He could feel the lease of fresh air blowing around him and the bright sun shinning on his face as he woke up. He kept staring at the ceiling thinking of what had happened to him after he was forced out of bed from the nightmare he just had. This was not the first time he was experiencing something like this and it has been happening to him ever since he turned 10. It gets worst over the years.
Dylan was lost in his thoughts as his phone kept ringing but he was in no mood to take any calls. His phone rang one more time as he looked at it to see that it was a missed call from Lily, his best friend right from childhood . It was the third time she called him within two minutes. A notification suddenly popped up on his phone.. A message from Lily. “Hey what’s up sleepy head.” Her message read and he quickly picked up my phone to reply. “I am doing great mole head, just the same series of dream I told you about that have been disturbing me for a while. It is kinda getting a lot worst than before.” Dylan sent a reply to her. Lily was that friend that you are comfortable with telling everything that happens to you. She gives the best advice and at the same time, she is quite a wonderful listener. “The unknown voice that always pops up in your dream again?” Lily sent a reply to him. “Yeah that same voice and I just don’t know what is wrong, at least this time around we were able to have a long conversation before I woke up which is quite weird because he would normally repeat a specific statement and then I would wake up.” He sent a reply back to Lily. “When you woke up, were your bedsheets torn as usual by the same claws?” Lily immediately replied to his text message. “Yes, that exact same thing. I woke up with my bedsheets torn.” He immediately sent a reply back to her as he tried stretching his body in the bed. He slowly got up from bed and He changed his bed sheet to a new one. This have been happening to him for a while and so he never forgets to buy himself new bedsheets whenever he sees the opportunity to do so. He went straight to the bathroom to wash up his face knowing so well that he would be looking so drained after he had this weird nightmare. He turned the tap knob to the opposite direction and he stretched both his hands to carry some water that he splashed on his face while waiting for Lily’s next text reply. He looked at himself in the mirror and He noticed that He was looking a lot hairier than before and this might sound crazy but He can definitely tell that He looked a lot bigger than the way He was last night. Even puberty don’t hit teenagers that rapidly in just a day. He noticed three parallel lines on both sides of his cheeks just like the whiskers of a cat and that really threw him off balance as He fell to the floor out of surprise. He slowly got up on his feet and Dylan looked at the mirror one more time but He couldn’t find the whiskers on my face anymore. A messaged just popped up on his phone that was by his side and He saw that it was a reply from Lily. “What did the voice in your dream say this time around since you claim that you both had quite a long conversation unlike before.” The message read. “I don’t think this is something I could just write to you, call me and I would tell you all about it.” He sent a reply back to Lily. He kept staring at his face and he knew what He saw but this time around, there was absolutely nothing on his face. His phone suddenly began to ring and it was Lily that was calling, He immediately grabbed a towel and He dried up his hands so that He could comfortably grab the phone to take Lily’s call. “Hey Dylan, how are you feeling right about now?” Lily asked me. “I am feeling so drained and I really want to get to the bottom of all of this. Why is this voice always stuck in my dream and it always comes at a fixed interval. After I turned 17, I always noticed that after I have such dreams I would wake up with my bedsheet torn and it is just like the claws of a beast ripping my bedsheet.” Dylan replied to her as He got out of the bathroom. “You said that you had quite a long conversation with the voice, something that have never occurred before. So what did he talk about?” Lily asked. “He kept saying the same thing he usually says when he appears to me in my dream, something about me forsaking my clan or something of that sort.” He replied to Lily. “Well tell me more about it, I am all ears and that is why I called you.” Lily said to him. “Why have you forsaken your clan the moment we needed you the most? No matter how hard you run away from your problems it will only come back to hunt you.”He said something like this to me in my dream. “What do you mean by forsake? I haven’t forsaken anyone and I don’t know what you are talking about.”I tried replying to the voice. “So what happened next?” Lily asked him. “That was the perfect opportunity to ask who he was and so I asked him who he was.” Dylan replied to lily as he sat back on his bed. “So what did he say?” Lily asked. “Search deep within you and you will eventually find out who I really