Janet’s POV
I arrived at Steven’s mansion and found him outside the courtyard but something was weird about him, he was crying.
“Steven.” I rushed up to him, looking anxious and confused.
Has something happened in my absence?
“Steven, are you alright?” I asked with a voice filled with concern.
“I just got a message from my father’s trusted aid. Their carriage was raided and my father lost his life.” He informed me, sounding disheartened and my heart skipped.
“What? How did that happen? This is…” I couldn’t contend with the shock in my heart.
My parents and I were just talking about his father, and I wasn't able to tell him about my new fate - and now, he lost his father?
“I… I’m really sorry for your loss.” These were the only words I could profess.
“That’s not the issue at hand, Janet. I have to take the throne since I’m his heir.” He cried out and a small smile crept at the corner of my lips.
I knew we just witnessed bad news but I couldn’t contend with my excitement.
“Does this mean, we… we have to get married?” I asked skeptically, but he brushed my hand away.
“You wish!” He scoffed, sounding indifferent.
“I have to undergo the tribulation of an Alpha. I don’t think I can stand being struck by lightning thirty times.” He spilled bluntly and my jaw dropped.
“What? Lightning? What kind of punishment is that?” I asked in confusion.
“The ancestors have to make sure that the next heir is stronger and fit to hold the throne. I’m not prepared.” As much as it sounded crazy, my heart broke as I saw him tear up.
There was no way I could console him and right now, my words weren’t doing good to him.
“Is there any way I can help? Maybe we could ask the elders for a different punishment…” I tried to come up with a suggestion but he shook his head.
“You can’t help me, Janet. You are too weak.” He spilled bluntly with annoyance lingering in his voice.
Though people called me weak, I didn’t like it coming from him - someone I loved for that matter.
“I… I will help you with your tribulation, babe.” I had to show him that I wasn’t as weak as he thought and I was also capable of being beside him as his Luna.
“You?” He looked daft.
“You are not doing anything, you stubborn lad!” A familiar voice scurried and when we turned, it was my father and some other elders.
“Elders.” As they bowed to Steven, he quickly stood.
“We heard the sad news about your father, our condolence but I can’t believe you are trying to coax my daughter into taking up your punishment.” My father began in anger.
“You are a man so you must take control of this and protect your weak woman!” My father urged him seriously.
“I didn’t coax anyone! Your daughter is only trying to butt in!” Steven wasn’t having it cool with him too.
“Father…” I trailed off with a cold smile. “You are no longer my father so I don’t need to explain my actions to you, do I?” I asked, curling my lips.
“What do you mean?” Steven asked.
“I was disowned by them because I chose to be with you so the father and daughter bond between us is broken.” I faced Steven, placing a hand across his shoulders.
“I will take your tribulation for you and when I return, let’s get married,” I said seriously with a small smile and he nodded impatiently.
“Sure. Let’s do that. I promise to marry you after the tribulation. You will be my Luna.” He promised me with affection lingering in his eyes, I couldn’t take in all the joy I was feeling as our lips connected. He kissed me, making me feel safe.
“When is the tribulation day?” After we broke our kiss, I asked the elders - ignoring the look on my father’s face.
“In a week. It must be done shortly after the burial of our Alpha.” One of the elders said with a short bow.
“I will get ready.” I was about to leave when he held me back.
We exchanged intense stares and he embraced me tightly, not wanting to let me go.
How could I leave someone like him?
“Don’t worry, from now on, both this place and I are your home.” He whispered, his breath grazing on my skin as I briefly closed my eyes.
I was locked in the dungeon the following day, staying away from everyone until I was done with the tribulation. I didn’t hear any word from Steven or anyone, it was as if I was buried alive. I didn’t blame him because he was only following the tradition.
The day of the tribulation came as I was led to the ritual ground by an already transformed wolf.
As soon as I was about to climb on the platform, someone grabbed my arm and I turned quickly in anxiety - thinking it was my love since I had missed him more than life itself but my smile faded when I saw who it was.
“You shouldn’t be here.” It was Pamela, urging me to stop.
“It’s already too late, babe. I want to do this for him.” I said calmly.
“Are you sure it is worth it?” She rolled her eyes. “Look at you, you are already so weak, can you even stand one strike?” For some reason, I didn’t see worry in her eyes. It was as if she was here to discourage and mock me.
“I will be fine, Pamela. Besides, I’m doing this for a greater cause. By the time I’m done, I will grow from being an Omega to a Luna, isn’t that amazing?” I asked, forcing out a smile and she nodded.
“True. True. Since you are already determined, I won’t stop you then. I’m sorry and I wish you the best.” She said sadly.
“You are sorry? For what?” I wasn’t following what she was saying.
