HUDSON’S POV
“Who would have thought that we would be free of that ungrateful brat?” Mom beamed, casting me a meaningful look. “I know, right? Good riddance to bad rubbish." Aunt Claire added with a chuckle. “What’s important now is for Charlotte to nurse her health; my grandson can’t suffer any more stress, okay?” “Yes, aunt, I will be careful now,” Charlotte said with a big smile. “Nonsense, call me mom,” my mom gushed out. And it only made Charlotte smile brighter. It was comforting to see her smiling now, rather than shed those tears that broke my heart. Suddenly, Valerie’s crying face flashed through my mind. Her pouty pink lips, trembling from holding back tears that dripped down those soft cheeks. A strange feeling overtook my body at the memory and left a bitter taste in my mouth, but I immediately pushed it down. She tried to hurt Charlotte and my unborn children as well. That’s unforgiveable! “Baby, baby, are you okay?” Charlotte gently tapped me. I blinked in surprise. “Yeah, yeah, I am good,” I coughed out. “But you’ve barely touched your food,” she said worriedly. “Are you sure you’re okay, son? Getting a divorce is never easy; maybe you should reconsider and fix things with Valerie, don’t you think?” Father said calmly. This was the first time I heard his voice since Valerie left this afternoon. I opened my mouth to reply, but mom beat me to it: “My son said he is fine, so he is fine! Why wouldn’t he be fine?” “But- “The woman he loves is right here, carrying his child. If not for that seductress who confused Grandpa into marrying her to Hudson, Charlotte would have been married to this family from the start.” Mom was right about that, though. Despite how Valerie tricked her way into my life, I never tried to deceive her. From the start, I told her about my feelings for Charlotte. I let her live in this prestigious house under the title of my wife. I even let her continue with her studies, but all she did was fail repeatedly, wasting my money and resources. She even almost burned down one of my villas out of jealousy for Charlotte. And now, despite what she did to Charlotte, I offered to let her live with us. I was willing to drop the issue of divorce, only that she apologized for what she did. But no! She went right ahead and stubbornly signed the damn papers! Trampling all over my good intentions. Humph! She doesn’t know what’s coming for her. I already had my men searching for her, and when I do find her, I will sue her for damages! “Right son?” I looked up, realizing I had been clenching my spoon a bit too hard. I was about to reply when my phone rang. I checked the ID, and it was James, my right-hand man. It’s about time. “Excuse me, I have to take this.” I grunted out and went directly to the large window in the living room, far away from the dining room. “Boss,” James greeted. “You found it, right?” I went straight to business. "No, boss, it came back invalid.” “Invalid?” I asked, a deep frown in my face. “How can you say the plate number is invalid? She got into that goddamned car!” I growled as a new sense of dread washed over me. Valerie made a call just before she left, and I watched her from this very spot as she got into a car. I had thought she had called a taxi, but come to think of it, that car was way too flashy to be a taxi. My heart hammered in my chest as thoughts of her being kidnapped flooded my mind. I shouldn’t feel this way for a woman who killed one of my unborn children and for whom I 'clearly' had no feelings. But I couldn’t help it; she had to be okay for me to sue her, right? “Find her, James; do everything; get whoever on board; just find her!” I spat angrily and cut the line immediately. “It’s for the lawsuit. For the lawsuit,” I reminded myself. ****************** 5 YEARS LATER “Perfect! It’s great doing business with you, Mr. Brickz.” “You too, Mr. Rodriguez,” he said sternly as we shook hands. “A date will be passed across to you for the signing; our CEO will be present as well.” “I finally get to meet him; look forward to it,” I concluded in relief, and he left. “Life is so good,” I mumbled while pouring myself a glass of champagne. With a sip, I stared at the buildings before me through the vast glass windows of my office, mentally counting the buildings I owned in the city. And a big smile forced its way through my face. “Aaah, nothing will hold back the project now.” I said with a sigh. The best men for the job were now on board, from the construction to the furnishing of “Sky Castle.” My legacy, which I would pass on to my children. The project was budgeted to make an estimated figure of $400 billion annually. It was a good investment and held no risks that I could not handle. Only that big-headed CEO of De Hernandez Dreamz was proving to be difficult. He almost caused me huge problems. Who does he think he is? Just because his company had such massive growth that went even beyond borders, he felt he could put up airs, and kept me hanging