(Doris' POV)
"Doris! We will soon be freed from this hell!" a familiar yet reassuring voice sounded. Shana, my wolf has finally woken up again after two years.
The voice soothed me. For the past two years, my freedom has been in shackles. Locked up or even buried, I had been living the life of an adult without the liberation that comes with being one.
I stood in front of a pile of unprocessed ingredients, afraid to make any move, fearing that this, like countless dreams before, would turn into nothing but popping bubbles and disappear when daylight arrived.
But Shana's voice became clear once again, and she encouraged me, saying, "Not to worry, Doris. I really have come back, and this time I will fight alongside you! I can't wait to sink my claws into those bastards' throats!"
That soothing yet familiar voice resonated through my vague consciousness and I believed in it. However, the harsh voice that pierced through my dream pulled me back to reality.
"Get your head out of your fantasies, lubber wort."
I lifted my head and saw the magnified disgusted face of a middle-aged woman. "You lazy bum! What are you dawdling for? Do you even know what day it is today? How dare you waste time here!"
As my mother-in-law's grating voice reminded me of the embarrassment I was about to face, I tightened my grip on the kitchen knife. Never in my life had I imagined that I would be humiliated by my husband, my supposed mate, in such a soul-crushing manner.
"Prepare a dinner for me and Sofia. It's our third anniversary."
Sofia is my husband's mistress. While I had only been married to my mate for two years. But from the moment I was announced as his Luna, my husband wasted no time in openly sharing our bed with Sofia.
Meanwhile, I was relegated to the smallest room in the entire villa, smaller even than an Omega's room. For the past two years, I have lived in constant fear and terror. The wounds on my body have never healed. Any word of dissent from me would invite lashes upon my body, as my healing abilities vanished along with Shana's slumber.
I longed to throw the kitchen knife at my mother-in-law's repulsive face but now was not the time...
I had to obey her orders until I could finally reveal my identity. At this moment, I can only live as carefully as a mouse. There's no other choice. But when the time comes, when I'll reveal myself, I swear to the Moon Goddess, I'd destroy all these goddamned bastards.
As I continued to slice the chicken silently and precisely, the television above my head began to broadcast a major news announcement.
"Today's news: Alpha Doris Albert announces her imminent return to the public eye..."
I noticed that my mother-in-law, the former Luna Mara, had her gaze fixed on the masked woman on the screen. This momentarily silenced the words of humiliation she had intended for me. No one would have imagined that the terrifying Warrior Goddess on the television was now standing in a dirty kitchen, preparing a third-anniversary dinner for her husband and his mistress.
I sarcastically chuckled, and Mara's voice grew angrier once again. "Ohh, what are you laughing at? You're dreaming for the moon here! Do you think that just because you share the same name as the pack goddess, you're both the same person?"
I bit my lower lips, bowing my head down while I clenched my fist when she lifted my chin. "You're just a piece of decoration beside my son. If my son didn't save you while you were injured and found that you're his mate, you would've just been a slave to the pack." She laughed, scanned me all over, and added, "And, you dare to gloat that you share the same name as the Goddess of War? You should give up dreaming for the moon." She scoffed, rubbing her hands with a handkerchief and then throwing it back to my face.
"You imbecile! You should wake up and be aware that it's already four in the afternoon. You need to make sure all the dishes are ready before seven in the evening, or I guarantee your husband will once again lash his whip on your delicate skin!"
"That witch!" Shana seethed in my mind. I remained silent as I placed the cloth back in its place. I watched Mara's retreating figure, certain that her arrogance would come to an end on the next full moon.
The other she-wolves drifted their attention to me and snickered"Some people just don't know their places. Look at it, look at the TV." She said, pointing toward the direction as I frowned and turned toward her.
"Doris Albert. Though no one knows her background, just like yours, her background must be extraordinary. After all, she came out of nowhere at the age of eighteen and defeated the mightiest of the mightiest werewolves. When rogues hear her name, they tremble in fear and lose their stances. I heard that she was also involved in the economic field, uniting several major Packs to build a huge business empire." She scoffed, playing with my hair, and rolled her eyes. "How could you even compare to her?"
"Uhm, but I heard that such an outstanding person like her suddenly disappeared in the Blood Moon Pack a year ago. And, the entire Blood Moon Pack was wiped out overnight. Whose work do you think it is? Hers, the rogues, or did they have enemies?" One of the Omegas, Rena, spoke to another servant as she bumped into me again with her shoulder, causing my abdomen to hit the countertop. I let out a muffled groan, glaring at the two Omegas angrily.
