Raleigh pov

We had to do the dishes, at least to find a way to pay off the unmerited debt. Before I knew it, a lady walked in with a stack of plates.“

You have to clean this too.” She said and gave a stern face and left.

“ See where your so-called kindness has led us. Some people aren't just worth it.” I said in anger.

“ How long should I keep apologizing?”  Mo pleaded.“

As long as I wish.” I lashed I felt a splash of water.

Where did that come from? I asked myself and realized it was from Mo. She did it again!

“ Can you quit being childish now?”“ Not until you've forgiven me.” She retorted and splashed more on me.

I picked up the damp sponge and aimed at her dress. She feigned being upset and that's how it began. The kitchen flooded with water and detergent.

Abruptly, the door flung open and we didn't hesitate to become statues.

“ What the hell happened here?” a lady asked in rage. She was average sized, fairly beautiful with the specs she had on but one could tell she was the clever type. I assumed she was the manager. Words were reluctant in proceeding out of my mouth and probably, Mo’s own too.

“ I asked a question, didn't I?” She asked again. The waitress that attended to us earlier walked in.“ There are the ones ma'am.” She said, Oh no, what again? I groaned to myself.

“ Call the cops!” Mo gently held my arm and whispered,” what is she talking about?”

“ Exactly what you're hearing.” I said and pushed her away.“ We can talk about this ma'am, there's absolutely no need to involve the police here.

” I said.“ Leave me to decide that .” She said and walked away with her noisy heels.

Mo and I sat, moving our laps to the tense atmosphere of the room. In my five years of being a journalist, never have I found myself in a cell, but Mo’s foolishness was capable of doing that.

I heaved deeply and regretted listening to Mo in the first place. I should have peacefully stayed back home and flipped through the pages of purple hibiscus by my current favorite author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and sip coffee from the new mug I bought from Las Vegas at intervals, that would have been much better.

But how long would I live in my desire when there was apparently no way of getting it back to it? The ray of sunlight met my face and a full built shadow appeared. It was masculine.

Wait, that perfume smelt familiar. I knew that particular fragrance, but from where?

“ Hey Mason!” Mo greeted me. Ha, I knew it. I knew I had smelt that fragrance from somewhere but it didn't ring a bell.

“ Hey beauty.” He responded.“ Thanks for coming.” She said,

“ Hi.” I greeted blandly.“ Hi.” He responded, paying more attention to Mo.

“ Please, can you take us out of here?”

“ Not so fast. What crime has the princess committed that necessitates the prince coming to her rescue?”   Not him again flirting with the Shakespearean vibe. He rested his muscular arm on the desk, I guessed he was flirting. No wonder it freaks Logan out when he speaks in such a manner.

“ It was an accident.” Mo said and gazed at me.“

Interesting.” He responded.

“ Do you mind taking us out of here first, afterwards, you'll ask us any question you wish.” I suggested.

“ It's because you asked.” He said.

“ But I did also.” Mo countered. It seemed her ‘childish,’ mode had been activated.

“ Don't start now please.” I pleaded.

“ Princesses have their way and so does she .” He said, referring to me, giving Mo a triumphant stare.

“ I hate when you say that.” Mo said, feigning annoyance. I was sick and tired of their love playing.“

Can we leave now?” I asked, clearing my throat, obstructing their “mess”

“ Of course.” He said, still staring at Mo.The door went open as we saw the Manager. She walked elegantly in, still making her heels ache but stressed ears. She was dumbstruck at the sight of Mason. As if he was some kind of celebrity.

“ Don't tell me you're the hot CEO of Sprockers?” She said, with her jaw down .

“ Of course I am.” Mason replied proudly.

He then shifts his gaze to Mo. Mo is furious. The manager being on cloud nine was what remained a mystery to me. She was all over him, in a flirting manner.

“ You can call me Anne.” She said, offering her hand for a kiss.

“ Law. Mason Law. “ He said, granting her request by planting a kiss on her hand. In anger, Mo stood up and left, slamming the door really hard. Jealousy burned deeply in her.

“ Ha, I think I'll have to take my leave now. Duty calls.” Anne said.

“ Absolutely, beautiful. “ He said and she left with a loud giggle. Mason assisted in helping me get up, as if I was handicapped. Perhaps, he was being a gentleman We peacefully left the insane place and were now on the street.

