Nicole
The moment Zach’s hand brushed past mine, as he helped me up from the ground, my entire body felt like it was on fire. His touch was firm yet gentle, the kind of balance that made me feel both safe and anxious at the same time. I tried to focus on steadying my breath, but it proved to be incredibly impossible. My skin buzzed where his fingers brushed mine, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pull away or lean into him. “You alright?” he asked, his voice, deep, and filled with concern as he kept a steady hand on my arm. The feeling of his skin touching wax second to heaven. I nodded quickly, avoiding his eyes, and said in a calm manner. “Yeah. I’m fine.” But in truth I wasn't fine. Not in the slightest. My heart was racing like I’d just run marathon, and it had nothing to do with my stumble a few moments ago. It was him. There was a way his presence seemed to take up all the air in the room, making it harder to breathe. It was hard to explain, but he being there with me felt like a drug I never wanted to detox from. He murmured something under his breath, but his words blurred into the background noise. My attention was fixed on his lips—full, soft, and utterly distracting. They moved as he spoke, the bottom lip catching the light just enough to make me wonder how it would feel pressed against mine right now. My gaze wandered upward, catching on a bead of sweat sliding down his neck. It moved with tantalizing slowness, tracing the line of his collarbone before disappearing into the unbuttoned part of his shirt. I couldn’t look away, my mind betraying me as I imagined following its path with my fingers—or my mouth. “Nicole?” Zach’s voice cut through my thoughts, sharper this time. Had he been staring all this while? I blinked, realizing I had been staring, and snapped my head up to meet his gaze. There was a sharp feeling of embarrassment, but it resided pretty quickly. His dark eyes were filled with curiosity, but there was a flicker of amusement in them too. “What?” I asked defensively, feeling my cheeks heat up. He smirked, tilting his head. “You were kind of zoned out there. What’s going on in that head of yours?” “Nothing,” I said too quickly. Then, in a desperate attempt to steer the conversation elsewhere, I blurted, “The sky is really blue today.” Zach raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening into a full grin. “The sky? Seriously?” He looked upwards, revealing his pretty Adam's apple. “Yes!” I said, folding my arms as if that would somehow make me look less ridiculous. “It’s… very blue.” He looked back down at me, and laughed. It was a slow, rich sound that made my stomach twist in the best way. “You’re something else Nicole, you know that?” he said. I didn’t respond. What could I say? That I was staring at his lips and imagining things I shouldn’t be? Instead, I focused on brushing imaginary dirt off my jeans, praying my face wasn’t as red as it felt. Before the moment could get any more awkward, the twins came running into the room, their identical grins lighting up the space. “We’ll get the first aid kit!” one of them shouted. “Yeah, don’t die before we come back!” the other added with a cheeky laughter that trailed with them before they both disappeared around the corner. Zach shook his head, chuckling. “They’re a handful.” I smiled faintly, though my mind was still spinning. I glanced down at the scrape on my elbow, realizing it was starting to sting. “Let me see that,” Zach said, stepping closer. His body pressing more into mine. “It’s fine,” I protested weakly, but he was already taking my arm in his hands. His touch was careful, his fingers warm against my skin. He examined the scrape with a seriousness that made my heart flutter. “It’s not that bad,” I said softly, trying to downplay it. “Hold still,” he muttered, ignoring my words and leaning in. Before I could ask what he was doing, I felt his tongue on my skin. “Zach!” I gasped, jerking back in response. “What?” he said nonchalantly, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. “It’s clean now.” “That’s… weird,” I muttered, though the truth was, it didn’t feel weird at all. It felt… intimate. I just could not bring myself to tell him that I liked his tongue on my skin. He grinned, clearly amused by my reaction. “Weird, but effective.” Before I could respond, he leaned in again and blew gently on the scrape. The warmth of his breath sent a shiver down my spine, and I had to bite my lip to keep from reacting. “You okay now?” he asked, his voice softer this time. I nodded, though I wasn’t sure I could trust my voice. He sighed in relief, his shoulders relaxing. “Good. For a second there, I thought you were going to pass out or something.” I laughed nervously, rubbing the back of my neck. “No, I’m fine. Really.” Zach stepped back slightly, but his gaze didn’t leave mine. There was something different about his expression now—something intense and unreadable. “You know,” he began, his voice quieter, “I haven’t seen you since… that night.” My breath caught up in my chest, blocking the way for any words I needed to say, to spill out. My brain scrambled for something to say, but all I could manage was a weak, “I’m right