A chill ran down Emma’s spine as she heard him. Alpha Anthony? Why did he want to capture her? How did he even come to know of her presence here? As far as she was aware, Jamie had tried to keep it a secret from everyone. He shifted her to his private residence because he didn’t want anyone to know about her presence. Then how did his father of all people come to know of her? Could there have been a mole in the house? Did one of Jamie’s men betray him? That could be the only possibility.

“Your man did a wrong thing by revealing to his father about you.” The man continued to speak, clutching her hair until he elicited pain. “Nobody can save you now. Not even your mate himself.”

Emma’s eyes widened in surprise. Jamie told his father about her? Why the hell would he do that?

Perhaps it was inevitable, but he couldn’t possibly have told him she was rogue. That news was definitely given to him by someone else, and Emma could easily guess who. Fucking hell!

Emma watched in despondency as her wrists were now being shackled. The heavy metal weighed down her arms and subdued by defeat, Emma ceased fighting back. She watched as the men attached the shackles to the iron bars of the prison cell, ensuring that there was no she could escape using her own might. Suddenly, she felt a stinging pain on her back and she was quick to realize that it was a whip. It was the same man who dragged her down that held the tool, raising it above his head so he struck her once more. Despite the pain, Emma held back her cries. No, she couldn’t give him the satisfaction, not when she knew that her tears would hardly stir any sympathy in that stone of a heart he had. The evil man soon picked up on that and gave her a menacing look that challenged her resolve. His blows became harsher, yet Emma wouldn’t yield. When he was tired from tormenting her, he stepped back, staring at her with incredulity. “You think you’re made of tough shit, huh?” He said, but Emma rema

Emma could hear her own beat as she contemplated what Frieda just told her. Her plan wasn’t flawless, there were way too many risks involved; the both of them could get killed within a minute of this failing, but yet, she believed it was worth giving a shot. She could possibly escape from these evil men for once and never have to come back. From what Frieda told her, she would be set free too. Emma left a sigh of exasperation as she looked at the iron bars of the cell. Frieda assured her that it was recently built and had a faulty foundation holding it together. Once she shifted to her wolf, it wouldn’t be so hard to break it open. After that, she was instructed to head toward Jamie’s room, where there was another path leading to the outside of the house, taking which the two of them could head into the forest. “I’m going to head upstairs, Emma.” She said, "As soon as I’m out of the cell, you do what I told you, alright?” With uncertainty, Emma nodded her head. She had no other opt

“Can this thing go any faster?” Jamie growled from the passenger seat. Rafa shot a irritated look toward his side from beside him, Calm the fuck down, Jamie-”“Calm down?” Jamie said, incredulously. “You tell me my wife is being held captive by own father and you ask me to calm down?” It hadn’t been longer than an hour since the two of them started their journey back home. As the news from Jamie’s private residence regarding his father’s intrusion reached them, Jamie didn’t waste a second before getting onto his feet. And now, despite raging on the road at top speed, it felt like this journey would take up an eternity. He was growing impatient by each passing second, millions of gruesome images flooding his brain. “Well, nothing good is going to come out of it anyway, Jamie.” He groaned, “Calm down and think about how we can control the situation.” Control the situation? Jamie scoffed. This was never supposed to happen in the first place. There should never have been a question of

Emma shuddered against the cold breeze striking against her skin. Gone was the warmth she cocooned herself in as she fell asleep, and now, covered by a thin cloth, she felt the hair raise up on her body. Her throat was dry, and the cold air burned against her nose as she reeled a shaky breath in. Suddenly, she felt fully aware of her body. She felt a soreness in her entire body accompanied by some raise in temperature. She noticed that it hurt to even move a limb, and she couldn’t help but groan at the feeling. Right then, she felt aware of someone’s touch on her shoulder, slowly turning her. When she first opened her eyes, it was all dark and blurry, barely helping her make out anything. She could hear someone whisper against her ear, but she struggled to find coherence in them. Defeated, she closed her eyes once again, drifting back into slumber. When she next awoke, Emma realized that she was moving. Within a few seconds, she could tell that she was in a vehicle, possibly a car

Aiden was Jamie’s old acquaintance.Apart from being one of his loyal members of the pack, he was also known for his exceptional healing abilities. Many times in the past, Jamie had heard about him curing multiple ailments in his friends and family members with utmost ease and simplicity. He had tackled various medical conditions that were once diagnosed as untreatable and saved several people from the crux of death. Alpha Anthony was so impressed with his prowess that he invited him to stay at the mansion with them, serving as their personal physician, but Aiden declined. He liked living in a remote village, growing up around his people and serving his pack in whichever way he could. Still, people from all around the province come to him for his help, and Aiden never turned them away. Hence, when Jamie realized how severely she was injured, he knew that it was only Aiden that could help them in this hour of need. And he had been right. Throughout the journey, Emma’s condition progr

