In debt

I stormed into the house.

How coud that pathetic jerk disrespect me in such a manner?

Who does he think he is? Well, he is the co-founder of Sprockers but he had absolutely no right whatsoever to demean me in that manner.

I should have given him a slap on the face,or better still, spilled coffee on his shirt!  That would have taught him a great lesson.

“Calm down babe.”Mo said.

“I should have said something terrible that would pierce his heart of stone.

”At that moment, the clever things that I would have said that would probably hit him hard badged into my head.

“Mason never told me this was what you'd encounter.

I'm really sorry.”

“No, it's totally not his fault.

It's the asshole’s”.

“It's his fault.

Why didn't he give this Logan of a guy heads-up that you'd be there?”She meant it now.

She was in no way feigning concern. I hoped she wouldn't lash out at him.

“He wasn't present. Look, I'm done with talking about that fool.

How do I go about the project now?

I think I'd have to let go.”

“Those are words of a loser and clearly, you're not.Let's do away with the negative mindset.”

“Yes ma'am.

”I answered sarcastically, sighing.

In as much as said I was stepping down,

I wasn't really doing so.

I just accepted the thought and decided to let it out, perhaps to gain a little pity from Mo.

Leaving journalism was like dying without a cause which was unacceptable to me.

I was born for this!

To put down words on paper.

“Sadly no alternative plans now.”

“I guess I'l just headback to work and face reality as it has dawned on me.”

“Words of a loser …you know what? Just freshen up,we should go for a walk.”

“That's the last thing I'd do.

I'd better stay home in my warm blanket and flip through the pages of the new book I'm reading.”

``No wayyyy.

No way I'm letting you do that.Youcouldliterallylive your whole life reading books.

How cool is that? But guess what.”

“What?”

“I'm not letting you stay here.

You're coming with me.”She turned and picked a pair of my shoes I threw angrily.

“What's the worst thing you can do?” Iteased.

The highest she could do was probably deny me

her enchanted cookies, but she wouldn't do that, would she?

“I'll deny you my cookies.

”My mouth dropped open. How did she know what I was thinking.?

Had she become a witch overnight.

“What if I told you that's exactly what was in my mind.”

“I careless.

All I care about is AuntMo telling you to get dressed and go for a walk.

”She said sarcastically, turning to leave.

“You have no power in anyway, to order me around.”I claimed.

I wasn't willing to forfeit those cookies for anything in the world except…

“I'd advise you to have a second thought on that.”She shouted in the distance.

....

We strolled down the street of autumn Avenue.

The weather was quite cold and everyone had

their coat on and were chatting.

Thoughts merely wobbled in my head and I stared at Mo, hoping she could read my face but no, she was wearing a straight face, staring at someone in  a distance.

Could it be a man, I thought.

I tugged at her shoulder.

“Hey-”

“Uh?” she said, still gazing at the person.

“What are you staring at, with so much attention?

”We soon approached the “human”.Lo, it was

a lady, she was damping her face with a napkin, leaning on a pole. There reason behind Mo

staring so deep at a woman remained a mystery to me. I mean, a woman? The last time i checked, Mo was straight.

Mo left my side and approached the ady; she was in tears. She laid her hand on her left shoulder. The lady turned.

“I can't believe angels cry. ”Mo said.

What the hell was Mo saying? My eyes gaped open.

“What?” The lady asked, astounded. With no hesitation, I took Mo by the hand.

“This is no time and place to display your weirdness! ”I warned, trying to pull her away.

“Hey Leigh, trust me,  I got this. Just give me a few seconds.” She pleaded and I subconsciously

let goof her hand, at sea.

The lady just stared at us bewildered.

“What's the matter?

No need to cry. ”Mo consoled, wiping the tears off her maroon face?

“How can I trust you with my problems?”

“…cause immediatey I saw you,  my heart told met here was something wrong and you'd want

to share it with someone.

”The lady still kept a dissatisfied look.

“Look,” Mo continued.

“A friend of mine committed suicide due to depression. She had no one to share her problems with, which led to her commit suicide. Hey, I still regret that day till this very day.”

I didn't  remember Mo telling me any news of that  kind, or was she making it up to get the innocent lady to confide in her?Instantly, the lady hugged her tightly, crying harder now while Mo patted her hair.

The whole situation plainly made me look like the bad one and to make it all  worse, the scene had gained the attention of passersby.

“There is a restaurant down the street. Do you mind having something to snack on and talk about your problems?” Mosaid.

Not again.

What was Mo suggesting? She insisted I come out

for a walk and now she left me for a tota lstranger.

“Are you sure?”

“Totally, as long as you're okay with it.” She nodded. Mo turned to me with a face that inquired if I wanted to  come along.  Well I had no choice. I couldn't leave her alone with some random girl, so I tagged along.

The restaurant was quite exquisite. The customers minded their businesses as our eyes roamed around in search of a free seat.

Yes ,we found one. It was a seat near the glass partition.

