Valerian Pov:

I stared at my mate as her eyes snapped back to mine, those large blue irises widening in realization. Her lips were still slightly parted, every intake of her was breath shallow. The haze lifted from her eyes like a switch had flipped..

The human man she’d been looking at wisely turned away, pretending he hadn’t been seconds away from walking over.

Good.

"You should eat faster" my voice came out grunt, the words leaving my mouth like venom.

She blinked, then looked down at her half-finished plate, as if she’d only just remembered she was sitting in a cafe.

I wanted nothing more than to take her away from this place and from the eyes that were still lingering on her, take her away before I lost control,

She may have reined in her allure, but I could still smell it.

Waves of it clung to the air, curling around my senses, making my breath stutter with each breath.

It was like I’d been drugged with aphrodite

I remembered the first time I saw her

I was in the forest, tracking the undead near the Lycan border, Ryan reported to me that there was a lycan engaged in a fight with some undead and I sent Rafael to retrieve her but he lost control.

I felt a pull before I saw her, a slight tugh in my chest and then when I saw her through the darkness

....I couldn't breathe

Couldn't think

I didn't know what I was thinking when I attacked Rafael, it'll be far fetched to assume that I was even thinking, I moved without hesitation the moment he moved toward her marking her as his prey

When she collapsed, unconscious, beneath me, and when I held her in my arms

The world fell silent.it was like all the air was sucked dry and I couldn't breath, as my eyes took in the most beautiful creature I've ever laid my eyes on,

My breathing contracted, she was curled in my arms, so small, dirt on her skin, her hair tangled across her face.

But none of it mattered.

she was the most beautiful creature I've ever seen

I gave her my blood to speed up her healing. Her scent was thick, overwhelming. Tempting.

I wanted a taste.

But I marked her instead.

My fangs pierced her neck before I realized what I was doing.

And when the mark began to bloom across her skin, I didn’t stop it. a feeling bloomed deep within me

She was mine.

Mine to claim.

Mine to keep.

Mine.

I stared at her face, entranced, unable to look away. And then it clicked—I’d seen her before, a picture of the Hale family flashed across my mind, a family photo for their business website in the human territory, there was a controversy on who his daughter was as they've never seen her only a picture

Of course.

Of fucking course.

Rival packs. Rival empires. I Wonder what my father would have to say about this

_And then

i remembered how I froze and my body filled with apprehension when she got bitten by the vampire in my place, how I watched life slip from her eyes and pure agony suffocated her, it was a feeling I never want to fill again

I kept the vampire that bit her alive, locked in the dungeon where i would torture him slowly till he begs to be destroyed

__

Her hand trembled slightly as she picked up her fork again, but the hunger that had been all-consuming moments ago was gone.

She pushed her plate away.

I stood. “Let’s go.”

Outside, the air was sharp, cooler than before. She walked beside me in silence.

That scent—hers—still lingered. Sweet and stormy. Like spring rain over fire. And under it, her blood called to mine with maddening persistence.

She slid into the passenger seat without a word. I started the engine.

Halfway back, she finally spoke.

“So... what happened in the cave?” Her voice was soft, but steady.

I didn’t look at her. “You almost died.” I say recoiling from the word

“Yeah. Figured that much.”

Silence stretched. before she talked again

“You bit me.” he voice was laced with accusations

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. “I did.”

She shifted in her seat, pulling her knees up and hugging them. “Did I ask you to do it? to help me”

“Yes.”

Another beat of silence.

“Would you have done it even if I hadn’t?”

Yes.

I didn’t answer. I didn’t have to, the truth hung in the air I would definitely, without her asking.

Her eyes moved to the window, but I knew she was still thinking—processing. I let her. I wasn’t interested in easing her confusion. She needed to feel it. To live in acceptance of what we now shared.

“You’re angry,” she said quietly

Smart girl.

“Yes.”

A pause. Then: “At me?”

I glanced at her. “You nearly died because you couldn’t follow simple instructions.”

Her scowl was immediate. “I wasn’t trying to be reckless.”

“And yet, you were.” My voice sharpened. “jumping in front of a vampire and getting injected with venom, a deadly poison to your kind wasn't trying to be reckless ”

“I didn’t think—”

“No, you didn’t.”

Her jaw clenched, shoulders stiffening. “Her jaw clenched. Shoulders stiffened. “You’re the one who mated me, bounding me to you.”

“Not me. you'll have to bring that up with your goddess” and she sent a glare my way

I exhaled slowly, forcing my hands to relax. “Next time, think. Because I won’t save you again.”

A lie.

Because there wouldn’t be a next time.

And if there was—I’d save her again. Every damn time, without thinking twice

Her breath hitched. But she didn’t argue.

We pulled up to the safe house hidden among the trees.

She stepped out without a word, disappearing inside before I even shut off the engine.

I let her go.

She needed space.

Because if I followed her now—I wouldn’t be able to keep my hands off her.

Yes, I was angry.

At her recklessness.

At her disregard for her own life.

But that wasn’t the only reason.

she had looked at another man and releasing her allure

Fuck it.