This time it worked, perhaps due to Shana's return. I watched their faces turn fearful, and they dared not lay a hand on me any longer as they left the kitchen.
I continued to stare at the woman on the television. It was my interview from yesterday, a preview of what was to come. I was going to let those treacherous betrayers know that their nightmares were about to begin—
But the painful scene from two years ago pierced through my heart once again, like a dagger.
RED. It was tinted with red all over, red with my pack members' blood. It was all silent, but their whimpers rang in my ear again and again. Yet, I couldn't save them, I couldn't even unalive those bastards, and bury my pack members.
I gritted my teeth, rubbing my eyes harshly as I glared around my surroundings, clenching my jaws.
"What a foolish decision I made! Only if I didn't trust them, that would be great." I grunted, keeping my voice low enough to assure myself that no one heard it.
Anger, fear, and sadness coursed through me as my tears started to drop irresistibly, my lips trembling.
Two years ago.
Two years ago, I visited the Blood Moon Pack with my trusted subordinate, Sneck, to see my mother and younger brother. However, that evening, while taking a walk in the forest, a dagger coated with wolfsbane was thrust into my left chest. Sneck betrayed me. Poisoned, I mustered all my strength to return to the pack, only to find the Blood Moon pack marked with signs of battle.
In the chaos, I managed to save Philly and urged him to escape, but I couldn't save my mother and maternal grandfather in time. I watched in horror as my grandfather's head was cruelly severed by a sadistic werewolf, while my mother stood protectively in front of me, weakened until she was impaled by a longsword. Blood and tears fell together as I gritted my teeth and fled from there. Eventually, I collapsed on the border of the Red Moon Pack's territory.
Luckily, or unluckily, I was saved by Alpha Liddell when I was barely alive, and my wolf lost all her strength because of the serious wounds.
However, when Alpha Liddell came over, my wolf danced in joy as I smiled gloomily. The scent was bewitching, and I immediately kissed him before I growled, "Mate."
***
I heaved a sigh, slapping my cheeks. "And, that was the worst decision ever."
I accepted HIS BOND.
You ask me why?
The reason was simple.
First of all, he was my mate.
Secondly, I was seriously injured, and I had to go into hiding. What would be a better place than to hide as the Luna of Red Moon Pack?
My lips carved a nonchalant smile while I shook my head.
But Liddell turned out to be a real jerk. He treated me like garbage, loathed me, and married me only to humiliate me more, and more. Until I lose my sanity.
"How stupid of me to think that an Alpha like him would be treating me like his most precious treasure," I mumbled, clenching through my teeth.
I glanced down and breathed heavily. But I had to follow his orders, and not break the bond since I needed a hiding place, and my wolf couldn't bear the hurt of rejection bond as I was wounded seriously. So, I remained as HIS LOVELESS LUNA.
There was never a day I didn't think about taking back my pack, and unalive those betrayers by my own hands.
And, now, I am sure that I have recovered from my injuries. And, tomorrow it was the full moon when my wolf was at its strongest. "And, the day, I would break my bond with Liddell," I mumbled, smiling as I looked upward. I am not going to put up being treated like garbage any longer.
I shook my thoughts away and hurried to finish. As I was done, I took off my apron before I returned to my room.
However, as soon as I locked it, someone knocked on the door as I glared at it sharply, and opened the door.
My vision invited a black-clad werewolf, his head down when my chest thumped furiously in expectation. "Warlord, your younger brother, Sir Philly has been found."