It was dawn already and everyone quickened their pace but I was too tired for that. Like me, Mason walked slowly, slowly but not out of weakness but with prestige.

Wait, we were actually legging! Why was his car not with him, I thought. Different thoughts raced in my head as to why he decided not to take his car along. I finally spoke out.

“ Why isn't your car with you?”

“ Oh, you mean my Mercedes?” Ha, show off, I muttered.

“ Whichever.”“ I chose not to take it .”

“ If I may ask why?”“ Isn't it cool living like a normal man? To be honest, I'm damn tired of this thing called wealth. It comes with a lot of problems which I don't think I'll ever wish to have.

”So the rich cry. Splendid. I wanted to know what it means to be sad after acquiring such an amount of wealth.

“ Wow, that's a strange thing to say though.” I said.“ Nothing appears as it is. There's a tear behind everything.”

“ That sounds creepy. Hope there's nothing you would want me to know.”

“ Nope. Everything is cool with me, just lonely.”

“ I wish that's my problem.” I said and he laughed really hard.

We happened to cross the road to the other side and we were close to my house. Nope he was not coming home with me, I prayed.

“ You left without saying goodbye  the other day. Besides, you shouldn't have left.”

“ I apologize, but you should know it wasn't my fault. That Mr. Logan of a man really pissed me off.” I noticed guilt written on his face.

“ Yeah, I'm aware of that and I apologize on his behalf. Truly speaking, he messed up big time.”

“ Ha, never mind.

I don't take things to heart.”“ I believe you.”

“ Thanks.”

“ No, I should be the one saying “thank you”

“ I'm sorry you'll have to deal with it cause it's a part of me.” I said and we both giggled.

“ I see.” We both made entry into the living room. I met Mo pacing around, at the peak of vexation. Suddenly, a pair of shoes aimed at Mason's forehead and he was drawn backwards by its force.

“ Oh my God, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?” I said, helping Mason.

I immediately turned to Mo and she glared with folded arms, lifting her left brow, which I found quite hilarious but held so tight onto my laughter and feigned getting upset at her.

“ What was that for?!” I yelled and attended to Mason again.

“ No, it's fine. I'm good.” He said, putting a hand on his forehead in an effort to massage it.

“ He knows what it's for, ask him.” Mo said. Oh, little princess Mo getting jealous huh? I thought to myself and smiled.

“ I think you guys need to talk things out.” I suggested.

“ Yeah, we do.” He said and gave a kind of seductive stare and moved closer to her.

“ I don't want to talk to you.” She said and turned her back to him.  He didn't listen to her but grabbed her by the waist and carried her in his arms. She screamed and punched him.

“ Let go of me.” She said as her voice died down as they both shut the door to our room. Deep down, I knew Mo really liked the dude. He was handsome, rich, kind, caring, good in bed as she argued,in fact ,every masculinity trait flowed in his veins. Claiming she had a one night stand with him was enough reason to get jealous if any lady tries flirting with him, so probably her actions were a little justified. What can I say?

“ Have…a nice time…” I said, knowing fully well they couldn't hear me and would have dived deep into their conversation. What could I do? I had no work on hand, no, I did. I had a paper to work on but I procrastinated, hoping there was still time to fool around, so I needed to do something fun. I looked around, basically nothing seemed interesting at that moment, including the P.S five I bought recently. I know that doesn't sound girly but who are you to object? Take it or leave it, it remains what it is.

An idea popped into my head. How about I do something creepy and unkind?, I thought I quietly tiptoed to the door and placed my ears on the door, I could barely hear anything but whispers. Hey, but I finally heard something as if they knew I strained my ears to eavesdrop on their conversation, and they lended a helping hand by increasing their voices.

“ That was the best night of my life.” Mason said. , could that be what their discussion is all about? Sex?

“ Really?” Mo  said, as if falling for his sugar coated words. Permit me though, I'll say most men say such to just get to spend the night with the daft girls, at least I'm speaking from experience.I prayed he wasn't that way; those kinds of guys.

