Chapter Five

Janet’s POV

“What took you so long? We were all waiting for you.” One of the Omega said, looking worried.

“I guess I came late, I saw him leaving and he hasn't changed,” I said absentmindedly.

“What did you say?” She looked confused.

“No, not you. Since we missed him, let’s prepare for the welcome banquet.” I said with a forced smile.

“Welcome banquet? How did you know about that?” She asked with suspicion lingering in her eyes.

“I… I think our Alpha mentioned it.” I lied, rattling out.

“He didn’t.” She shook her head.

“Well, he just did. Let’s go prepare.” I scurried away from her before she bantered me with questions.

I had to be careful of the way I predicted things.

The Omegas were the lowest-ranking servants in the pack and we were the ones in charge of organizing the field for Steven’s welcome banquet.

I returned to the venue to take a final look at it before the event time, the canopies were in the right place including the chairs, tables, and food sets.

Just then, someone tickled me from behind. I could remember this scene and I knew it was Pamela.

“Hey!” I turned to her and she smiled, looking all innocent.

“Where have you been? I waited all morning by the lake but you weren’t there.” She said, sounding worried.

“I’m sorry, I was busy.” I lied.

“What are you doing here? Let’s go, I got you a lot of fruit.” She urged me happily and I shrugged.

“My parents put me in charge of this, I can’t afford any loss,” I said, crossing my arms.

“When did you start obeying your parents? They won’t even notice you.” I hadn’t seen this side of her and she was slowly showing it even though she tried to hide her temper.

I was so naive in the past.

“I will stay here until the show is over.” I maintained my stance and she looked astonished while standing beside me.

Evening came so fast and the once empty field was filled with dignitaries and Alphas of other packs. This scene was replaying and believe me, during this time in the past, I was admiring the docile next-in-line Alpha Steven but this time, it was different.

“Hope you know the real reason why you are here.” I didn’t even know when my mother walked up to me.

“Mum….” I groaned.

“Good thing you found your wolf early, now, you have to find your mate.” She whispered.

It was a normal thing for all parents to urge their children about this, especially during festivals that include other pack members.

“Mum, I’m just 18! Are you trying to chase me out of the house?” I teased, squeezing my face.

“You know the right thing then do it.” She was about to leave but I grabbed her arm and she faced me.

“I may not find a mate, but I might find a good husband you would accept,” I said seriously, wiggling my brows and she looked at me, stunned.

“What?” I didn’t wait to explain anything to her. I picked up a goblet of wine and approached the main center where both Betas and Alphas dine.

I was a total showstopper because I picked the perfect gown for the dazzling ceremony. In the past, I was looking like a pest but right now, I was the kind of smexy lady that every man wanted in their arms.

I felt Steven’s gaze on me, very serious as he stood manly at a corner but I bluntly ignored him and approached a more deadly prey.

The Lord of all Alphas, ruthless and a cold warrior whom everyone respected with fear. Alpha Leon Jackson. Maybe in the past, I feared and ignored him - but now, I would willingly throw the bait.

“What are you doing?” Pamela tried to reach for me but I was determined and had my eyes focused on Leon as I approached him.

From a close distance, I could feel his aura, so strong and intimidating - I hid my quiver as I admired his broad shoulder and perfectly caved face. He was smoking gorgeous with drop-dead intoxicating aqua blue eyes.

“I’m lost.” I didn’t know when I spilled these words and he turned to me.

“You are…” His voice caused earthquakes in my heart, lest I controlled myself from staggering.

“From a distance, I lust over you and can’t wait to be your woman.” I flirted, biting my lips and he smirked.

“Do women toast men these days?” He shrugged, drinking his wine.

“Well… if he is of her class and interest, why not? I don’t mind being the man.” I said melodiously and he smirked.

“The last woman that shared a bed with me died, you might be a prey.” He threatened.

“Oh… cowboy, it seems no one told you that I have nine lives.” I leaned closer to his neck, intentionally letting out a deep breath. “I don’t die,” I whispered.

“Then, I will be willing to make you my cat girl.” I wasn’t expecting him to play along and in a blink of an eye, he spun me and I found myself on his lap - feeling the heat that exuded from his body.

We locked our gaze and our eyes became intense, it was harder to stare away from him and I couldn’t control how fast my heart was pounding.

“You are hot, cowboy.” I lingered my finger on his chest.

Partly opened suit, with his magnificent cologne filling my nostrils. The body heat I felt and his arm around my waist deluded me for some seconds.

“Want to taste some?” His lips connected with mine and before Steven, I kissed the fearless Alpha - leaving everyone gasping in shock and Steven clenching his fist at a distance.

“I also don’t mind sharing my bed with you.” He whispered in my ears before sending thousands of kisses on my cheek and face. He was the perfect companion for my revenge.