“For causing this to happen. I would have stopped you earlier…” Just then, some wolves came in and started paroling.
It was time for her to leave.
“Wait for my return.” With that, I stepped on the platform and some chains came out from invisible places, binding my two hands.
“ARGH!” I screamed as it stretched me in the air.
Was this how I would die? I didn’t regret my action though.
The sky ruptured, causing thunder strikes to form and I saw it approaching Earth with full force. I quickly closed my eyes, awaiting the most painful tribulation without knowing if I would live or die.
Janet’s POV“Janet. Janet. Wake up.” A soft voice echoed in my third ear as I struggled to get my real self.It was as if I was dead but my eyes were wide open while I lay on the platform. All my body aches and I was bleeding heavily. I wondered if I could even walk because of the injuries everywhere, I felt heavy.“Janet. Janet.” The voice came up again but I could tell that there was no one with me, but thankfully the voice motivated me to crawl and sit upright, looking around the area.“I’m still here,” I mumbled to myself, my eyes wandering at every corner. The tribulation had just ended and I was alive, maybe almost dead?“Janet, you must leave.” Then, the voice came up again.“Who’s that? Is someone here?” I asked anxiously, looking around.“I’m you, I'm inside of you and I’m your wolf.” The voice introduced and I almost leaped in joy forgetting my state.“I… I finally got a wolf at the age of 21?” I gasped in disbelief.“The Moon Goddess saw your sincerity and willingness, and
Janet’s POV“Let me go! Let me go, you bastard!” I yelled in annoyance as he pushed me into his master chamber and closed the door behind him.“What do you have to say about what I have seen and how you have fooled me all these years, Steven?” I gritted my teeth in questioning.“I haven’t even thanked you for what you did for me, babe. I know everything is going on too fast but—” He began but I shunned him.“You really take me for a fool, don’t you?” I scoffed, bitterly laughing at myself.“Do you really think I love Pamela? I don’t love her, you are the one I love, Janet, and I will make you my one and only Luna.” He screamed at the top of his voice.“Stop lying!” I hissed.“Pamela’s father was the first to target my throne and if I don’t marry her, he will covet my throne. I’m doing this to protect ‘us’, Janet.” He said dolefully and for a while, I was intoxicated by his believable lies.“You mean…” I trailed off.“I’m getting married to her because of business, she will never be my
Janet’s POV“What took you so long? We were all waiting for you.” One of the Omega said, looking worried.“I guess I came late, I saw him leaving and he hasn't changed,” I said absentmindedly.“What did you say?” She looked confused.“No, not you. Since we missed him, let’s prepare for the welcome banquet.” I said with a forced smile.“Welcome banquet? How did you know about that?” She asked with suspicion lingering in her eyes.“I… I think our Alpha mentioned it.” I lied, rattling out.“He didn’t.” She shook her head.“Well, he just did. Let’s go prepare.” I scurried away from her before she bantered me with questions.I had to be careful of the way I predicted things. The Omegas were the lowest-ranking servants in the pack and we were the ones in charge of organizing the field for Steven’s welcome banquet.I returned to the venue to take a final look at it before the event time, the canopies were in the right place including the chairs, tables, and food sets.Just then, someone tick
Monica’s Point of ViewThe sun ray flashed in my direction which somehow disrupted my sleep. I sighed and tossed to the other side of the bed, letting my hand run freely but then, I noticed the bed was empty.I quickly opened my eyes and checked myself, and exhaled in relief when I noticed that my clothes were intact.“What happened last night?” I couldn't tell how I got here or what happened after my wild engagement with Berrent.“You are awake.” Just then, a masculine voice came up and I shivered.“Who…” I turned and trailed off at the sight of the angelic figure, partly dressed in just his suit trouser and bare chested - exposing his sharp attractive biceps that got me intoxicated for a while.“What's going on here? Why am I here?” I questioned him nervously as I gathered the duvet around my chest.“You got drunk yesterday and couldn't tell me where you came from, so I brought you to my room.” He said steadily.“My apologies.” I lowered my head in shame.“I will take whatever that
Janet's POVI was left alone in his house. I know I was not meant to touch anything, but I was wondering why the things in his room were the way they were. I got up and walked around. I have not been to Ice Lake Park before. This was my first time here and it is going to be me staying here for a long time till I get what I want. "Who are you?" I heard someone say.I quickly turned and saw a lady, she must be his maid. I know a man like that will have lots of maids at his service. " I was brought here last night. Care to give me some food?" I asked. She looked at me like I was a thief who had entered the house. " You should leave," she fired at me. I saw the hate in her eyes, all for someone she barely knew. She should be careful around me if she wants to remain working here. I got out of the room and walked around. Little did I know that it was such a big house. Why did he have such a big house? He was powerful, rich, and well-represented. Why was he still after the oil yard?