for so long. As much as I hate to admit it, they were good at what they do. Their designs and quality were second to none. Being the number one in the design and furnishing business was no joke. Good thing he was now on my side; I just needed to sign the paperwork, and everything would be official. ***** “You’re leaving? Isn’t it a bit too early?” I paused just at the center of the huge living room and took a scan of the neat and cold kitchen area, then back to the blonde-haired woman that was once an excitement to me. “No breakfast?” “Oh, no. Your mom gave the maids an off day today,” Charlotte replied, and she continued to munch on peanuts. Something Valerie would never have done. She used to prepare a yummy breakfast and even pack me lunch before I was ready for work every day. Deep inside of me, I do miss that. With a sigh, I walked off. Today was the big day. Greenland Holdings and De Hernandez Dreamz will officially become partners today. And I finally get to meet that damned CEO. “Good luck today! It’s such a pity I can’t join you; Aby has a school function today,” Charlotte called out behind me. “Kiss her goodbye for me,” I replied calmly. The name of our daughter instantly uplifted my spirits. “Let’s go, James.” ***** "Congratulations, Mr. Rodriguez.” ‘Congratulations again, sir,” was all that filled the air, directed at me, and I basked in the glory of it. But then, an hour later, it didn’t seem so good anymore. The luxuriously furnished hall was full to the brim with different respectable men of different calibers and paparazzi flashing their cameras at every corner of the hall. But still, there was no sign of the people from De Hernandez Dreamz. “What the fuck is going on?!” I growled angrily at my assistant. These people better not back out now; otherwise, I’m going to sue every last one of them! “Sir, I- “The CEO from De Hernandez Dreamz is here!” Someone suddenly screamed, and immediately all eyes went to the entrance of the hall. Cameras were flashing furiously at the coming entourage of suited men at the entrance. “Fucking pompous jerk,” I growled under my breath and straightened up to welcome my ‘dear’ business partner. The entourage fully entered the hall and slowly parted to present a ... woman?? I almost choked on my breath at the sight before me. She was clad in an exceptionally sown white, pristine suit that did justice to the well-endowed curves of her body. Her every stride in those white pointy heels exuded poise and remarkable confidence that had the hairs on my skin rising. Her shiny honey brown hair was held up in a high ponytail, leaving her absolutely gorgeous face to be captured by the cameras. I felt myself swallow deeply the more I stared; I couldn’t help it. She was stunning! But as she got closer, I felt my heartbeat beat faster, and the frown on my face got deeper. “Boss, is that?” I heard James call out beside me, but he seemed so far away as my heartbeat grew louder and louder in my ears until one word registered in my brain. “Boss, that is- "Valerie,” I said breathlessly.VALERIE’S POV “Ma’am?” Rob, my assistant, called out for the third time since we arrived at the building for the signing. We are currently in the underground parking lot kept specially for VVIPs. It's been almost 30 minutes and I still couldn’t find it in me to get down from the car. Trust me, this was not the first time I had to come for a partnership signing, but this was the first time I would be seeing Hudson after our divorce. If I said I wasn’t tense about it, I would be lying. It’s been 5 years already, but it still seemed like yesterday. The memories of him and his family are still fresh on my mind. And especially today, it felt more like an open wound. Liam had repeatedly offered to come on my behalf, to save me the heartache, but I refused. This was my fight. After my experience with them, I fought constantly to be who I am today, building up my walls and confidence that they had trampled upon so ruthlessly. And I most definitely cannot let one meeting shatte
VALERIE'S POV“Mommy!” “Oh no,” I moaned, paused mid-air, and gritting my teeth at my poor attempt to tiptoe to my room.“I can see you mummy, there’s no need to hide” Mason said in his ‘as a matter of fact’ tone.I sighed ‘Okay Okay, you got me.” I said with a soft smile and raised my hands in defeat. But he didn’t seem phased at all, he just stared at me with a bored expression.I had to change tactics then. “Oh, baby, you shouldn’t be up, look at the time. Gosh!” I exclaimed.“Mommy you deceived us!” Miley voice rang out from the kitchen. “Me?” I replied with fake disbelief.Almost immediately sounds of her little flip flops filled the air as she ran to the living room, with an …ice cream coated hair??“Whoa! What’s with your hair?” I exclaimed and touched her hair; it was indeed ice cream.I looked at her tiny frowning face for explanation, but she just huffed and turned to the side. “Little Miss dramatic huh?” I teased as a slight chuckle left my lips.Just then, I heard tiny fe