(Doris' POV)My wolf jumped in excitement while I hurried to lift his chin up as he met my gaze. "Tell me, where's he?"His lips parted but as his gaze lingered over me, he paused."Where's he?" I repeated, frowning in impatience. I didn't find any news of him for a year already, and now, I just wanted to find him and cuddle him hard.He exhaled deeply, lowering his gaze while he stuttered, "He is in the hospital now…" he paused before he continued again, "He-he is with Alpha Liddell.""Alpha Liddell?" I questioned, interrupting him as I raised my brows up. "Why is he with him?" He bit his lips, and silence followed for a moment when I hurried him. "Come on, tell me!"He frowned, glancing at me worriedly. "He was expelled from the pack by your grandfather, Alpha Harry of the Silver Fang Wolf Pack! And when he was on the run, he was captured by Liddell as Sofia's blood bank! Moreover, Liddell considers this their best third anniversary gift!"My grandfather? Alpha Harry? Just the thoug
(Doris' POV)"S-sister…" Philly winced, as he forced himself to look up when he wrapped his arms around me. "Sister, you are here." He stuttered, tears dripping down his cheeks when he started crying loudly while gripping onto me tightly. "I missed you so much, sister. I missed you so much."I caressed his hair as I nodded. "I missed you too. I missed you a lot, Philly.""Sister…" he moaned as he continued to cry louder while I patted him. After a few minutes, he finally paused, crying, and glanced at me intently. "It was such a hard year without you." He gulped, snorting."Don't worry, don't cry. Sister is here, sister is here. I'll take care of you, and pay back those bastards for what they did to you."He nodded, hugging me by my waist while I smiled and looked at him worriedly.Being my brother, the War Goddess' brother, he had always acted strong and brave but he was just a child and under the wings of our protection. He is a sensitive child with a fragile mind. Who knows what he
(Doris' POV)I laughed at the sight of him, looking at me in fear. "Please, Doris, don't do this to me. Tell them to back off," Liddell kept pleading as Mark and Erbort moved closer and cornered him."H-how... when did you get this much power all of a sudden? You were always weak." Liddell squeezed his brows in confusion and stuttered in fear.I laughed again, looking at him cornered by Mark and Erbort in a humiliating position. His expression sent a pleasurable sensation within me. He felt so useless and unable to move."I know you are weak, you don't even possess a little power or control over anyone. You're just an orphan. How come you have these two strong werewolf fighters in your control doing your wishes?" He parted his lips and looked up at the two tall figures who would finish him off with just an order from me, and his face turned pale."It seems there are a lot of questions rambling in your head right now, Liddell..." I paused as I took a step closer. "Any more questions?"
(Doris' POV)It was silent for a few seconds after I had rejected and refused Liddell, digesting wholeheartedly the shock and despair lingering on his face."It's Doris, the Goddess of War. Doris has risen!" The doctor whom I had knocked out previously yelled out after hearing my words of rejection to an Alpha. He staggered to his feet and in fear, attempted to flee out of the ward, and perhaps out of the hospital to tell the world what he saw and witnessed."Forgive me, Warlord, for my previous actions. I do not wish to provoke you into anger." He bowed multiple times, trembling in fear, not waiting for my response as he made his way to the doorway to leave.I glanced at Mark, who had been watching him speak in cowardice, unlike a few moments ago when his voice sparked bravely and commanded control over an assumed weak Omega, clenching his fists in annoyance, ready to pounce on him."And where do you think you are going?" Mark pulled the doctor back with a heavy, jaw-breaking punch,
(Doris' POV)Mark and Erbort followed my orders, and continued to draw Liddell's blood, enough to donate this blood to five persons and was already getting injected into Sofia. She was taken to the other ward away from Liddell and was looking all feeble and fragile."Doris! Have you gone mad? How dare you do this?!" Sofia, who had been lying weakly on the bed, shot up with a glare. "Liddell's uncle will soon find out what has happened here! You must be ignorant of his abilities to be so foolish as to act against us like this!"I raised my brows in wonders, watching her sudden drama. Was she not meant to be weak or ill? Was this a normal behavior for someone who's considered ill? Where did she gain the strength to scream? It seems they simply want to toy with Philly! These two venomous snakes!"Is anyone there? I need help!" she screamed, struggling to free her hands tied to the bedstand. "Help! Someone should get me out of here, someone should get me away from this woman!" She kept sh
(Doris' POV)"Let them be!" Gilbert stood facing me with a scowl on his face. "Let Liddell and Sofia go or you wouldn't like what will happen here.""And what will happen if I don't? Because clearly I won't," I sneered at him.Clearly, I could sense his intention of killing me. His fists transformed into fangs. As I looked at Liddell, who was filled with hope, a new idea sparked within me.My gaze returned to Gilbert's face. "If I may ask..." I raised an eyebrow and stared at him, "do you want to be the Alpha?" Gilbert's abilities far surpassed Liddell's, but he had never become an Alpha himself. There had to be a significant reason behind it!His face darkened immediately. I glanced at Liddell on the bed and back to him who was also looking at Liddell. He had also seen what I noticed. Liddell's expression had changed.Liddell had heard me clearly and now looked at Gilbert with distrust in his eyes.Gilbert suddenly grew even angrier, swiftly extending his claws towards me, but I dodg