Later on, I heard moaning sounds! Shit , they were having that stuff in my room, most of all, where I was going to lay my head after such a stressful day? I had silently wished he didn't come over but look now; the worse even happened, the two even…I stamped my feet and fell on the couch.  Sadly, I'm not a fan of sleeping on the couch but I guess I had to do it tonight. I could barely sleep; I was moving from one end of the settee to another and even decided to make use of a throw pillow to assist my head in being at peace but it was all to no avail. I had no choice but to lose my home training and laid on the bare ground, at least it was a bit comfortable, compared to the annoying coach, while Mo and Mason enjoyed their crazy night, making my ears ache.

My phone chimed and again, I had to get up to pick it up after getting into a comfortable position. What if it was an important SMS, Or work related?, I thought.

I grumbled but had no choice but to pick it up, only to see a message from my Mikel that read,

“YOU SHOULD BE AT WORK TOMORROW.” Hold on, the last time I checked, tomorrow was Saturday and I don't work on Saturdays, where then is this shit coming from?I felt livid at myself for even accommodating the thought of picking up the phone and now, my dizziness flew into the realm of concern as to why I needed to be at work tomorrow.

I firmly made up my mind that I was not even waking up early and would sleep till it was nine!. Besides, he ain't paying me no extra money!, not that he was my boss

There was no Victoria, no Jason nor the piece of trash in human form. Hmph, you know him, of course Mikel.“ Hello?” I said, hoping to get a response from obviously no one.My heart raced now, where could they have gone? I proceeded into looking for Jason first. Normally, that was where he hung out cause he secretly disclosed to me he had a crush on her, which was enough reason for him to be there, but nope, he wasn't.Wait, I just remembered the receptionist wasn't at her post either, what could be going on, I asked myself. Or could it be a prank? Because I had watched stuff like that on Tik Tok and they turned out to be pranks. Oh my, this wasn't getting funny anymore. I rushed to other offices and found no one. The night I waited for. It was cold. All were dressed in tuxedos, leaving the ladies in strapless dinner gowns.I silently cursed the decorator. You want to know why? The design was too luxurious and extravagant for my liking. See me talking like it was my party. Behave Leigh!, I cautioned myself. There were disco balls hanging and the DJ rocking different beats which I found inappropriate at the peak. Deep down, I knew it would have been Mason’s idea cause he was a party animal. From nowhere, I pitied the grumpy Logan Hunt, the big cheese of California. Perhaps he hated the decor as well.I only predicted that because of his cold character. Maybe he liked it.Then I sited Mo and Mason, vibing to the beats the DJ made. I deeply sighed at their foolishness. Then I saw them approaching me with a drink in their hands.“See who we have here Mo!” Mason said, still moving his body to the beats.“Yes. You're rocking this dress baby girl.” Mo said and shot me a grin.It was a red short straples

I quickly rushed back into the venue and got my equipment which sat quietly on a chair.“Good boy.” I commended it.I bravely walked with the equipment in my hands to the building where Mason pointed to.“You have to do this.” I muttered to myself .I had barely walked half the field when I realized it was a large one, like a standard football pitch. Then I wondered to myself, is this how far I will walk just to see Logan? Then I heard a voice scream my name in the distance, it was Mason's.“Leigh! Logan's POVThe train station was quiet, almost too quiet. I sat on a cold bench, staring at the empty platform. My head felt heavy, like I was carrying a weight I couldn’t drop. Leigh kept filling my thoughts. Her voice, her face, the way she looked at me when she was mad—it was all stuck in my mind. Why did she leave?I didn’t even know where she went. I didn’t know how to fix this. And the worst part? I wasn’t sure if I deserved to.I called Mason earlier, and told him to meet me here. He showed up ten minutes later, looking annoyed like always. His hands were shoved in his pockets, and his coat was zipped all the way up to his neck.“You really got me to leave my warm apartment for this?” he grumbled, sitting next to me on the bench.I didn’t answer right away. The air smelled fresher here, almost like rain even though the sky was clear. The platform was quiet except for a few people walking past me, their steps quick and purposeful.I didn’t know where to go next. I just knew I needed to be away. Away from Logan. Away from Mo. Away from the city where everything felt heavy.I pulled out my phone, checking for directions to the address of the place I had rented. It was a small room I found online the night before I left. The pictures didn’t look great, but it was all I could afford for now.As I walked down the narrow streets, I noticed how different this place was from the city. No tall buildings. No honking cars.