HUDSON’S POV “James?” “James!” I roared, glaring daggers at anyone that dared gave me side glances. “Yes, boss” he replied and immediately appeared at my right-hand side. “I need every single detail about Valerie and all her movements from the last 5 years!” “Yes boss, I completely understand” he replied hastily. “And this time, do it right!” I barked and tugged the keys of my black Bentley out of his hands. With anger surging inside of me, I just turned on the car and sped off, away from the building for the event. Most important guests were gone already and that bloody twat was the very first to leave! The nerves! Leaving me behind to the guests like I was some errand boy of hers! She even dared to threaten me. Me! "Can you believe it?" I chuckled darkly, my annoyance increasing. After 5 years of her disappearing on me, she shows up and does this? Pretending like I never existed? That gold digging bitch! She had clearly found a new rich man to prey on, one that even allow
HUDSON'S POVName: Valerie Ann Marie Hernandez Status: CEO and sole heir of De Hernandez Dreamz Marital status: Single Legal Guardian: Henry Hernandez Relationship: Grandfather and chairman of De Hernandez Dreamz Parents; Dead"Valerie, you bloody liar!" I growled, roughly running my hands through my hair. It's been complete 20 minutes since I found out that Valerie was indeed a member of the Hernandez family. The very family that owned and ran the biggest corporation centered on furniture designing and decor. You know what's worse? She was not even just a mere family member but the sole heir! The fucking CEO!This had got to be some sort of trick right? but James sources were always legit. And I for one, had always thought Liam Hernandez was the CEO of De Hernandez Dreamz. He WAS the CEO, but that was only until 5 years ago. It was clearly stated in the file. The same 5 years ago that Valerie signed the damned divorce papers and walked out on me.So, that was the reason she di
HUDSON’S POVAfter recovering from my initial shock, I glared at my phone and my voice dropped dangerously low. “Look here you conniving little cheat, I have your life in my hands. So, it will do you well to speak to me nicely! While you still can that is,” I growled out.The line became silent, good. At least she knows when to listen. Before I could take another breath, a loud crackling laughter flowed through my phone speakers. What? Is she... laughing? This is funny to her?"Oh, my, you..." she started, her words dissolving into uncontrollable laughter. The sound of her crackling giggles filled the air, taunting me with each passing moment. My face darkened into a tight scowl, the more she laughed. My brow furrowed into the most intense frown I'd worn in years as I stood stiff, my hands clenched into fists at my sides, listening to her struggle to compose herself between gaps of laughter. "My goodness!... That was... hilarious Hudson, were you trying to scare me or something?” Sh
VALERIE POVI stared at my phone; incredulity clear in my features as my screen went off, his number disappearing from my view “What just happened?” I asked out loud and took a scan of my environment to ensure no one heard my banter with that arrogant, selfish, overbearing, ignorant… “argh! What other word can I use to describe that dick head!” I groaned, annoyed by everything.“I can’t believe he called to threaten me. What’s his problem??” Yes, I did not use my full name before but that doesn’t give him the right to question my capacity. I worked my ass off, had several late-night studies, thinking of strategies and new ideas, even while I was pregnant!I never took a day off, never took a holiday. I mean how could I? My very own family members were seeking for any possible loophole to drag me down. I couldn’t give them that satisfaction. And finally, all my efforts paid off, no one dared to question my capacity after several hit business deals, I got. But come now, some arrogant
VALERIE'S POVI just stood there, speechless. After a moment of shock, my chest started heaving up and down from the amount of adrenaline coursing through my veins. My breathe was coming out in sharp gaps and my heartbeat drummed inside my ears. I had to hold onto the stairs trails for support, otherwise I might just fall off the remaining steps of the stairs. Did I just run down the stairs like a mad woman for this? How can…how... “What the hell is going on here?!” I yelled, still fighting to calm my raged breathing while my eyes blazed in anger. They all went quiet, everyone pausing in their tracks.“Uh uh, mommy’s mad at someone,” Miles little voice sang out and he immediately dropped the pancake he was about eating. I ran my gaze over each of them, the scowl on my face deepening the more I took in the situation. A pile of pancakes stacked high up like a mountain sat on the table in the living room, strawberry and chocolate syrup was spilled all over the living room table.Mile
