99. Cowardly

Emma watched in despondency as her wrists were now being shackled. The heavy metal weighed down her arms and subdued by defeat, Emma ceased fighting back. She watched as the men attached the shackles to the iron bars of the prison cell, ensuring that there was no she could escape using her own might. Suddenly, she felt a stinging pain on her back and she was quick to realize that it was a whip. It was the same man who dragged her down that held the tool, raising it above his head so he struck her once more.

Despite the pain, Emma held back her cries. No, she couldn’t give him the satisfaction, not when she knew that her tears would hardly stir any sympathy in that stone of a heart he had. The evil man soon picked up on that and gave her a menacing look that challenged her resolve. His blows became harsher, yet Emma wouldn’t yield. When he was tired from tormenting her, he stepped back, staring at her with incredulity.