am.” The voice said to me and I got really confused at that moment. “So what was your reply to that statement that he made?” Lily asked me one more time. “There is really nothing to search deep within me when you won’t reveal your face to me, You are just a voice that have been stuck in my head and I keep wondering how possible this could be.”That was exactly what I replied to the voice. “Keep talking, I am all ears. This is actually scarier than I thought it was.” Lily said to Dylan. “The mind only allows things that are a part of you to be seen in your dreams and no matter how hard you try running away from me, I will keep reaching out to you until you are willing to accept your true responsibility.” The voice said to me. “Whatsoever this voice might be, it must really be someone ancient because of the way he replies to you.” Lily said to Dylan. “Yeah that came into my thoughts too after some series of replies he gave to me.” Dylan said to Lily. “Why do you keep appearing in my dream and you seem to have a fixed period of time when you appear to me. What issue do you have with me? You have been speaking to me ever since I was ten years old and you are yet to show your face to me. All I see is darkness and then a voice that speaks to me telling me to accept who I really am, this is just how crazy it sounds.” That was my reply to the voice I heard in my dream. “Why wouldn’t you just show your face to me? Show your face to me and then I would have more idea of what you are talking about. You are just stressing me and this really needs to stop.” I kept trying to make him show me who he really was. “It is almost time for me to reveal myself to you but by then you should be ready to accept who you truly are. It is a matter of time before you become who you truly are.” And then he said this to me and I didn’t just know what to say again. “I will never join whatever charade you are talking and I never want to see you in my dream.” That was my final reply to the voice. “And then what happened next?” Lily asked Dylan. “After that statement, I felt a really sharp pain in my chest and it was just as if my heart was being pulled out of my body and that was when I jumped out of bed.” Dylan replied to Lily. “I don’t know whatever thing that is wrong with you but it is obviously something supernatural, obviously not normal at all. Let me start by asking you, when do you encounter this weird voice in your dream?” Lily asked Dylan. “Towards the end of every month, the voice always appears to me in my dream and I really don’t know what to do. It is really taking a toll on me and it is quite noticeable, my mum seems to notice my mood swing each time I have this dreams.” He replied to Lily. “Oh yeah I also noticed that he appears to me during the full moon, I wake up in the middle of the night and I notice that it’s a full moon. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but it’s definitely not normal.” He added as he kept on running his finger through his thick brown curly hair. “I know a gypsy that I once met and I think she might have a clue of what is wrong with you, all you need to do now is to provide a date and then we could go see her.” Lily proposed an idea to Dylan. “You know fully well that I don’t believe in this gypsy shit, stuff like that are usually fake and they say all type of trash just to get some few bucks from us.” Dylan said to her as he laid down flat on his bed staring at the ceiling while holding his phone to the ear. He turned to the other side of his bed and it was about 5 am in the morning. “Besides Lily, I am yet to ask why you called me as early as this in the morning. Shouldn’t you be on your bed sleeping or something?” Dylan said to Lily. “I definitely couldn’t sleep after I woke up in the middle of the night and you are the first person that came across my mind. I tried to call you just to see if you were awake and I guess it’s my lucky day, you didn’t take my calls but you replied my text messages.” Lily replied to him. “Do you have a better alternative apart from we trying out the idea of a gypsy?” Lily asked Dylan. “I really have no idea of what to do at the moment and I would have just bashed off the idea of it was the first time of me encountering something like this but this have been happening over and over again. And I forgot to tell you but I think I grew some few feet taller and a lot hairier within some hours, I know this might sound crazy but I am not bluffing.” He said to Lily. “You know what? I will just call you later in the day.” Lily replied to him as she hung up on him. “Hmmm, that is weird of her to hang up on without any reason but that’s cool. I will just have to wait for her call later in the day, she always comes up with a solution to my problem ever since we were kids and that is why I will never stop telling her things that happen to me. But come to think of it, what is really wrong with me? I know I am 18 but these are clearly not the signs of puberty that the teacher taught us in school. Something is wrong somewhere and I really need to get to