

We strolled to the bench together. We sat in silence for a few minutes, neither of us wanting to break the silence first. It was quite obvious that he wanted to say something. I also wanted to talk to him. I wanted to tell him I would be leaving soon.

“I…” we both said in unison. I chuckled.

“You first,” I said.

“Lia, if you want, you can continue to stay here even after you give birth to your child. I would make sure to protect you and your child and provide everything you need.”

I cocked an eyebrow. Hold up a second! It sounded too good to be true.

“Why will you do that? You don't even know me. I could be a serial killer!”  he let out a slight chuckle at my last words.

I studied his expression and he seems genuine with his words. But I still couldn't trust him.

He sighed, “You are right, I do need something from you.”

“What do you want?” I swallowed past the lump in my throat as I anticipated his reply. I felt like I wasn't going to like his condition.

“I want you to be my Luna for a year.” He said.

"Your Luna?" My voice was barely audible. My heart was beating so fast in my chest. I couldn't bring myself to enter that commitment again after I just got out of one. I wasn't ready for another. And I don't even think I ever will be.

"Yes, for just a year."

He knelt  down on one knee before me and dropped the file he was holding beside me on the bench.

“I'm going to do everything I said and more. I'm going to be the father of your child. I will make sure he doesn't lack anything and I will always keep you safe. You don't have to be with me physically. We can stay in separate rooms. I just want you to be my Luna for a year. Once you sign these papers, we're good.” He said, his eyes pleading with me as he spoke.