here.” He gave me a look that said he wasn’t buying it. “You know what I mean, Nicole.” Heat flooded my cheeks as the memory of that night resurfaced. His hands, his lips, the way he had looked at me like I was the only thing that mattered… “I don’t know what you want me to say,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. Zach’s eyes dropped to my lips, lingering there for a moment before returning to meet my gaze. “I think you do,” he said, his voice low and filled with something that made my heart race. I swallowed hard, my palms suddenly clammy. “Zach…” He stepped closer, so close I could feel the heat radiating off him. “This,” he whispered, his gaze flicking to my lips again. My breath hitched as he leaned in, his face inches from mine. The world seemed to pause, everything narrowing down to just him. But before his lips could touch mine, the twins came barreling back into the room, their voices loud and excited. “Uncle Zach!” they shouted in unison, holding up the first aid kit like it was a trophy.Nicole. The blaring sound went off and the pressure of my pillow against my ears did nothing to help. I groaned in protest. The noise continued, though. I rolled onto my side to turn it off when it fell on the floor and brought an end to my once peaceful slumber. I groaned as I picked it up and realized I was extremely late. “Shit, shit, shit” I cursed as I ran into the bathroom, struggling to remove my PJs at the same time. I took a quick shower, then practically raced back to my room, when I heard a honk from a car outside and I knew who exactly it was, damn. There was barely enough time for me to be picky about outfits so I threw on whatever I could find. “Nicole Jade Jackson!” My friend Bella yelled as soon as I walked out of the house. “I am so sorry for keeping you waiting. Don't scold me please” I begged, hoping that the puppy eyes I gave her would work. “Not today girl, we are late! Why can't you just stick to time” Bella scoffed as I threw myself beside her p
Nicole… “What have you done?” I was horrified as I pushed him off me to see the triumphant arrogant smirk on his face. In the next seconds that followed, I didn't care if my jeans weren't worn properly or my top, I didn't care about all of those things. They had seen me naked already, so I ran. Hot tears streamed down my face, blurry my vision. Bella called after but I didn't stop running, she could barely run to save her life so I ran knowing she’d not catch up. I wandered around aimlessly, not sure where to go or how to cry anymore. I ended up in a bar, and all I did was drown myself in booze until I couldn't remember the events of today, or how I got flirting with this man in front of me who had a wedding band. I couldn't remember who pulled me away from him, neither did I remember the darkness that completely blurred my vision. **** The next morning. Something blinding reflected on my face and I groaned as I squinted while trying to sit up properly. It was the sun
Nicole.. I couldn't sleep that night when I eventually got to my room because of two things; First I was now the topic of discussion in my group chat, and probably the whole school by now, and that was not how I intended to start the semester, secondly, the stranger I barely knew in the jacuzzi. The next morning came in a slow agonizing way, I lost count of the number of times I rolled over and checked the time. I thought I had managed to sleep for at least an hour before waking up in a cold sweat with fear and dread crawling up my neck to choke me. I checked the group chat again and it was still the same old news, me. I felt ashamed of myself, of how fast I had given in, it shouldn't have been that easy right? Why was it always this hard to get out from under other people's expectations of someone else? Wasn't it enough that I'd just had the messiest week? Yet the universe brought me another trap. I finally dragged myself out of bed, took a shower and proceeded to look
Nicole.. “I am so sorry I got drunk, that was so stupid of me.” I apologized to Leah for ruining one of her big days, and what was more stupid was that I still didn't know the gender of her child. “That's okay, I should have known better.” She said looking at me with her blue eyes shining brightly and sparkling with happiness. “It's just that I am so excited about having you here with us, it feels like forever and a lot has happened. I mean, your hair is curled now.” She winked. I nodded. “You didn't invite me to your wedding, you kind of cut contact with me and I was stuck in the dark, wondering if I did something wrong.” I explained, remembering the last time we talked, before I moved back to school. She sighed. “I am sorry for that, but please understand that things aren't the way they seem. I have so many things to apologize for, and so many explanations to give but all I can say is that I am sorry for not being a good friend, for not being there when you needed me,