the bottom of it because the allowance mum gives to me won’t be enough for me to keep buying new bedsheets and buying some few things for myself.” Dylan said to himself as he kept staring at the ceiling of his room. “Did he finally speak with the voice in his dream?” A deep voice from the dark asked Lily as she hung up on Dylan. “Yes father.” Lily replied to him in a very low tune. “I think you have known him for more than eight years now and you have been doing quite a good job when it comes to the mission I assigned to you, I think he is the chosen one and I want you to continue to keep an eyes on him. Don’t you forget that you are doing this for your clan and no one else. I noticed that you quickly hung up the call on him the moment you felt my presence, I hope you are not catching any sort of feelings for him because that would spoil the mission that we have assigned to you.” He said to his daughter as he finally stepped out of the dark, to show his face to his daughter. His skin was pale white but it had this incredible amount of freshness to it, his eye pupils were as red as well brewed fruit wine and he had his sharp fangs popping out of his mouth. He was putting on a black suit on and he had this elegant look to his face too. “Father! Don’t tell me that you have taken the life of an innocent again because I can see that your fangs are all popped out which clearly signifies that you must have taken the life of a human before you got here.” Lily said to her father as she dropped her phone on the floor. Lily stayed alone in a single apartment and she attended same school with Dylan, there was so many things that Dylan didn’t know about lily including the fact that her father was alive. Lily told Dylan that was an orphan that was enjoying the vast wealth that her parents had left behind for her. She also told him that a firm was responsible for her well being and they would be in charge of her until she finally turns 18, then she could inherit the health of her father. A well structured lie to cover up for her father and Dylan had no choice but to fall for it. “I had taken the life of a living thing on my way here but it was clearly not a human, it was just a sheep that I saw on my way here and I had to refill. You know we can’t go that far without the taste of blood my dear.” He replied to his daughter as he stretched his hands to pat her on her cheek. “You are forgetting that you are not a human and this life you are living is really not meant for you, you are on a mission to get a hold of that good for nothing half vampire and werewolf boy. It is quite a pity that he doesn’t know who he really is but he will eventually find out soon enough and when he does, he would join us to fight against the werewolves. I know he is an abomination of nature that happened because of the clumsiness of the alpha of the wolf clan and a female vampire from our clan, that abomination that they call love is responsible for this boy and we would need to get him on our side to be able to put an end to the wolves once and for all. Besides you know the spell that was casted on us forbids us from taking in the blood of humans no matter how attractive or irresistible their blood could smell. The moment we taste the blood of a human, we lose the power to stay under sun light and the ring on our index finger gets broken, I know some stray vampires are willing to take the risk but I will clearly not do something this stupid because I would want to see you every time of the day. There have been reports of some weird killings around and I think those werewolves are responsible for it, I want you to make him hate his clan to the extent that he would have no choice but to join forces with us so that we could sweep his clan off the surface of the death. Don’t allow your emotions get a hold of you because this is a mission that determine the existence of the vampires, remember that you are about a 300 years old too and that spell was casted on you to make you take your current look so as to facilitate the mission and you are doing quite an excellent job for the past eight years I must say.” Hansel said to his daughter. “I am well aware of that father and I won’t let our clan down, I will do anything possible to get him on our side and it is slowly falling into place.” Lily replied to her father. “Remember Lilith, that you are the daughter of Dracula the ruler of the creators of the underworld and there is no room for any emotions. You have to be as rootless as I am if you are to ascend my throne.” Hansel added. “Yes I am well aware father but I would prefer you call me Lily instead of Lilith.” She replied to her father. “Don’t get too attached to the things of this world, you are not as weak as these humans so you shouldn’t act like them too. You are an immortal with the ability to do anything you want, so I don’t want you to get lost doing the same things these humans spend away their little life span on. You shall be called Lilith and you will only take whatever name you want when it comes to the mission, am I clear