“It worked, Jamie.” Aiden’s eyes crinkled at the edges as a bright smile spread across his face. After having spent the better part of the night trying to find a cure, it was evident how relieved and pleased he was with himself when he finally found success. “The antidote we administered, it was the right one. She had shown drastic improvement in the past few hours.” “She’s awake now?” Jamie asked, his eyes eagerly looking toward the room she was resting in. “She is, yes.” Aiden nodded. “She is asking for you. Go ahead.” Jamie muttered a quick thanks before he slowly started making his way towards her. A peculiar feeling crept up his chest, a sort of hesitance holding him back. It was not the first time he was seeing her, but the nervousness he felt was rather apparent. In a way, he was scared to face her, for he had no idea how this was going to go. She did tell him that it wasn’t his fault, but he couldn’t help but worry about her reaction. She might not blame him for what happe

Once Emma was shifted to her room, she rested there the entire day. Jamie spent most of his time outside, filling Aiden in about what happened and how they ended up seeking refuge in his house. As anticipated, Aiden assured him that they could stay with him for as long as they wanted. “I can imagine the turmoil amongst people back home.” Aiden said, smiling knowingly. “It’s unrealistic to expect them to accept a rogue. Until the tension dies down, you are free to stay here.” “That’s generous of you, Aiden.” Rafa said, “But it’s not safe for us to stay anywhere for too long. We don’t mean to cause you any trouble for helping us out. Give us a couple of days until Emma fully heals and we’ll be on our way.” Jamie agreed with it too. It was unfair to impose danger on Aiden merely for helping a friend in need. He had to figure out a way to escape before his father figured out where he was. As the day neared the end, Jamie headed back to his room. Dragging his feet up the stairs, he won

“Before I answer your questions, you need to know that there is a lot to me that you are not aware of yet.” He said, “I never wanted to lie to you, so I always kept various parts of me hidden. It wasn’t because I didn’t trust you enough with it, but because I was afraid that you would not find them acceptable. I did not enjoy it one bit, Emma. I valued your transparency more than anything, and I wanted to be able to open up to you too, but I had to wait for the right moment. I had to know that you were ready to hear me, the entirety of me, before I could tell you anything.” Emma’s eyes switched with uncertainty, but she remained mute, allowing him to continue. “My name is not Jamie, Emma.” He said, “I was born Christopher James Rogers. Most of my friends and family call me Chris. It was after I joined the brotherhood that I picked up the name Jamie Lewis. Jamie is a short form of my middle name, and Lewis was my mother’s surname before she got married. I began using that name profes

Emma released a strangled cry as he neared her. Inching backwards, she tried to get up on her feet and get away from him, but she couldn’t. Before she could do so much as raise up on her feet, he kicked her down, stamping his foot on her chest. Crouching down, he held her hands and pinned them to the ground, rendering her immobile. She widened her eyes as he inched his face closer to her, feeling completely helpless within the confines of his body. “Let me go!” She screamed, eyes filled with fear. “Please!” “You deserve to die in my hands, just like that bastard that tried to take away my daughter.” He said, “These hands have killed so many of you, you think you will be spared my mercy? Never. I’d rather die than let you go.”Raising his knife, he angled it right above her abdomen. Emma’s eyes widened in surprise as she realized what he was doing. Her baby.. No! Emma released a tearless sob as pushed the flush button on her commode. Leaning back onto her heels, Emma sat down on the bathroom floor as her head began to spin. It was the third time in a row today that she was retching in the bathroom, emptying all of her stomach’s content. She had no clue why she fell so sick suddenly that she couldn’t even keep a glass of water inside her. It was perhaps due to the stress that she’s been experiencing lately, which only aggravated as Jamie left her alone there. She felt her body burn as beads of sweat collected on her forehead. Wiping it off, she slowly reached for the wall for support and brought herself to stand on her feet. Although wobbly, she made her way to the basin and ran the tap, splashing some water on her tired face. As she looked into the mirror, she realized that she looked hideous. Dark circles covered the skin under her eyes as her face shrunk to reveal her bones. She looked visibly dehydrated, in desperate need of help and rest.