VALERIE POV "C’mon guys, chop chop, let's go!" I called out for the third time since I came downstairs. These kids… I’m the lady in the house, with all the makeup and normal womanly delays I somehow still end up ready before those 3. “You guys! I’m going to be late for work, come downstairs, will you?” I said, flinging my arms up in disbelief. After few moments of no reply, I decided to take more action than just standing and yelling to myself, because it seems that was exactly what I was doing, talking to myself. I moved to the kitchen island and grabbed my keys, making sure to jingle the bunch in the process, “I am leaving your asses behind,” my voice rang out, higher than before now, using the keys to make a whole lot of noise like I was opening the front door. It seemed to work too because in seconds a pair of dirty blonde hair and green eyes showed up at the top of the stairs, Miles. His green orbs searched the living room frantically and when they finally met mine in the li
VALERIE'S POVWait for her, for her mind … because that is where her problem is. The accident and the suddenness of everything that happened left a scar on her, it was too much and her already delicate mind couldn’t take it. So, it shut down completely. Like her brain went on an overdrive on the day of the accident and something just snapped. Her mind only did what it thought as necessary to save itself and that was shutting down. There was no medicinal cure for it, everything just depended on her. The only thing we could do was take care of her physically, help her with her therapy sessions and try to make her life as normal as possible in other to trigger her normal self back home. The situation really was… sad.So sad, that I couldn’t stop imagining the level of shock such a little girl must’ve gone through when she found herself flying through the windscreen of a car that was on high speed and getting smashed against the iron bars of the estate gates. I couldn’t imagine… it was he
VALERIE’S POVA FEW MONTHS LATER“Mommy?”“Mommy where are you? I’m going to be late again!” Her whiny voice complained, causing me to hasten up a bit amidst the pile of colored ballet shoes.Purple slippers… purple slippers, purple slippers… where are you?Ugh, goodness me!“Where is it?!” I grumbled, totally exasperated by this absolutely annoying search that I had to do right now. This is a pair of shoes I would always see here, amidst all these other shoes but somehow, today when I actually need it, I can’t see it anywhere!“Mommy!”“I’m coming!” I sounded out, groaning in distress as I quickly grabbed a white pair before rushing out of the room and down the stairs. Anything was better than nothing at this point. Besides, white goes with any color, right? A white on purple wasn’t so bad right?“I’m coming, sweetie. Mommy is coming!” I called out, taking the steps two at a time just to get down in time before Miley would bring down the entire building with all her impatient screami
VALERIE’S POV“I will go first,” he said, facing me completely on the seat. I just nodded, relaxing my right arm on the seat so I could face him too. This position left little distance between us, but it was comforting. It felt warm, and I loved it too.I really have been loving a lot of things these days, haven’t i?“I- I want to apologize to you” he started,“For?”“For been such an idiot. For been unreliable, childish, the worse possible husband you could have gotten when we were younger! I was… you were a victim, a victim of my family’s messed up ways. It was like everyone had an agenda 5 years ago; mom wanted to pair me and Charlotte, Grandpa wanted to pair you and I, my father… my father wanted to save his ass and let the rest burn, and me… I wanted to prove Grandpa wasn’t right about everything concerning me! Everyone had a game plan, everyone except you.”“You were just yourself and so real… that’s why we couldn’t stand you. You became the victim, an innocent victim in all our
VALERIE’S POV“Is everything ready?”“Yes Val, she’s leaving now. Like right now” Rob droned, obviously tired of my repeated calls in the past 30 to 40 minutes. But could you blame me? I was the worried one right here. I mean, with Hudson aggressively sweeping through everything that has to do with or had somewhat any connection to do with Drake and Charlotte, I was bound to get worried for Lucia!I couldn’t let him get to her now he was in his beast mode.He hadn’t even come to the hospital ever since he left that morning after walking in on my conversation with Rob at the cafeteria. I admit, his features did seem gloomy but that was to be expected after receiving so much information about those around in a short span of time. It was a lot.Just a lot! And right now, he seemed to be pouring all his anger in a different direction. And that is by raiding every possible lair Drake could be hiding, taking anyone in his part too! But the crazy thing is, these people weren’t going to the p