enough?” He said to his daughter. “Yes father.” Lily replied in a low tune. “He is about 18 years of age if I am correct, so he should able to take transformation any moment soon. He should be seeing signs of it too if I am not mistaken.” Hansel said to his daughter. “Yes father, he complained to me that his body suddenly got a lot bigger over the night coupled with the fact his bedsheets is always torn to shreds whenever he speaks with the voice in his dream. That is clearly a sign that he is about to take transformation and I would be right by his side whenever that happens.” She replied to her father. “That is great to hear and I am glad that you have got everything in control over here. Well I shall be returning to our cave now and you know where to find me whenever you need me.” Hansel said to his daughter as his body started to deform in a weird way. He transformed into a bat and flew through the window heading back to his cave. Lily immediately threw herself on the bed as she breathed a huge sigh of relief now that her father had returned back to his cave, now the tension in the room had dropped. Lily stomach suddenly began to rumble which meant that it was time for her to feed. She opened her fridge and she helped herself with the frozen animal blood that was stored in the fridge. “You look so pale Dylan, what is wrong?” A calm feminine voice suddenly asked Dylan as he sluggishly walked down the staircase to their quite vast kitchen where his mother was fixing his favorite dish for breakfast. “I am quite alright mum, I guess I woke up at the wrong side of the bed.” Dylan replied to his mother as he approached her and gave her a soft peck on her cheeks. “Where are my manners? Good morning mum.” Dylan greeted his mother as he went straight for the fridge to get some milk to drink. “Good morning Dylie.” She replied as she stretched out her hands covered in gloves to pull out the hot cake pan from the oven. “I am still not convinced that you are okay, you look so stressed out.” She said to him as she hurriedly dropped the hot pan on the table. “Still had the same dreams?” She asked him as she pulled off the gloves she was putting on. “Yes mother, it is just as if these dreams happen at a fixed time interval and it look so real. It didn’t feel like it was a dream, I just don’t know what is wrong.” Dylan replied to his mother as he ran his fingers through his curly brown hairs. “Do you want to talk about it? Do you want to talk about the dream you just had?” She asked him as she pulled out one chair from the dinning table to sit with him. “It is really nothing to worry about mum, I will be just fine. I guess it is just the teenage nightmare every teenagers gets from watching too much of horror movies. I guess I would just have to limit the way I watch them from henceforth.” Dylan replied to her as he stood up from the dinning table to set the dishes because his mother was done with the cooking already. “You always find a way to maneuver away from telling me about what you dreamt off and I don’t really know the reason why but I would respect your decision. As for the horror movie you are talking about, you are 18 already so I don’t see any reason why such movies should take a toll you. That being said, at least now I know that you will have to reduce the way you follow up with the horror movies.” Phoebe replied to her son as she grabbed a knife and was ready to split the cake she made for breakfast. “The cake smells so yummy mum, I can’t wait to dig in. I am starving!” Dylan said to his mother after setting the dishes for four. “Yeah I know, no one makes better strawberry cakes than that of mine. But there is no digging in without your siblings so you would need to go get them first Dylie. You woke up quite early today and I guess it is because of the dream you had, you always wake up early anything you complain to me of having such nightmares. Go wake them up because I know the moment you start digging in your favorite cake then there wouldn’t be any left for them when they wake up.” She said to Dylan who was ready to pounce on the cake. “Come on mum, it is 6 am in the morning already so they should know by now that they should be up. They are both 16 and they have gone past the age of me always waking them up from sleep.” Dylan complained to his mother. “Okay then, there is no eating or else they are here on the dinning table with us. So I guess we would just have to wait until they are awake then.” She said to Dylan with a huge smile on her face. “That is emotional black mail mum, you know I am compelled to do anything when it comes to strawberry cakes so why are you using that against me?” Dylan asked his mother and she could see that he was salivating. “Hahaha, I always win. So are you going to go wake them up or we could still remain here and keep chatting. You know how much I enjoy chatting with you because I barely get the time to do so because of work.” She replied to him. “Okay mum, I guess you win this time but I would be victorious the next time.” Dylan replied as he got up his chair