Maybe I should go after her and ensure she comprehends that there's no backing out of this

That I belong to her-

  • The Vampire's deathmarked lycan    Chapter one: Double forest

Alina Pov: The moon filtered through the trees, casting a pale glow over the treetops. Crouching on a thick branch, I peered down at the pack guards below, my chest pounding as they followed the false trail I had left earlier. They were close, their heavy boots crunching against the fallen leaves.I grinned. Idiots. All they had to do was look up, and they'd find me. But instead, they drifted farther from their target. Fooling them had been easy, I had masked my scent, leaving them no way to sniff me out. Even if they tried, they would never find me.I stifled a laugh at the frustration on Zack's face. He had been so sure he would catch me before the third day, but here we were, already nearing the end of the second. Just a few more hours, and I would have my freedom. As the guards disappeared into the distance, my mind drifted back to my last conversation with my father-the Lycan King. ****"Why? Why do you forbid me from leaving the pack?" I demanded. My father sat behind his desk

**Alina's POV**Blood splattered across the ground as the vampire's lifeless body crumpled, his severed head slipping from my grasp. The metallic scent clung to the air, thick and suffocating. I barely had time to breathe before another lunged at me, claws slashing through the night. I sidestepped, raking my own claws across his throat. A gurgled hiss escaped him as black blood oozed down his chest.A shift in the wind warned me of another attack. Instinct kicked in. I spun, catching the vampire’s wrist mid-strike. A wicked smile curled my lips as I yanked, his arm ripping clean from the socket. He didn’t even get the chance to scream before my fangs sank into his throat, tearing it open in one vicious bite.Adrenaline surged through me, igniting something primal and raw. This was nothing like training with my father, my brother, or the pack warriors. This was real. This was intoxicating.Another vampire lunged. I twisted, dodging his claws, and caught his hand before he could retract

Alina pov: I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my heart pounding in my chest. Earlier today, I woke up to find myself back in my pack’s forest, lying on a tree branch. Every wound I had sustained was gone—completely healed, without even a scar. That was impossible. I should still be healing, or at the very least, have some marks left behind. The only evidence that last night even happened was my torn clothes, still stained with blood and dirtThat, and the mark.I had been mated. Marked by a vampire. The realization sent a cold shudder through me. I had washed up in a nearby lake and changed into the spare clothes I always kept hidden in the forest—just in case I shifted and needed a fresh set. Then, I had made my way back to the pack house, trying to push away the growing dread curling in my stomach. My father wasn’t happy that I won, but he gave me his word—I had my freedom.I should have felt victorious. I should have felt smug at the frustrated look on Zack’s face. Instead,

Alina's POVShe led me to where the wolves were gathered before bidding me goodbye. I stood there, staring at them—ten in total. My father had arranged this so I wouldn’t be lonely, but honestly, it was pathetic. Either way, this would be my last day with them, so I might as well enjoy it. We headed into the forest, a particular one I loved. At its heart lay a maze-like layout, making it perfect for the game I had in mind. I glanced at Kieran. At just nineteen, he was already towering over me. “Last day, huh?” Kieran murmured, his gaze lingering on a particular girl in the group. His voice was barely above a whisper. “Finally free to explore,” I replied with a light chuckle. “I know you all had better things to do, but thanks for keeping me company all these years.” “Don’t go getting sentimental on me,” he said, narrowing his eyes before taking a deep breath and shutting them. “Even if you only joined because of a certain someone,” I teased, calling the rest of the group over.

So tell me why, in the middle of all this chaos, Jeremy couldn’t wipe that stupid grin off his face.“I’ve always thought those leeches needed a clean-up,” he said with a smirk. “This just gives us a solid reason to act.”Mother shot him a look, arms crossed“This isn’t something to be excited about, Jeremy. People were hurt.” I added, remembering how badly wounded the wolves were or my fate in the double forest Jeremy’s expression shifted, just slightly. “I know. But we need to act fast. First, we need to figure out how they got past the barrier and into the pack without Father being alerted. If they got in once, they can do it again. And we can’t assume those were the only ones.”Father’s brow furrowed. “You’re suggesting there’s a traitor.”“I’m saying it’s a possibility,” Jeremy replied. “Someo

Alina pov: I sighed in relief as I slipped into the forest, unseen by the pack guards or a wandering wolf. If my father found out, explaining would be a hassle. I could say I was going for a run, but I was heading for the pack borders, it would be difficult to explain The cold wind bit through my coat, and I instinctively pulled it tighter. Memories of that night flooded back, the horde of vampires, the fight that happened. But now, I carefully looked around, there was no trace. No pile of corpses , no black blood staining the ground. it was completely gone, erased just like my injures, It was as if it had never happened. If not for the mate mark burning on my neck, I might have doubted it myself., I masked my scent before coming here. Not that it mattered—there were no vampires in sight. The five people traveling with us were already gathered around a table, the quiet buzz of conversation filling the space.“And here comes our sleeping beauty,” one of the guys—red-haired and grinning—called out, drawing everyone's attention. It looked ancient, untouched for years. He hadn’t explained much earlier—just walked into my room without knocking and said, “Get ready. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the towering glass buildings that stretched into the sky. I was officially out of the pack’s territory, surrounded by humans. Their scent filled my senses—different from werewolves or vampires. It was softer, warmer, almost like colors blending together. just with the smell I could tell they were a weak specie but their size in numbers were astonishing, why would the witches target these weak creatures Without thinking, I rolled the window down and stuck my head out.