Janet's POVHe walked to where Sara was standing. I saw the smile on her face but acted like I was blind to it. I saw the way she was happy about his presence, how was I foolish enough not to have seen this? I was way too blind and that cost me so much. " This is my friend; I know you have seen her before," she said. Of course, he had seen me before, the way he had looked at me yesterday, I knew it was something. " I have; you look good, by the way; what's the name?" He asked. How arrogant. " It's Janet," I said. He does not deserve to know what family I came from, he should figure that out himself. He smiled at me as he took my hands; I felt the softness of his hands; I was going to turn them into rocks by the time I was done with him. " And you look so beautiful," he added. I smiled, how funny. " Of course, she is, and she is without a mate as well." Sara rushed and said that part of my life. Wasn't it too early to show how badly she wanted to use me?" I am as well; I mean
Janet's POV I looked at my mother like she had no idea what words she just released. " I don't understand." " You will finally be mated, this should be something that calls for joy" She was all smiles and it worried me.It worried me that she had nothing against this. " I can't do this" I said and got into my room. I lay on the bed and tried to force myself to sleep, I wanted to stop hearing the sounds of his laughter. I wanted all of that far away from my ears, but It was not possible. The door opened, and it was my mother, with a broad smile on her face. " You should come see him, your father said so," she said. I got up, even though it was not the initial plan, I never wanted to obey, because I knew this part would come. I followed her and after seeing the man, I got angry. What was this about? Did they think my life was a joke or something? " You now have a mate" My father's smiling face hurt me so much. " Father, I never asked for a mate, I am not interested" I blurted
Janet's POVI took the last water and poured it on my body; I knew he would scream my name when he got back because I had just used what he asked me not to touch. I rushed out of the house, I was going to meet Alpha Berrent. I got there and met lots of girls gathered at his place; they were not alone; they had their mothers with them. It seemed strange to me. I managed to pass in between them. I felt a hand behind me, I was dragged back. "Where are you going?" The person asked me. I gently turned to see who it was, it was one of the mothers. Her face was filled with anger, I have no idea why she did what she did to me. " Why would you do that?" I gently asked her because I was in no mood for any trouble. " I know you, I remember you from that night, Leader of the Omega group. You should be ashamed that you go in front of everyone and become an embarrassment" she said. She was still holding me tightly. I turned and saw that other mothers had the same look on their faces; the d
Janet's POVI sat there watching him; I was trying to see if I could make meaning from what he had just said; could it be that he was the one who killed Kevin's father? " Are you sure that is what you want to do?" " It is the only way, you have to do the same thing because you want the Pack as well, so do not sit there and judge me when you want the same thing"" I know I want the Pack, but I am not going to be the one to kill Kevin's father, the person I wish to kill is his son, Kevin. That is who my focus is on" I said. He laughed. " How are you going to harm his son when the Alpha is still alive, you want to end up in the dungeon where there would be no food or water for you? Let's say I am helping you get what you want while you help me get what I want as well," he said. I breathe out; this is it; Kevin's father has to die before things begin to unfold. I left his house and went back to my Pack when I got to my house, there was a car outside, and I knew that we had a guest.
Janet's POVShe was so upset with me but there was nothing she could do about it. Berrent asked her to do whatever I wanted. " This is never going to last; you will leave here one day; it won't be long before he finds your replacement," she said. " You meant to say your replacement? If you do not act as a good girl, I will have him kick you out of here, and nothing is going to happen. Do not push me," I warned her. She looked at me and sighed. " I wonder what is it that you come here for or what it is that brings you here all the time, you are not fit to be with him, you are never like the Luna that was here, I hope he realizes that you are no good and leave you alone," she said as she began doing what I asked her to do. " I do not want you talking to me in that manner, you have no idea what I am going to do to you. Shut your mouth and cook. That is all you will do for me for the rest of your miserable life in this Pack; if you dare complain about it, I will have you kicked out.
