Is it the beginning of their happily ever after or is there a nightmare lingering in the wings?
I hated that Victoria wasn't where I left her. That her room was empty. That the only thing behind was the subtle rose fragrance that always surround her, since the last few months. I wasn't even sure who to be angry at. Her for not heeding my order, or my stupid brother for not caring either way whether she was here or not. The door to her room slammed loudly as I walked out frustrated. Keeping her safe was much more difficult than I thought it would be. Growling I stalked down the stairs my hands gripping the railings a little too roughly, a section coming off in my hand before tossing it through the window. The bottom floor that was only seconds ago filled with vampires is now completely empty except for one person. Hayden. He gives me a pouting smile not knowing how much I really wanted to snap his neck at the moment. Instead my hands slip into my pockets as I made my way into my study. I needed a distraction. "Were you going through my books?" I asked looking around and finall
I held Yuuki in my hand, stroking her hair while she wrapped her hand around my neck. My cheeks hurt from all our laughing, thinking back on all our times we spent together. Next I indulged her curiosity about things her mind found awe of like contraceptives for instance. Her family robbed her, they robbed Yuuki of enjoying life, of feeding her curiosity that would have blossomed into something beautiful. They robbed her of who she would have been. My mind fluttered to her question, only days ago. Eric Chancey was a good friend of my father's, they were both servants of our government and he was a very influential man. His life was kept crisp and tight, no one knew what went on behind his gates. Belle was truly the only heir anyone knew to the now forgotten estate. She was forced into the social ranks like I was, only I escaped for school and because I didn't care about openly rebelling and not meeting my father's expectations. But she however, knew she had to play her role well. In
Lady Amy meets me at the door, her eyes doing her usual stomach churning sweep of me, before licking her lips. Vampire or human, there were always girls that I knew for a fact I'd never be interested in. I just didn't know humans and vampires would ever be this close alike. "What do you want? I'm leaving like you asked. "She smiled running a finger against my jaw, my feet taking a step back from her reach. "Oh come on are we playing this right now?" She purrs and I roll my eyes. "I don't know when you'll be back......if you'll be back. " I stiffen immediately as her words sink in. Truth lining every fibre of it. But I had to come back, for Yuuki's sake. I had to keep her safe. "What the hell do you want?" I snap. "You're wasting my time. " "Fine, " Amy snorts, taking a step beside me, placing her palms on either side of my head. "What do you think you're doing?" I twist myself, attempting to get further away from her, my distrust of her intentions evident. Amy tosses me a
I spent the latter part of the morning, perusing the small diary I found encased in the Chaney family book.I've been doing my best to find out more about my mate. Anything that will connected the missing data to explain her existence- or lack of. The book contains an annoying vast majority of dates, questions and history alluding to what the owner has done and have been, but very little about Yuuki herself. It seemed geared towards aquainting the child with the previous owner than to state the relationship between them. Other than the first mention of Yuuki's name and her words alluding to be the mother, there were very other few instances, which were very far between of the child ever again. I couldn't compare the Chancey book with the diary either, having found it completely worthless to seek information there. Other than the lingering question of why both women birth dates were similar, there was nothing else to connect them. That is until the book fell from my hand momentarily o
"What! You're still here?" My father barked coming up the staircase. I haven't seen this man in a few days, but the rumors spreading among the auxiliary workers certainly weren't false. He's angry and miserable. His chaotic madness spreading like poisonous miasma. My father was scary when he wanted to be, or when the pressures of our Government got to levels he could no longer contain. But this, the monster of what he was, now standing before me was horrifyingly barbaric. I didn't recognize him at all. His eyes were red, blood vessels coursing thickly through his hands, while the vein at his neck throbbed dramatically. For a fraction of a second, I'm happy my mother and little brother were dead. They would be heart broken seeing him like this. My hands slide into my pockets effortlessly as I pause watching him. "Yes sadly, " I answer. "But see, since my visit had nothing to do with you I didn't think it mattered. I have a life too you know. "My father teeth clenches in annoyance