CHARLOTTE’S POV“But no worries! You will be leaving soon enough.” She continued, her tone housing an unmistakable mockery that just angered my spirit the more her I listened to her. “I just wanted to ask how the quick lift was but I guess there’s no need for that anymore. With the way you gulped down that chilled water, you must be stressed! But stress is good though, don’t get me wrong.”“It prepares you; you know. For what is to come, at least for you right now…”“Wah… what are talking about, you fucking bitch?!” I snapped, losing all my shit right there and then! I have had enough of her, honestly!“First of all, I’m not in your house! You don’t know where I live or where I currently am, Valerie! Stop trying to get in my head! It worked at the hospital doesn’t mean it will work on me again! You think I don’t know what you did? You think I don’t know how you played everything yesterday?! Those fucking family members may be blinded by you but I’m not! I’m not blind at all, Valerie a
CHARLOTTE’S POVInstantly my neck snapped in her direction, eyes wide as alarm sprung in my heart. “What?” “Madame,”“Wah…what did you say?” I stammered, blinking repeatedly as i tried to see through the rage of emotions swelling up from within me right now; confusion, alarm, disbelief and above all… fear. Fear of been trapped in a cell for whatever reason!“Madame, they are-“I said, what did you say?!” I snapped, my voice ringing out in the room as anxiety got the best of me. “Who the hell did you say is at the door?”“The co-cops madame!” Maria stuttered, clearly sharing my panic as she tried to conceal her trembling fingers. “They have a warrant, and… it’s about the men we paid madame. What are we going to do? How do we escape this, they- they said there is a recording which proves that you indeed paid those guys, Madame. What do we do? How do we-“What did you say to them?” I interjected; my eyes murderous as I closed in on her. “What did you tell them at the door, Maria?”“I- I
CHARLOTTE’S POV“You fucking blonde bitch!”“How dare you! How dare you, Charlotte?!” The voice which I so much hate that I recognize right now shrilled in my ears. Literally threatening to render me deaf at such early hours of the fucking morning!‘Argh, this pompous bitch again.’ I groaned under my breath, groggily rubbing my eyes open as her voice continued to scream through my phone speakers. “You have a lot of nerves, Charlotte. So much nerves, but guess what? I’m going to deal with you. I’m going to deal with you stupid ass, you hear me?!”“Hey!” I yelled back, snapping at her. “What do you want, Mrs. Thompson?! What the fuck is wrong with you and why are you screaming in my ears at this time of the morning?! People are still sleeping you know!”“Sleeping?!” She mocked, laughing loudly like a manic. “You really are something, aren’t you?! You dare sleep after what you’ve done?!”What?“What are you talking about?” I asked, some sort of clarity coming to me as I looked around my
HUDSON'S POVWith one last exhale to calm the nerves, “I apologize.” I said, “I apologize for showing up on your property without an invite. For continuously trying to barge my way through every time i came here… I have thought about it all through my time out at your entrance and it truly doesn’t sound good.”“So, you do realize that, hm?” He mocked calmly, keeping his eyes trained on me.“Though my means was and still is wrong at the moment, but my reason for this is truly urgent.” I explained, “I am here today, because I am guilty man! A man that has done you wrong and simply disregarded you all these years, especially after finding out that things weren’t as I assumed. I have… I have hurt your daughter. Your granddaughter, Valerie. I hurt her, I abandoned her and totally neglected her when we were married!”“Oh? So, you married her?” He sneered, the distaste in his tone clear. “You married a daughter of mine without my knowledge?!”“Yes!” I confirmed, taking the bull by the horns.
HUDSON’S POV“I’m sorry sir, but the chairman is currently resting and won’t be able to see you.” The elderly man who I assumed was the chief butler of the mansion addressed me. His words, not surprising at all seeing as they were literally the exact words he used on me a few weeks back.Ever since I had officially gotten back together with Val after our last issue over housing arrangements, I had made it a point to reach out to her family. To get to know them, introduce myself and let them know I would be taking responsibility for my kids and Valerie seriously. Unlike how I had behaved 5 years ago.5 years ago, I wasn’t even aware Val had a family. That she had people, or even ones as powerful and commanding as the Hernandez backing her… I was clueless and quite foolish, as I have let you all know by now. But I couldn’t continue to be like that.I couldn’t continue to make up excuses and not take responsibility for my actions, especially as now, I badly wanted to be with her. Making