and he left the dinning table to wake his siblings. Dylan ran up the stairs at quite an alarming speed jumping about five stairs at a time. “This boy with his crazy athleticism and he wouldn’t agree to join the school sports team.” Phoebe said to herself as she observed the way Dylan jumped and sprinted up the staircase. “Rise and shine, slab head.” Dylan said out loud as he walked into the room of his brother without knocking. He looked at Derek and he was still snoring heavily not bulging a bit even after the grand entrance Dylan had made. “Okay then, since you would wake then I guess it is time for plan B.” Dylan said out loud as he wide opened the windows and the reflection of the morning sun was right on the face of Derek. “The air smells so fresh.” Dylan said out loud as he inhaled the fresh air after he had opened the window. “Yo Derek! Get your lazy ass off the bed.” Dylan turned his back and said to his brother. “Go away Dylan.” Derek replied in quite a low tube as he kept turning around his bed. “I would start a countdown from 0 to 3 and if you are still not up then I would have to initiate my plan C.” Dylan replied to Derek as he sat down on the chair in his room. “Just how many plans have you got?” Derek asked him as he turned to the other side of his bed, covering his body with the blanket. “I always prepare for the unexpected so I make more than enough plans necessary.” Dylan replied to him as he stood up from the chair he was sitting. “Your room is all messed up and it smells like shit. Get your lazy ass up, it is time for breakfast. I wouldn’t say this to you anymore, don’t get angry if you wake up and you see no food on the dinning table for you.” Dylan said to him as he kept walking around his room trying to arrange the room. “Go away Dylan, I was need some sleep. I was up all night playing the call of duty games and it is safe to say that I have gotten past your level already. Can’t you just keep my side of the cake? I can smell Mum’s special strawberry cake and that was what woke me up and not your shouting.” Derek replied to Dylan. “Mum might want to reserve some cake for you but I will make sure I eat the last crumb of it. I would be going over to wake Diana up and when I am back to your room and you are not up by then, Plan C would be initiated.” Dylan replied to Derek as he left his room for that of Diana. “Yeah whatever, just close the door behind you.” Derek said to his brother. “Lazy asshole.” Dylan said our loud as he slammed the door. “Knock knock. Are you still sleeping little one?” Dylan said in a low tune as he knocked on Diana’s door. “Little one? I am 16 for crying out loud Dylan. You can come in though.” Diana gave him the go ahead sign to come in. Dylan walked into her room and he saw her applying some make up on her face while facing the mirror. “How are you doing?” Dylan asked the youngest of his sibling as he walked into her room. “ I am doing great, just practicing some make up tutorials I saw online. How do I look?” Diana asked him as she turned to him and gave him a bright smile. “You look like Derry the clown.” Dylan replied as he burst into laughter. “That was a lame joke Dylan.” Diana replied as she threw her pillow at him. “Haha I was kidding, you look so beautiful and it seems you have mastered the application of make up too.” Dylan said to her as he caught the pillow she threw at him. “Come have a sit and stop resting on my door like a creep. I would soon be done over here, I guess you are here so that I could come down for breakfast. Mum made strawberry cakes right?” She asked him. “At least I am not scared of sitting on anywhere in your room unlike that of your twin brother. I think he rare some wild species of animals in his room because that place is all messed up. And yup, mum wants you downstairs immediately for breakfast.” Dylan replied to Diana. “I heard the way you banged his door and I knew he must have said something annoying to you.” Diana said to Dylan as she started to laugh out really loud. “Derek is just an annoying brat and he is always a thorn in under my skin but I know the right way of handling him I guess.” Dylan replied to her as he went to sit on her bed. “School commences in a week time, Mum spoke to me about her wanting you to enroll into one of the sport teams in school but she told me that you have got no interest in that. Is there a particular reason why or you just don’t want to?” Diana turned her back to face Dylan. “There is really no particular reason actually, there is really no reason why I don’t want to join them.” Dylan replied to Diana. “ Your room smells so nice and rosy as usual and I like the touch of pink in it too.He could feel the lease of fresh air blowing around him and the bright sun shinning on his face as he woke up. He kept staring at the ceiling thinking of what had happened to him after he was forced out of bed from the nightmare he just had. This was not the first time he was experiencing something like this and it has been happening to him ever since he turned 10. It gets worst over the years.