I'm silent, too repulsed to open my mouth as vomit lingers just outside my throat. I was not sure what to expect from this meeting, but I sure as well was not expecting the attendees to be drinking vampire blood. Especially not my father! What the hell was happening here? And why were they comrades with a damn vampire? The same creatures that we were already desperate to get away from! Was this some reverse psychology bullshit? How funding different were we from the bloodsuckers if we were drinking blood too? Another wave of repulsive hits as I realized something. There were no human donors around, but that didn't mean that they didn't have them locked away somewhere from prying eyes. My stomach churns once more just thinking of it. Was this really human blood? "It's quite refreshing, you know," The Vampire says breaking through my mind haze. "Just look around. Aren't they enjoying it?" I continue to stare. I might have looked apprehensive but I was scared and mortified as
Every day is the same. Outside is covered in white, and a chilling wind tumbles through the window before storming into the room. It's daytime out apart from the blue skies, or what should have been blue skies that are hidden behind ashen clouds, there's nothing else that speaks to the day. The moment is wintry and foreboding, truly daunting to any type of fun you'd think of having. Then again, my type of fun is being resigned to a wall-by-wall cage. My life doesn't seem to get better than this. I'm always trapped, despite where ever I go. I know I'm not to think this way, I'm here because Thomas is attempting to keep me safe. But am I really? Once Aiden comes back and finds me gone, what then? He'll tear the world apart. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I don't even know what my thoughts are anymore. One minute I'm sure that being away from him is the best thing, the next, I'm terrified of him never finding me. I should hate him. A murderer and monster. A cruel bastard tha
My fingers rap against the door of the car. I'm excited, I haven't seen Victoria in a while; though I doubt my enthusiasm will be replicated. But I'm estatic none the less. It's heavy work, working in the background, especially keeping secrets from my brother, but alls well that ends well. I emerge, meeting Garnett at the door, a bored expression on his face as he stared into the white oblivion. He doesn't socialize much with the vampires around. Well he is of a much higher class. Talk about being snobbish. His eyes meet mine, and he nods acknowledging my presence as he straightens. "Do you need company?" I sigh. He treats me like a child. With a wave of a hand, I brush him off. "It's just a courtesy call Garnett, there's no danger here." "If you say so" He says going back stoic. "You never talk to me when my brother is around"Garnett folds his hands across his chest staring past me. "He's scary" A giddy throatful of laughter escapes me. "Indeed he is. Do you miss home Ga
I jumped, slamming the door behind me as I exited the room, hearing Hayden's voice, his scary smile, not so terrifying once more. Maybe he would answer a few questions that have been nagging."I have something to ask""When haven't you? Go ahead" He takes my arm turning me around in the hallway licking his lips. "Who knew you'd look this delicious in a dress.""Will you stop?!""Don't be serious" His expression reverts to boredom as he folds his arm leaning against a wall. "Hurry now, I have subjects to greet"Oh right."You said you were the one who let us escape that day, but you weren't around, how is that?"His eyes twinkled with mirth."You remember that? How touching. For some strange reason my brother was attracted to you from the start which means we also have a connection, but that's not the reason I knew you left. We can tell by the different heart beats the number of persons within the house. You've figured out by now that vampire's don't have a beating heart, yes?"Actuall

Friends he says, as if that was something either of us could ever hope for. Like that was a decision I could ever dream of in this world. I don’t get or understand what Aiden may want, extending that olive branch, I don’t get what either of us my Grandfather included why they want me to join them so badly. I might be a vampire, but I can’t sway this battle left or right. If anything, I wished they would cease the foolish bickering and go their separate way and leave me alone. I shiver, feeling a thread of pain down my back. It’s been happening more and more lately, especially whenever I feel the worst of hunger. I’ve been scarfing down loads of human food drowned in ketchup and pepper, but Aiden is right. It won’t last for very long, that much I know. But to take Aiden’s blood….I shake my head, I can’t think about that right now. I’m anxious about seeing another family member, under any circumstances it would have been the best thing ever but he’s a villain apparently and I can’t
Yuuki rushes out quickly as soon as she realised she could leave and I’m left with my brother and May. She’s lost in thought until she realises, we’re the only one’s left, or it could have been the intimidating aura that my dear little brother was giving off. “I….I….should go.” May stammers, attempting to leave when my brother grabs her hand.“Hey May,” He says chirply. “Why the rush, come on, it’s been awhile since you’ve chatted with your cousins, right?”“Now..now is….now is not a great time for jokes, Hayden. Besides, we have work to do.”“Come on, don't be like that. Brother is here.”Her face flushes as she glances at me. “Really, I have to help my mom prepare for this ball. Lot’s of invitations to send out.” She says eagerly.“Make sure Amy gets one too, alright.”May stiffens at my brother’s words, her head turning stiffly to regard him.“Amy?”“Yeah. I haven’t seen her around lately. Though I’m pretty sure it could be me since all vampires came back right?”“Right. She just