(Gilbert' POV)The Wolf Pack Elders CouncilDefinitely them, I thought. The Wolf Pack Elders Council will be able to solve this. Doris is now a member of the Red Moon Wolf Pack. She has to obey the rules of the Wolf Pack and cannot kill any member of the pack.If she tries it, she will definitely be punished by the Elders council. They are the head of and above all Wolf Packs so they need to obey, Doris is definitely not an exception since she is a member of the Wolf Pack. The Elder council is also known for their responsibility in the inheritance ceremony of an Alpha and a Luna in a wolf pack. They can even sometimes have a say in the dismissal of a wolf pack Alpha. The Elder Council follows the instructions of the Moon Goddess given them. They predict troubles too. The Elder Council predicts a crisis in a wolf pack and goes to where the wolf pack may be to assist the Alpha stuck in such a crisis. There is a wolf pack here and there's a crisis. Liddell is down, so am I and the other
(Doris' POV)"It's you! Doris Albert." Mawson called out in recognition and excitement all over his face. "I knew you looked familiar. This is really you Doris, the Goddess of War!" He exclaimed.I stood gazing at him with a smile on my face as I watched him. He looked happy and excited to see me. "I thought you wouldn't recognize your benefactor.""I searched and searched everywhere I could think of for traces you during the year you disappeared. I wanted to see the Goddess of War again but it was hard for me since you were always masked." He spoke like one who had longed for this day. "No one knew what you looked like under the mask which also made it difficult for you to be found."Mawson couldn't hide his joy as they were written all over his. "I led people to the Red Moon Wolf Pack when I got some information, but that was the last I had about you. I had to rush down here immediately when I heard there was a riot in the hospital."He couldn't stop getting words out of his mouth a
(Doris' POV)The next morning, I groggily opened my eyes. The day was fast spent, yet I was just waking up.I stretched my hand to the other side of the bed with my eyes still sleepy and half opened, but couldn't feel Xavier. I quickly opened my eyes and realized he wasn't on the bed with me and sat up.Suddenly, the door opened, gasping my attention. And there he was, holding a tray of meal, approaching the bed.“Good morning, sunshine.” He said in a sing-song tone, placed the tray on the bed and kissed me on the forehead.“Good morning to you too. What a pleasant surprise,” I smiled and sniffed in the aroma of the meal.I shut my eyes slightly for a minute and was mesmerized by it.“This better be nice.” I said and proceeded to take a bite.“How is it?” He asked when I chewed halfway, but my face turned into a frown and glared coldly at him.“Did you make this yourself?”“Yes, why? What's wrong?” He queried in a low tone, his eyes darting from the meal back to me.“It's amazing!” I
(Doris' POV)“Does the elders have anything to say to what the future King had said?” I asked in a low and threatening growl. They all shook their heads.“We are fine with whomever the King has chosen.” The leader said with his head slightly bowed toward Xavier. The others too did the same, except Barron, who stormed out of the conference room in anger. I waved at the Reapers to let him go while I laughed to my heart's content.“I'm sorry I couldn't meet you at the borderline.” Xavier turned to me and said after Barron left.“It's fine, I know you also have duties to attend to.” A smile spread on my face.“We would take our leave then.” One of the elders said, and they exited the room.“We should go home too,” I said to Xavier with my arms wrapped around his neck.He gently placed his hand on my waist and responded, “Sure.”I turned to the Reapers, who were still waiting for my instruction.“You all should rest, too. We all deserve it.” I said, my voice filled with pride of how we fou
(Xavier's POV)“I don't care what any of you says, I'm the elder son and the legitimate son of the late King, that throne is mine.” Barron seethed his teeth and thudded his fist against the table as he spoke.“We set the rules here in the absence of a King, which means we have the authority to make any decisions of our choice at this moment.” One of the elders protested in a calm voice. My heart kept pounding fast, and I had no idea what to do. This is a position I'm not worthy of.“Give the throne to Barron.......” I started, and all eyes fell on me, surprised. “I'm not worthy of the throne. Barron should be the 9ne to sit on it, not me.” I said, with my gaze lowered to the floor.“Good thing you know your place.” Barron snapped at me and I plucked up my chin to look at him.Seeing the hatred he had for me broke me heart more.“That won't be possible, Xavier. Even if you were dead or not the King's son, Barron would still have no place in the Palace. You were born to rule, and you ha