Nicole.. Sleep betrayed me again. It left me thinking about the events of that night and most especially Zach. The next morning came and I felt like a zombie, hungover and starved of sleep. Still, I pulled myself together. I had to help Leah get the kids ready for school. “Are you ready?” Leah asked. “Ready for?” I was confused because I hadn’t heard her say anything about going out and most importantly, me tagging along. “Zach is dropping the children off at school since Jack would be busy. I think you should use this opportunity to bond with the kids,” she explained as if it were the simplest concept in the world. The word ‘bonding’ triggered an image of my mother and me. When I thought back to those days in childhood, the memories hurt more than any physical injury. “I am sure I can bond with them when they are back, I don't really feel well?” I knew how weak and fragile my words sounded but couldn’t think of anything else to say other than it. Nicole… “I—I—“ I tried to speak, but my words came out as stutters. All my brain cells suddenly went numb at that moment, and all I could hear, were the unspoken words of Zach. I swallowed hard and gave him a nod, watching as a smile formed at the corner of his lips. The truth is I’ve been drawn to Zach from the moment I saw him at the airport, and there was no point denying the mutual attraction between us. “You know, Nicole, seeing you in like this is so much better than anything else,” he breathed, his voice carried this intensity that made me believe every single word that came out of his mouth. “Like what?” I whispered. As he closed the distance between us. My voice was barely above a whisper. “We’re not doing this here.” He said, before I could ask what he meant by that, I felt my legs swinging in the air, as Zach carried me in bridal style to his room. Zach… The sun poured through the window, its rays enveloping my face, causing my eyes to flutter. I stifled a yawn, slowly opening my eyes, to realize it was morning already. I smiled as my hand roamed the bed, trying to find Nicole on the other side. “Good morning,” I whispered, but when I turned around, I was greeted with an empty bed and ruffled sheets. So many thoughts began to flood my mind; was it a dream? If it wasn’t, why did she leave? Didn’t she have a good time? Did I go all primal on her? I would've loved to at least hold her a bit more, before we had to let go. To tell her it wasn’t just the spur of the moment, it was real. I sniffed the pillow she had slept on, her scent lingered. It was both intoxicating and relaxing, reminding me of what happened last night. Beautiful, she was beautiful. From the quiet sounds she made to how her feet curled when I touched her, she was so gentle and so innocent and so trusting of me. All I could think of was

Zach was on a whole different level, every where he had touched me, ignited something I never knew I had in me, it was like every nerve in my body was an electric wire under his fingers that sent shock waves after shock waves. It was inarguably one of the best night of my life, but I still wasn't sure if things were settled with us. So much had happened back in school, and I sure as hell didn’t want to make the same mistake again. Zach was probably every girl’s dream. Perhaps even mine as well. But there was so much about him I knew nothing about, he was so mysterious. I couldn't let this crazed attraction we felt for each other burn deeper and someday explode, I had to end it. I tried to push Zach's arm off my chest but it proved to be harder than I thought it would, he had a death grip

Leah My breath fogged the glass slightly as I leaned against it, staring down from the building, at Nicole and Zach. They were so close now, I thought to myself, shaking my head slightly. Their heads were tilted together as he taught her how to ride the bike. What an interesting sight it was. Nicole Jr and Jacky had both returned to the house. I wondered what it was in particular that would make them suddenly leave Zach and Nicole when the reason he repaired the bike was for them. Those girls were smarter than their age, I decided. I couldn’t help but wonder if they were up to something. I could hear Nicole laugh. Her voice was so childlike and enchanting filling the air, light and carefree to my ears. If I were more ignorant than I was, I would have smiled at her, but instead, I felt my stomach twist with guilt. She didn’t know. She didn’t know what she was getting herself into. And it would be a fault of mine if anything were to happen to her. Jack was just
Zach. “Zach!” she screamed, her voice tore into my ears making me yelp slightly. “Oh my god Leah! The door is there for a reason!” I groaned. “I just walked out of the bathroom, and I really don't think Jack would be so happy to imagine this scenario..." “Oh please! You're really keeping this charade on with Nicole?" she said, gesturing with her hands as though to wave my words away. "Why do you want to jeopardize everything? You know you have a mate somewhere! And a human and a werewolf shouldn't be together! You have to get a hold of yourself Zach. This isn't some game for you to play and win. People are not games. I can't let you toy around with my best friend. You can't jus-” “Can you give this lecture a break Leah?” I rolled my eyes. I couldn't hold myself back anymore, things were totally out of hand for me. “You don't have to use every opportunity you get to remind me of a reality I'm very much aware of...