AIDENMy brother thankfully makes it in time before Yuuki manages to fly away, though if I’m being honest, I would have liked a few moments to compose myself before having to brief everyone about my findings. Water beneath the bridge I suppose. Aunt Aria and Luke take the seats across from my desk, while my brother stands to the side, yawning. May enters soon after, her expression bothered as she shrinks into her seat across from Yuuki. I sigh, not much I can do right now, I’ll have to leave my intrusive thoughts for later. “I figured out the code.” I announce, Luke's peaceful composure breaking into astonishment.“What?!” They ask in unison.“As I said.”“So what is it then?” Hayden enquiries lifting his eyes from examining his nails. A habit he tends to do a lot.“I’m not sure exactly. It wasn’t as clear cut as I expected it to be,” I confess. My brother’s expression morphed into annoyance and he yelled pointing his finger at me.“Then why the hell would you lead with that then, yo
Hayden leaves me, going to stand against the floor to ceiling, his glass of blood to his lips as he gazes on the outside, his mind lost in the wind. Now that I’m in their niche or nest, I find a different side to them. Not necessarily May, for some reason she’s always so angry. I don’t get why she doesn’t just admit to Aiden her feelings and move on. As for Amy, it’s clear she has reached her limit with them. Everyone here has something important to them all of which, in one way or the other I find myself longing for. Ties, bonds, friendship and family. I wish I had all or even some of it. You might argue that I have Aiden- I don’t. I have a semblance of what would be a family. What they hope might be the future, but that might not be what I want. And my Grandfather- he’s just another puzzle piece that doesn’t make sense. Where was he when father locked me away or Micah for that matter. Could I even trust them?“It’s eerie that it seems nothing has changed all these centuries that w
When I awake the sky is inked in obsidian blue, only the twinkling of the stars, the only illumination of the night. The house is quiet, I would have liked to believe it would have been even a bit more lively to crypt of silence that has always accompanied our previous home. Aiden is still asleep, I realise sitting up, his eyebrows furrowed as if dreaming up a nightmare, I want to reach out and soothe him, but I fight against the better inclinations, and give into the excuse of food when my stomach rumbles horribly.Right, I haven’t had anything to eat since lunch this afternoon.I slip through the door, leaving it slightly ajar so as not to wake him before silently rushing down the winding corridor, hoping I at least won’t run into any enemies before finding the kitchen. I spy maids dusting and cleaning, carrying out their duties while I scurry around like a cockroach unwilling to be found. There’s a light on I find when I venture down the hall, the door slightly ajar. My hands ball
Everyone is still shocked over the idea of all the vampires ever leaving. Apparently, their plan was only to be here for a while and not exactly settle. But wherever they were, their subjects would most likely follow. I stand on the threshold of the door looking out, most of the humans gathered in the yard. Harry’s funeral will be held later today, the thought is rather ominous hanging over the house. That was the last memory they would ever have of Aiden. Maria is distraught over the fact over me leaving with them, I haven’t the heart to tell them it was for the best or the fact that I was one of them now- or will be soon. At this point, I think it was best to rid them of some of the guilt that would hang on their shoulders. They were already aware Aiden wouldn’t have left me behind so easily. The train ride to the house is long and dreary. There’s fog everywhere, completely obscuring our vision and I grow impatient and nauseous the more we move. Hayden is fast asleep beside me in
Why would I ever think that Belle would ever do that? Belle had everything she needed, even if life’s circumstances might have shifted a little. Aiden seemed to have leaned into every whim that she had tossed his way, notwithstanding Hayden’s grave distaste for her presence but why? I couldn’t think of anything that could lead her down that road.“The dagger that I gave to you, was hers. It's an artifact. A tool made to take a vampire's life indefinitely given that we are immortal creatures.”“She wanted to kill you, why would Belle?”“Not Belle. Your father. Belle took her life to save mine.”“But you could have saved her.”“She was already gone when I got here.” He turns his back to me. “If Belle had confided in me about what her parents required of her, I could have saved her.”“But you made all the humans think you killed her, Aiden why?”“Because it was easier for them to see me as a monster. Who would believe Belle would take her life instead of mine?” He takes my hand in his on
