Awaken

Dahlia had woken up the day before, the fever went instantly and her body’s temperature reduced to normalcy. Darin was happy that nothing happened to her but he was getting tired of his mother’s incessant questionings.

“Don’t you think we should call the police and file a missing person’s report? She is just a child, she may have run away from home and her parents are probably worried sick about her.” Peter’s mother said.

“You don’t know that, mom. I’m just trying to be kind here, that’s what you taught me. When the girl is strong, I’ll send her away but for now, allow me to take care of her.” Peter said. They were having breakfast and they were having this conversation right in Dahlia’s presence. She just sat and ate her food, not minding what they were saying, her whole focus was on getting better so that she can leave.