(Xavier's POV)Barron and I sat in the conference room, waiting for the elders. They had set up the meeting for us, to pick a new King.My heart pounded faster in my mind, thinking about everything. I wondered what kind of King I would become if I got chosen, and also how I would feel if I didn't get chosen. They were running late, but I understood the Pack was going through a rough time at the moment, which could be the cause. Barron kept glaring at me through the corner of his eyes, he had always hated.Maybe because I was an illegitimate son, but I won't be too bothered if I were him. That alone was a great disadvantage for me.After some more minutes of waiting, the door opened and the elders walked in one after the other. We both rose to our feet and bowed to greet them.“You may both have your seat,” the leader of the elders said after they had all settled down.“Thanks,” I mumbled and sat down.“I'm sure you both know the purpose of this meeting.” He started.“Can we then get t
(Doris' POV)My eyes welled for a reason I couldn't tell; whether about the King's death or the First Elder's death, I just couldn't place it.The First Elder must have blamed the King too for the death of Snake and killed me, while I trusted him with the King to be in safe hands. I wanted to come back to the Pack victorious and settle all grudges, but now, they are both dead.Case closed!Murmurs among the elders filled the air, I excused myself from them and exited the Palace. In front of the Palace, there stood the Reapers, some warriors, the two warriors who carried the First Elder's body and some curious Pack members who shot cold glares at me as I stepped out. They were scared to speak, but I could almost read their minds through their faces, it was so sad and bitter. I know they wanted to question me about the First Elder, but none of them dare say a word.“Carry the body, let's go.” I said to the warriors and turned to leave when a female voice stopped me.“The King?” She aske
(Doris' POV)“You should have never done it. All Snake had was you.”“And he was a sacrifice meant to be made, how could I not do it?” His voice dropped to almost a whisper, remorse crept in.My face softened and I halted, watching his moves. Who can tell, it might be another one of his numerous tricks to get new off my guard.“You have done too much evil already, why would you want me dead too?”“You have the guts to ask me that? Snake died because he was your follower, what more would bring me joy than your corpse?” He snapped, enraged and ready to strike again. He's right about that, Snake might still be alive if he wasn't serving me. Maybe some of them really died because of me, and it's all my fault, but I won't let them die in vain. I'll seek the justice that their souls deserve.I eased myself from the defense stance and looked at the First Elder. Even with being a Divine Wolf, he's still a piece of cake to me.And though I wanted justice for all he had harmed, a part of me sti
(Doris' POV)My lips twitched with rage. How dare he lie to me, paint people evil to me, so I could get to trust him while he was the evil himself?I halted in front of him and crouched, lifting his head to meet my eyes.“Forgive, you say?” A scoff traveled through my lips and I rose to my feet.“Why did you do it? Why did you make me trust so much in you and turned out to be the evil I was up against?” I asked in a hushed tone, almost couldn't believe he could do such a thing to me.I had always seen him as a noble and honest man who wanted justice for those the King had wrong. Only God knows how many crimes he had committed that I knew nothing about.“I'm sorry, please forgive me.” He said out loud, bowing his head again.I beat my feet on the ground, filled with rage for the nonchalant apologies he was tendering. None of his apologies would bring back those who had died.None of his
(Doris' POV)My eyes met with the strongest vampire King and my lips twitched. Though he tried to mask his fears, it was still written over his face.He must be wondering how we got through Reya and the other Purebred vampires, but nobody dare mess with the Goddess of War, I'll always be available to give them their responses.“How dare you look me in the eyes?” He growled as if to threaten me, but I stood firm.“I can look you in the eyes because I can....... We all can.” My arms spread out, referring to my warriors and the Reapers. His face went red with anger.“How dare you?” He cussed and turned to one of his men. “Where the heck is Reya?” He asked, whispering.“There would be no need for that,” I butted in abruptly, and he looked at me with his left brow raised at my remark. “She would be food for the earth in no time.” I concluded and smirked. He unde
(Xavier's POV)Seated in front of aunt Jane's house, my mind drifted to Doris. It's been days after she left, and I couldn't help it but miss her like hell, I would give anything to hold her in my arm sooner.I know the battle would be fierce, but I hope she would be rest assured that her family would be safe with me.Felix, Doris brother, walked to the front of the house and sat beside me on the swing chair.“What are you doing out here? You should be inside, resting.” I said to him, and let glared coldly at me for a few seconds. Why would he do that when all I've done since Doris left was to make them comfortable? Perhaps I had done something I had no idea about.“Did I do something wrong? What's up with the glare?” I asked in a shushed tone, my heart pounding faster.“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that.” He briskly apologized, bowing his head.“It's fine, it's nothing to be apologetic about.”My lips curled with a smile and my heart was proud of what I've done.On several occasion