Janet's POVThere was confusion on his face, he looked at Sara. There was also confusion on Sara's face. " Why would he want you? Why is that? How did he get to notice you?" She asked me. " I have no idea" I shrugged my shoulders. I knew she was asking me that because she was scared, I might go over to Derek and not be able to be fooled by her. It was not like she cared about me that much; she was after what she would get from me. " What do you have to say about this? She looked at Kevin. " I do not know; I am going to talk to my father about it; maybe he can do something to stop him," he said.I smiled, it was all I wanted. " Do that fast, because Derek already asked that we get prepared for it. I do not know what to do, and I do not want to get his mate; you have to beg your father so he can stop him from doing what he is about to do to me, please," I pleaded. " I am going to talk to my father; this is never going to happen; you have to trust me on this, okay?" " I will, do
Janet's POVMy head was hurting; I could not think straight. " What did you just say?" I asked him. " Is something wrong with you? I know you clearly heard what I said. Do not act like I am the one who is dumb," he said, clearly upset by that question. I took the cup of drink that was in my present and gulped it down my throat." I thought you never wanted to take the drink?" " I needed it because I do not understand what is going on here and why we are here; nothing is making any sense to me." I turned to my mother. " You should not speak to him that way. I thought I was doing you a favor. He was the one who asked to see you; he saw you at the event and liked you, and it is a good thing," she said. She was pissing me off right now. I stood up and tried to leave his house, but the guards at the door would not let me leave. " Get out of my way, I need to go" I began struggling with them. " I'm sorry, but you can not leave here until he permits us to let you go," one of the gua
Janet's POVShe was shocked that I was insisting that she leave. " You are unbelievable, what do you stand to gain from doing this?" " I want privacy and I want it now, you have to leave us alone to be together" She was pissing me off and I could not hide my anger right now, especially as I tolerated a lot from her and had no idea, but now that I know what is going on, I did not want her being in charge like she had wanted. " Fine, I'll leave." She picked up her bag and left. I smiled and turned to Kevin. He was not happy with it but there was nothing he could do about it. " You did not have to do that" " I had to do that. This is a date, and she has no right to be here, don't you get it?" " I don't; I don't see any reason why she had to leave this place," he said. Then he must be dumb. " This is a date for just the two of us. I doubt you wanted a friendship date; if you had wanted that, you should have said so." I picked up one of the fruits that was there and ate it. He wa
Clara's POVI got to my Pack and had to relax. I've had such a stressful day, and I needed to rest. I thought I would get some rest but it was never the intention of my legs as it hurt me so much. I held it and tried to stay calm but it was not possible as it continued to hurt. Nothing was coming to my head to use in getting it calm; I lay on the bed and just hoped that it would go away because I was not ready to go through the pain for a long time. I felt like I was going to pass off and it might not take long before that happens. After a while, the pain went away and that was it. I touched my legs and felt nothing. How silly of it to come and act like it was going to stop me from breathing. I got up and walked around, there was no pain. I sighed, was this going to continue for the rest of my life? Then I remembered that I had the power in me and it was always going to come as long as the power was with me. I looked at the window and lit a fire in it, I quickly went to take wa
Janet's POVI was not okay with being in my Pack without hearing from him. I picked up my phone and tried to call him, but he was not responding to my calls or anything that had to do with me; my messages were left unattended to. I had to find a way to go meet him in his Pack; I left for his house without minding that people had their eyes on me. It was none of my business. I got to his Pack and felt how cold it was. I wondered what was wrong and it was not like I could ask anyone that was there, they were never going to answer me, so I decided to go further to Berrent's house. I got there and saw the gloomy look on people's faces; there were actually people there, people that I had not seen before outside his house. I did not say a word to them because of the way they looked at me. I got into the house and met an empty sitting room. I thought that as people were outside, the house was going to be filled with people, but I was wrong; it was not. " Is Berrent at home?" I asked the
Janet's POVI looked around and I saw that people were running all around the place, I did not know what was going on and what was happening. I kept looking around for Alpha Berrent but he was nowhere around me or anywhere in the event ground.I found out that people were not getting hurt but they were running away for their safety even though it seemed the people that came did not come there to hurt anyone. After a while, the place was calm and sanity was restored to the event. " What was that all about?" Sara asked. " I have no idea what that was," I said, still searching around, but he was not there. I saw Kevin with his father, they were trying to get the soldiers to take over the place. " Where are you going?" I felt a hand holding me back, it was Sara." What do you mean? I can't leave this place anymore?" " That is not what I am saying and you know it, I just want to know where you are going, you can not just leave this place like that, you know it is dangerous out there"
Janet's POVI did not go to him yet because I did not want people funnily looking at me. I went to meet with Kevin after he left. Sara was with me and we both went there. " What do you think your father and Alpha Berrent were arguing about?" She asked him. " I do not know about this, and I better stay out of their business." he shrugged his shoulders. " Says someone who is going to be the Alpha one day; you should not make yourself stay out of business like this," She said. I knew that if he found out anything, he was going to tell her and might not breathe a word to me. " What do you want me to do?" " To find out from your father what this is all about," she insisted. I wondered why it was a great concern for her to know what was going on with the Alpha and Berrent concerning that place. I could not stay with them because they later made a conversation about them, and I could not contribute much, so I had to leave there. I got home and met my mother. She had no frown on her