The emotion within Jamie swirled in all its fury, growing so magnanimous that he struggled to contain it within himself. He felt himself shake, growing suffocated with each passing second. He could no longer stay in the room. His feet took him away from his mother, going to the window. As he reached it, he swung them open and shoved his head out, reeling in a deep breath. He felt beads of sweat trickle down his forehead and along the tip of his cold nose. She felt a touch on his shoulder then, urging him to turn around but he resisted. “Jamie, please.” His mother sobbed, “Look at me.” “Get out of here.” He said in a low voice. “Jamie…” “I don't want to look at you.” He said, whirling around. “You and your husband, what a fucked up pair you are. That was bloody loyal of you, mother.” “What else was I supposed to do?” She cried, “If I had revealed the truth to you, he would’ve killed me too.” Jamie scoffed, looking away. There

Jamie could hardly get the scenes of that afternoon out of his mind. Any lingering hope he had regarding his father instantly diminished as he realized up to what extent he was willing to go to keep the aims of the brotherhood fulfilled. As he rolled on his bed, he realized that perhaps he made a mistake coming here, for he could now see the true nature of his father. At least if he was away, he could have found comfort in the misbelief that his father was a good man, a man who had the heart to at least spare some mercy on an unborn child. But now, he was facing the dark reality he would prefer to have avoided. He didn’t need to know that his father had zero regard for what Jamie wanted and cherished. His aim was more important to him than Jamie’s happiness, and if it meant killing his wife and child for it, then so be it. “You cannot let a rogue carry your child, Jamie. How could you have made that mistake?” His father had said that afternoon. “She is my wife.” He said. “That is

The tension in the air was palpable, making Jamie remain alert to every small movement. The familiar scent of wood and musk was hardly making him feel at home, rather, he felt out of place. Although it had been a mere few days since he was last at this place, it felt like an eternity ago, merely in the wake of everything that had happened in the past few days. Jamie shoved his hands into his pants pockets as he looked over the view from the window, watching over the people that roamed around in their backyard. Nothing was out of the ordinary, but it felt so different to his people once again. When he first arrived at his father’s house, he was greeted by the same people he once assumed to be his loyal friends. Just in a matter of a week, they revealed their true colors and proved to him that they would always remain loyal to the pack and its leadership. He knew he couldn’t blame them, for they were merely doing their job, but he couldn’t help the distaste he’s developed against them

Goodbyes were never easy. There was seldom anything good about your loved one leaving you. Whether it was to reach better places or to go back to fix things in the past, a departure always came with a possibility that the distance they’re going to create between them might be permanent. A harmless journey once took her entire family away from her, and she had no reason to believe that it might never happen again. As Emma watched him pull the zipper of his bag close, she realized that it was time. When he first broke the news that he would be going back home to settle things with his father, she was elated. It was precisely what she wanted him to do and she was glad he made up his mind without her having to reopen the conversation. However, as the night progressed, the reality of it sank in, a new fear creeped inside her. She struggled to accept that he was going to come back to her within a few days as promised, and instead, her mind tried its best to convince her that nothing in her

“How are things faring?” Jamie said as he overlooked the lush greens of the mountain top. He had just stepped out to have a word with Rafa while Emma got busy with preparing dinner for the two. After reaching their new house, the two of them were occupied with cleaning it and making it comfortable for use for a few days. Since it was rather cold than at home, Jamie had to step out into the forest to find some wood for the fire. After it was all set up, Jamie received a message from Rafa that things have calmed down and that he could reach him whenever he pleased. Jamie instantly stepped out as he was eager to know what happened. “It was alright.” Rafa replied, “The men have arrived a few minutes after you have left and were surprised that we have managed to get you out of here. We tried to sell them some bullshit, but they obviously didn’t fall for it. They could understand that we planned your escape, but that was about it. They couldn’t do anything more than that. As the night progressed, Emma lost track of time. Jamie refused to give in to her demands, yet kept her in a constant high throughout. Sparing no mercy for her desperation, he had his way with her, and by the end of it, they both collapsed on the bed. The last memory she had was of Jamie pulling her back against his chest, burying his face in her neck as he whispered to her, “I love you.”She fell into a peaceful slumber after that, chasing her dreams in the darkness. When she was next transported back into reality, she jolted awake to the someone banging on the door. She woke up with a gasp, looking at Jamie who had just risen up. Pushing the duvet off his body, he quickly donned his shorts and headed to the door. Light flooded into their room as he opened the door and the person on the other side started speaking. Careful not to crush her under his weight, he pulled her legs apart and wrapped it on either side of his hips. He rolled beside her and pulled him along so that she could be sprawled across his body. Resting her head atop of his shoulder, he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I realized that y
