AMA POV

I walked into the apartment I shared with Radike, my roommate and switched on the lights. It was rather quiet meaning that she wasn't around. If she was, loud music would have been playing from her Beats Pill. She never lets me rest. Sometimes it was fun but other times it was flat out annoying.

I plopped myself down on my favorite maroon arm chair. I was so stressed. I looked around. Radike must have cleaned up. She's the one with a more flexible job than mine so she always cleans the house. And she never complained. I swear I love that girl.

We lived in a small but cozy apartment in Lekki phase one. It was an agent that brought me to Radike. It turned out she had an extra room and needed a roommate to share the cost with because the rents here were pretty expensive.

As my back hit the chair, my mind went back to my encounter with Femi this morning.

I didn't know what came over me when I shaded him. My fear of being played again over took my reasoning. And Femi was THE Yoruba demon. The worst of the worst. I couldn't let myself fall into his trap.

So I told him off.

It was stupid, being that he was in close relations with my boss and I could lose my job. But I didn't think he would be bothering me again.

The loud slamming of the door brought me out of my train of thought.

"Heyyy girl" Radike, my 5 ft 9 dark skinned roommate screamed like it's been long she saw me. That's how she was, joyful. She walked past me and took a seat on the long maroon sofa.

"Radike must you be so loud every time." I whined. I was tired and I needed peace.

"You're the one always behaving like a trailer ran into you." She said. Eyeing me up and down. Typical Radike, always trying to find a justification for her loudness.

I smiled and rolled my eyes "Just forget, how was your day?"

"Oh my day was fineee. You know the usual. Uche being romantic as hell" she said flipping her expensive human hair to reveal hickeys all over her neck.

I chuckled and shook my head "Radike, Radike, Radike!!! How many times did I call your name???"

Her face suddenly fell "Ama don't start please. You're only being self righteous because you're single. Don't be using your reggae to spoil my blues."

I laughed "I'm not saying you shouldn't date Radike I'm just saying that dating your boss and having sex in the office is a bit of a risk. Okay what if people find out?"

"We're being careful"

"Being careful by having sex in the office? Come on Radike. Your boss is the Chairman's only son. You have more to lose than he does." I adviced praying that she takes it.

"So what do you suggest I do?" She asked, finally understanding what I was driving at.

I smiled "Just stop the office sex. Get a room."

We laughed.

It was fun when Radike listened to me. She had a tendency of making bad decisions.

"So how was your day? Anything new?" She asked.

"The usual. Just that my boss finally awarded the factory contract. You wouldn't believe who got it" I started. She gave me a questioning look.

"Tuwomi Construction"

She gasped and jumped in her seat "Oh oh oh isn't that the construction company that built the new amusement park?"

"Yeah that one. But guess the owners. Let me give you a clue, they're three. Always on the blogs and trending on twitter..."

She gasped again, her jaw dropping "You don't mean the Yoruba.." I nodded.

"Oh My God. I hope they aren't coming after you." She said.

"I really wish I could affirm that honestly." I said in exasperation.

She gasped again looking at me with wide eyes. "NO! Who?" She blurted.

"You won't believe it. Femi."

"Whaaaatt? Olufemi Akinjola. Like the Oga kpata kpata of them all" Radike exclaimed, startling me.

I gave her a look "Yes now. You need to calm down, that's the only Femi in their group now."

Her eyes widened "Ama, Ama. Anyways, I don't need to tell you what to do about this shaa. Hope you didn't give him your number" she warned.

"Radike, you seem to forget who's the more rational one among the two of us." I said and her face fell. I held back a laugh.

"What's that supposed to mean?" She snapped.

"Nothing. But I'm shaa smarter than that" I said.

"Hmm better for you. But you know ehn Ama. I think you've been celibate for far to long. That Femi guy would be a good way to clean the cobwebs down there." Radike stupidly said wiggling her eyebrows at my. My head whipped in her direction. I frowned while she grinned at me.

I picked up a throw pillow and threw it on her head making her back hit the chair "You must be moving mad" I stated. Radike's laughter filled the room.

"Ma pa mi(Don't kill me) now Ama. I was only messing with you" she said smiling.

"Messing kill you there." I said trying not to smile. I needed to keep a serious face so she wouldn't joke with my celibacy or should I say, lack of a sex life.

"Ori e fo(You're mad)" Radike cursed making me giggle.

"Radike I'm hungry. I want Amala and Efo riro." I said giving her my best puppy dog eyes. She eyed me "So you can't go and prepare it abi." She asked and I smiled.