“Goodday. Here is the menu, kindly tell me what you'll be willing to order.”

That was when Mo’s crook face jammed mine. She obviously didn't take her wallet along with

her, neither did I. With no doubt, she forgot when she made the offer. The lady noticed how

tense the air was, the stranded face Mo and I wore and the waitress s’face that asked several questions.

“Never mind,  bills on me. ”The lady said, trying to wear a smile.

I heaved a sigh of relief. Thank goodness she agreed to pay because at that point in time, Iwas in no mood to get embarrassed.

“We'll have meatballs and cheese.”Mo said.

“Sure!”  The waitress replied jovially and exited.

There was a pause.

“Who hurt you?”Mo asked.

“It has nothing to do with me.”The lady said.

“Pardon my manners, I'm Mo.”

“I'm Jane.”

I feigned clearing my throat, being left out of the introduction.

“What is it Leigh?”Mo asked.

“Don't you think you left me out during the introduction?Anyways, as the big head here said,

I'm Raleigh. ”I said, rolling my eyes jokingly.

Jane’s countenance changed for the worse.

She lowered her head when tears dropped from her eyes.Mo riskly tapped my hand,I kept mute and wondered why the sudden change of attitude from her was about.

“I'm seriously not In the mood to play around.”Jane said.

“ I'm really sorry. I never intended to make you feel this way.”Mo said, which made me feel a little bit of guilt.

How could I be joking around when someone is pouring her emotions?

“Do you want to talk about it now?”Moasked.

“This isn't something anyone would want to hear.”Mo paused for a while and touched her handsoftly, giving an assuring stare.

“I killed my boyfriend.”She said and looked up in fear.

My entire body went still.

My breathing paused for a second and everything for once sounded like a joke.

Killed?

“You're joking right?” Mo said.

“It was manslaughter” She said as the waitress walked in with a tray in her hand that had our orders.

“I'm sorry for interrupting.

Here are your orders.”

“Thank you.”I said.

“Go on.”Mo instructed.

“We were pillow fighting when suddenly he fell  to the ground and then-”she broke down.

I totally felt her agony but it was absolutely not really fault.

I could imagine such happiness she had

while playing and it turned sour.

“I'm so sorry.”Mo said.

“Life is never pleasant. But we all have to move on.”Isaid,inconsolation.

“It's so easy for you to say.

He left,he just left without saying goodbye.

How painful is it?”Tears gathered in my eyes.

I got her point.

No last goodbye,no last hug, no last kisses but just left into a world unknown.

“It's not your fault.You didn't kill him.”Mo said.

“I'll never forgive him.

How could he just leave?”Jane cried.

“Where do you take it from here now?” Mo asked.

“I'll probably turn myself up to the cops.”

“No, I won't let you do that.

You had nothing to do with this.”Mo insisted.

“She should-”I said and immedately, Mo and Jane looked at me,puzzled. “No,no,me wrong don't get me wrong.

What I'm trying to say is you have to turn yourself into the police ‘cause when his family finds out, they'll come after you, trust me.”

“I'll have to leave.”Jane said and picked her bag to leave.

“Please, don't leave.”Mo pleaded.

“I do not want to talk anymore.”She said and walked out.

“Good samaritan, hope your good act has finally dawned on you?” I said, confused.

“Can you be serious for once?” Mo said and gaped at me and ran after the lady.

What the heck just happened? Who was going to pay for what we ordered? I knew from the moment I saw her that she was no good, but me saying any of that would make me seemngly look like a bad person which made me decide not to give a attitude.

Mo walked back into our table.“She's gone.”She said, “Are you ready to listen to me now?”I said in a bit of anger.

“I know you're mad but let's look at it from my perspective,  I was only trying to show love which would probably make the world a better place.”

“And how did it turnout? ”I asked.

“Hey, you know it didn't turnout good enough but at least I tried to help. ”She said and had her seat.

“I understand you but I don't think you should do that to some random person.”

“I can't believe this just happened.”

“Hey, you shouldn't stress over some stranger’s issue, ignore it.”

“CanI?”

“Not after you tell me which friend of yours committed suicide. I'm pretty sure you made all that up.” I said and chuckled.

“No,I didn't make it up,It really happened ”

“Really?

Which of your friends?”

“Josephine.”

“Josephine? How come you never told me?”

“This is the exact reaction I was avoding because I know you'll keep lamenting about it.”She said,

“That's so sad.”

The waitress came over.Oh no, that's when it occurred to me that we had no way to pay the bills.

“Your bill is twenty dollars, miss. ”She said and handed the bill to me.

“Oh, emmm…there's a little problem.”I said.

“Ok, please go ahead.”

“We actually didn't come along with our purse, so…” I said, with fear,  wondering what next would happen. “You'll have to pay, miss, there's no two ways about it.”she said,  now with no smile on her face.

That's…that's what we're saying.

We don't have the money and the person meant to pay…is absent.”Mo said.

“I really can't do anything. I'll have to inform the manager.” She said,