"Please nah Raddy. My one and only." I teased. A smile gradually broke out on her lips.

"You lucky that's what I want to eat." She said carrying her bag. As she stood up, my phone began to ring. I brought it out and saw that it was an unknown number.

As I pressed the green button, Radike sat back down as the gossip that she was to know who it was because she knew that I never got calls at night.

"Hello"

"Hello Amarachi. How are you" a deep male voice called out from the other line. The voice was so hoarse yet so soft. A voice I knew I'd heard before.

"Please who's this" I said, trying to sound as polite as possible.

"It's Femi Akinjola from Tuwomi. I'd like to say I made your acquaintance this morning."

My blood suddenly began to boil "What do you want, and how did you even get my number" I spat.

"Let's try talking and not spitting Amarachi. How does that sound?"

"Mr Femi, who gave you my number?" I said trying to be as calm as possible but on the inside I was mad. The nerve of this guy.

"Let's just say that I have my ways. Anyway the reason why I called is because I want to see you again. Say a date tomorrow night?"

I took a breather and looked at my friend knowingly who clapped her hands in amazement.

"Amarachi are you there?"

"I'm not going anywhere with you Mr Femi. If that would be all sir then have a good-"

"Ah ah ah.. I wouldn't do that if I were you."

"Meaning?"

"I suspected you would say that. So here's what's going to happen love. We go out for dinner tomorrow and your boss doesn't get to hear what you did this morning. Among others." He said sounding very smug. I was doing all I could to contain my anger. I was literally fuming.

"What the hell do you mean by among others?" I spat. I looked at Radike who was still silent and looking on in amusement.

"Watch your tone Amarachi.." he said calmly but authoritatively which only spiked up my rage. "I think you would find out what I mean when you don't agree to my terms."

"The hell I will"

"Suit yourself love"

"Why are you doing this??"

"It should be obvious by now. I'm taking what I want."

"I'm sure that obviously means my body and I will never give in to you." I stated as a matter of fact. I couldn't let him think he could play me like he played the other girls he had dealt with.

"Not your body love. You." And the line went dead.

Femi.I felt so bad for not answering my fiancée. I looked and saw a text from her. “Hey, I know you’re probably busy. You wouldn’t believe what just happened. I’m so happy. Gahhhh call me when you can. Ly x” the text said.I didn’t want to dampen her own mood in any way. She seemed very happy about what was going on around her. I was still sad and emotionally downcast and I knew if I spoke to her in this mood she was going to leave everything she was doing and appear in my office. I would really appreciate her presence now but I also didn’t want to spoil her happiness. I decided to text her saying that I was going to be in a long meeting and I would come pick her up when she’s ready to go. She texted back for acknowledgement. I dropped my phone and sighed, placing my head in my hand. I seemed to be doing that a lot.In my mind, I was trying to picture how this woman could even be remotely related to me. I had to keep telling myself “my parents are dead”. Whoever this woman was, she

Femi.Today was a good day. I was very giddy while entering the office and it wasn't even about anything that I did or was going to do. I was just very glad that Ama was finally getting her flowers. It was vivid in my mind how she would always talk my ears full on how many ideas she has for the Lays project even when it was not set in stone that she was going to handle it with Kechi industries. She had so much passion for this that i knew she was going to do very well with it.As i walked into the office i was greeted by the front desk representative and before i could leave the lobby she said "There's someone here to see you sir. She said she is your mother." She said.I frowned. My mother never came here before. It was strange that she was here. "Okay where is she?" I asked. I hoped for her sake that she didn't send my 'mother' to my office."The conference room" she said. We already have a deal with Pepsi who are the primary owners of the Lays brand. It is such a big brand in the US. Now we have to latch on to the brand more to be able to keep our relationship. We already have the Quaker Oats deal because we asked them for it and that is why Quaker Oats is no longer an imported brand. Now is the time to take Lays. This will mean that Lays would be cheaper here in Nigeria and would make more sales, generating revenue for the company. We need to design the product and pitch it to Pepsi for approval and rights." Ama.The meeting went from project to project until it finally got to my turn. The Lays Project. Shawn smiled when he saw it. He had texted me before today that I had to come and defend the project in front of the board. They had approved it but wanted to know if I knew what I was doing. They are very unserious because I was the one who came up with this idea so what more did they want? I however, tried to study what had already been rendered and made slides to display what I was about to say.I stood up and walked over to the front of the conference room and started my presentation. I was looking around at the faces before I started and my eyes landed on Shawn. He gave me a small smile and a nod. I felt more confident as I was feeling nervous before.
